Costco is expanding its same-day delivery network as it looks to grow e-commerce sales and compete with retailers like Walmart and Target.
The retailer this week launched collaborations with DoorDash (NASDAQ: DASH) and Uber (NYSE: UBER) to pick up online orders at U.S. stores and drive them to the customer's door. The arrangements give Costco more channels to reach customers through ultra-fast delivery, made possible by gig drivers who use the platforms to select ******* ignments.
DoorDash, best known for delivering restaurant food, announced that Costco (NASDAQ: COST) members can now order groceries, dry goods, household essentials and other products from its marketplace and then arrange fast delivery from their local store, all through the DoorDash app. The U.S. launch extends the existing relationship between the companies in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Iceland and Puerto Rico.
DoorDash now serves eight of the 10 largest food retailers in North America.
On Wednesday, Uber announced a major expansion of its partnership with Costco to deliver products in 47 states, up from 17 states. Nearly 600 Costco locations are now available on the Uber Eats app, where shoppers can arrange on-demand and scheduled delivery.

Serve Robotics (SERV) shares have tumbled roughly 20% since the autonomous delivery company lowered its 2026 revenue guidance on Aug. 6. The cut came despite quarterly revenue surging 404% year-over-year (YOY). Serve Robotics also said it may not renew its foundational partnership with Uber (UBER) after it expires in early 2027. The development follows Serve's first decline in Uber Eats delivery volume in 17 consecutive quarters. However, Serve has $240 million in cash and is intentionally expanding into DoorDash (DASH), healthcare robotics, and advertising. The debate now is whether the reset reflects deeper trouble or a strategic effort to diversify beyond a weakening partnership.
Investors should also look closely at the short interest number when it comes to SERV stock. Serve Robotics has a short percentage of float of 31.3%. That's an extremely high number for any company but also brings with it an opportunity — namely, a potential short squeeze. For that to happen, though, there needs to be some retail interest in SERV stock.

Walmart (WMT) recently took another step into restaurant delivery, announcing a national partnership with Inspire Brands that puts it more directly in competition with DoorDash (DASH) and Uber Technologies' (UBER) Uber Eats. But the expansion announced recently is still largely limited to restaurants operating as tenants inside Walmart stores, where the logistics are considerably easier to manage. The bigger question is what happens when the company moves beyond these in-store tenants and takes on the more difficult parts of the restaurant delivery market. Until then, the current expansion says more about Walmart's ambition than its ability to become a structural competitor to the established players.
Walmart is expanding its restaurant delivery strategy through a new collaboration with Inspire Brands, whose portfolio includes Arby's, Jimmy John's, Dunkin, Baskin-Robbins, and Sonic. The partnership will bring restaurant delivery into Walmart's app. Dunkin' will be the first brand to launch, starting with 150 in-store tenant locations. Walmart and Dunkin' then plan to expand the offering to most of Dunkin's roughly 10,000 U.S. restaurants, including locations outside Walmart's stores. The broader opportunity is built around Walmart's existing physical footprint. A customer could place a restaurant order alongside a Walmart purchase and receive both through the same delivery. The retail giant says its footprint is located within 10 miles of about 90% of the U.S. population.

On September 10, 1-800-Flowers.com Inc. (NASDAQ:FLWS) reported fiscal 2026 results that read like a company still finding its footing after a hard year. Full year revenue fell 10.8% to $1.5 billion, and the fourth quarter alone dropped 12.9% to $293.1 million, as consumers stayed selective with discretionary spending on gifts and gourmet food. Buried under those declines, though, is a different story: inventory shrank, free cash flow improved by $55 million, and the company hit a two-year cost savings target a full year early. The question now is whether that discipline can outrun the sales slide.
1-800-Flowers spent fiscal 2026 tearing down the walls between its brands. Instead of separate teams running each brand in silos, the company shifted to functional teams built around marketing, merchandising, and the digital shopping experience, with one team now acting as store manager for every website. That shift already shows up in products: the floral business combined its florist-fulfilled and direct-ship merchandising teams, so the same popular arrangements are available either way, instead of competing against itself on one landing page. Harry & David rolled out a redesigned, mobile-first website with AI-powered search that is currently in A/B testing, and several low-traffic standalone sites were folded into harryanddavid.com to concentrate traffic rather than split it.
The financial discipline behind that reorganization is real. The company reached its $50 million cost savings run rate a full year ahead of schedule and has already lined up another $15 million to $20 million in savings for fiscal 2027, with the full benefit landing in fiscal 2028. That, combined with tighter working capital management, pushed free cash flow up $55 million year over year and cut inventory to $153 million from $177 million. Average order value rose 5.5%, third-party marketplace sales through Amazon, Walmart, and DoorDash are growing at double-to-triple-digit rates and are already contribution margin positive, and BloomNet grew 1.9% on the back of local delivery partnerships with apps like DoorDash and Instacart.
The rest of the story is bleaker. Total transactions fell 17.6% for the year, and the fourth quarter's decline was broad-based: consumer floral and gifts dropped 13.4% to $182.8 million as the company pulled back on promotional discounting, and gourmet foods and gift baskets fell 15.4% to $85.8 million, a decline made worse by the timing of Easter. Adjusted EBITDA for the year collapsed to $2.9 million from $29.2 million, and adjusted gross margin slipped 110 basis points to 38%. Even the fourth quarter's 34.7% gross margin leaned on a one-time $7 million tariff refund.

Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ:WMT) is expanding its restaurant-delivery business through a partnership with Papa John's, allowing customers in select U.S. markets to order pizzas, sides, and desserts through Walmart's app and website. The service is expected to launch this fall before expanding to thousands of participating Papa John's locations nationwide. Customers will be able to order restaurant food either separately or alongside Walmart groceries and household products, with Walmart's delivery network handling fulfillment.
The move builds on Walmart's broader push into fast delivery. The company recently reported that U.S. e-commerce sales increased 24% in its latest quarter, while fast-delivery services for groceries and general merchandise grew 48%. Walmart also said 30-minute-or-less delivery was available in 38 U.S. markets, highlighting the infrastructure it can potentially leverage for restaurant orders.
The Papa John's partnership could strengthen Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ:WMT)'s position as a broader consumer-delivery platform rather than simply a retailer. Adding restaurant meals gives shoppers another reason to open Walmart's app, while the ability to combine a pizza order with groceries and household products creates an opportunity to increase basket sizes and order frequency. This is particularly attractive because Walmart already has a large store network that increasingly functions as a last-mile fulfillment system; roughly 80% of its e-commerce orders are fulfilled from stores.
The deal could also improve the economics of Walmart's existing delivery infrastructure. Instead of building a completely separate restaurant-delivery network, Walmart can utilize its established fulfillment capabilities and Spark driver network to serve incremental demand. The Papa John's relationship also expands Walmart's restaurant offering beyond earlier partnerships, helping the company build a more comprehensive alternative to dedicated delivery platforms such as DoorDash and Uber Eats.
More importantly, restaurant delivery could become another engagement tool for Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ:WMT)'s increasingly digital customer base. With e-commerce approaching a quarter of Walmart's overall sales and growing substantially faster than traditional store sales, initiatives that increase digital traffic could support Walmart's broader ecosystem of e-commerce, memberships and advertising.

