Bowles also announced that LT Tristan Wirfs suffered a hamstring injury during the same conditioning run, calling Wirfs "day to day."
It's not clear how serious Vea's injury is, although Bowles didn't appear concerned and the fact that Vea attempted the conditioning run at least suggests he was willing to participate in part of camp activities. The Oregon Ducks men's basketball program has gone through a litany of changes this offseason, with eight incoming transfers replacing eight outgoing transfers. It also had more appeal than the proverbial ice bath that sports folk swear by (literally as well as vocally). It was early (6.50am), and it was cold, but it really was the perfect way to start the day!
Following breakfast back at the hotel, it was on to the staff coach at 8.15am for the comparatively short journey to the training ground.
Upon arrival everyone (medical, **** ysts, strength and conditioning staff), went off in varying directions to organise everything in preparation for the arrival of the players.
Prior to that, the kit department staff had arrived and, following a meeting with the coaching staff, set about laying out the specific areas required for the sessions.
Finally, the players arrived, by which time everything had been meticulously set out for their varying needs, each player having their own way of going about things quietly, or in some cases not so quietly.

Towering over everybody else, Aday Mara's potential is tantalizing. At 7-foot-3, he makes the rest of the NBA look smaller in comparison. It doesn't take long to brainstorm what his size could do for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Especially since he looks like a toddler playing on a Little Tikes indoor hoop.
That said, it's only taken five Summer League games to see Mara is a giant blob of clay. The Thunder will take on another developmental project as they hope he eventually sharpens out his technique on the court. As mystifying as his size is, he'll need to figure out how to finish through contact and better his conditioning.
Of course, none of that should be a shocker. In the predraft process, those were Mara's main concerns. Even with that, he was still viewed as a lottery pick. The Thunder materialized that with the No. 12 pick of the 2026 NBA draft. He helped Michigan bring home a national championship.
Joining the ***** le contender, Mara has full confidence he can reach his NBA ceiling in OKC. The Thunder are one of the better developmental teams in the league. When you're in a small market and a constant winner for nearly two decades, the draft is your lifeblood.

Real Madrid officially opened preparations for the 2026-27 season on Monday, with José Mourinho leading his first preseason training session since returning to the club.
The day began with the usual medical and fitness examinations at the club's medical facilities before the available members of the squad reported to Real Madrid City for their first workout of the summer.
With many first-team players either still involved in the 2026 FIFA World Cup or only recently returning from international duty, Mourinho worked with a limited group consisting of Andriy Lunin, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, Raúl Asencio, Álvaro Carreras, Eduardo Camavinga, Franco Mastantuono, and Gonzalo García. A number of academy players were also called up to supplement the session.
After an introductory team talk from Mourinho, the squad began with gym work before moving onto the training pitch for activation exercises that combined physical conditioning with ball work.

The dog days of summer have rightfully earned that nickname. The combination of conditioning workouts, practices, strength training and sweltering temperatures all endured with months still looming before the start of the men’s college basketball season can quickly turn into a monotonous grind.
Entering his second year in college basketball, Andrija Jelavic is experiencing it for the first time. This time last year, Jelavic was still in his home country of Croatia, finishing up school and finalizing when he could actually enroll and start practicing at the University of Kentucky.
That process wasn’t finalized until the fall. Now at Ohio State after one year with the Wildcats, Jelavic is getting an understanding of what he missed a year ago and how that impacted his season at Kentucky.
“This is my first summer of college basketball,” Jelavic said after a July 9 practice at the Schottenstein Center. “When I was late at Kentucky I didn’t feel like I was missing a lot, but being here for a month already I feel like it helps you a lot to be here. Now I understand that I missed a lot by not being there in the summer at Kentucky.”
It wasn’t until late August that Jelavic was able to start practicing with the Wildcats. When the season got underway, Jelavic was a rotation player for the first two months, briefly fell out of the playing rotation and then was inserted into the starting lineup for the final 20 games of the season.

