It's no secret that Arm Holdings (NASDAQ: ARM) is a crucial piece of the artificial intelligence (AI) puzzle. But how often do you think of Arm as a top-shelf AI investment? It's easy to forget this impressive compounder amid the glitzy hypergrowth of Nvidia's and AMD's expensive AI accelerators.
Arm doesn't build the chips that train large language models. The company doesn't actually build chips at all. Instead, Arm designs fundamental instruction sets and CPU cores. It licenses those designs to anyone with a fab contract and an ambition and collects a royalty on every unit shipped. It's basically a toll booth on a road that keeps getting wider.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Arm's toll road used to run almost entirely through smartphones. Now it runs through the data center too. Nvidia's Vera CPU pairs Arm cores with its accelerators. Amazon's Graviton, Microsoft's Cobalt, and Alphabet's Google Axion are all Arm-based, built in-house by companies that spend like nation-states on server capacity.
Every AI cluster on the planet needs general-purpose compute to feed the high-speed AI accelerators, handle networking, and run the orchestration layer. A growing share of that work sits on Arm designs.

A company that specializes in autonomous power deployment said it has raised $31.8 million to scale its operations, with investments from major groups including Google and Bill Gates-founded Breakthrough Energy Ventures (BEV). California-based Planted said the new capital expands its robotic fleet. The company said the funding also supports the launch of Sage, its next-generation robot, as demand outpaces the company's current capacity.Planted on September 15 said the funding round was led by Piva Capital and RA Capital Management Planetary Health, with participation from Gigascale Capital and Open AI-backer Khosla Ventures, along with Google and BEV. Gigascale Capital was founded by former Meta executive Mike Schroepfer."Globally, solar needs to be deployed about five times faster than it is today to hit the scale experts project we'll need by 2050, and the gap is growing as the industry confronts constraints involving supply chains, land, interconnection, and skilled labor," said Eric Brown, CEO of Planted. "The way to close that gap is to turn the construction of a power plant into a manufacturing problem: building robots and deployment systems, not just projects. We have robots in the field proving the model works today. This round is how we scale it."
Brown's group on Tuesday said a record 664 GW of solar photovoltaic power was installed worldwide last year, but noted terawatts of new generation capacity are needed to meet projected demand. The company said it combines planning software, high-density terrain-following solar arrays, storage, and field robotics into one system, which enables Planted to build on parcels of land that legacy trackers cannot use. The company said its system also delivers twice the energy per acre, resulting in smaller project footprints and a lower profile on the landscape.Planted said its array "is simplified, designed for automation, and defined in software," and thus can deliver new power generation capacity in months rather than years. Planted's most recent build, a 28-MW behind-the-meter project serving a neocloud data center, went from first call to power in 10 months, with field construction completed in under three months.Planted on Tuesday said the company's development model "is proven and bankable," and noted its projects carry independent engineering validation and project financing. The company completed Bowes Solar, an 11-MW project in Illinois for Cultivate Power, and will next build Aligned Climate Capital's Armoracia project on 16 acres, 10 fewer than the original design required. The denser redesign moved the project through local review after the initial layout was rejected, according to the company. Planted, which deployed more than 10 MW in 2025, is on track for 100 MW in 2026, a 10x jump in a single year, with a project pipeline of more than 20 GW.The company said Sage, the next-generation robot, will be deployed later this year.

Washington's biggest question this week: Why is President Donald Trump so furiously against an AI slowdown in the wake of apocalyptic warnings from some top industry executives?
The clue is in one word — "hoax" — that he's using to ridicule fears that computerized agents could one day seek to destroy humanity.
When Trump reaches for the H-word, two things are usually happening: He's facing a controversy threatening his political or personal priorities, and he's lost control of the politics.
Trump has long dismissed climate change as a "hoax." So it was a tell that he went on social media to specifically draw an ******* ogy between a planet that is warming despite his denials and the calls for AI controls expressed by leaders in the industry.
By changing reality, Trump frees himself from an obligation to act. In energy policy, that means "drill, baby, drill." His administration has slashed regulation, pleasing oil industry donors. His rants against wind farms suggest he hankers for a 20th-century economy running on carbon.

The 84-year-old singer discussed his concerns about climate change, global hunger and President Donald Trump in an interview with The Guardian published September 4.

He also expressed concern about climate change, saying: "It's real that the planet is getting warmer, that the water's rising, that so many people are starving."
Garfunkel went on to question President Trump's actions involving Venezuela before saying he was hopeful for the country's future.

