For the second straight week, Aday Mara was in-person at Oklahoma's college football game. But for reasons that the football-crazy fanbase wants to know. The 7-foot-3 center made the trip to Michigan to cheer for his Wolverines and celebrate his collegiate year there.
Mara attended No. 11 Oklahoma's shocking 17-10 loss to Michigan on Saturday. At halftime, the Wolverines' men's basketball team was honored. They had a dominant 37-3 record and brought home the 2026 national championship. Alongside Yaxel Lendeborg and Morez Johnson Jr., Mara was part of a monstrous three-headed frontcourt.
Mara's decision to transfer to Michigan was life-altering. He became a household name and eventually the No. 12 pick of the 2026 NBA draft. He averaged 12.1 points on 66.8% shooting, 6.8 rebounds, 2.4 ***** ists and 2.6 blocks in his sole collegiate season there.

However, during his Thursday press conference, Fisch delivered some good news about the injury-ravaged position, as third-year running back Jordan Washington continues to recover from a neck injury that he suffered during spring practice, stating that there's a chance the former four-star recruit returns this season.
"I am more optimistic (that Washington can play in 2026) based upon how his rehab has gone," Fisch said on Thursday.
"He's gotten a lot stronger; he's stronger than he was before he got hurt, with all of his weight room metrics...His speed is the same; the thing that we have to look at is cleared for contact. That decision gets made by the surgeon who took care of him, and then we have to look at conditioning. But in terms of how things are trending, he's doing exceptionally well, but we don't know anything until he gets scanned, and the scans—we're not ready for that yet."
Fisch added that a potential return could happen before the end of the season, but at the same time, tried to temper expectations around what that may look like, adding that he has several benchmarks to hit before he can even get scanned in an attempt to return.

On August 10, Chemours (NYSE:CC) launched two new refrigerants, Opteon ZE and Opteon 515B, built specifically for stationary chillers that cool data centers, commercial buildings, and other facilities that cannot afford downtime. The announcement lands as data center operators everywhere are scrambling to keep pace with the heat that AI workloads generate, and Chemours is betting its chemistry can be part of the answer.
Chemours designed these products around a specific problem: AI infrastructure is pushing heat loads and uptime requirements past what older cooling systems were built for. Joseph Martinko, President of Thermal & Specialized Solutions at Chemours, said the company is expanding the choices available to chiller manufacturers and operators as they build and maintain the systems powering data centers and other mission-critical environments. That framing matters because it puts Chemours squarely inside the AI infrastructure buildout rather than on its periphery, and the company describes this as part of a broader push into higher-value, high-growth cooling applications.
The two products are designed to work together rather than compete for the same customer. Opteon ZE, the R-1234ze(E) formulation, is an HFO-based refrigerant with a GWP of approximately 1 and zero ozone depletion potential, aimed at air- and water-cooled chillers, commercial air conditioning, heat pumps, and data center cooling specifically. It also offers high energy efficiency and works with commonly used POE lubricants, which matters for equipment makers who do not want to redesign their systems from scratch.
Opteon 515B is a blend of roughly 91.1% R-1234ze(E) and 8.9% R-227ea, with a GWP near 293, pitched at operators running conventional chillers who want an easier path away from higher-GWP refrigerants without a full system overhaul. Having both a near-zero-GWP option and a lower-friction transitional option lets Chemours sell into new builds and legacy fleets at the same time.
The launch is not without caveats. Opteon ZE carries an ASHRAE A2L classification, meaning it is mildly flammable, while Opteon 515B carries the non-flammable A1 rating. That difference alone could steer certain customers toward one product over the other depending on local codes and installation requirements.

Saudi Arabia's power stations, desalination plants, factories and farms consume more than 1 million barrels per day of liquid fuel that the kingdom aims to displace by 2030. Natural gas and renewables will provide most of the replacement energy. Nuclear power could reduce domestic oil consumption further after 2030 as electricity demand continues to grow.
On July 22, the United States and Saudi Arabia signed a 30-year civil nuclear cooperation agreement, clearing the way for U.S. companies to potentially supply the kingdom with reactors, nuclear materials and technical services. Similar agreements with Turkey and the UAE entered into force in June 2008 and December 2009, respectively.
The commercial opportunity is in Saudi Arabia's search for additional generating capacity. The IEA estimates that the kingdom's electricity demand grew by 3.8% in 2025 and forecasts average annual growth of 3.1% through 2030.

