GameStop (GME) is a Grapevine, Texas-based specialty retailer operating stores and e-commerce platforms under the GameStop, EB Games, and Micromania banners across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Europe. Once known primarily as a video game and electronics retailer, GameStop has diversified aggressively under Executive Chairman Ryan Cohen, expanding into collectibles, trading cards, pop culture merchandise, and even cryptocurrency and equity investments. The company has become a prominent "meme stock," attracting substantial retail investor attention while pursuing an unconventional capital allocation strategy that includes bitcoin holdings and a sizable equity stake in eBay (EBAY), positioning GameStop as much an investment vehicle as a traditional retailer.
GameStop stock recently traded around $21.15, near the bottom of its 52-week range of $17.79 to $28.10 and below its 200-day moving average. Shares have pulled back significantly from their 2025 meme-stock highs, weighed down by declining video game sales, ongoing store closures, and investor skepticism toward the company's diversification into digital ***** ets and equity investments. The stock did see brief bursts of retail-trader enthusiasm this year, including renewed meme-stock speculation tied to its proposed eBay acquisition, though shares have remained volatile and range-bound as GameStop's core retail business continues shrinking alongside its growing collectibles and investment segments.

eBay Inc. (EBAY), headquartered in San Jose, California, operates marketplace platforms that connect buyers and sellers. With a market cap of $48.5 billion, the company's marketplace platform includes its online marketplace at ebay.com, off-platform businesses, and the eBay suite of mobile apps, focused on buying and selling electronics, cars, clothes, and collectibles.
Companies worth $10 billion or more are generally described as "large-cap stocks," and EBAY perfectly fits that description, with its market cap exceeding this mark, underscoring its size, influence, and dominance within the internet retail industry. EBAY maintains a strong competitive advantage through its global two-sided network effect and **** et-light marketplace model, which generates robust cash flow without inventory risk. It dominates specialized, non-standardized categories where tailored trust tools create high entry barriers for competitors.

Inherited gold coins get a stepped-up basis, but gains from the date of death to the sale are taxable collectibles income at up to 28%.
A $50,000 coin gain on top of $95,000 in retirement income can push a single filer's Part B premium from $203 to $406 per month for a full year.
Splitting coin sales across two tax years, documenting date-of-death value, and modeling MAGI before selling can prevent crossing costly Medicare surcharge thresholds.

A retiree sells his late father's gold coin collection this summer for roughly $4,700 per ounce of gold content. His accountant confirms that the inheritance itself was not federal taxable income. Under Internal Revenue Code Section 1014, inherited property generally receives a new basis based on its value at the date of death.

GameStop (GME) has more than a meme-stock reputation riding on its upcoming earnings report. The video game and collectibles retailer has been battling a shrinking core business, with sales declining in each of the past four fiscal years. At the same time, concerns about share dilution and the company's ability to drive sustainable retail growth have continued to weigh on investor sentiment. Still, GameStop's preliminary fiscal 2026 second-quarter results, released on Aug. 31, may have given investors something to watch.
The company expects quarterly net income of $290 million to $310 million, almost double the $168.6 million reported a year earlier. But there's a catch. The stronger bottom line isn't being driven by a rebound in game sales. Instead, investment gains, particularly from GameStop's stake in eBay (EBAY), are doing much of the heavy lifting, while quarterly sales are expected to decline to $780 million-$800 million from $972.2 million a year ago.