Oprah Winfrey is launching a two-hour immersive live show, Oprah Winfrey's AHA, at Las Vegas' Sphere, April 2-4, 2027
The show will feature music, film, sensory effects and performers including Jacob Collier and Ocean Vuong
AHA, which Winfrey says is designed to inspire awe and foster connection, is the "culmination" of what she's worked toward her whole life
Forty years ago, when she first hit the national airwaves, Oprah Winfrey already had a message in mind for the masses that rang true to her: "We're more alike than we're different. You're responsible for your life. There's something inside you that's really special. You have come to this planet and you have a calling."
It's an idea she returned to throughout the 25-season run of The Oprah Winfrey Show and beyond: "I said it in 4,561 shows, and I don't even know how many magazine articles and podcasts."

Dana White hasn't kept his hate for Francis Ngannou private.
Once praising him as the baddest man on the planet, White quickly rescinded those comments and had a complete change of heart toward the Cameroonian. Both men fail to hide their hatred for the other, and rumors surfaced late last year of a previous physical altercation between the two, in which the former UFC heavyweight champion put his hands on the boss. Since then, their bitter feud has grown to an unprecedented extent, making it one of the most intense sagas between fighter and employer in company history.
Dana White having problems with a fighter isn't a new occurrence. He has famously feuded with many of his top stars over the years, but the Francis Ngannou problems run deep. According to White, Ngannou is blacklisted. He even sees the ***** an on the same level as Oscar de la Hoya, a man he has been at odds with for close to a decade.
Discussing his disdain for Ngannou, White turned to problems the fighter has with other promotions, hinting at his underwhelming time competing for the PFL.
"Listen, Ngannou is on my Oscar de la Hoya list," White said. "Look at the history of Francis Ngannou and the other companies he's been with. He's a bad guy, man. He's a bad guy."

Genius, madman, salesman: Elon Musk is the subject of a nearly four-hour documentary at Venice that seeks to unmask the billionaire provocateur with outsized global influence in business, politics and even outer ****** e.
"Musk," premiering Tuesday at the Venice Film Festival, seeks to reframe the story of the world's richest man whose stated ambitions include colonising Mars, transitioning the planet to sustainable energy and protecting free speech, laying bare the "unreality of his narrative," Oscar-winning documentarian Alex Gibney said.
"I wanted to understand what game he is playing," says director Gibney at the start of the film about the man long considered a rule-breaking genius whose erratic behaviour and shift to right-wing politics has alienated -- and confused -- many.
Gibney said Musk's story was "oddly familiar" to him, having treated other larger-than-life characters in past films, from the executives behind the Enron scandal to former Theranos boss Elizabeth Holmes.
"His story is the story of an old wine and a new bottle. His story turns out to be the story of the confidence man, the stock pumper," said Gibney, adding that much of what Musk says "has an air of unreality around it".

Over the past several years, Angel Reese has emerged as one of the most high-profile female athletes on the planet. With that, however, has come some unwanted attention when she posts certain photos on social media.
Reese has never been shy about sharing photos in bikinis or other forms of revealing clothing. And she made it pretty clear that she has no intention of apologizing for it.
In addition to sharing bikini photos on her own social channels, Reese has also appeared in the SI Swimsuit and has also partnered with Victoria's Secret on a number of occasions.
Back in 2023, when Reese was still with the LSU Tigers at the college level, Reese posed with SI Swimsuit for the first time.
"I had on thong bathing suits and I didn't think I was going to be comfortable, but [everyone] made me feel really comfortable," Reese said at the time. "I work out a lot. I embrace my body and who I am and every mark on my body. I probably feel the ******* iest in a bathing suit."

Drew Barrymore and her ex-husband Will Kopelman share two daughters, Olive (born 2012) and Frankie (born 2014).
While Barrymore and Kopelman share glimpses of their children's lives publicly, they are both intentional about keeping them out of the public eye as much as possible.
The two divorced in 2016.
When Drew Barrymore isn't busy as a talk show host, actress, and producer, she takes pride in raising her two daughters, Olive and Frankie, and giving them an upbringing very different from her own less-than-perfect childhood.

Altrata's Billionaire Census 2026 delivers a single figure that reframes how concentrated the top of the global wealth pyramid has become. The planet's 29 richest people, who make up 0.7% of the billionaire population, held a combined net worth of $4.1tn in 2025, or 27% of all billionaire wealth. The report calls this group the "superbillionaires," and the share they command has moved sharply in a very short window.
The threshold for superbillionaire status is a personal fortune in excess of $50bn. That is a net worth cutoff, not income, and Altrata's figures reflect the estimated value of an individual's total **** et base as of the 2025 data year. The combined wealth of the 29 implies an average fortune in the region of $140bn, though the report notes the distribution inside the tier is far from uniform.