While just about everyone considers Luka Doncic to be one of the NBA's best players, there are plenty who doubt that he can and will win a championship. The pundits point to his extremely high-usage style of play, defensive shortcomings and supposed lack of fitness and conditioning as reasons why he won't lead his team to the promised land.
Former NBA big man Channing Frye is one of those doubters. During an episode on his "Channing's Mailbag" YouTube show, he said that Doncic will not win a ring with that current high-usage style of play, although he did say that he thinks Doncic will eventually win it all.
"I think Luka will win a championship. I do not think that he will win with that style of play and high usage rate. He needs a team around him, sure, but he plays physical and is usually beat up by the time. Did he miss his one chance? No. I just think something's going to come around where Luka got to come to grips with like, that's not what is going to win.
"Luka's greatness is not better than OKC or San Antonio or New York or Philly, no matter how great Luka is individually. So you got to build an NBA team around him where he trusts and can get off the rock a little bit more."
Doncic has the highest career usage rate in NBA history at 35.8, and he has led the league in that category in four of his eight seasons. Now, we aren't saying that Tech's offensive or defensive linemen will run the 40 in 4.4 seconds or less. They don't need to. There's something in the air when August comes around. Is it hot humid weather? Maybe it's the sounds of the insects, or birds, or the angle of the sun? But it's something. The memories come flooding back. Two-a-days, sweating, those god-awful morning conditioning runs. I thought I had gone out for track! 8-220's, 4-440's, 2-880's and a mile run under time or you repeat them. No, I'm not exaggerating. Then lunch with the team, a break, then afternoon practice. Sound like a Division I program? No, it was a small Single A high school, but the memories are deeply embedded in my soul. Every year it is the same when August begins.

Those memories: Being a student when we kicked that field goal to beat Pitt and rushed the field and yes, tearing down the goal post. Up to Sunnyside to celebrate! Was that the first fire-in-the-street?
It's been 221 days since the last college football game and-it-starts today, finally. I must wait 8 days for my favorite team to start but any football is better than none. As always, I have high hopes for my beloved Mountaineers! I have confidence in the coaching staff and their decisions to bring in this bunch of guys. Year 2 under Rich will mean improvement and they just might take a huge leap forward. Don't count them out but just remember it's year 2.
I'm looking forward to a MUCH-improved running game since the addition of Coach Trickett and a loaded running-back room, more speed on defense and a healthy QB room. Running the ball makes everything else easier and we need big plays out of the running game!

Jonathon Cooper has an arraignment date for his felony ****** ault case scheduled for Aug. 31, which is one day after the Denver Broncos are set to finalize their initial 53-man roster for the 2026 season.
After that arraignment, if Cooper's case goes to trial, it could be months away from a resolution. Cooper could face a potential suspension from the NFL, but the league likely won't make a decision on a potential suspension until after the legal process has been completed.
In the meantime, the NFL could place Cooper on the commissioner's exempt list, but the Broncos have not yet heard a decision from the league.
"I don't know," Payton said on Wednesday when asked if he expects to have clarity from the NFL on Cooper's status before the roster deadline. "In other words, I don't know, and you always want clarity, but I think we'll find out soon and you'll find out probably right when I do."
If the NFL places Cooper on the commissioner's exempt list, he could not practice or play in games, but the pass rusher would still be paid and he would be allowed at the team's facility for meetings, conditioning and weight training. PHOENIX (AP) — A polygamous sect leader already serving a 50-year federal sentence for orchestrating ***** involving children was given another 24 years in prison Tuesday on separate state convictions for child abuse for hauling girls in an unventilated trailer in Arizona.
Samuel Bateman, 50, was convicted of three child abuse counts stemming from an August 2022 traffic stop in Flagstaff that led to the discovery of three girls, ages 11 to 14, in the trailer. It had a makeshift toilet, sofa and camping chairs and lacked air conditioning and seat belts. Someone tipped off authorities about the trailer after seeing small fingers reaching through gaps in the doors.
Bateman's small group was an offshoot of the polygamous sect once led by Warren Jeffs. Bateman is currently serving 50 years in federal prison for coercing girls as young as 9 to submit to ***** acts with him and other adults and for scheming to kidnap girls from protective custody — the story of which is the focus of the Netflix series, "Trust Me: The False Prophet."
Citing an "insane danger" to the girls in the trailer, among other factors, Judge Joshua Steinlage ordered Bateman to serve the state sentence after completing the 50-year federal sentence.
"I love these dear people with all my heart, and I had no intention in the entire world to harm them," said Bateman, who represented himself in the case and didn't make a plea for leniency during his sentencing hearing.