On August 28, Miniso Group Holding Limited (NYSE:MNSO) held its interim earnings call, and the numbers told two very different stories under one roof. In China, the company posted its fastest first-half growth in three years, built on a membership base that just crossed 130 million people. Overseas, the picture looked rougher, with profit contribution shrinking to a fraction of what it was three years earlier. Investors now have to weigh a booming home market against a global expansion still finding its footing.
Miniso's China business grew revenue 26.2% in the first half of 2026, a pace management called its fastest in three years and one that dwarfed the 1.3% growth in the country's broader retail sales over the same stretch. That gap matters because it points to market share gains rather than a rising tide lifting all boats. Behind the growth sits a membership program that reached 130 million people in China as of June 30, up 31% year over year and an all-time high. Members are no longer a side benefit either. Their spending accounted for 77% of total China sales in the first half, up sharply from 60% a year earlier, giving the company a more predictable base of demand to build on.
The company's push into proprietary intellectual property adds another layer to that story. Its YOYO brand, launched just over a year ago, has expanded into 53 countries and generated close to RMB 500 million in revenue during the first half, including a collaboration tied to Disney's Toy Story 5. MINISO said it hit its company-wide target of RMB 1 billion in proprietary IP sales by the end of July, weeks ahead of the original year-end schedule. The payoff shows up in loyalty too. Members acquired in 2025 through IP products were retained at a rate 80% higher than non-IP members in the first half of 2026, and they purchased twice as often. TOP TOY, the company's separate collectibles brand, grew revenue 32.7% over the same period, adding another growth lever beyond the core Miniso banner.
The costs of that expansion are showing up on the bottom line. Adjusted operating profit fell 6% year over year to RMB 1.49 billion in the first half, a decline management tied to a structural shift toward directly operated stores and away from higher-margin distributor revenue. Selling expenses climbed to 25.8% of revenue from 23.1% a year earlier, driven largely by higher rent and depreciation tied to those company-run locations. Adjusted net profit, excluding foreign exchange effects, slipped 1.7% to RMB 1.22 billion even as the top line grew by double digits.

A new trading card game (TCG) shop in Shrewsbury has become a community hub for enthusiasts, with customers travelling from across the West Midlands to join in.
Owner Aydin Uyan said the shop's success had come through word of mouth after he spent several years on the scene selling cards at shows around the UK.
Uyan's shop Triple A Collectibles specialises in selling individual cards covering franchises including Pokémon, One Piece, Union Arena, Dragon Ball Z, Magic: The Gathering and Star Wars.
He told the BBC the community feel inside the premises was what set it apart.
"I was really busy on Saturday and a few of my regulars were in - I had one of them re‑sleeving cards, helping out," he said.

David Davidov said he stood for 20 seconds in shocked silence when a longtime customers Facetimed him this summer to show off a once-in-a-lifetime prize that had come from his strip-mall store west of Boca Raton.
It was a unicorn in the world of baseball trading cards: a 2026 Shohei Ohtani Topps Chrome card, the only one made.
It features the Los Angeles Dodger's signature in both English and Kanji, characters used in the ***** anese writing system. In the center of the card there are two game worn Major League Baseball logo jersey patches marking Ohtani's consecutive National League MVP awards in 2024 and 2025.
It's become one of the world's most expensive sports cards. The person who scored the card later sold it to the online network Secure Collectibles for $11 million.
People come to Boca Sports Cards all the time to buy a pack of baseball cards, which can range from $7 to $500, but since the unicorn emerged, Davidov said his business, in the Sandalwood Plaza shopping center along State Road 7, has welcomed a revolving door of new and old customers and the phone hasn't stopped ringing as others hope to capture some magic of their own.

A coveted, one-of-one autographed Cooper Flagg NBA Debut Patch card with a bounty on it appears to have been pulled.
Topps, the producer of the card, shared an image on social media Monday night of the card being pulled by a Rhode Island collectibles streamer called "RhodyBreakers."
Video of the reveal was also shared on social media.
Why does this matter? The Flagg card is one of the most anticipated in modern collectibles history — so much that Flagg's Dallas Mavericks have put a bounty on it to claim it as their own.