This offseason, University of Hawaii quarterback Micah Alejado is routinely clocked at 4:45.
With a lights-outs bedtime of 8:30 p.m., Alejado awakens at 4 in the morning, showers, and then arrives at UH at 4:45. Maybe earlier, never later.
"I try to be the first one there," Alehado, 21, said of the 6 a.m. start to conditioning drills. "Start warming up my body and get ready for the workout. I'm getting older. The body takes a little bit longer to get warmed up now."
Entering his third year — and second as QB1 — with the Rainbow Warriors, Alejado has embraced his leadership role.
"I want to set the example," said Alejado, whose summer schedule is built around the Warriors' training.

The Everton players not involved with their national teams returned to Finch Farm to start their preseason fitness conditioning and training on Friday. Jordan Pickford remains with the England side while Idrissa Gueye, Iliman Ndiaye and Nathan Patterson are taking extended breaks following their World Cup efforts.
Attacking midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was the life of the dressing room last season and looks like that hasn’t changed.
Blues will be encouraged to see defensive lynchpin Jarrad Branthwaite back on his feet and training again, and it appears he has switched to the more conventional squad number 4.

After a big, ninth-inning comeback to beat the Nationals last night, we got a sequel on Saturday afternoon. Starter Cam Schlittler didn’t pitch well while managing an extraordinary start, and seven-plus innings of maddening offense gave way to a trio of eighth-inning home runs. The Yankees have a win streak going, taking today’s game 4-2 over the Nationals.
Cam Schlittler is making me think about Roy Halladay a lot. I’ve told this story before here, but Halladay was the standard of baseball excellence in my home growing up, my dad would hand ten year old me a pocket Blue Jay schedule and have me mark off the home games that Doc was most likely to be starting, and those games became the priority options for family trips to Toronto. The day Roy was traded was a small celebration in our house, because he sure as ******* wasn’t getting anything out of the late-2000s Blue Jays. At least the Phillies gave him a real shot.
But the thing that always stuck out to me about Halladay, specifically his time in Toronto where he was the best or second best pitcher in the AL depending on what Johan Santana had done lately, was he didn’t often dominate lineups the way his counterpart in Minnesota would. Halladay ground you down, taking advantage of his formidable conditioning and his manager’s reluctance to go to anyone in the bullpen to throw 130 cutters and sinkers and shatter your bat and watch you jog 75 feet to your right on a basic groundout to second, and he would do that for eight innings every five days.
Indeed even on days where Halladay wasn’t the best pitcher available, he seemed better than anyone at finding some way to make it work. When he was losing, and boy he was losing a lot with those teams, it seemed there was ******* ody on the planet more dead-set at not being the reason why we lose today.

Carvana Co. (NYSE:CVNA) is one of the top stocks to buy according to Whale Rock Capital Management. On June 24, Carvana Co. (NYSE:CVNA) announced plans to bring Inspection and Reconditioning Center (IRC) capabilities to its existing ADESA Sarasota wholesale auction site in Bradenton, Florida.
The move adds extra vehicle reconditioning capacity to Carvana's national network, which means it can inspect more used cars, repair, and prepare them for sale. Carvana stated that because of the new IRC, customers along the Florida Gulf Coast could receive their vehicles as soon as the same day once the new inventory pool is running.
Brian Boyd, Senior Vice President of Inventory at Carvana, stated that he expects the IRC integration to create around 100 new jobs in inspection, reconditioning, and vehicle fulfillment. These positions do not require a college degree and come with full benefits, and that hiring for the roles has already started, Boyd said. Boyd added that the expansion strengthens the company's national network and its customer offering.

It sits on roughly 60 acres with over 3,000 parking ***** es, which gives Carvana enough room to run both the IRC and the existing wholesale auction side without disruption. The not-so-well-kept secret is out. Three-time NBA All-Star forward/center Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings made a “transformative investment” to both the men’s and women’s basketball programs. While the exact amount isn’t disclosed, it is the largest ever made by a former player.

He had a one-on-one moment with current redshirt senior forward Braden Huff, as the two suffered similar knee injuries this past season. Even the great Kevin Pangos, who was a senior point guard with a freshman Sabonis during the 2014-15 campaign, showed up.
Sabonis spoke to the intimate crowd that included his wife, Shashana Rosen, and three children, Tiger, Eleven Rose, and Tauras Levi. Coach Mark Few said a few words about the Lithuanian’s impact on the city of Spokane, Washington, and the university as well.
With Sabonis taking part in a golf clinic put on by Bank of America for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Spokane yesterday, that confirmed that the Gonzaga Bulldogs legend was the mysterious donor.

