Gov. Gavin Newsom on Saturday signed legislation to increase security for the state's voting systems and protect Californians' ability to cast ballots in an effort to guard against potential interference in the Nov. 3 election, including by the Trump administration.
Newsom pointed to the Trump administration's recent effort to restrict mail-in voting through the U.S. Postal Service, which was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court, and the presence of federal monitors at California polls last year as evidence that Trump "will continue his efforts to interfere with the November election."
"Donald Trump won't stop until he can exert dictatorial control over your free vote and disenfranchise millions of people this November. California will stop him at every opportunity," Newsom said in a statement. "We have no bigger task than fighting to protect the right to vote from interference and meddling — the future of democracy is on the line. These bills today build upon the wall California has built to safeguard our electoral process."

The company's CFO said there is now "even more conviction" around the target. A new AI hosting agreement worth $13 billion on an annualized basis adds significant support to that outlook and reflects how quickly ***** eX's compute business is scaling. But the financial picture behind that growth is less straightforward. The outlook is supported by a newly signed AI hosting agreement worth $1.11 billion per month beginning in December, or roughly $13 billion on an annualized basis. The company plans to end the year with a little over 2 gigawatts of terrestrial AI-computing capacity and scale to between 5 and 10 gigawatts in 2027. Orbital computing remains a longer-term option for overcoming power constraints. Its current agreements include a $6.7 billion cloud-services contract that is scheduled to ramp up in October. Existing arrangements with Google and Anthropic are worth more than $2 billion per month combined. Reaching the $100 billion target would require monthly revenue to more than triple from second-quarter's pace.
SpaceX's rocket and Starlink businesses generated roughly $1.1 billion in combined operating income in the second quarter. But the AI division's $1.3 billion loss more than wiped out that profit. The company also generated roughly negative $25 billion in free cash flow during the first half of 2026. The stock declined more than 5% after the second-quarter results despite a revenue beat.

On September 11, Elastic (NYSE:ESTC) rolled out Elasticsearch Vector Database, a new serverless offering the company says lets developers ship large-scale vector search and AI applications without stitching together the usual pile of infrastructure themselves. The launch landed less than three weeks after Elastic posted first-quarter fiscal 2027 results on August 27, for the period ended July 31, giving investors a fresh product story to weigh against a quarter that already showed accelerating growth.
The new database automates what used to require manual **** embly: chunking documents, hosting embedding and reranking models, configuring indexes, and wiring query-time retrieval. Elastic built in expert-tuned defaults, a single field type that handles indexing, embeddings, and chunking together, and hybrid search that combines full-text and vector retrieval in one query. The system scales to hundreds of billions of vectors using Elastic's Better Binary Quantization, which the company says shrinks vector memory by up to 32 times while keeping recall high, and pricing is based on data and search capacity rather than the opaque compute units the company says define most pure-play vector database pricing.

Meta Platforms (META) stock is riding a near 20% rally this month with shares boosted by optimism about its Muse AI agent app and, more recently, custom chips. The next test for Meta's rally comes next week.
Meta is hosting its annual Connect developer conference starting Wednesday. Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg typically uses the event to preview the company's slate of application updates and new hardware. Last year's event focused on Meta's Ray-Ban Display smart glasses.
But Meta has been plenty busy ahead of the big conference at its Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters. Its recent rally was kick-started by the release of its Muse AI agent application earlier this month. The application quickly climbed toward the top of the download charts.

Maybe it's a me thing, but I've been craving the thrill and suspense of an award show. The Jacksonville Jaguars are hosting a month-long celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month throughout September, launching community outreach programs and student-athlete recognition under the banner "Somos DUUUVAL."
The initiative addresses the growth of the Hispanic and Latino community in Northeast Florida through youth sports, literacy outreach, and leadership initiatives.
Adriel Rocha, the Jaguars vice president of community impact and youth development, emphasized the initiative's focus on community service and culture. "Hispanic Heritage Month is a reminder of the rich culture, contributions and leadership of the Hispanic community and through Somos DUUUVAL, the Jaguars strive to celebrate and strengthen that spirit in Jacksonville," Rocha said. The "Real Housewives" OG brought a little Atlanta to New York Fashion Week, attending Sergio Hudson's spring/summer 2027 show on Sunday, Sept. 13. Hudson brought the glamour to NYFW, hosting his show at one of New York's most iconic venues — the Rainbow Room.
Guests including Mickey Guyton, Muni Long and Sunny Hostin ventured to top of Rockefeller Center for Hudson, but it was Leakes who stole the show. The "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star entered the glittering ballroom moments before the first model took to the runway, but that didn't stop a swarm of photographers and fans from trying to get a snap of the Bravo star. Leakes took her seat next to "Beauty in Black" actress Crystle Stewart as the two posed for front-row photos.
Leakes showed off a classic Hudson creation, donning a bodycon little black dress from the designer's fall-winter '24 collection. The sleeveless LBD featured an extra-long gold zipper extending from the neckline to the hem. The reality star styled the look with black patent pumps and a gold-embellished clutch.

