A Disney animator behind classics such as "The Little Mermaid" and "Tangled" just got the opportunity to thank the first responders who saved him from a mountaintop during a hike.
About a week after the incident, Glen Keane, 72, said he was grateful for the team that made it happen.
"I think it's the most difficult thing for somebody to say: I can't, I need help. And I got to that point, and I was so thankful there was somebody I could call," Keane told KPNX in Phoenix. "I've done a lot of animated fairytales, but this was a real life one, and I really wanted to see the crew who were responsible for that."
Keane also presented the department with a tribute to his rescuers. It was a drawn picture of the rescue, showing all of the first responders, helicopters and reads "Our family helping your family."

The body of a 10-year-old girl who went missing after being swept into New Jersey's Passaic River was found July 31 after a two-day search, officials said.
Passaic Mayor Hector Lora said crews recovered the girl's body in the river south of the Market Street Bridge shortly before 7 p.m. Friday, July 31. The child was identified as Milian Dulan, according to PIX11.
The discovery came after emergency crews searched nearly 9 miles of the Passaic River using boats, sonar equipment, drones, helicopters and cadaver dogs. The search began July 29 after three children entered the water near a boat ramp at Pulaski Park in Passaic, New Jersey, and were swept away by the current.
One child, an 11-year-old girl, was able to get out of the river on her own, officials said. The bodies of her 10-year-old brother, identified by PIX11 as Michael Klenk, and Dulan were later recovered, officials said.
Authorities were preparing to end the search for the night Friday when a couple living near the Market Street Bridge reported seeing something in the river from their apartment window, CBS News reported.

Former Charlotte Hornets big man Kai Jones has gained some social media traction this week for his off-court actions, and not for the first time. On this occasion, though, it is not for anything controversial. Not unless you are easily offended by footwear choices and excessive amounts of ****** ons.
A clip shared on social media showed Jones celebrating at his own wedding reception, enthusiastically throwing himself with his new wife into a choreographed dance routine that seems both cheesy and kind of heartwarming. Complete with synchronised moves, exaggerated arm swings, a sharp white suit and an infectious smile throughout, Jones looked like he was having the time of his life. Which, when at your own wedding, you probably should.

Offseasons can drag, even the good ones. And with the bulk of the offseason movement now done, things in and around basketball will slow down for the next two months. There are only so many workout montages, over-analysis of cryptic captions, discussions about LeBron James's purported love of helicopters and reminiscing about the likes of James Michael McAdoo and Flip Murray that anyone can stomach before a full-blooded slightly corny wedding dance feels like genuine entertainment.

Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE:ACHR) shares are ripping higher, with roughly 19.6% gains in a single session. As of July 21, ACHR trades at $5.29. The market move comes after Archer, with Anduril, unveiled its Thunder autonomous vertical takeoff and landing defense craft, which is designed to accompany crewed aircraft and helicopters.
While the market move is tied to a concrete product launch, there is another catalyst on the calendar this week.
The catalyst that sent the company higher was the launch of an autonomous VTOL aircraft platform with a defense variant called Thunder, jointly developed with the defense company Anduril. At the Farnborough Airshow on July 20, Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE:ACHR) and Anduril unveiled a jointly developed, series hybrid-electric VTOL platform built for both defense and commercial missions.
The defense variant "Thunder" was of particular focus. It is a Group 5 autonomous attack rotorcraft designed to multiply the combat power of crewed attack and ***** ault aircraft. This marks a real pivot from Archer's original air-taxi pitch into dual-use defense revenue. CEO Adam Goldstein noted defense to be a "huge market" and said, "the applications we can bring in the defense world are quite impressive and very much needed for the warfighter."
Management noted that what sets Thunder apart is "a hybrid-electric powertrain enables the aircraft to achieve significant range and endurance, while still maintaining the necessary precision to closely optimize power through the full range of flight conditions."

The remains of several geese were found on a New York City sightseeing helicopter that crashed into the Hudson River last year and killed 6 people, investigators said Thursday, strong suggestions that multiple bird strikes contributed to the tragedy.
Reports from the National Transportation Safety Board were not final and do not identify a definitive cause of the crash. But they describe evidence that supports bird strikes before the helicopter plummeted into the river on April 10, 2025.
The Federal Aviation Administration has said that helicopters are especially vulnerable to bird strikes because they fly at low altitudes. Strikes can turn out to be devastating.
"It seems pretty clear to me that the breakup of that helicopter was precipitated by several bird strikes," said aviation safety expert Jeff Guzzetti, a former federal crash investigator, who read the key findings. "Not just one but several — and birds of a different feather."
He noted damage to the aircraft's horizontal stabilizer, a key part of the helicopter.

