The 2026 midterm elections was a decisive victory for Democrats, who won control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. With Republicans retaining the White House, the election results bring a period of divided government starting in January.
Wall Street's initial reaction has been enthusiastic. As of this writing (Nov. 4), the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI) surged more than 1,500 points during morning trading, while the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC) also rallied.

Beneath the broader market's gains, investors are undoubtedly repositioning their portfolios. Artificial intelligence (AI) hyperscalers like Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Meta Platforms are surging, while many semiconductor stocks and data center operators are plunging.
The contrasting performance reflects uncertainty about how the election could affect AI and adjacent industries. For investors wondering whether to change their portfolios following the election, Warren Buffett's advice about mixing politics and investing is particularly relevant.

Warren Buffett's 90/10 mix of an S&P 500 fund and Treasury bills gives a 65-year-old with $600,000 about $4,800 monthly alongside Social Security.
Senior deductions and Social Security's partial taxation shrink the federal bill to roughly $1,000 a year, under 2% of spending.
Required withdrawals at 73 will raise taxes, so Roth conversions in the years before then and protecting the bond cushion keep the plan working.

Warren Buffett has told the world exactly how he wants his wife's money invested after he is gone. In his 2013 letter to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders he wrote that his advice to the trustee "could not be more simple": put 10% of the cash in short-term government bonds and 90% in a very low-cost S&P 500 index fund. No stock picking, no bond ladder, no annuity.

Schwab, Fidelity, and Vanguard each have different default beneficiary clauses, so a blank IRA form can send your account to your kids or your estate.
An estate inheriting an IRA triggers a 5-year withdrawal rule instead of 10, costing heirs an extra $2,430 in federal tax per child before state taxes.
Naming primary and contingent beneficiaries on every account, including Roth IRAs, and re-filing after any rollover or divorce takes about ten minutes.

Although the evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) has been the hottest trend in decades on Wall Street, it's not the only catalyst lifting the broader market. Investor euphoria for high-profile stock splits has also played an important role.
A stock split allows a public company to alter its share price and outstanding share count by the same factor without affecting its market cap or underlying operating performance. Within a span of just eight days, two historic AI stock splits were announced by Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) and Sandisk (NASDAQ:SNDK), which are set to undertake their first-ever forward splits, respectively.

Bill Ackman says the White House has a historic trade within reach. For the first time in 60 years, Warren Buffett watched someone else lead Berkshire Hathaway's (NYSE: BRKA)(NYSE: BRKB) annual meeting. That doesn't mean Buffett was absent from that May 2 event, though. He was there on the sidelines and had time to field questions in an unofficial capacity.
In a CNBC interview that day, Buffett was asked whether stocks felt expensive. His answer was that he had never seen people more in the mood to gamble and that "prices for an awful lot of things will look very silly."

Warren Buffett is and always has been a long-term investor. But if things are about to get "silly," should investors adjust their portfolios?
More than 1,000 new exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have launched in 2026 so far. A lot of them involve leverage, ultra-short-term options, and ridiculously high yields. In other words, they're the kinds of products that don't resemble anything that Warren Buffett would consider.

Florida voters on Tuesday approved a major overhaul of the state's property tax system. But the droves of billionaires and other ultrawealthy people who recently moved there are unlikely to notice much of a difference from its headline tax break.
Amendment 3—which raises the homestead exemption on non-school property taxes from $50,000 to $150,000 in 2027 and to $250,000 in 2028—passed with 62% of the vote, according to the ***** ociated Press. Supporters pitched Amendment 3 as relief for everyday homeowners, and for many, it is. But because the exemption is a flat dollar amount, it does far less for the billionaires who turned South Florida into one of the country's wealthiest enclaves.
Take Citadel CEO Ken Griffin, who moved his firm from Chicago to Miami, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos also moved to Miami in 2023 and has since bought a $237 million compound on Indian Creek, the island nicknamed "Billionaire Bunker." Bezos is also reportedly buying a $69.5 million oceanfront estate in nearby Golden Beach.
Experts told Fortune, though, the bigger factor of Amendment 3 for people like Griffin and Bezos is a less-noticed part: a tighter limit on how fast taxes can rise on second homes, rentals, and other properties that aren't a primary residence. Florida caps how much those properties' taxable values can increase each year, and Amendment 3 cuts that cap from 10% to 5%. In a hot market like South Florida's, that slows tax growth on homes whose values are climbing quickly, and many wealthy buyers own more than one.
But for a billionaire who claims a Florida homestead, the savings from Amendment 3 aren't that noticeable. Raul Gastesi, a real estate attorney and cofounder of Miami law firm Gastesi Lopez Mestre & Cobiella, calculated that at the statewide average non-school tax rate, the expanded exemption will save a homestead owner about $2,085 a year once fully in place. A home ***** sed at $350,000 would see its local services property tax bill fall from about $3,135 to about $1,050. A $50 million homestead would go from about $524,000 to about $522,000.

