The Oklahoma City Thunder have developed their team over the decades via the usual ways most teams in the NBA have, finding special success through the NBA draft since their founding as the Seattle SuperSonics. Many of the franchise's top players have joined the team either through direct selections in the annual draft or via trades executed on that day.
On top of this, the Thunder have selected not only several star players through the draft but also a number of notable alumni each offseason. Under the 2024 and 2025 CFP selection format, the five highest-ranked conference champions received automatic bids, regardless of conference. Right off the bat, left tackle Rashawn Slater, who left the first padded practice on Tuesday, warmed up with the team and played a couple of snaps at left tackle during 11-on-11. He rotated with Trey Pipkins and Branson Taylor.
Taylor saw the most reps at left guard with the first-team offensive line in front of quarterback Justin Herbert. In fact, he took all of the reps unless he was moved to left tackle. The Chargers might like the growth they have seen from his rookie year until now, which could explain why he is seeing consistent playing time.

Aug. 6—VERMILLION, S.D. — When Nathan Laperi arrived at the University of South Dakota a year ago, his focus was simply to earn a spot, learn a new defense and adjust to life as a transfer.
Now, just one season later, the Plano, Texas, native has entered the Coyotes' preseason football practices carrying a different responsibility. Laperi is no longer simply fighting for playing time. He is being asked to help lead a developing Coyotes defense.
It has been an outstanding rise for a player entering only his second season with the program after transferring from North Texas, where he spent his true freshman season in 2024. Yet within the program, Laperi has become one of the voices teammates lean toward, a role that was reinforced when he represented USD alongside teammate Tysen Boze at Missouri Valley Football Conference Media Day in July.
For a defense replacing several experienced players, particularly along the defensive line, the trust that the coaches have placed in Laperi says as much about his consistency off the field as it does on it.
"I feel a lot more comfortable coming into this year, especially rotating behind two really good players last year in Caden Crawford and Nyle ***** el," Laperi said. "And the biggest thing I have done this offseason is going back and watching some of the games from last year and watching the reps I was in, as well as the reps those two guys were in. Those were two guys that I watched and learned from every day last year."

ALCOA – Diana Cantú had to make sure she wasn't dreaming.
The Tennessee women's golf coach was watching from just off the green as Kyra Van Kan set herself up to sink the short putt that won the program's first SEC championship in program history on April 21.
Cantú turned to her ****** istant coach, Kristen Golightly, and asked, "Just to make sure, if she makes this, we win, right? I'm not making this up?"
"I just looked up to God and my dad up in heaven. IndyCar's Andretti Global Racing will keep its current three-driver lineup intact for the 2027 season as Marcus Ericsson will return to the team. Ericsson, the winner of the Indianapolis 500 in 2022 with Chip Ganassi Racing, was in the final year of his contract at Andretti Global.
The team announced Ericsson's return on Thursday, August 6.

DANVILLE — With the first day of practice for every Illinois prep football team, the Danville Vikings were one of the first on the field.
The Vikings started its season with a morning practice at Ned Whitesell Field on Wednesday.
"I was looking up a Texas team that was doing a midnight madness, so I don't think that it matters where you start," Danville head coach Marcus Forrest said. "The biggest reason why it is different for everyone is how many days that you have to prepare. In understanding that the preparation days are different, you figure out that things will get shortened and what time you have spent. It has been beneficial because they go in camp and get ready to play. Everything has been real consistent."
The early start is also a thing that has been consistent in the Vikings' summer, which makes Wednesday's practice just

Marlon Humphrey had one primary goal entering his 10th NFL season. The Baltimore Ravens cornerback wanted to feel healthy again. During an appearance on "The Lounge," Humphrey revealed that an issue he allowed to linger during training camp affected him throughout the 2025 season. Humphrey's determination to participate in every practice did more harm than good.
"Last year, man, it was a really tough year from the health perspective," Humphrey said. "I let something linger for a while, and I kind of pushed really hard to get through training camp."
Humphrey said he was Baltimore's only veteran to participate in every training camp practice last year. Team officials encouraged him to take time off, but his old-school mentality would not allow him to walk away after doing only a portion of the work.
"If someone comes up to you and says, 'We want you to take this day,' even if you go out there and do a little, I was like, 'Nah, I'm doing the whole day,'" Humphrey said.
Looking back, Humphrey acknowledged that he should have listened.

From the second the Detroit Lions drafted Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson, it was obvious this franchise was going to change. Not many players have the ability to turn an entire defense around, but Hutchinson is one of those players, and that's what he's helped do.
Hutchinson is certainly one of the best pass rushers in the game. He's a bright light in what has been an inconsistent defense for the Lions. Now, he's getting the respect he deserves.
On Thursday, Bleacher Report released a list of the 1,000 best players in the NFL going into the new season. Of course, 1,000 is a huge list, but it makes for an interesting read. "To tackle all this, our scouts conducted an exhaustive film review and ****** igned each player a grade," the publication states.
Hutchinson got the No. 66 spot on this tally. Even though the argument could be made for him to be higher, No. 66 out of 1,000 is pretty darn good.