On the hottest of summer days, a natural gas "peaker" usually kicks in to support the wave of air conditioning units turning on at once. It's the electrical grid's lifesaver, a turbine built only for the highest-demand hours of the year, and also one of the most expensive to run. It's what made 7 p.m. electricity so expensive in different parts of the U.S in the first place.
But a shift is taking place. California and Texas are now turning to batteries to power their grids. Power units that were typically used simply to store energy are now being deployed as power sources themselves. California's grid operator has at least 13,000 megawatts of battery capacity, enough to serve several million homes through evening peak hours, and Texas' batteries already power up to 10% of the state's grid at peak.
Electricity customers see the benefits. When batteries set the marginal price instead of gas turbines that cost two to three times as much to run, wholesale power gets cheaper during the hours it used to be most expensive. Gas peakers that already sat idle for more than 86% of the year will eventually lose the few remaining hours that kept them viable, and utilities will likely choose batteries over new gas plants long term.
Unlike gas turbines, batteries don't generate electricity on their own. They move it from the hours when it's cheapest to the hours when it's most valuable. Solar panels flood the grid with power in the middle of the day, pushing wholesale prices close to zero and sometimes below it. Batteries absorb that cheap surplus. When the sun sets and demand surges past what the remaining generation can deliver, they discharge into the gap that gas peakers once filled, offering to do it at a lower price.
In California, the cycle has run at a scale large enough to reshape the wholesale market. In 2024, across the California Independent System Operator's territory, batteries provided an average of 8.6% of all electricity consumed during the highest-demand evening hours, keeping the lights on in roughly three million homes. By 2025, they were regularly delivering more than 6,000 megawatts at peak, six times the roughly 1,000 megawatts they managed three years earlier.

A passenger jet flew for two days and carried hundreds of people after a mechanic's work light was accidentally left inside of its wing, Australian investigators reported Monday.
The Qantas Airways Airbus A380 underwent air-conditioning maintenance on January 7 before flying from Sydney to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, the Australian Transportation Safety Board said. It was only after the aircraft returned to Sydney, two days later, the 13-inch-tall work light was discovered.
"The maintainers did not identify that a work light had remained in the left wing during their foreign object clearance inspections," the ATSB said in the report. "In addition, while returning the tools, the maintainer did not identify that the work light had not been returned and the unreturned tool check at the end of the shift also did not identify the unreturned light."
At the start of the work, a maintenance engineer signed out the light, along with other tools, by scanning its bar code, according to investigators. When two workers were changing an air conditioning sensor, they placed the battery-operated light inside the wing and eventually turned it off but forgot to retrieve it. Another engineer inspected the work and later did a foreign object search but didn't see the light was left behind, the report said.
After the plane had returned from Dallas, an employee reviewing an "unreturned tool report" discovered it was missing.

Head coach Mike Vrabel attempted to separate the cornerback's physical status from his contract situation during his Saturday press conference.
Gonzalez will not return to practice immediately, according to Vrabel. The two-time Pro Bowl selection continues to condition and receive treatment, but the Patriots do not consider him ready for football activities.
"I don't think I would expect Christian, or should you expect Christian," Vrabel said. "Working hard, conditioning, but won't be practicing. He's not ready to get back out there and practice yet."

"I don't think I would expect Christian, or should you expect Christian," Vrabel said. "Working hard, conditioning, but won't be practicing. He's not ready to get back out there and practice yet."

Nearly eight months after losing his Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight ******* le to Joshua Vandue to an arm injury in the opening minute of their UFC 323 matchup, Pantoja will have an opportunity to reclaimthe belt when the two meet again in the UFC331 main event on Sept. 19 at Crypto.com Arena in LosAngeles.
According to American Top Team strength and conditioning coach EvertonOliveira, the injury hasn't impeded Pantoja's development.
Pantoja was a dominant champion going into his ******* le defenseagainst Van last year. However, after the challenger caught hiskick, "The Cannibal" used his forearm as a frame while falling tothe canvas. An awkward landing saw Pantoja immediately indicatethat his arm was injured, prompting the referee to step in.
"It was an extremely positive surprise the way Pantoja responded tothe injury," Oliveira told Sherdog. "It was a serious one, but hedidn't have to undergo surgery. The following week, he was alreadydoing physical therapy."
Oliveira believes Pantoja's recovery was going so well that theformer champion could have returned in May if needed.
"Thanks to his dedication and commitment, his recovery wasamazing," Oliveira added. "Let's say that if the UFC had needed himto return in May, he would have been ready."
The coach then emphasized that the additional time away from thecompetition after Pantoja recovered could ultimately benefit theformer 125-pound king.
"Before the injury, during his last camp, he was already goingthrough the best phase of his career," Oliveira said. "This timeaway from training only increased his motivation. Aug. 11—Between Marc Anderson and Zach Bruce, there's hardly a job in the Eastern Washington football program that at least one of them hasn't done.
There's even one — recruiting coordinator — that both have held. It wasn't Bruce's favorite.
"All the things that go into signing a football class," Bruce said. "That job, being the recruiting coordinator, is one of the hardest jobs in the building."
Bruce has been on staff at Eastern since 2020, and he played safety for the Eagles from 2012 to 2016. Anderson, with the program since 2014, has been on staff longer than anyone besides head coach Aaron Best, who first came to Cheney as a player in 1996, an entire lifetime ago for strength and conditioning coach and fellow EWU graduate Mike Perez.
They're not alone, either. Across the 20-person coaching and support staff for the Eastern Washington football team, 10 of them are EWU graduates.