Sands Capital, an investment management company, released its "Sands Capital Select Growth Fund" Q2 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. Select Growth Fund targets U.S. businesses driving significant structural change through disruptive innovation. The fund returned 23.2% in the quarter, outperforming the Russell 1000 Growth Index's 16.7% gain. U.S. large-cap growth equities rebounded sharply, driven by improving corporate fundamentals and renewed investor confidence in AI, despite geopolitical uncertainties. However, the market's gains were narrow, concentrated among AI beneficiaries. The portfolio's success stemmed from strength in AI infrastructure holdings, especially memory and storage, supported by better pricing and tightening supply. As AI development advances, continuous demand for compute capacity is expected, prompting investments in memory, CPUs, AI chips, and semiconductor manufacturing to address emerging bottlenecks essential for scaling AI. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Sands Capital Select Growth Fund highlighted DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH). DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) is a US-based leading online food ordering and delivery platform. On September 2, 2026, DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) closed at $226.24 per share. DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) returned 8.87% over the past month, while its shares lost 9.06% over the past 52 weeks. DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) has a market capitalization of $98.04 billion.
Sands Capital Select Growth Fund stated the following regarding DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"The sales of DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) and Nu Holdings reflected the high bar for inclusion in a concentrated portfolio of roughly 30 businesses. We continue to view both companies as high-quality businesses and will monitor them closely but believe the portfolio would be better served by reallocating capital toward AI infrastructure beneficiaries and other idiosyncratic growth opportunities."
DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) is on our list of the 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. As per our database, 107 hedge fund portfolios held DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) at the end of the second quarter which was 117 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the potential of DoorDash, Inc. On August 5, LiveRamp (NYSE:RAMP) reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 results for the period ended June 30, and the numbers looked less like a company coasting toward a sale than one hitting its stride. Revenue rose 10% to $214 million, but the more striking move was further down the income statement, where operating income more than doubled. LiveRamp skipped its usual earnings call this quarter, a direct result of its pending acquisition by Publicis Groupe, but that silence has not slowed the underlying business.
GAAP operating income jumped to $20 million from $7 million a year earlier, pushing operating margin up six points to 9%. Non-GAAP operating income rose 41% to $50 million, with margin expanding five points to 24%, meaning more of every new revenue dollar is dropping to profit rather than being spent to chase it. Diluted earnings per share more than doubled on a GAAP basis to $0.28 from $0.12, while operating cash flow flipped from a $16 million outflow a year ago to $17 million generated this quarter.
LiveRamp is also positioning itself inside the AI advertising buildout rather than at its edges. The company launched LiveRamp Agent Builders, a program pulling outside AI agents into its network for planning and measurement work, and added integrations tied to OpenAI's advertising tools, Databricks' new Agentic Customer Data Platform, and Adobe's commerce content pipeline, alongside a measurement partnership with DoorDash. None of that shows up in a revenue line yet, but customer behavior already reflects some payoff. LiveRamp ended the quarter with 132 customers paying more than $1 million a year, up from 127, and subscription net retention held at 103%. Annualized recurring revenue grew 7% to $539 million, and Data Marketplace revenue climbed 13% to $40 million.
None of that operational improvement changes the number shareholders actually care about: $38.50 a share, the all-cash price Publicis Groupe agreed to pay when the deal was announced on May 17, 2026. However much operating income grows from here, the merger agreement fixes what LiveRamp holders collect if the transaction closes, so this quarter's beat does not translate into upside for anyone holding the stock for the buyout. LiveRamp also confirmed it will not hold a conference call or issue guidance while the deal is pending, which limits how much investors can independently verify beyond what is in this release.
The transaction still has to clear a shareholder vote scheduled for August 17, and closing remains subject to customary conditions even though management called it on track for before the end of calendar 2026. That leaves a few weeks of real, if narrow, uncertainty. The growth numbers are also decelerating slightly at the edges: total revenue grew 10% this quarter versus 11% in the prior year period, and subscription revenue growth slowed to 8% from 10%. Marketplace and Other revenue, the more variable, usage-driven part of the business, is doing more of the work

Uber is laying off about 3,300 employees, or about 10% of its workforce.
It is the deepest cut the ride-hailing giant that revolutionized on-demand taxis has made since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi announced the layoffs in a letter to employees Wednesday. The cut comes as Uber faces increasing competition from the growing robotaxi industry and other delivery services such as Instacart and DoorDash.

More than half a decade after the pandemic fundamentally changed how consumers interact with restaurants, delivery has moved well beyond the "turn it on" phase for full-service operators. The focus now is less on adding a sales channel than on optimizing one that touches the kitchen, labor model, guest relationship, and broader tech stack.
"We look at it a little differently nowadays," says Jason Saposnik, VP of information technology for FSC Franchise Co., the parent company of Beef 'O' Brady's, The Brass Tap, and Newk's Eatery. "Early on, the focus was more about just growing delivery sales. Now, we're a lot more focused on whether those sales are profitable, how the restaurants can handle that increased volume, and whether customers are actually getting the same great experience."
The first major improvement in delivery operations was straightforward: getting orders into the restaurant without forcing employees to act as the integration layer.
Saposnik recalls an earlier "tablet ******* " environment in which teams monitored separate devices for DoorDash, Uber Eats, and other channels, then manually entered orders into the POS. "That created all sorts of issues for missed orders and mistakes and delays," he says. "Now, everything just flows into the POS and into the kitchen correctly."

One of the most closely watched investment themes in recent years has been the accelerating focus on artificial intelligence (AI), and social media giant Meta Platforms (META) is certainly leaning heavily into the trend. The company is reportedly preparing to take its AI ambitions a major step further, with plans to launch a consumer-facing AI agent in the coming weeks and roll out a new AI model as early as October, according to The Information, citing internal documents. The consumer AI agent, internally known as "Hatch," is built on Meta's OpenClaw AI agent and could debut as soon as late August or early September.
Unlike a conventional chatbot, Hatch is designed to interact directly with external websites and services, potentially allowing users to accomplish tasks across platforms such as DoorDash (DASH), Etsy (ETSY), Reddit (RDDT), Yelp (YELP), and Microsoft (MSFT) Outlook. And, Meta is exploring ways to bring third-party AI agents into WhatsApp. The company is reportedly preparing a feature that would allow users to connect with external AI agents, with limited testing potentially beginning as soon as this week. The potential business opportunity is also attracting attention.