Between October 6 and November 4, 2026, NVIDIA (NVDA) stock fell 16.3% while the S&P 500 lost 1.6%. Anyone thinking of buying wants to know whether that drop is a chance or a warning. The answer depends less on demand, which management says is larger than NVIDIA can supply, than on what meeting that demand will cost the company. First, how strong is NVIDIA's business right now?
NVIDIA's Sales Growth Has Sped Up Four Quarters Running
The latest results show a very strong business. Revenue rose 105.9% from a year earlier to $96.2 billion in fiscal Q2 2027, the quarter that ended July 26, 2026. Growth had been 62.5% in fiscal Q3 2026, and it accelerated in each quarter after that. That 62.5% was itself up from 55.6% in fiscal Q2 2026. NVIDIA also keeps an unusual share of its sales as profit. Its operating margin over the last twelve months was 65.2%, against 18.7% for the S&P 500.
Investors pay 25.1 times NVIDIA's earnings over the last twelve months, against 22.8 for the S&P 500. A multiple only a little above the broader market reflects profits that more than doubled in a year. Net income over the last twelve months was $193 billion, against $86.6 billion a year earlier. If profits fell back, the same share price would mean a higher multiple.

Several flights across Europe have faced bomb threats, officials have said.
An Aer Lingus Airbus A320 plane which departed Dublin on Thursday morning issued an emergency alert, diverted and landed at Evreux air base in northern France.
Meanwhile, Finnish airline Finnair said there was a bomb threat against one of its planes travelling from Helsinki to the Italian capital on Thursday. It was escorted by air force jets and landed as scheduled.
It comes just days after eight European flights, including two departing from the UK, were targeted by suspected bomb threats. No explosives were found on any of the planes after searches.
A statement from Aer Lingus confirmed that flight EI402 from Dublin to Rome "diverted to Normandy this morning as a security precaution."

Henry liquidated his retirement savings to maintain a $90,000 lifestyle after an AI-driven layoff cut his pay to $50,000, leaving him $45,000 in debt.
His $15,000 personal loan at 35% interest costs roughly $5,250 per year, far exceeding the record-high average credit card APR of 21%.
Ramsey Show hosts urged Henry to sell his car, eliminating a $620 monthly payment, stop all new borrowing, and pick up a side hustle.

Investors are worried. CNN's Fear and Greed Index is at "extreme fear." Inflation remains persistently high, with the ongoing Iran war and tariffs not helping matters. Stock market valuations are frothy by most metrics.
In times of uncertainty, many investors look to safe havens. Utility stocks rank high on the list. But if the stock market crashes, will utility stocks really protect your portfolio?

Arguments for buying utility stocks as a defensive portfolio move make sense. Consumers don't stop using electricity, natural gas, or water during an economic downturn or stock market sell-off.
There's also historical precedent for utility stocks protecting against a market crash. For example, the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) sank almost 50% from its peak in early 2000 by October 2002 when the dot-com bubble burst. The Nasdaq-100 index plunged more than 80%. Meanwhile, shares of NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE) and The Southern Company (NYSE: SO), both large electric utility providers, jumped more than 20% during the same period.

A married couple over 65 who haven't claimed Social Security can pull about $47,500 from an IRA and owe the IRS nothing.
Collecting the average benefit shrinks the tax-free IRA withdrawal to about $34,000, because half of Social Security counts toward taxable income.
Past the zero-tax line, the Social Security tax torpedo makes each extra IRA dollar count nearly twice, producing an effective marginal rate of about 19%.
The biggest 401k decisions tend to get made once and never revisited: when to roll it over, what to hold inside it, and when to start taking money out. That is exactly what the report: 401k & IRA Tips and Answers was created to address, and it is free today. Read more here. (Sponsor)

Democrats secured control of the Senate on Tuesday, a seismic shift that effectively blocks President Trump's campaign to reshape the Federal Reserve and neutralizes what many ******* ysts viewed as a threat to the central bank's independence.
It also heightens the challenge for Trump should he maneuver to replace any sitting officials.
"Democrats' control of the Senate reclaims the party's ability to approve or deny the President's nominees for judges and heads of other executive branch agencies," Jonathan Pingle, an economist for UBS, wrote in a note. "That includes the need for Democrats to approve any new members of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System should one of the existing governors step aside."
That political firewall directly impacts the administration's ongoing effort to remove Fed governor Lisa Cook. Trump fired Cook in August 2025, claiming she committed mortgage fraud by making misrepresentations on loan documents years before her appointment to the central bank. Cook, a Biden appointee, has denied any wrongdoing and sued. The lawsuit has gone through multiple court rungs before reaching the Supreme Court earlier this year.
Last month, Trump established a committee to determine whether her statements constituted legal "cause" for removal from the central bank, signaling that his efforts to oust her are continuing.

