The shocks started early at this US Open as 23-time grand slam champion and fourth seed Novak Djokovic suffered his earliest exit at a major in 20 years, losing in the first round.

Third seed and last year's semi-finalist Felix Auger-Aliassime is the biggest name to fall so far, losing in four sets to Russia's Karen Khachanov in the second round, while last year's finalist and 10th seed Amanda Anisimova crashed out in the third round to Anastasia Potapova.
2024 runner-up Taylor Fritz also lost in the third round, falling in five to 24th seed Francisco Cerundolo, as did French Open finalist Flavio Cobolli on a Saturday of shocks.

Taylor Fritz was unable to explain how he let a two-set lead slip against Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo as he became one of six top-10 seeds to be eliminated from the men's draw in the first week of the US Open.
The American ninth seed was in complete control and went an early break up in the third set, only for 24th seed Cerundolo to produce a shock 3-6 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4 win to reach the fourth round.
Less than an hour later, fifth seed Flavio Cobolli of Italy fell to a 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 0-6 3-6 defeat by Belgium's Alexander Blockx, opening up the men's draw even further.
However, German top seed Alexander Zverev did survive. The French Open champion won 6-2 7-6 (7-2) 6-2 against Chilean 25th seed Alejandro Tabilo to move into the last 16.
"I don't even know what to say," Fritz said. "I don't really want to talk to anybody, see anybody.

The American charge faltered at the US Open after shock defeats for Taylor Fritz, Madison Keys and Amanda Anisimova.
Fritz, the ninth seed, looked to be cruising into the fourth round when he moved two sets ahead of Argentina's Federico Cerundolo.
The 28-year-old, runner-up two years ago, had not dropped a set all week and appeared to be on the verge of joining compatriots Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul and Alex Michelson in the last 16.
But Cerundolo, the surprise winner at Queen's Club earlier this summer, scrapped his way back into an error-heavy match and won 3-6 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4.
The host nation is still looking for its first men's singles ****** le winner since 2003, when Andy Roddick beat Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final.

Jannik Sinner is on course for a blockbuster Wimbledon showdown with Novak Djokovic after the defending champion ended German veteran Jan-Lennard Struff's fairytale run in the quarter-finals.
Sinner won 7-5, 7-6 (7/4), 6-3 on Court One and will face Djokovic in the last four if the seven-time Wimbledon champion beats Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime later on Tuesday.
In the women's tournament, Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova reached their first Wimbledon semi-finals.
With Wimbledon basking in sweltering temperatures this week, world number one Sinner had to answer some uncomfortable questions about his ability to withstand the heat.
The 24-year-old Italian wilted in the recent French Open when the mercury reached boiling point, sparking a stunning second-round defeat against Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who battled back from two sets and 5-1 down to beat Sinner.

Jannik Sinner survived an almighty scare as he began his Wimbledon ******* le defence with a five-set comeback victory over inspired opponent Miomir Kecmanovic on Centre Court.
One month on from a seismic second-round loss at the French Open, four-time major winner Sinner recovered from an error-strewn start and an awkward fall to overcome his 50th-ranked opponent 4-6 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-2 6-3 after a tense three and a half hours.
Sinner opted against contesting a grass tournament in the lead-up to Wimbledon, with this his first match since an extraordinary collapse against Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo, whom he had led by two sets and 5-1 at Roland Garros.
Having appeared to physically shut down in the stifling Paris heat that day, Sinner's durability was thoroughly tested by Kecmanovic, and he was fortunate to escape relatively unscathed after a moment of genuine concern inside the stadium court.
There were gasps in the crowd when Sinner slipped behind the baseline during the third set and took time to return to his feet, the umpire heading over to check on his wellbeing.

Arthur Fery continued his impressive grass-court form with a dramatic comeback victory over Argentina's Roman Andres Burruchaga in the first round of the Lexus Eastbourne Open.
The 23-year-old Londoner, who achieved a career-high ranking of 118 after his strong run to the Queen's Club quarter-finals last week, appeared to be heading for defeat.
Burruchaga, whose father famously scored the winning goal in the 1986 World Cup final, had turned the contest around to lead 5-3 in the deciding set.
However, Fery rallied spectacularly, winning four consecutive games to clinch a hard-fought 6-2 4-6 7-5 victory. He now faces another Argentinian, the eighth seed Juan Manuel Cerundolo, in the next round.
Reflecting on the match, Fery told the BBC: "I don't know where to start. It was a roller-coaster. I started off really well then I struggled in the second (set) a lot and at the start of the third.

Francisco Cerundolo had to fight through the longest Queen's final in history to claim the biggest ***** le of his career, but he could hardly have timed it better.
His parents arrived from their flight from Argentina in just enough time to see their son triumph - despite his father's fear of flying.
Cerundolo had never won a ***** le above ATP 250 level before and it looked as though his wait would continue when he went a set and a break down against American Tommy Paul.
But after an enthralling three hours and two minutes on court, a triumphant Cerundolo threw himself to the floor in celebration after a 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 6-3 victory.
"They took the plane yesterday evening. I knew they were landing in London around 14:30 [BST]," he said.

Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo won the longest final in Queen’s history as he defeated 2024 champion Tommy Paul to win the biggest ***** le of his career.
The seventh seed is the first Argentinian to win the ATP 500 tournament, one of the most prestigious warm-up events before Wimbledon, and celebrated with his parents, who flew in just in time to watch their son’s success.
Four of the 27-year-old’s five matches in west London this week went to a decider and it was only fitting that the final would too, as he fought back from a set down for the third successive match to win 6-7 (4) 6-4 6-3, after Paul saved four championship points.
At three hours and four minutes, in sweltering heat, an enthralling final was seven minutes lengthier than the previous longest, Marin Cilic’s 2018 win over Novak Djokovic.
Afterwards Cerundolo paid tribute to his father Alejandro, who flew out from Argentina - despite a fear of flying - with his mother to support him.

Jannik Sinner appears to be putting the disappointment of his French Open run behind him, with the world No. 1 spotted in Sardinia for a getaway with his girlfriend, Danish model Laila Hasanovic. The Italian was also joined by his father, Hanspeter, and brother, Mark, amid reports that he had a personal interest in choosing the island as his vacation destination.
With the men's French Open final taking place on Sunday, June 7, it feels unusual not to see Sinner competing for the **** le in Paris. Given that the Italian entered the Major on a remarkable 29-match winning streak and having clinched all three clay-court Masters 1000 events, he was expected to continue his dominance at Roland Garros and complete the Career Grand Slam.
The world No. 1 kicked off his campaign with a commanding 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 win over Clément Tabur. However, Sinner found himself in trouble after leading 6-3, 6-2, 5-1 during his second-round clash against Juan Manuel Cerúndolo. As he battled dizziness, nausea, and weakness in the hot Paris conditions, Cerúndolo mounted a comeback to claim a 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 victory and oust the Italian from the tournament.
Although Sinner returned to Monaco after his loss, he has since jetted off to Sardinia with his girlfriend, Laila Hasanovic, his father, Hanspeter, and his brother, Mark. Hasanovic, who had been spending time at home in Copenhagen during the world No. 1's French Open campaign, brought her pet dog Snoopy along for the trip.