By now, you've heard the same advice a thousand times: "Stop purchasing packs. Buy singles!" But what if your nearest "local" card shop is hours away or you're searching for a chase card for sale located across the country? That's where eBay comes in.
From cards to Funko Pops, eBay has been a vital lifeline for collectors for decades. As the worldwide brand continues to adapt to meet the needs of its users, Mantel met with Luci Yang, eBay's GM of U.S. Collectibles, at The National to learn more about how the marketplace's latest changes. Here's what she had to say about her career, the importance of community, and how eBay is putting powerful data into the hands of collectors.
Luci Yang, eBay's GM of U.S. Collectibles
You've got undergrad degrees from Harvard, and both an MBA and a JD from Yale. How did you end up working for eBay?
Everyone's path is a little windier than people expect, and mine was too. I spent a long time earlier in my career in business and management consulting. I joined eBay about five years ago, right as the company was leaning hard into its focus-category strategy—you've probably heard our CEO talk about that.
At the time, I joined the automotive parts and accessories team, since that was one of the focus categories then. Over the last five years, I've worked in parts and accessories, electronics, and heavy equipment, another focus area for eBay. This past January, I moved into collectibles. So I come from more of a corporate background, but I'm excited to tap into the childhood passion of collecting. Right now my role is head of U.S. collectibles, with trading cards a big piece of it, along with comics, toys, coins and more.

Big news in the sports world this week as LeBron James finally made his decision about where he is going to play next year, and as you know he decided on the Philadelphia 76ers. So, what does that mean for his sports card and collectibles market?
Shrug emoji.
His cards were already starting to go up-up-up over the last few weeks or so in anticipation of not only his latest decision but in response to the massive Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant card market boom that has happened in the last few months. It seemed only right that the nostalgia and fomo would carry into the LeBron market.
And while many of his flagship Topps rookie cards are in the thousands of dollars, there are still some fun LeBron collectibles on the market that I think are worth grabbing and holding for the long run.
The Campioni di Futuro (mini) rookie card is maybe my all-time favorite. It's odd, it's adorable and it's under $100 for a raw. There's also numbered and different color variations, and while it may not bring you generational wealth, it certainly remains relatively rare for a LeBron rookie.

Bill Cosby's finances are facing intense scrutiny as a woman who won a $60 million civil judgment against him moves to collect the award. The latest court filings seek a detailed accounting of the disgraced comedian's ******* ets, including everything from bank accounts to royalty payments and intellectual property.
The post-judgment discovery marks another major development in the ongoing legal battle between Cosby and plaintiff Donna Motsinger. According to newly filed court documents, her attorneys are casting a wide net to determine which ******* ets could be used to satisfy the multimillion-dollar judgment.
RadarOnline reported that Motsinger's legal team served extensive post-judgment interrogatories seeking information about nearly every aspect of Cosby's financial life. The requests reportedly cover checking and brokerage accounts, cash holdings, private equity investments, business interests, real estate, automobiles, aircraft, jewelry, artwork, collectibles, retirement accounts, insurance policies, cryptocurrency, safe deposit boxes, and storage units.
The filing also seeks information about income-producing ******* ets, including royalties, licensing payments, residuals, copyrights, trademarks, and other intellectual property. According to the report, Motsinger's attorneys are attempting to identify every possible source of revenue that could help satisfy the judgment entered against Cosby in March.
The outlet reported that the requests extend beyond Cosby's personal finances. Attorneys are also seeking information about his wife, Camille Cosby, including ******* ets held in her name, jointly owned property, trusts, financial accounts, income sources, and any marital agreements that could affect ownership of ******* ets.

GameStop (GME) is taking another step to make its products more accessible to consumers. Through a new partnership with Uber Eats, announced on July 15, customers across the U.S. can now order video games, consoles, accessories, collectibles, and other electronics for on-demand or scheduled delivery directly from participating GameStop stores. The agreement expands GameStop's digital reach beyond its own stores and website, giving the retailer access to Uber Eats' growing retail marketplace as it looks to drive convenience and capture incremental sales.
The partnership is about strengthening its omnichannel strategy. Faster delivery could help the company capitalize on launch-day game releases, last-minute purchases, and impulse buying while enhancing customer engagement without significant capital investment. Although the deal looks unlikely to materially change GameStop's near-term earnings on its own, it demonstrates management's continued effort to modernize the business and diversify sales channels as the video game retail industry increasingly shifts toward convenience and digital commerce.

