ACCRA, Ghana (AP) — Carlos Queiroz is back as coach of Ghana less than two months after quitting the role following World Cup elimination in the last 32.
Queiroz held fresh talks with the Ghana Football ****** ociation and the country's Ministry of Sports and Recreation, after which the Portuguese coach was handed another contract in charge.
The GFA said in a statement late Wednesday that it "believes Queiroz's extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this new chapter."
The 73-year-old Queiroz, who has coached Portugal, Colombia, Iran and Egypt at international level and Real Madrid at club level, left as Ghana coach after a 1-0 loss to Colombia at the first knockout stage.

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz has resigned from his position following the World Cup elimination after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the round of 32 last week.
The event in North America was his fifth consecutive World Cup as a coach.
"I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more," Queiroz said.
In his farewell remarks, the veteran coach criticized the Ghana Football **** ociation.
"The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch, Black Stars' success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana's extraordinary football talent," he said.

Kansas City Stadium hosts the final last-32 fixture of the 2026 World Cup on Saturday morning as Colombia take on Ghana, with a place in the round of 16 against Switzerland on the line.
Colombia topped Group K with seven points, beating Uzbekistan and DR Congo before drawing with Portugal. They are the only side in this last-32 phase yet to lose. Ghana came through as one of the eight best third-place teams, finishing third in Group L on four points.
Los Cafeteros arrive as clear favourites — but Queiroz's defensive record and the Black Stars' capacity to frustrate far bigger sides than themselves make this anything but straightforward. The two nations have never met before in any competitive or friendly fixture.

Ghana boss Carlos Queiroz said Thursday it was his team's "duty" to ensure another African side reached the World Cup round of 16 after a string of knockout defeats for teams from the continent.
The veteran Portuguese, managing at his fifth consecutive World Cup, led Ghana into the last 32 as one of the top third-placed teams.
They were among a record nine African nations who progressed from the group stage out of 10 who started the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
However, only Morocco have made the next step to the last 16 so far, with Senegal, Ivory Coast and DR Congo falling by the wayside.
"It's another challenge for us," said Queiroz, whose team face Colombia in Kansas City on Friday. "We have to improve these statistics tomorrow.

Ghana manager Carlos Queiroz accused England star Jude Bellingham of sparking a heated confrontation between the teams during their FIFA World Cup draw. The former Manchester United coach alleged that the Real Madrid midfielder escalated tensions on the touchline with a profanity-laced outburst.
England left Tuesday's game feeling disappointed in Group L after securing just a single point against Ghana. The Three Lions were unable to penetrate a compact defensive setup in their second match of the competition.
Following a challenge on Jerome Opoku near the technical areas that went unpunished, Bellingham became involved in a heated altercation with opposition players and argued with a Ghana staff member. Queiroz took exception to the situation and delivered an angry barrage of words toward Bellingham while being restrained by his own staff.

Ghana manager Carlos Queiroz said his side were denied a “clear penalty” and a “red card” against England and joked that the VAR was “on holiday” and must have “gone for a coffee” to have missed both incidents.
Queiroz said England were “very lucky” that both incidents went their way after Jordan Pickford avoided a red card after colliding with forward Prince Abu outside the box and defender Ezri Konsa later brought Abu tumbling inside the area.
“I’m not sure VAR is still working in the World Cup. We still have VAR? It’s working?” Queiroz asked after the 0-0 draw in Boston.
“I have some doubts about that because another penalty that they need give to Ghana, a clear penalty against England [was missed]. We had our chances to the point that they’re lucky. They’re very lucky.”
In a game that lacked forward inspiration for either team, Ghana looked to break on the counter in the 67th minute as substitute Prince Adu surged towards the box, chasing a forward ball.

England manager Thomas Tuchel defended Jude Bellingham after the midfielder was involved in a heated row with Ghana boss Carlos Queiroz at half-time of Tuesday's goalless draw.
Bellingham had to be pulled away by team-mate Morgan Rogers as he engaged with the Ghana coach and his backroom staff.
It came shortly after a foul when Bellingham shoved Jerome Opoku and tensions spilled over after the referee had blown for half-time.
The fall-out continued as players and coaches walked across the field to the tunnel at Boston Stadium.
"It was an exchange of emotions, and Jude stood up for himself and his team," said Tuchel.

Jude Bellingham was involved in a brief bust-up with Ghana boss Carlos Queiroz with England manager Thomas Tuchel denying that their Group L opponents “got under their skin” during the 0-0 draw in Boston.
The incident came at half-time and shortly after Bellingham fouled Jerome Opoku near to Ghana’s technical area. Bellingham and Queiroz exchanged words and the England midfielder had to be pulled away by team-mate Morgan Rogers while several Ghana substitutes held back the veteran Queiroz.
“He had a bad reaction with some bad names, that’s why the story started,” Queiroz later said. “My intention was to tell him to cool down with that tackle. It could be a second yellow card, a red card, because he went with his foot against my player.”
Asked what Bellingham had said, Queiroz replied: “It was nothing special. It’s just that emotional moment, the moment he had one word that is not in the book of life. It could create a little bit of fire. But immediately as professionals we pulled up. Football is something for brave people – not for people dancing in tuxedos.”
England ******* istant Anthony Barry followed Bellingham off the pitch at half-time and the Real Madrid midfielder was substituted during the second half and was replaced by Rogers, but England could not find a winner.

Ghana boss Carlos Queiroz joked that the video ******* istant referee must have gone for a coffee after claiming England escaped a penalty and red card in Tuesday's World Cup clash.
After both teams won their Group L openers, the well-drilled Black Stars sat back and frustrated Thomas Tuchel's men on an overcast afternoon in Massachusetts.
England dominated possession and had 19 shots as the game finished 0-0 at Boston Stadium, where Ghana's appeals for a late penalty for Ezri Konsa's challenge on Prince Adu fell on deaf ears.
The substitute had been hurt shortly before that in a collision with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who was awarded a free-kick rather than penalized.
Ghana head coach Queiroz looked towards a FIFA official in the post-match press conference and said: "I'm not sure VAR is still working in the World Cup. We still have VAR? It's working?

"To go from Belfast, to Rhode Island, to the Middle East, to Glentoran, to Qatar, to Cobh Ramblers, to Ghana and back to Rhode Island in 30 years is an interesting story and I'm glad to get the chance to share it."
Mick McDermott has seen it all during a long coaching career that has taken him all across the world in various roles.
The Belfast native is speaking to BBC Sport NI from Providence, Rhode Island, Ghana's base for the World Cup.
He is part of Carlos Queiroz's backroom staff once again and is also working as a performance co-ordinator for the Black Stars.
It is the second World Cup McDermott has worked at after also linking up with Queiroz for Iran's campaign in 2018, but this one means a bit more to the former Glens boss.
