CHICAGO — Ben Kueter will not be on the Iowa football roster for the 2026 season, head coach Kirk Ferentz said on Aug. 14.
Ferentz indicated that Kueter is totally focused on wrestling now.
Kueter was a multi-sport star at Iowa City High and a four-star linebacker in the 2023 high school recruiting class. During his first year in college, Kueter was part of both the Hawkeyes football and wrestling programs, though he did not actually make his debut on the gridiron.
In 2024, Kueter announced he was temporarily stepping away from football to focus on wrestling. But since then, he has not officially rejoined the Iowa football roster, as he intended to do. During that time away from football, Kueter has twice been an All-American for Iowa wrestling at heavyweight and undergone multiple offseason surgeries.

The Portland Fire have signed Amy Okonkwo to a standard WNBA contract as an injury replacement, in the wake of Sarah Ashlee Barker missing the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. Okonkwo, a two-time Women's AfroBasket MVP, previously played for the Dallas Wings and Atlanta Dream. Now, she joins a first-year Fire squad that is 13-19 and hamstrung by injuries.
Okonkwo has played in 9 WNBA regular-season games over the past two seasons. She averaged 11 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals for the Wings. She returned to the Wings this season on a training-camp deal but was waived before the season began. She then signed a developmental contract with the Atlanta Dream on May 13th, but was released on July 8th.
The 29-year-old has spent much of her professional career overseas, playing in Spain, France, Israel and Mexico. But she's most known for her play with the Nigerian team; she averaged 17.4 points and 8.2 rebounds at the 2023 AfroBasket tournament.
She then led Nigeria to its fifth consecutive African ******* le in 2025, scoring 14 points per game. Okonkwo was an integral part of the 2020 and 2024 Nigerian Olympic teams, averaging 11 points and 4.8 rebounds in Paris as the Nigerian women became the first African team, men or women, to reach the quarterfinals.
To take on this Fire opportunity, Okonkwo had to temporarily leave the Nigerian national team's training camp — but she'll return in time for the World Cup later this month.

Tottenham are moving like a club that have stopped thinking small. According to TeamTalk, Spurs have held conversations over a possible summer move for Endrick, and while plenty still has to happen before this becomes concrete, the logic is obvious.
Roberto De Zerbi has already overseen an aggressive window. Tottenham have added Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, while smashing their transfer record twice. That tells you two things. First, the club are backing the new head coach properly. Second, they are not done.
De Zerbi has made it clear the squad build is incomplete, particularly in attack. Savinho is reportedly the priority out wide, Cody Gakpo remains on the radar and Pedro Neto is viewed as an alternative. Endrick, though, is a different discussion. He is not a standard market opportunity, he is one of those rare cases where elite potential becomes temporarily available because a super-club have too many moving parts at once.

The Chicago Bears have been ravaged by injuries through the first nine days of training camp, specifically at defensive back that includes star safety Coby Bryant and his replacement nickel-converted-safety Cam Lewis.
Before Sunday's training camp practice, defensive coordinator Dennis Allen discussed Lewis' injury. While there's no timetable for Lewis' return, Allen responded "I don't think so" when asked about if he's expected to be sidelined for extended time. He also announced that Lewis will not practice on Sunday, but it sounded encouraging about his short-term status as the injuries continue to pile up.
The Bears signed Lewis to a one-year contract this offseason to serve as valuable depth and bring versatility to the defensive back room. He's done exactly that just a week into training camp when he went from competing for the nickel cornerback job in Kyler Gordon's absence to filling the void left at safety when Bryant went down with a knee injury.
Now, with Lewis temporarily sidelined, the question becomes who's the next man up at the position. Undrafted rookie Skyler Thomas saw action with the first-team defense opposite top rookie Dillon Thieneman. But Chicago also signed veteran Xavier Woods earlier this week.
Allen praised the addition of Woods, who has experience and familiarity working with defensive backs coach Al Harris. Once they get him ramped up, Woods should factor into the equation at safety.

King Charles is preparing to briefly step away from public life for his annual break at the family's long-time "cherished" Scottish residence, Balmoral Castle.
As the royal family get ready to retreat to the 50,000-acre estate in Aberdeenshire for the summer, the grounds will no longer be accessible to the public. Balmoral Castle's official website states that visitors are welcome to the grounds, gardens and exhibitions from 28 March to 9 August, after which it will shut its gates ahead of the royal family's arrival.
"The grounds, gardens, Mews Gift Shop, Restaurant and Ballroom Exhibition are now open daily until Sunday 9th August," the notice reads. From 10 August, the estate will remain temporarily closed to visitors for the duration of the summer. The grounds are expected to reopen for the autumn season from early October.

Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports that 1. FC Köln have reached a full agreement with Tottenham Hotspur attacking talent Mikey Moore over a loan move to the Bundesliga. The 18-year-old remains set to join Köln on a season-long loan without an option to buy. Tottenham continue to regard Moore as an important part of their long-term plans and have no intention of permanently relinquishing control of the England youth international.
The latest development comes after some uncertainty surrounding the transfer. Tottenham temporarily placed Moore's proposed move to Köln on hold and kept the youngster available for their pre-season friendly against Getafe. A move to the cathedral city nevertheless remains firmly on course. All that remains is for Spurs head coach Roberto de Zerbi to give the green light.

Aug 6 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump signed two executive orders on Thursday in a new but narrower attempt to curtail birthright citizenship, once again challenging a provision of the U.S. Constitution even though the Supreme Court rejected his previous effort.
Limiting birthright citizenship has been one of the ‌top priorities in the Republican president's crackdown on immigration, with the White House taking particular aim at what it calls "birth tourism," in which pregnant foreigners travel to the U.S. to ‌give birth.
After his June 30 setback in the Supreme Court, Trump called on Congress to act, but on Thursday he opted for executive orders, which set policy but do not carry the same weight as laws passed by Congress.
The Supreme Court had struck down as unconstitutional Trump's earlier executive order, which targeted a wide swath of immigrants in the country illegally or temporarily.

The High Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM) has granted the precautionary suspension of Isi Palazón's sanction. As reported by El Chiringuito, the Rayo Vallecano footballer will be eligible to play at the start of LaLiga.

Peru has temporarily suspended the operations of sightseeing airline Aerodiana after one of its planes crashed in the country's Ica region on Saturday, killing 11 European tourists and two crew members.
Aerodiana, which flies customers over the Nazca Lines archaeological site in southern Peru, must suspend all operations "until investigations are completed to verify the company's compliance with the applicable aviation regulations, procedures and operating requirements," Peru's Ministry of Transportation and Communications said Sunday.
CNN has reached out to Aerodiana for comment.
The Peruvian government earlier said that the crew of the small sightseeing plane had reported a mechanical problem before radio contact was lost.

In a letter obtained Saturday, Aug. 1, by USA TODAY Sports, the NCAA outlined its intent to fight against the ruling of Judge Charlotte Sweeney, who presides over the U.S. District Court of Colorado.

Luis Castillo's tenure as a Seattle Mariner has apparently come to an end. The Mariners announced tonight they have traded Castillo to the White Sox in exchange for reliever Seranthony Dominguez, outfielder Nolan Jones, and catching prospect Boston Smith. Per Daniel Kramer, the Mariners aren't sending any money to offset the remainder of what Castillo is owed on the extension he signed in 2022, which runs through 2027 with a vesting option for 2028 if he reaches 180 innings.
In exchange, the Mariners will be absorbing Dominguez's not-insignificant salary for the remainder of this year and the next year of his contract, when he's slated to make $10.5M. Dominguez also has an option for 2028, but it's a mutual option (with a $2M buyout).
The 31-year-old Dominguez is on pace for the worst season of his career; he still collects strikeouts but his walk rate has ballooned over the past two seasons; he's currently walking over 14% of batters faced. Compounding that problem is a serious case of dingeritis – a career-high 16.7% of fly ******* he's allowed have gone for homers, even in Chicago's ******* ious confines. But he does still strike a lot of batters out and generate whiffs, he can still rush the fastball up at 97+, and he's got a full complement of pitches for the Mariners pitching coaches to work with, even if he's primarily a heater-sweeper pitcher as a reliever. It's an expensive gamble, but the Mariners are both solving their rotation logjam (temporarily) and shedding Castillo's contract in the move; if Dominguez can be Mariner-pitching-hive-minded into even a serviceable mid-innings arm, that's a boon to the beleaguered bullpen.
The other pieces coming over in the trade are interesting in their own right. Nolan Jones is probably a name you're familiar with if you were big into prospects a decade-ish ago; he was a second-rounder drafted by Cleveland in 2016 as a highly athletic two-sport athlete and attracted a lot of prospect attention as he made his way up the ladder for his 6'4" frame, easy raw power from the left side, and a star turn in the Arizona Fall League and the Futures Game in 2019. Unfortunately, injuries derailed his ascent, and he was dealt to the Rockies in 2023 for Juan Brito shortly after making his big-league debut. Now 28, Jones has spent time in the bigs but never really latched on consistently (outside of one 2023 season where he seemed to put it all together for Colorado), mostly due to a monstrous K rate compounded by the length of his swing. He's been with the White Sox Triple-A team this season, blocked by the surprisingly good play at the big-league level, and will likely serve a similar role for Seattle as outfield depth at Tacoma.

Late Friday evening, a judge in Colorado made a decision that could bring significant change to college athletics, especially college football, ahead of the 2026 season.
College athletes who graduated high school in 2022 and just exhausted their college eligibility this past year have been granted a class-wide preliminary injunction to play a fifth season.
The ruling came from Judge Charlotte Sweeney of the U.S. Distrct Court of Colorado on Friday, July 31.
With the new ruling in place, at least temporarily, a few Colorado football players from the Buffaloes' 2025 roster would be eligible to play the 2026 season. Those players are edge rusher Keaten Wade, placekicker Alejandro Mata and kickoff specialist Buck Buchanan.
Adding any of those three likely would not change much with Coloroso's 2026 roster, and CU currently has only one roster spot open. Mata, however, did respond to the ruling on social media, hinting he would be interested in a return.