TRENTON, New Jersey — Gov. Mikie Sherrill built her political brand around her time piloting helicopters for the Navy.
As New Jersey's governor, she isn't in the ****** pit anymore. But she's a frequent flier.
Sherrill flew aboard a State Police helicopter eight times over roughly three months, according to records obtained by POLITICO. In one instance, the records show, Sherrill used a State Police helicopter to fly from New Jersey to Maryland to attend a "black-tie" alumni event at the Naval Academy, her alma mater.
Access to the helicopter is one of the perks of being New Jersey governor, albeit an expensive one. As of 2021, it cost taxpayers approximately $2,500 an hour for the governor to use the State Police helicopter, according to press reports.
Prior New Jersey governors have faced scrutiny over use of the state chopper, especially when it is not explicitly for state business. Democratic former Gov. Jim McGreevey used it for personal trips, which resulted in the New Jersey Democratic State Committee agreeing to reimburse the state $18,200. Republican former Gov. Chris Christie was ensnared in "choppergate" in 2011 when he arrived at his son's high school baseball game in a State Police helicopter. He and the New Jersey Republican Party reimbursed the state $3,300 days later, but the flights raised questions around his image as a fiscal hawk.

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Hundreds of firefighters battled wildfires in Portugal, Greece and Spain on Sunday, with Spain and Italy sending reinforcements to Portugal to help with a massive blaze burning for more than three days.
Authorities urged residents in parts of Thessaloniki, Greece's second largest city, to remain indoors and shut their windows and doors due to toxic smoke from a burning recycling plant that was engulfed by a wildfire.
Another major wildfire broke out Sunday afternoon west of the Greek capital, Athens. The fire department said 210 firefighters, backed up by volunteers, specialized teams and 29 aircraft, including water-dropping planes and helicopters, were deployed to battle the blaze burning through pine forest in the Mandra area. Authorities were racing to contain the blaze before nightfall, when aircraft can no longer perform firefighting operations.
In central Portugal's Vouzela area, more than 1,200 firefighters backed up by nearly 400 vehicles and 15 aircraft tried to put out a blaze that broke out Thursday, according to the Civil Protection authority. The wildfire had burned across an area of 12,000 hectares (30,000 acres) by Sunday, information from the European Union's Copernicus satellite mapping agency showed.
The EU Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid said that Spain sent 120 firefighters and 45 vehicles as reinforcements to Portugal on Friday, while three firefighting aircraft from Italy and Spain were also dispatched to help.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, who are currently absent from the public eye over fallout from revelations about their relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, would've celebrated 40 years of wedded bliss later this July – had they not divorced in 1996.
Their four-decade old wedding day was one filled with pomp and circumstance, though, plus the odd quirk. The late Queen Elizabeth II's son married Fergie in 1986, and his bride attempted to indulge his passion on their big day.
Designer Lindka Cierach reportedly discouraged Sarah from having decorative teddy bears and helicopters embroidered into her dress in a sentimental nod to her husband.
Instead, the puff-sleeve dress with a 17-foot train featured hearts to represent love and romance, anchors and waves to pay tribute to Andrew's career in the Royal Navy, and **** blebees and thistles representing motifs from the Ferguson family coat of arms.
The couple's initials "A" and "S" were also sewn into the gown, for which Sarah admitted she lost weight.

Millie Bobby Brown is definitely no stranger to big action sequences, and she has the receipts to prove it! For instance, the teaser trailer for Enola Holmes 3 sees the actress running, jumping across staircases and wielding a shotgun on a moving carriage. With all of these high-intensity action scenes, it's fitting that the Stranger Things icon recently called herself a "female Tom Cruise." On that note, I also just found out Brown and the Mission: Impossible actor are real-life pals, and their hangouts even involve helicopters.
Tom Cruise became very familiar with helicopters while filming of Mission: Impossible—Fallout. After going through some intense prep work to achieve that insane chopper chase scene in the action flick, he became a licensed pilot. And, per Millie Bobby Brown, the blockbuster star has apparently been trying to extend that love of the craft to her. The British actor recently spoke at the 92nd Street Y for a recording of an upcoming Happy Sad Confused podcast episode and revealed (via People) that she'd "flown his helicopter before:" She also said this about her buddy:
He's a dear friend. He's a wonderful man and I'm very lucky to call him my friend. Tom does the craziest stuff. I think he's trying to get me to somehow fly a plane at some point.
Oh my! Then again, I guess I shouldn't have expected anything less from the daredevil of an actor. Funny enough, though, I'm not sure Brown wants to take him up further helicopter flights or a theoretical plane excursion:

June 6 (Reuters) - The U.S. approved the $1.5 billion sale of five Seahawk maritime helicopters to New Zealand, which has pledged to nearly ‌double its military spending as it seeks to boost defence capabilities.
"The ‌U.S. Department of State has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of New Zealand for MH-60R Multi-Mission Helicopters and related equipment," the department said in a statement on its website on Friday.

"The proposed sale will improve New Zealand's capability to meet current and future warfare threats by providing greater security for its critical infrastructure," the State Department said, adding that New Zealand would "use the enhanced capability to strengthen its homeland defense".
The ‌purchase of the Seahawk helicopters, made by Lockheed Martin's Sikorsky unit, is part of a 2025 plan by New Zealand's centre-right government to boost defence spending by NZ$9 billion ($5 billion) over four years and nearly double spending to 2% of gross domestic product in eight years.
