Long before the first serve in the US Open Women's Final on Saturday, there were different players on the iconic courts.
Children and adults with disabilities were in the spotlight at Flushing Meadows. They learned the basics of tennis and put them on display at the Court of Dreams clinic.
Fifteen-year-old Thaddeus Henry had been a participant at the US Open through the non-profit ACEing Autism for the past eight years.
"It's just a pleasure to see how far he's come," said his mother, Carla Rogers-Henry.

Florida basketball senior guard Denzel Aberdeen is taking his case to return to the basketball court to the judicial courts.
Aberdeen has filed a temporary injunction for a fifth season of eligibility to play for the Florida Gators, according to a report from the Field of 68.
"Denzel Aberdeen, a senior at Florida, should be allowed to compete as a student-athlete under the NCAA's 5-in-5 rule," Aberdeen's attorney, Jesse Panuccio, said in a statement provided to the Field of 68. "But the NCAA has announced an unwritten exception to its rule that strips Class of 2022 students from this policy, even though they competed for years against fifth-, sixth-, and sometimes seventh-year seniors who received Covid-era eligibility waivers. The NCAA's decision violates its contractual commitment to fairness to all student-athletes, and we have sued to vindicate Aberdeen's rights and get him back on the court as he finishes his degree at UF."
As a member of the Class of 2022, Aberdeen wasn't grandfathered into the NCAA's new 5-for-5 rule, which allows for college athletes to play for five seasons within five years of eligibility.
On July 31, a Colorado court ruling by U.S. District Court judge Charlotte Sweeney (Tyson, Wisne v NCAA) granted an extra year of eligibility to Aberdeen and every athlete in the 2022 class without requiring an NCAA waiver. But on August 22, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals granted a stay in the Wisne ruling, which now places the onus back on athletes to fight for their NCAA eligibility in state courts.

Chicago Sky owner Michael Alter has shared a statement after former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom launched a lawsuit against the WNBA franchise.
Kanter attended the August 23 game between the Sky and the Indiana Fever, getting ejected in the third quarter after a courtside interaction with Natasha Cloud.
Kanter has sued the Sky over violating his First Amendment rights, claiming he was ejected for the T-shirt he wore with the literal definition of a woman to attack trans identity.
Team owner Alter issued a statement immediately after Kanter's lawsuit became a reality, calling the suit 'meritless and frivolous' because he was ejected after getting into it with Cloud, not for the questionable T-shirt he wore.
"We received word that the entity owning the Chicago Sky is being sued by Mr. Enes Kanter Freedom for allegedly violating his First Amendment rights. This lawsuit is meritless and frivolous. Freedom's claim that he was removed from Wintrust Arena due to his speech is false."

For players who spend most of the year in airports, hotels and tournament venues often thousands of miles from home, pets have become common travelling companions, offering comfort and stability in a sport where loneliness is a major challenge.
"Animals are amazing... that's why a lot of the girls are travelling with more pets now, because of how tough the life is on the road," world number three Jessica Pegula told reporters at the U.S. Open this week.
"To have something that grounds you, as simple as having a dog or any type of animal... you don't experience that type of love from anybody else. They love you unconditionally and that can just really help emotionally."

The Justice Department has spent years attempting to break up Google's gargantuan advertising business across two separate antitrust lawsuits: one filed in 2020 focused on Google's dominance in search, and a second filed in 2023 that specifically targeted Google's ad-technology business. Both cases argued that the search giant's grip on the digital ad economy represents an illegal monopoly.
Courts have largely sided with the government in both cases. In 2024, a court determined that Google's search business, including its exceedingly lucrative search-ad operation, was an illegal monopoly, claiming that the tech giant had "exercised its monopoly power" to dominate the search industry and search ads. Last April, a second court case — this one focused specifically on Google's ad-tech business — also came to the same conclusion.
Following the 2024 ruling, Justice Department officials suggested a variety of ways Google's search business could be broken up, including divesting its Chrome browser and Android operating system. But in September 2025, the judge overseeing that case, Amit Mehta, rejected those divestiture requests, ruling that Google could keep both Chrome and Android. He did order the company to end exclusive default-placement deals and share certain search data with competitors (remedies that Google is currently appealing).
That same pattern held this week. In a ruling handed down on Wednesday, federal judge Leonie M. Brinkema of the Eastern District of Virginia, who oversaw the ad-tech case, said that Google would be able to keep its advertising business. Instead of selling it, the search giant will instead be required to adjust its business practices to favor competitors, Brinkema said. The New York Times notes that the judge's ruling "did not provide specifics" as to how Google should go about doing that.
Brinkema's full written ruling will remain under seal for 14 days to allow those involved to issue necessary redactions. Her finding that Google had acted illegally in maintaining its ad-tech business dates back to April of last year; this week's decision addressed only the remedy.

For much of this season, the Lumberjacks' singles lineup has carried over from last fall. Liz Peterson occupies the top spot, while Lilly Caron and Bailey Rupp typically play Nos. 2 and 3 singles, save for their occasional doubles appearances. Natalie ****** berg rounds out the group at No. 4 singles, just as she did on Wednesday in the Jacks' 6-1 win over the Cardinals.

Former UFC light heavyweight ****** le contender Anthony Smith has had his next MMA fight announced despite his recent legal troubles.
Smith was arrested on July 27 in his native Nebraska on three felony charges of first-degree domestic ****** ault, terroristic threats, and first-degree false imprisonment. He has since pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released after posting a $500,000 bond.
Gamebred FC has announced that Smith will return to the cage against Jordan Heiderman on October 2.

The notion college sports are for college students who will move on when they complete their degree or turn pro enjoys near-universal support. But right now, that fundamental boundary is being dismantled amid a relentless wave of litigation.
In two cases, the NCAA has been ordered to allow professional basketball players to return to college basketball, despite the fact they intentionally left college to go to the NBA Draft and each played in several NBA games. In another case, a judge required the NCAA to allow an athlete to compete for a fifth school in five years. And in the past two weeks, without so much as a hearing, let alone a trial, two courts permitted NFL players to return immediately to college football. For now, it's hard hats, steel and concrete, but once construction is complete, the site will be the Charlotte Hornets' home off the court.
"This project I could not be more excited about," Dr. Sid Fletcher, Novant Health's senior vice president and president of employer solutions, said. "You're about to see what happens when the vision comes to life."
Channel 9's Miana Massey got a first look of the facility on Friday, where crews are building the ******* es that will become practice courts, training and recovery areas for the Hornets.
Plans call for a 100,000-square-foot practice facility and 35,000-square-feet of team offices.
