At least one in four NFL players could develop chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a progressive brain disease linked to repeated head impacts, new research suggests.
Researchers found CTE in 215 of 878 former NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021, meaning 24.5 percent have died with CTE. The study was led by Dr. Daniel Daneshvar, a physician and researcher at Mass General Brigham and Harvard Medical School, along with researchers from Boston University and other institutions.
That figure may underestimate how common CTE is among former NFL players. Researchers examined the brains of 235 of the 878 players who died during the study period, leaving 643 brains unexamined.
CTE is caused by repeated head impacts and can only be definitively diagnosed after death. It is extremely rare without repeated head trauma. The disease can cause memory loss, confusion, mood changes, impaired decision-making, impulsive behavior and addiction, according to the American Brain Foundation.
CTE was first identified in boxers nearly a century ago and has since been found in other athletes exposed to repeated head impacts, including hockey, rugby, soccer, wrestling and bobsledding. Researchers have also found evidence suggesting military personnel exposed to repeated blasts may be at risk.

It's late summer, which means there is once again confusion around the Arizona Diamondbacks and the status of their star second baseman, Ketel Marte.
The mercurial veteran was set to play on Monday against the Boston Red Sox, but did not show up at Fenway Park for the game. Marte's absence led to a delay in the D'Backs' lineup announcement and a tense postgame scene. Manager Torey Lovullo, with tears in his eyes, expressed support for the player while stating the team would keep Marte's situation "private."
Late Monday night, Arizona Sports radio host John Gambadoro reported that Marte had been seen Sunday at Arizona's team hotel bar around 11 p.m. And by morning, Marte had been placed on the restricted list and was reportedly headed back to Phoenix for an MRI on his knee.
Much is still unknown about what caused Marte to miss the game, how the miscommunication between Marte and the team occurred, and the nature of Marte's knee injury. D'Backs fans, though, are used to these sorts of situations around their baseball star.
Exactly a year ago, another Arizona Sports host, Dan Bickley, defended the station's reporting on teammates' frustration with Marte's constant time off. The second baseman has somewhat inexplicably missed games in each of the past four seasons, including the entire first series after the 2025 All-Star break, when his Dominican Republic home was reportedly burglarized.

Perhaps the most ironic thing about the Kickoff Classics is celebrating a win or lamenting a loss that doesn't even count.
High school football teams in Florida will wake up this weekend with a 0-0 record regardless of what happened in the preseason game.
Then again, just because the games don't count doesn't mean they don't matter.
They do.
Exactly how much they matter depends on your perspective. Most teams don't open the playbook, and schemes tend to be pretty vanilla. But there's a reason why these games are played and it's a lot more than just hitting someone in a different color jersey.

NEW YORK – Giancarlo Stanton was seen running bases Tuesday afternoon, another benchmark toward his – still not-yet-determined – return to the Yankees lineup.
"When that time comes, obviously, it'll be very good to get him back,'' said Yanks manager Aaron Boone, prior to Yanks vs. Mariners at the Stadium.
Stanton has not been in the Yankees' lineup since April 25, due to two strained left calf injuries.
"He's stacked a lot of good days,'' said Boone, adding that "there's at least a chance'' that Stanton would require some degree of a minor league rehab stint.
Exactly when he's ready for that next step isn't known. "When they (the medical staff) say we're ready to do something, then we go,'' said Boone.