COLUMBIA — The South Carolina football game against Towson has been stopped and delayed due to weather.
The Gamecocks (1-0) are hosting Towson (0-2) on Sept. 12 in Williams-Brice Stadium but lighting struck around 9:05 p.m. ET, pausing the game for the time being.
The score is currently 24-3 with 12:07 left in the third quarter.
Per program policy, "Should a lightning strike occur within 8 miles of the stadium, play will be stopped immediately. Play will resume 30 minutes after the last strike occurs within the 8-mile threat radius."
According to The Weather Channel, storms are suppose to continue until roughly 10:15 ET as of now.

The White Sox beat the Cleveland Blues, 12-4, in Chicago to clinch the franchise's first pennant. (The American League would not be recognized as an official major league until 1901, however.) Roy Patterson got the win in the game.
The season seemed to set the tone for the franchise, with exceptional pitching and defense — and just enough hitting to win games. Cleveland manager Jimmy McAleer said as much after the Sox clinched against his club: "It's the strangest thing that ever happened. A club with no good batsman to win a flag! Why, such a thing was never heard of before. [Dick] Padden has done most of it. He has been the whole works, and has shown himself a born general. The pitchers did the rest, with special credit to that lad Patterson."
Brett Ballantini devoted an episode of South Side Sox's Flashback to this win, back in 2019.

Ultimately, the White Sox did not prevail for the pennant, but don't say they didn't put up a fight. Arriving at Detroit's Bennett Park for a five-game set against the first-place Tigers and behind by three games, the White Sox won the opener, then played four consecutive extra-inning games to finish out the series, splitting them. On this day, the White Sox got back to just two games out with a 2-1 victory in 10 innings. Frank Smith not only went the distance for his 12th win on the season, he singled in the game-winner in the top of the 10th.

Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz blasted Kansas for its Civil War–themed hype video ahead of Friday's "Border War" college football rivalry game.
"I was disappointed in the rivalry—the turn that it took today," Drinkwitz said after the Tigers beat the Jayhawks 38–21 in Lawrence. "I thought that was uncalled for."
Kansas released a controversial social media video on Thursday ahead of hosting Missouri for the first time since 2005.
"This rivalry is different, because it's built on something much deeper than just school pride," narrator and former Kansas football star Gilbert Brown said. "It's fueled by hatred, passed down through generations. Our roots reach back to the Civil War, when blood was spilt over what you believed in and which side you stood on. There are heroes and villains, only allegiance decides their legacy. There's right and wrong. There's Kansas and Missouri." History is not on the Carolina Panthers' side as they enter the 2026 regular season. They have lost their last four openers and have an all-time record of 11-20 in Week 1. Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is moving further into the autonomous-driving market as it has started offering robotaxi rides using its Cybercab. The company hosted a Cybercab launch event in Austin on September 3.
Following the event, Goldman Sachs maintained a Neutral rating on Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA). The bank has a 12-month price target of $360 on the stock. The firm sees an illustrative upside scenario of about $500 and a downside scenario of roughly $150.
Goldman Sachs said the Cybercab could give the company a cost advantage in the autonomous-vehicle market. However, the firm believes the company's ability to scale its robotaxi business will depend more on software performance than on the cost of manufacturing the vehicle.
Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) said it has completed 1 million miles of unsupervised robotaxi operations. The company is also looking for operators interested in owning Cybercab fleets, running hubs and related infrastructure, or hosting robotaxi events.

It's because they're going to make fortunes with the money they spend. And we are getting closer and closer to seeing huge profits for investments that the Street has hated. You can't wait until next year to buy the stock of Amazon. And that's why it is a screaming buy with the stock trading at about 20 times this year's earnings. That's wrong.