Here are some important dates to put on the calendar for 2026:

When college athletes suffer fatalities due to activities conducted during practice—and often pre-existing conditions—coaches are almost never criminally charged. But thanks to a new lawsuit brought by Pennsylvania’s attorney general, that could change.
On Monday, Pennsylvania AG Dave Sunday charged former Bucknell football strength and conditioning coach Mark Kulbis following the death of Bucknell football player CJ ******* ey Jr. in 2024 following a summer workout where he collapsed. Kulbis, who maintains his innocence, faces felony aggravated hazing, as well as misdemeanor counts of involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and hazing.
The fact that the charges are criminal makes the case rare, multiple industry experts and attorneys tell Front Office Sports. Regardless of its outcome, the case could have wide-ranging effects on the college coaching landscape, forcing more scrutiny of practice activities and coaching conduct.
“We’re seeing the tide shift in terms of general public awareness about hazing,” Elizabeth Allan, principal of StopHazing and director of the Hazing Prevention Research Lab at the University of Maine, told FOS. “I feel this is potentially an indication of some larger shifts in the culture.”
On July 10, 2024, ******* ey, along with other Bucknell freshmen football players, suited up for their first practice led by Kublis, who had previously spent time on the coaching staffs at Dartmouth, Ohio State, and Austin Peay.

The parents of a Bucknell University football player who died after collapsing during the first day of training camp in 2024 said Tuesday they appreciated a decision by the Pennsylvania attorney general to bring criminal charges against the strength and conditioning coach who oversaw the session.
Calvin “CJ” ****** ey Jr. was a freshman in July 2024 when Mark Kulbis told him and other football players to do 100 “up-downs,” also known as “burpees,” along with full-body plank drills, according to the attorney general’s office. ****** ey had sickle-cell trait, a medical condition that can increase the risk of serious injury or death following extreme exertion.
“We're at the point where we're just glad that someone is being held responsible for our son's death,” Calvin ****** ey Sr., of Land O’ Lakes, Florida, told The ****** ociated Press in a phone interview. “We just want to see the process through, and we're going to leave it to the attorney general to continue following the evidence.”
Prosecutors announced Monday that Kulbis had been charged with felony aggravated hazing and misdemeanor counts of involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and hazing.
“While the death of Calvin ****** ey is tragic, Mark Kulbis did not contribute to it and is not responsible for it,” his attorney, Barbara Zemlock, said in a written statement. “The strength and conditioning program that was implemented was appropriate and in accordance with the training that Mr. Kulbis received, and with applicable standards."

As France braces for another heatwave, it's barely recovered from the last one. Meteorologists expect scorching temperatures to return this week, and with them, the same question that was asked repeatedly in June: why won't France just turn on the air conditioning?
Some people are already taking things into their own hands. Dozens of people lined up outside several Lidl stores across the Paris region on Thursday, all hoping to get their hands on an air conditioning unit. In Aubervilliers, a Paris suburb, the doors gave way under the pressure of the crowd, and fights broke out among shoppers. "I saw people get trampled," one shopper told Le Parisien newspaper. "I was in shock, I got shoved around in every direction, and unfortunately I didn't leave with an AC unit," another said.
Only around 24% of French households have air conditioning according to France's energy transition agency – up from 18% just two years ago, but still far below the roughly 50% seen in neighboring Italy.
Alexia, a 26-year-old living on the outskirts of Paris, says she caved when she found out another heatwave was on the way. "All the air conditioners I had seen to potentially buy were out of stock. So I rushed to get another one before there was absolutely none left."
Meanwhile, just 7% of French schools are equipped with AC, and thousands closed their doors last week as temperatures in the classroom became unbearable. With more than 2,000 excess deaths recorded over six days at the peak of the June heat, according to health authorities, France's cultural resistance to AC has started to soften.