BERLIN (AP) — Opponents will be looking up to China during the women's FIBA World Cup, starting with the the United States.
The Americans and everyone else will have to navigate around and over some of the tallest women on the planet: China's 19-year-old Zhang Ziyu stands 7-foot-3. The U.S. team is already familiar with 6-10 Han Xu from her WNBA games with the New York Liberty.
If not for a passport mishap, Zhang and Han would be joined by another center — 6-7 Li Yueru, who plays with the WNBA's Dallas Wings. Li posted on social media Wednesday that her passport was lost in the mail and she won't be able to compete.
China opens its campaign against the four-time defending champion in Berlin on Friday.
Zhang wasn't playing when the U.S. beat China 83-61 in the 2022 World Cup final in Sydney for a fourth consecutive gold medal. She made her senior debut at the Women's Asia Cup last year and helped China capture the bronze, averaging 14.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in the tournament.

The Oklahoma Sooners kick off their 2026 college football season on Friday against the University of Texas at El Paso Miners. This will mark the first step of Oklahoma's pursuit of a return to the College Football Playoff.
This season will feature some players who are expected to have an enhanced role compared to last year. One of those is second-year safety Omarion Robinson. The former four-star appeared in nine games last year, totaling just three tackles. He mainly played on special teams. This year, he's listed as the backup to Peyton Bowen and Michael Boganowski at both safety spots.
Head coach Brent Venables revealed at his game week press conference that he can already see Robinson playing with more confidence.
"I see him playing with a different level of confidence than he did a year ago," Venables said. "Just on a different planet from that standpoint. And again, the consistency thing is what jumps out the most. He's earned a lot of trust. The more he plays, the better he gets."
That trust could be especially important for Robinson as Oklahoma looks to maintain the strength of it secondary. The Sooners lost Robert Spears-Jennings to the NFL draft and Jaydan Hardy to the Colorado Buffaloes, creating opportunities for younger safeties behind Bowen and Boganowski.

Every WNBA offseason used to mean one thing for the league's biggest names: hopping a flight overseas, grinding through unfamiliar gyms, and hoping the body held up before training camp. That routine is losing its grip fast.
Unrivaled CEO Alex Bazzell made the case for why in blunt terms, telling Front Office Sports that his 3-on-3 startup is now the single safest league in women's basketball to play in anywhere on the planet.
"There's a lot of data around our players and the wear and tear," Bazzell said. "It's the safest league right now to play in compared to other leagues."
That claim isn't just marketing. Bazzell backed it with a number that should worry every overseas offseason league still trying to poach WNBA talent: 38% of Unrivaled's players are putting up career-high scoring averages back in the WNBA this season, a stat he credits directly to how the league trains its athletes rather than simply running them into the ground.
"Come in, get better every day, compete against the best, make great money," Bazzell said, describing the environment he believes separates Unrivaled from the pack.

Sept 1 (Reuters) - Scientists have made a possible breakthrough in the hunt for dark matter — observing hints of it during an experiment about a mile (1.6 km) underground in South Dakota — though they stopped short of saying they have finally detected this elusive cosmic component.
The researchers described a particle interaction ‌documented at the Sanford Underground Research Facility — built in a former gold mine in the state's Black Hills region — that may have involved a hypothesized particle called a ‌WIMP, short for "weakly interacting massive particle." This is one of the proposed candidates for being a dark matter particle.
Ordinary matter makes up stars, planets, people and everything else we can see. But it represents only about 15% of all the matter in the universe. The rest is thought to be dark matter, which does not emit or reflect light, making it invisible to the human eye and to telescopes. But scientists are confident dark matter exists because of its gravitational effects at galactic scales.
Particle physicist Sam Eriksen of the University of Bristol in England, lead author of a study describing the work, said it "could be the first hint of a dark matter observation."

The days of cakewalks for the U.S. women's basketball team are over.
Anyone shrugging at the news A'ja Wilson will not play at the upcoming FIBA World Cup, ***** uming the Americans are so loaded with talent they won't miss the greatest player on the planet, hasn't been paying attention. The world has caught up to the U.S. women and, even with a roster of All-Stars, the World Cup is going to offer a glimpse for players and fans alike of what's in store at the Los Angeles Olympics.
The World Cup begins Friday, Sept. 4, in Berlin, Germany, with the U.S. playing 2022 silver medalist China.
For seemingly forever, the U.S. women have dominated the international game. They've won an unprecedented eight consecutive Olympic gold medals, and nine of the last 12 World Cups. The last game they lost at the Olympics or World Cup — not the ***** le, just a game — was back in 2006, before Caitlin Clark had even started grade school.
Most of the U.S. women's wins have come easily. Games that were over by halftime. Games that were even bigger blowouts than the double-digit victory margins indicated.