During the July 21 episode of CNBC's Mad Money, host Jim Cramer reviewed Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE:MA) using options trader Bob Lang's **** ysis of the daily chart of the stock. Pointing to the company as a premier vehicle for investors seeking to rebalance away from pure tech without sacrificing growth or high-margin processing power, Cramer highlighted its market share and recent price action:
I want to talk about the next chart, which is one of my absolute favorites. Michael Miebach runs it. It's Mastercard, MA, second most commonly used credit card. 25 to 30% of cardholders have one. Again, you can see that the stock's gone crazy in the last few weeks. Bouncing like mad off of its June lows. Although, unlike Visa, it still hasn't taken out its January highs. This is what I mean, by the way, when I say you need to diversify away from some of your tech. Mastercard is a tech company in bank clothing. It's always been a terrific place to be.
Examining the daily chart, Cramer highlighted that Bob Lang noted that Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE:MA) has constructed a textbook bullish trend channel marked by a series of higher highs and higher lows since hitting its June bottom. The stock's moving average convergence divergence (MACD) line generated a buy signal last month, while its relative strength index continues to trend upward without reaching overbought territory. Elevated volume and a rising on-balance volume line further validate the move. Cramer noted that Lang sees that the stock has legs, with primary technical resistance sitting at $573, representing roughly $35 in potential upside toward where the stock traded prior to a January gap down, giving Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE:MA) a clear path to challenge its January highs.
In Cramer's breakdown of the payment landscape, Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE:MA) occupies a middle ground in cardholder reach while sharing a critical structural moat with market leader Visa Inc. (NYSE:V). While Visa commands the top spot with 60% of cardholders and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) handles roughly 10% of purchase volume, Mastercard sits solidly in second place with 25% to 30% cardholder penetration. Both Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) and Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE:MA) operate strictly as **** et-light processing networks with zero credit exposure, completely insulating them from default losses that direct lenders like American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) must carry on their balance sheets. On the technical side, while Visa has already surged past its January peak, Mastercard is still catching up after bouncing off its June floor, giving investors a high-margin processing stock.

During the Tuesday episode of Mad Money, host Jim Cramer discussed the major credit card networks as he noted that consumer spending remains resilient. He began by highlighting the broader economic data and noted that roughly 81% of Americans hold a credit card, averaging three to four cards per consumer, with cardholders using about 29% to 30% of their available balance. Even though the median household holds approximately $8,000 in cash, consumers continue to prefer credit over drawing down savings. Explaining how these consumer habits feed into the major card networks, Cramer noted:
All this is to say that the three big credit card companies, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express have a tremendous read on the state of the economy, and after a very rocky first quarter, these stocks have been steadily chugging higher since April.
Examining the daily chart of market leader Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) with the help of Bob Lang's (founder of Explosive Options) **** ysis, Cramer highlighted how the stock's recent technical breakout contradicts theories of a struggling consumer:
Why don't we start with Visa? That's the most used credit card. 60% of cardholders have one... Check out the daily chart. Visa's been roaring higher on terrific relative strength lately. I mean, this is not what Visa's chart looks like when the consumer's being squeezed. When you look at the moving average convergence divergence, that's the MACD… That's an important momentum indicator that can detect changes in the stock's trajectory before they happen… This isn't a coincidence; this is predictive. It made a bullish crossover mid-June. That's what really got people excited... And it's one of the most positively reliable patterns there is out there. Sure enough, the stock's been on fire ever since the cross...
Cramer also pointed to the volume indicator at the bottom of the chart to highlight the influx of big-money accumulation:

Justin Marks has spent the last several years transforming Trackhouse Entertainment Group into one of NASCAR’s fastest-growing organizations. Now, that vision appears to be expanding again, this time with plans for what could become one of the company’s biggest investments away from the race track.
Since purchasing Chip Ganassi Racing’s NASCAR operation ahead of the 2022 season, Marks has steadily expanded the company beyond a traditional Cup Series team. Trackhouse has launched the international Project91 program, entered MotoGP ownership, created a music label, and continued investing in its NASCAR operation.
Now, another major project appears to be taking shape.
According to public records first reported by the Charlotte Business Journal, Trackhouse Entertainment Group is planning a new race team facility in Kannapolis, North Carolina. The Kannapolis City Council recently approved an annexation request covering roughly 20 acres along Davidson Highway, representing one of the first formal steps toward development.
While no construction timeline has been announced, the proposal signals Trackhouse’s intention to continue investing in its long-term infrastructure.

The ministry has approved the project’s plans to raise $195,000 from private sector firms and donors, Brazil’s Livecoins reported.
However, the campaign must wrap up funding by the end of the year.