Once the line of Tennessee football fans had cleared out, the food arrived for employees at Window World. A DoorDash driver juggled a brown Firehouse Subs bag in one hand and four soft drinks in the other as she pushed open the glass doors.
She took a step inside, turned to her left and did a double take. Sitting in front of her was linebacker Arion Carter, there for a meet and greet to sign autographs for fans.
There was one football left in the back for Carter to sign, which she excitedly accepted. She then asked to take a picture with Carter. Her family wouldn't believe her without photo evidence.
"My brothers are going to be so mad at me!" she joked.
It was Carter's first public event since he was suspended two games by the NCAA because he returned to college after his agent had paid for a flight to an NFL pre-draft training facility. He is arguably Tennessee's best defensive player and will sit out the opener against Furman on Sept. 5 at Neyland Stadium and the road game at Georgia Tech on Sept. 12.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing fresh criticism after taking credit for a reported $104 million increase in delivery worker tips that critics say was made possible by legislation enacted before he took office and will likely only exacerbate cost of living issues in the city.
The criticism comes after Mamdani declared at a press conference Wednesday and in a social media post, "We've put $104 million back in delivery workers' pockets," citing changes to Uber Eats' and DoorDash's apps that made tipping more prominent.
"This is only the beginning," Mamdani wrote.
Those changes stem from a city law approved by the New York City Council before Mamdani became mayor. Former Mayor Eric Adams neither signed nor vetoed the measure, allowing it to become law after 30 days. The rules took effect in January under the Mamdani administration, which implemented and enforced the requirements.

DoorDash on Tuesday announced a deeper dive into the retail world by allowing independent merchants on Shopify that also have a physical store to easily add their product catalog to the DoorDash marketplace, further highlighting how it is becoming a competitor to Amazon, Walmart, Uber Eats, Roadie and legion of independent couriers in the on-demand e-commerce delivery **** e.
The delivery platform has been expanding for several years beyond its origin model of delivering restaurant meals into grocery and retail delivery. Last month, DoorDash (NASDAQ: DASH) announced a partnership with Autoparts.com for its gig drivers to deliver parts orders for the online retailer in under an hour.
The Shopify (NASDAQ: SHOP) integration targets small-and-medium sized local businesses as the next growth category. Retailers can add their products to the DoorDash marketplace by enabling a new sales channel within the Shopify app store, with no separate onboarding process, manual catalog uploads or disruption to existing operations, DoorDash said in a news release.
""Merchants want to sell wherever their customers are, and increasingly that means meeting them with speed and convenience," said Atlee Clark, vice president of partnerships at Shopify. "This integration puts local retailers in front of millions of DoorDash shoppers and turns same-day demand into sales, all managed inside Shopify."
DoorDash said products and inventory are automatically aligned in the system so when a customer orders what's on DoorDash always matches what's on the shelf, without the retailer having to manually manage stock levels.

If retail has a big three comprised of Walmart, Amazon, and Target, Target serves as the clear bronze medalist on that list. The retailer lacks the billions Walmart has been able to spend to breach the digital advantage Amazon had.
The retailer, for example, could not build out its own same-day delivery system to match its key rivals. Instead, Target built out similar delivery capabilities without spending billions.
In 2017, the retailer paid $550 million to acquire Shipt, a company that deploys contractors to personally shop and deliver food from Target stores on the same day. Shipt also delivers from CVS, OfficeMax, Sephora, and more.
Target built on that purchase and partnered with Uber Eats, DoorDash, and others, giving it a frugal way to match what Walmart and Amazon offered.
On the digital side of the business, Target certainly can't match Walmart and Amazon when it comes to spending, but it has taken two key steps to differentiate its offerings. First, the retailer built out its network of owned-and-operated brands, and now, the chain has added a number of well-known brands to its invitation-only Target Plus online platform.

The Strategy fell 7.72% (net) in the quarter compared to -6.35% for the Russell Midcap Growth Index. DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) has declined more than 21% year-to-date, mainly due to investors worrying that the rising inflation and lower disposable income can impact consumer spending and increase delivery margins to impact DoorDash's business.
However, the Street remains positive on a recovery as the ***** ysts' 12-month average price target suggests more than 44% upside from the current level. DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) is one of the Stocks Expected to Bounce Back According to ***** ysts.
On June 15, Bank of America Securities reiterated a Buy rating on the stock with a price target of $272. Earlier on June 8, BofA had released a research note stating that they expect DoorDash to outperform as the current AI cycle progresses. The firm noted that investor money is flowing toward semiconductors and hardware to capture AI infrastructure buildout gains. This has weighed on internet stocks like DASH, even among companies that are beating expectations.
BofA believes that these dynamics will shift once the hardware capacity catches up with the demand. Once that point is reached, then internet stocks such as DoorDash will benefit as applications will be built on the AI infrastructure that is being deployed currently.