An expert has broken down Queen Camilla's beach clean-up moment with King Charles on their Caribbean tour. She arrived over the weekend to join her husband for the final leg in Antigua and Barbuda on November 1, 2026. The monarch began the nine-day tour on his own on October 27, 2026, covering the Bahamas and Guyana before the final leg.
An expert has observed that Queen Camilla looked "uncomfortable" while helping clear a beach in Antigua, even blurting out a quick four-word warning to dodge a painful slip-up. King Charles and Queen Camilla joined local volunteers on the sands of Fort James Beach for the environmental initiative. The Queen opted to take off her shoes and walk barefoot to navigate the shoreline during the task.
However, per the Daily Express, lip-reading specialist Nicola Hickling has warned that walking shoeless amid a busy royal party carries its own risks. On examining the arrival footage, she remarked that Camilla's face was "worth watching here." The comment came as the royal made her way over the sand alongside her husband.
Hickling told the outlet that the Queen looked "slightly uncomfortable" as she abruptly moved away from King Charles. It was "possibly to avoid having her toes trodden on." Amid the clumsy shift, Her Majesty reportedly uttered the striking four-word line: "I must go easy."
The moment, however, passed without incident, and the couple carried on cheerfully. They even playfully crossed their litter pickers like swords, then took turns placing collected rubbish into a black bag. After that, the royal pair listened to Jennifer Meranto, founder and chief executive of Adopt a Coastline. She outlined the crucial effort to safeguard the island's shore. Two of the group's youth ambassadors joined Meranto for the briefing.

Meghan Markle reportedly despises the feeling of "begging for acceptance" from the royal family. The report comes amid the speculation surrounding the ***** ss of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry's relationship with the senior members of the institution, following their return to Britain. Now, according to a new report, a source claimed that Markle has been perceiving that Kate Middleton and Prince William have control over the public conversation. And, it has reportedly been getting quite frustrating for her.
The alleged feeling of inferiority with respect to the royal family has reportedly not been sitting well with Meghan Markle. As reported by Heatworld, a source revealed that Kate Middleton has been "hoping the brothers can somehow work it out. She'll always have a soft spot for Harry and would love him back in the fold." This comes despite the Waleses' dignified silence regarding the Sussexes since their return to the UK.
However, according to the source, the Princess of Wales is aware that she has to handle the situation "tactfully" with her husband, Prince William. Per the source, however, she refuses to give up the hope that the two allegedly estranged brothers can reconcile one day.
Per the news outlet, the insider further claimed that Markle "can't stand the feeling that the royal family has the upper hand – and hates the idea of being portrayed as desperately trying to claw their way back in, only to be repeatedly rejected." According to the insider, "It's like they're begging for acceptance from people who have no intention of giving it."
Furthermore, the source also explained to the publication what Markle has been feeling about the entire situation and what she might do. According to the source, "There's a defiant side to Meghan." The ***** ss of Sussex will "do what she wants and won't allow the royals to determine or stop her happiness or success," the source added.

Kim Kardashian knows how to make a statement with her fashion choices, and her latest appearance in Beverly Hills was no exception. The reality star and business mogul stepped out in an all-black ensemble that combined daring details with extravagant luxury. However, it was her exceptionally rare handbag that truly stole the spotlight.
Earlier reported by The Fashion Spot, Kardashian turned heads in a glossy black crocodile-effect jacket that featured a striking, structured silhouette. The fitted piece came with long sleeves, a dramatic collar, and a shiny textured finish that reflected the camera flashes.
The jacket was left partially unzipped at the front, creating a plunging neckline that added a daring touch to the sophisticated outfit.
The jacket also featured a cinched waist that emphasized Kardashian's figure, while its slightly flared hem gave it a more sculptural appearance. She paired the statement piece with opaque black tights.
Kardashian completed her ensemble with pointed-toe black stiletto heels featuring a glossy finish. She styled her signature long, jet-black hair straight with a center part, falling past her shoulders. She opted for her usual glamorous makeup, including defined eyes, sculpted cheeks, and a soft nude lip.

