Manchester Storm said the team is preparing for an "emotional" return as the city prepares to welcome them home for the first time in 24 years.
The team will face Sheffield Steelers in a pre-season game at 16:00 BST on Sunday at Manchester's AO Arena.
It comes after they left Planet Ice in Altrincham.
The club said it was looking like it was going to be a **** per crowd and could even set a new record attendance by any Elite Ice Hockey League team.
Goalie Drew DeRidder said on the club's official podcast Stormcast that playing at the AO Arena was a "game-changer".

Barrow have signed midfielder Keaton Ward from fellow National League side Gateshead.
The 26-year-old, who scored five goals in 18 games after signing for the Heed in January, also counts Boston United and Altrincham among his former clubs.
Barrow have not disclosed the length of Ward's deal.

A keen rugby player and strongman described by his mother as a "gentle giant" had a prescription for anti-psychotic medication withdrawn weeks before his death, an inquest heard.
James Snowden, who had struggled with suicidal feelings since childhood, was 21 when his body was found at his family home in Altrincham in December 2024.
Manchester South Coroner's Court heard after numerous attempts to take his own life he had been prescribed sulpiride in 2021 - which his mother said had helped him "pursue a full life".
When James died he was under the care of the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, which will give evidence throughout the week and has been approached for comment.
However, the court heard that on 26 November 2024, James had attended an appointment to plan for the gradual withdrawal of the drug.

In the summer before Match of the Dames launched, founder Anne Morris walked around the stands at non-league Altrincham FC with one goal in mind - to count the number of women.
And the result - just a tiny fraction of the total crowd - gave her all the motivation she needed.
Morris told the BBC: "We think the stands have been a boy's club long enough.
"I walked around and the ground, the ticket gate was 1,200 and I counted about 88 women."
A new project was born, and is now positively thriving.

Altrincham have signed forward Kristian Dennis ahead of the 2026-27 National League season.
The 36-year-old joins having left Tranmere Rovers where he played for three seasons in League Two.
"I'm looking forward to start pre-season training, getting to know the lads and the coaching staff and gearing up for the new season," he said.
"It's great to be here and I'm looking forward to playing in front of the fans. The season can't start soon enough."

Former Manchester United defender Sonny Aljofree is looking for a new club.
Aljofree joined Manchester United’s first team training in 2022 but spent most of his career out on loan.
The 21-year-old first joined Altrincham for two loan spells, first in 2023 and then in 2024.
He then enjoyed a successful loan spell at Accrington Stanley, where he played regularly. The centre-back played 27 matches and even scored three goals for the League Two side.
Aljofree then joined Notts County on loan last season but could not earn a regular place in the team, making just 11 appearances in total.