Round 3 of the Great American Tailgate challenge is underway, and Bills Mafia has once again delivered a commanding performance. Buffalo wings advanced with one of the widest margins of Round 2, reaffirming their status as one of the most recognizable and beloved tailgate foods in the country.
Now, wings enter a high‑stakes showdown against Carolina pulled pork — a dish that also posted a strong, confident win and carries deep regional pride. This matchup pits a national icon against a slow‑smoked Southern classic, and while Buffalo wings come in with historic momentum, nothing is guaranteed at this stage of the bracket.
The challenge is a joint partnership between USA TODAY and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, who are teaming up for a nationwide celebration of the foods that define football culture across all 32 NFL cities.
Every ballot cast not only helps Buffalo wings advance but also enters fans into a giveaway for a $1,000 Pro Football Hall of Fame merchandise gift card. One lucky voter will walk away with the chance to load up on Hall of Fame apparel, collectibles, and memorabilia.
This contest is part of a nationwide celebration in Canton highlighting the food identity of all 32 NFL cities — a showcase of regional pride, fan passion, and the traditions that make tailgating one of America’s greatest rituals.

As the retail landscape shifts toward digital marketplaces and reimagined department stores, choosing between eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY) and Macy's (NYSE:M) depends on whether you value high-margin technology or a classic turnaround play.
eBay operates a global online platform connecting buyers and sellers, while Macy's anchors its business in physical storefronts and luxury brands. They are sometimes compared because both companies are navigating a rapidly evolving consumer environment where scale and digital integration determine long-term viability in a competitive market.
eBay operates a global online marketplace that bypasses the need for owned inventory, focusing instead on connecting millions of buyers and sellers. The company specializes in enthusiast categories such as motor vehicles, collectibles, and refurbished items, often utilizing partners for authentication services. As of June 2026, GameStop (NYSE:GME) has submitted a non-binding acquisition proposal at $125 per share, introducing a new layer of uncertainty regarding the company's future ownership.
eBay competes within the broader universe of retail stocks by focusing on these niche categories to drive engagement. In fiscal 2025, revenue reached nearly $11.1 billion, good for roughly 7.9% year-over-year growth. eBay generated net income of roughly $2 billion, resulting in a net margin of close to 18.3%.
As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the company maintained a debt-to-equity ratio of 1.6x. That means eBay uses $1.60 of debt for every dollar of equity owned by shareholders to fund its operations. The current ratio, which measures the ability to pay short-term debts with ***** ets that can be converted to cash quickly, stood at 1.1x, while free cash flow reached nearly $1.7 billion for the year.

The humble Panini World Cup sticker album has once again captured the imagination of football fans across the world, proving its enduring appeal far beyond the pitch.
Adam Martin, a collectibles shop owner, recently witnessed this phenomenon first-hand. Bringing boxes of the coveted stickers to a Formula 1 race in May, intending to give them to friends. Instead, he was met with an unexpected surge of interest.
"When I walked in with this box of cards," Martin recalled, "hundreds of people of all creeds and cultures said something: 'Where did you get those? How can I get some?' Those Panini stickers are just that iconic collectible that goes beyond sports collectors."
The tradition of collecting these iconic stickers dates back to 1970, when four Italian brothers secured the rights to produce images for a mere $1,000. Over five decades later, these collectible images of players and teams are a global sensation, with fans of all ages eagerly purchasing packs and swapping duplicates to complete their albums.
This year's edition, boasting an unprecedented 980 distinct stickers, is the largest yet, partly attributed to an enlarged 48-team tournament. The immense popularity has turned them into a hot commodity, with many retailers reporting sold-out stock and backorders potentially not shipping until after the tournament champion is crowned.