McALLEN, Texas (AP) — A Texas mother deported to Mexico despite having legal permission to stay in the U.S. after arriving as a child has filed a lawsuit against the federal government after it notified her it would be terminating her permission because of "unauthorized travel" stemming from her deportation.
Jessica Treviño, 34, filed a lawsuit through her attorney this week asking a federal judge to intervene.
Treviño and her husband were arrested in December after federal agents followed them and two of their daughters into a Home Depot parking lot in South Texas. Both were deported and are living in Matamoros, Mexico, just south of Brownsville, Texas. Their three children, all U.S. citizens, are living with family on the U.S. side near the border.
After being brought to the country as a child at the age of 7, Treviño subsequently received legal permission at 20 to remain in the U.S. under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA. Introduced in 2012, DACA does not confer legal status but has allowed hundreds of thousands of people who had come to the U.S. as children to temporarily remain and obtain work permits.
As a DACA recipient, she must maintain a clean criminal record and is not allowed to travel outside the United States.

The Atlanta Falcons are entering the 2026 season with a new look on the right side of their offensive line for the second consecutive year, hoping the latest changes will provide stability and strengthen the protection in front of their offense.
The transition began after longtime right tackle Kaleb McGary announced his retirement during the offseason. McGary, the 31st overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, started 92 games for Atlanta from 2019 through 2024 before a knee injury sidelined him for the entire 2025 season. His retirement marked the end of a significant chapter for the Falcons' offensive line.
Atlanta temporarily filled the void last season with veteran Elijah Wilkinson, but his departure in free agency left the Falcons searching once again for a dependable starter.
The team's answer came in the form of veteran tackle Jawaan Taylor. Selected four picks after McGary in the 2019 draft, Taylor brings a wealth of experience to Atlanta after spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs. The Community of Madrid has withdrawn Rayo Vallecano's concession for the Vallecas stadium in order to begin urgent renovation work. "There is no way to guarantee that nothing could happen," says the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Mariano de Paco.
The immediate consequence is that Rayo will not be able to start the season in its own stadium. The Community of Madrid has not given specifics but estimates that the renovation work will last "months" and plans to begin "as early as tomorrow."
The regional government is taking this decision to "guarantee people's safety" and explains that the works will address possible fire safety or sanitation issues. "We are going to act with total urgency and try to do it in the shortest possible time," the minister said.
Rayo Vallecano uses the municipal stadium, which it does not own, through a concession granted by the Community of Madrid.
"We carried out an audit of the stadium that produced quite bleak results regarding the stadium's maintenance. More recently, Novo's decision to file a lawsuit against Lilly (claiming that its top competitor's GLP-1 drug's advertising is misleading) may be valid, but it also suggests a certain degree of concerning desperation. Never even mind the fact that 2026 is now being seen as a "reset" year far sooner than a reset should have been necessary for the company.

Magallanes joined the staff prior to the 2025 season along with hitting coach Kevin Seitzer, both of whom had been unceremoniously fired by Atlanta after the 2024 season when the Braves finished the season 89-73. That mark was good for second place in the AL East, but broke the Braves' streak of six consecutive division ****** les, even though Atlanta still qualified for the playoffs, where they were swept by the Padres in the Wild Card series. It was a surprising move at the time, and looked on with consternation by many Atlanta fans as Seitzer and Magallanes went on to help the 2025 Mariners get deeper into the playoffs than any other Mariners team in history, making it all the way to the ALCS.
But baseball is often a sport of what-have-you-done-for-me-lately, and the Mariners, floundering after a 3-3 homestand against two of the worst teams in the NL, opted to make a move to try to spark some offense. While bold staffing changes is a common mid-season move among teams that are dramatically failing to live up to expectations, it's curious that Seitzer and Magallanes – long regarded as a package deal and sharing a similar hitting philosophy – weren't both let go. The ineptitude of the Mariners offense, last or near the bottom of the list in most offensive categories, is obvious, but like the 2024 Braves, Seattle's lineup has been wracked by injuries that have affected, at least temporarily, basically every member of the Opening Day roster except second baseman Cole Young [knocks on wood, pours salt circle, extends giant protective umbrella over Cole]. While Seitzer preached an overall hitting mindset and approach, Magallanes's role on staff was to be responsible for more of the nuts-and-bolts mechanical adjustments, something Director of Hitting Edgar Martinez (who remains on staff) also focuses on, so the team might be looking for a new voice to fill that particular role and hopefully create some better on-field results.
To do that, they've promoted Ed Paparella, the Mariners' minor-league hitting coordinator, to a major-league role. The Mariners actually signed Paparella back in 2021 as a free agent out of South Alabama, and while he never played professionally, he quickly ascended the ranks of the minor leagues.