The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) stock market index has more than doubled from its 2022 bear market low point, but it faces a number of challenges that could derail its current bull run.
Rising oil prices are stoking inflation, which prompted the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates at its September meeting, and additional hikes might be on the way. This alone has been enough to spark a correction in the broader market in the past, but investors are also wrestling with a potential slowdown in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure spending, which is impacting some of the largest stocks in the S&P 500.

To top things off, the S&P is trading at a very expensive valuation, leaving it particularly vulnerable to a sharp sell-off. Fortunately, there is a way investors can capitalize on a downturn based on almost 70 years' worth of history.
The U.S. and Iran have been engaged in a geopolitical conflict since February, resulting in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz waterway, through which 25% of the world's seaborne oil transits each day. Moreover, the ongoing war between Saudi Arabia and Yemen recently knocked even more oil supply offline, while Ukraine and Russia also continue targeting one another's energy infrastructure.

Over the last four years, the ageless Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI), broad-based S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC), and growth-focused Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) have been virtually unstoppable. The artificial intelligence (AI) data center build-out has fueled an investing frenzy similar to what was witnessed in the mid-to-late 1990s with the internet.
But the stock market isn't without headwinds. Arguably, the biggest obstacle to the continuity of this bull market rally is persistently elevated inflation. The bad news for investors is that the Federal Reserve's initial inflation forecast for November shows things are getting downright ugly for Wall Street.

Roth conversions count as income, so retirees over 65 near $75,000 can lose the new $6,000 senior deduction without warning.
A $40,000 conversion for a single retiree costs about 23% rather than the quoted 22%, while $100,000 nearly erases the deduction.
Converting only up to the income threshold, waiting until 2029, or paying conversion tax from taxable savings can protect the deduction.

Congress handed people 65 and older a new tax break last year, and it comes with a tripwire that most of the articles celebrating it skipped. The deduction is worth up to $6,000 a person for tax years 2025 through 2028. It starts to shrink once your income passes $75,000 if you are single, or $150,000 if you file jointly, and it shrinks fast: 6 cents for every dollar over the line. At $175,000 single or $250,000 joint it is gone.

Interested in Sunrun Inc.? Here are five stocks we like better.
Sunrun lowered its 2026 outlook: It now expects about $200 million in Cash Generation, down from a prior range of $200 million to $375 million, and approximately $4.6 billion in Aggregate Subscriber Value. The company cited installation volumes below expectations and, to a lesser extent, higher interest rates.
Installation trends were mixed: Direct installation volumes grew 9% year over year, while affiliate volumes fell 67%; Sunrun expects affiliates to decline more than 60% for the full year. Storage attachment reached a record 75%, and Upfront Net Subscriber Value rose to about $3,700 per customer.
Sunrun expects growth in 2027 and beyond: It anticipates higher overall installation volumes and meaningfully positive Cash Generation next year, while flagging insurance, California property taxes and capital costs as potential pressures. The company also plans to double its online storage capacity by the end of 2028.

LONDON (AP) — World leaders who have sparred with the "America first" President Donald Trump greeted the rout of his Republican Party in the U.S. midterm elections with a measure of relief Wednesday, allowing themselves to hope for a less combative U.S. foreign policy.
But that hope was seasoned with the expectation that American voters' rebuke would not necessarily end the U.S. conflict with Iran or change Trump's policies on tariffs or his lukewarm-at-best support for Ukraine and America's European allies.
Progressive politicians cast the results as part of a trend of liberal comebacks around the world, following recent defeats for populists on the right in Hungary, Brazil and Serbia.
Spain's social democratic Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez wrote on X that Americans had voted "Against hate. Against machismo. Against climate denialism and against the privileges of the elites."
"It happened in Brazil. It just happened in the US. And it will happen soon in Spain," wrote Sánchez, who faces an election Nov. 29.

Chief Executive Officer Lip-Bu Tan purchased 150,000 shares of common stock across multiple trades priced between $64.71 and $64.74.
The strategic share acquisition follows Intel's Q3 2026 earnings release, which showed $16.5 billion in revenue, but shares suffered a sharp after-hours plunge driven by conservative fourth-quarter sales forecasts.
Investors are weighing cooling artificial intelligence capital expenditure (capex) cycles following a Democratic wave in mid-term elections.
Intel's (INTC) chief executive officer and director Lip-Bu Tan acquired 150,000 shares of common stock worth $9.7 million on Nov. 2 via his family trust, according to a regulatory filing on Wednesday.
Tan bought the stock through several open-market transactions at prices ranging from $64.705 to $64.735; the total investment amounted to approximately $9.71 million. The move could be seen as a vote of confidence as the semiconductor giant navigates supply chain pressures, fabrication hurdles at its Israel facility, and shifting demand in the personal computer market.