Newcastle United chief executive David Hopkinson has insisted the club's dramatic summer represents the beginning of a new era rather than the end of the Magpies' ambitions.
Speaking to The Athletic following Eddie Howe's departure and Matthias Jaissle's appointment, along with a flurry of important changes to the squad, Hopkinson unveiled what he called "Newcastle United 2.0" and argued the club is building for sustained success despite losing several of its biggest names.
"We're going forwards, in a way that is built to last," Hopkinson said. "We are pivoting in line with our reality, but we will surge forward from here and get into a position where we can win consistently. This Newcastle 2.0 team will be young, hungry, ambitious, relentless. They want to be here and they will fight for everything. This is exciting. This is transformational. This is intentional. Of all of the position groups on campus in 2026, the Texas Longhorns' running backs group will look the most different from the 2025 campaign.
When the transfer portal opened, the Longhorns saw their top four running backs make the choice to take their talents elsewhere — Quintrevion Wisner left for Florida State, Christian Clark went to South Carolina, CJ Baxter transferred to Kentucky, and Jerrick Gibson landed at Purdue. While losing that much at one position group normally sends up red flags, last year's crop was missing something vital to the offense's success — explosive playmakers.
If you remove quarterback Arch Manning's production on the ground, Texas rushed for 107.1 yards per game and just seven touchdowns in 13 games. In fact, Texas failed to eclipse the 100-yard rushing mark on five occasions a year ago, including the narrow overtime win over Kentucky and the two conference losses to Florida and Georgia.
"Our inability to create any explosive runs tonight showed up and I thought we had some opportunities to do it," head coach Steve Sarkisian said after the offense sputtered in Lexington. "We missed some opportunities in the run game to maybe be a little bit better… Consistency in the run game, efficiency in the run game is critical, and we weren't efficient enough tonight in that aspect of the offense either."
Injuries played a role, as Baxter and Clark both suffered season-ending injuries in 2024 before Baxter and Wisner both battled hamstring issues early last season.

BEREA ― Jared Verse had spent the better part of nearly two hours making life miserable for Browns rookie left tackle Spencer Fano during training camp practice. The 15 or 20 minutes after practice, the Pro Bowl defensive end was going to do his part to help his teammate.
So there on the hot practice field, as others headed toward the cool of the locker room, was Verse working one-on-one with Fano. With each move he showed the young tackle, he explained some of the secrets to counter what he was doing.
"That's really cool," Browns coach Todd Monken said the next day. "I walked up to Jared and said, 'man, we're so lucky you're a Brown. I mean holy s*** how cool is this?' Because he's not only a great leader, but he also works his rear end off every day, and after practice he's trying to get Spencer better. I stood right behind him listening to what he was talking about, and it was bang, bang, bang, five reps in a row of his footwork, then talking through what he was going to do, how he could redirect, how he could use his hands and punch. It was within five reps I saw Spencer get better."

I broke down the 2027 scouting classes in my early summer scouting series, and the room has a ton of potential with a long list of potential standout players. I broke down the offense and defense in articles and I suggest reading those for a broad aspect of the room. The Raiders do have some talent on the interior OL, and I'd expect Las Vegas to add more in 2027 as John Spytek does. The Raiders will see Jeremy Chinn possibly hit free agency, and they did add rookies Treydan Stuke & Dalton Johnson this last year, though Stukes likely will play a diverse bandit safety role leaving some holes in the FS and SS positions. The 2027 draft class is exceptional at safety, and Las Vegas could really use a rangy over the top free safety that they have lacked for a long time.

Tae Johnson, Notre Dame – 6'3/195, R-So
Elite. Johnson is coming off a 2025 where in his first year as a starter he logged 51 tackles, 4 INT, and 7 PBU with another 2 TD and a FF. Johnson allowed a 51.7 QBR, is an elite tackler, and he's an uber athlete. He has a phenomenal first step and continues to show sideline to sideline ability. Johnson plays physical, has elite hip flexibility, and he uses his full body in most reps with an ability to consistently turn and run and take away passing lanes. Johnson is smart, he has an ability to read and react well, and with his first step quickness Johnson can close passing lanes quickly to jump routes. As a run defender, Johnson is able to drive downfield, he's shown good great tackling angles, and is just a strong tackler overall. There's a lot of potential for Johnson to be even better than Xavier Watts, Alohi Gilman, and Kyle Hamilton.
