Blue Jays 5 A's 6
I wanted to ***** le this 'Bad Pitching, Defense and Hitting Leads to a Loss' but that's too many words.
A bad moment on defense, in the first inning, turned out to be very costly. Dylan Cease was having a rough time in the first. A walk to Henry Bolte, who followed that with a steal. Then a ground rule double to score the first run of the game. A single gave the A's runners on the corners, with two out. Carlos Cortes went to steal second, Alejandro Kirk threw to second, and the runner on third came home. Ernie Clement threw back home in plenty of time to get the runner, but the runner stopped and turned around. Kirk chased him, and the runner seemed to be giving up, but Kirk threw to Kazuma Okamoto, and it wasn't a good throw, went off Okamoto's glove and the runner scored. 2-0 after half an inning. Just a bad play. Just chasing him back to third would have been fine.
Kirk homered in the bottom of the inning, making up for the mistake.
But the A's got two more in the third. Bolte again walked and stole season (maybe next year, Cease could come up with a way to hold runners?). After a popup, Bolte stole third. Next batter, Zack Gelof hit a ground ball to third, Okamoto came home but the throw was too late. Then Gelof steal second and third and a single scored him. 4-1 A's.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A dominant fastball has made Jacob Misiorowski one of the most exciting pitchers in baseball over the past two seasons, but it was an effective slider that helped him get out of a bases-loaded jam by striking out Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman in the Milwaukee Brewers' 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.
"He's understanding how his breaking stuff moves and what he can do with it on any particular day," Brewers manager Pat Murphy said.
Misiorowski allowed one run on five hits in six innings, needing an expanded **** nal of pitches to get out of the fifth unscathed after the bottom of the Dodgers' order had three consecutive singles to bring up Ohtani with one out. The two superstars had already faced off twice, with Misiorowski throwing six straight fastballs over 102 mph to retire him on a popup leading off the game.
Misiorowski needed three pitches to fan Ohtani, and only one was a fastball. Instead, catcher William Contreras called for a curveball and slider to bookend that 102.4 mph heater.
"William took control and saw something, and we readjusted," said Misiorowski, who improved to 12-5 while lowering his ERA to 1.75 with his 13th start this season allowing one or zero runs.

CHICAGO (AP) — Clay Holmes and three Cubs relievers combined on a three-hitter, and Seiya Suzuki hit a three-run homer Friday to send Chicago to a 3-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Making his second start and first at Wrigley Field since being acquired from the New York Mets at the trade deadline, Holmes (5-5) retired his first 16 batters before José Fermin singled in the sixth.
Holmes, who missed three months with a broken right fibula before the trade, struck out three, walked one and allowed one hit in 6 2/3 innings, exiting to a standing ovation. Ryan Rolison, Ryan Zeferjahn and Jacob Webb followed, with Webb pitching the ninth for his ninth save.
For the first five innings, Matthew Liberatore (5-10) was just as good as Holmes. He set down his first 13 batters before Nico ***** ner singled in the fifth.
Liberatore ran into trouble in the sixth, allowing the first two batters to reach before retiring Pete Crow-Armstrong on a foul popup and yielding to George Soriano.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Brice Turang had three hits and two RBIs as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Francisco Giants 8-2 on Tuesday night behind Logan Henderson.
Brewers rookie Luis Lara knocked in three runs and Jackson Chourio added two hits and two RBIs to help the NL Central leaders end a four-game road skid. Henderson had seven strikeouts and allowed two hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings to win his first career start against San Francisco.
Bryce Eldridge hit his 11th home run for the Giants, a two-run shot that made it 8-2 in the eighth.
One of San Francisco's seven hits came when Heliot Ramos' high popup in the first fell between a pair of Milwaukee infielders.
Henderson (5-1) was sharp all night. The 24-year-old right-hander walked two and didn't allow a run for the second time this season in a start of five innings or longer.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Konnor Griffin put on quite a show for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
A single, a stolen base, two spectacular plays in the field — and finally, a bases-loaded hit that put his team ahead to stay.
“He’s a complete player," manager Don Kelly said. "He’s going to help us win for a long time.”
Pittsburgh's 11-5 victory over the Washington Nationals on Sunday may have looked lopsided at the end, but it was tight much of the way — and Griffin repeatedly made big contributions. The 20-year-old shortstop, who received a nine-year, $140 million contract in April, showed the many ways he can impact a game.
Griffin's defensive day stood out in particular. There was a diving stop on a grounder in the third, but Curtis Mead beat it out for a single. In the fourth, Keibert Ruiz hit a popup to shallow left field, and Griffin had to deal with the sun while making a diving, backhanded catch.

NEW YORK — New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. left the game against the Detroit Tigers following a violent collision with right fielder Jasson Domínguez and was placed in concussion protocol.
With the Yankees down 7-0 in the fourth inning, Hao-Yu Lee hit a high popup to shallow right field. Chisholm ran back and attempted to make the catch but Domínguez charged in and caught the ball as his glove struck Chisholm in the face.
"I'm not sure exactly what happened," manager Aaron Boone said after a 7-3 loss sent the Yankees to their fifth straight defeat. "Obviously we're playing the infield in, so it's a little bit that no-man's land. I think JD called it late. I don't know if he didn't hear."
Chisholm immediately fell down on the grass and was on his back for several minutes as Boone and athletic trainer Tim Lentych checked on him. After a few minutes, Chisholm stood up and slowly walked off the field under his own power. He was replaced at second base by Oswaldo Cabrera .
"It was really unfortunate," Domínguez said. "They were playing infield in. In my mind, I've got to go catch the ball. I called it, but obviously I didn't call it loud enough. But really unfortunate what happened."

PISCATAWAY – Brady Ross was greeted with yells of “Let’s go, Brady,” the moment he stepped on the mound, and the senior reliever responded by shutting the door yet again.
Ridgewood held on to capture the Group 4 state baseball championship, 7-6, over Kingsway on June 14 after Ross threw four scoreless innings of relief at steamy Bainton Field at Rutgers.
Ross secured the ******* le in the bottom of the seventh inning after inducing a two-out, bases-loaded infield popup in a game during which the Maroons led 7-0 entering the bottom of the second.
“I like being the guy who can help save the team in those situations,” Ross said.
“Brady again, for the third game in a row, came in with ice water in his veins, and kept it where it is, and great job by him,” Maroons coach Kurt Hommen said.