DoorDash Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) is one of the best NASDAQ stocks with high upside potential. On June 11, DoorDash launched "Ask DoorDash," a new AI-powered chatbot that allows users to place food and grocery orders and make reservations using photos and text prompts. Currently debuting in select markets, the feature is part of a broader industry push where gig economy companies are racing to integrate agentic AI tools to enhance the user experience and remain competitive against rivals like Uber and Instacart.
This rollout is a key element of DoorDash's extensive investment cycle, which involves a major technical overhaul of its platform to integrate recent high-profile acquisitions, including SevenRooms and Deliveroo. Finance chief Ravi Inukonda confirmed that the company is currently focused on executing this unified tech stack transition, which represents a significant portion of its 2026 spending.

Brooklyn Beckham's new FIFA World Cup ad has branded him a "joker" amid ongoing family feud reports. Brooklyn has reportedly cut ties with his parents, Victoria Beckham and David Beckham. In January 2026, he made bombshell claims, saying that his family tried to sabotage his relationship with his partner, Nicola Peltz. He also mentioned that he does not want to reconcile with his family. Now, this latest ad has reportedly reopened old wounds for Victoria and David, bringing unresolved tensions back into focus.
Brooklyn Beckham reportedly dissed his family in a new World Cup ad. The eldest child of David Beckham and Victoria Beckham has reportedly cut all ties with his family. He made shocking claims about his parents, saying that they tried to create a rift between him and his partner, Nicola Peltz.
He also said that he does not wish for reconciliation with his family. The post reportedly upset David and Victoria a lot. And now, with the latest DoorDash ad, family feud speculation has intensified. In the video, the model can be seen sitting on a sofa holding tickets for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Looking at the camera, he says, "You're probably wondering why I'm watching the FIFA World Cup 2026 from home." Smiling, he adds, "It's a long story," before putting the tickets on the table.
The camera then shows the tickets lying on the table along with a camera and a watch, with the ad ending with: "It's complicated. More soon." People soon began speculating that it was a dig at the feud with his parents. As the comments started pouring in, a comment from the DoorDash account further fueled the reaction.
It read, "We have a guess on why you're watching from home." Brooklyn faced backlash as many viewers questioned why he was cashing in on the situation when all he wanted was peace and privacy. A user on X reposted the video on their account, calling him a "joker." Many criticized him for making money through advertising around his family fallout.

DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) is one of the best e-commerce stocks to buy as global sales hit records. The company is increasingly positioning itself as a local commerce platform rather than just a restaurant delivery app. On June 4, DoorDash said DoorDash Ads was becoming a global commerce media platform, with new ad formats, offsite reach, campaign automation, and measurement tools. The company said its Spotlight homepage ad format delivers twice the click-through rate of banners, while media dollars through Symbiosys, a DoorDash company, have nearly doubled since the 2025 acquisition.

The operating data also supports the broader e-commerce story. In the first quarter of 2026, DoorDash's total orders rose 27% year-over-year to 933 million, marketplace gross order value (GOV) increased 37% to $31.6 billion, revenue climbed 33% to $4.0 billion, and adjusted EBITDA rose 28% to $754 million. DoorDash also said its U.S. grocery and retail categories continued to post strong year-over-year marketplace GOV growth, helped by broader selection in areas such as apparel and auto parts. That expansion showed up commercially as well: on May 13, Urban Outfitters launched a nationwide DoorDash partnership, letting customers shop fashion, accessories, beauty, gifting, and lifestyle products directly through the app.
DoorDash, Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) operates an on-demand delivery platform that connects customers with local restaurants, grocery stores, and retailers.

America's labor market continues to cool, and the gig economy is quietly absorbing some of the employment strain being felt across the country.
A new Goldman Sachs ***** ysis found that platform-based gig work opportunities — which include major tech players like Uber (UBER), DoorDash (DASH), and Instacart (CART) — are holding up as traditional payroll growth cools.
About 20% of people who lost pay, lost a job, or had hours cut turned to gig platforms to make up the difference, the ***** ysis said. More signs of a shrinking labor market are expected in this week's delayed September payrolls
