The Tennessee ***** ans have wrapped up training camp and the preseason, and finished an uneven week with a 25-15 loss to the Chicago Bears in the preseason finale.
With the preseason behind them, all of the attention now turns to general manager Mike Borgonzi, who must trim Tennessee's roster from 91 players to 53 before his attention turns to the practice squad. Borgonzi has plenty of work to do. Will he look outside the organization for help on the offensive line or with the pass rush?
The ***** ans will face some difficult decisions on both sides of the ball. Will they keep six wide receivers? Is former starting quarterback Will Levis worth a roster spot? How will special teams prowess factor into the final roster makeup? Who will be the surprise addition to the final 53-man roster?

Much is being made about the Tennessee ***** ans' supposed ongoing struggles in the secondary. It was undeniably disappointing to watch San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Kurtis Rourke complete 12-of-14 passes against the ***** ans' starting secondary in the first preseason game. Starting quarterback Cam Ward has also routinely carved up the starters for most of training camp.
Head coach Robert Saleh isn't panicking, but recently admitted there should be a sense of urgency. Understandably so. The ***** ans committed more than $100 million in free agency to new starting cornerbacks Cor'Dale Flott and Alontae Taylor, and they've been at the forefront of the struggles.
With the ***** ans doing some soul searching, you wonder if cornerback Joshua Williams could contribute something positive at cornerback. He was the third cornerback the ***** ans signed in free agency earlier this offseason. His shared history with Mike Borgonzi and the Kansas City Chiefs made him a target.
Williams has been wearing a yellow non-contact jersey at training camp due to a pectoral muscle injury. Coach Saleh recently claimed he's close to shedding that jersey and being a full participant at practice. Saleh also praised his length and work ethic, and Jim Wyatt noted he had a pass breakup during individual drills earlier this week.
Williams is long and competitive. He possesses the physical profile Coach Saleh prefers in his cornerbacks. If Taylor and Flott struggle into the regular season, perhaps Williams will start getting worked into the rotation. For now, he's simply focused on being healthy enough to contribute once his number is called.

While the Tennessee ***** ans were busy going through the tape of Thursday night's preseason victory over the San Francisco 49ers, the organization and one of their players got some bad news from the NFL.
On Friday, the NFL announced that defensive back Nazeeh Johnson will be suspended for the club's first six regular-season games without pay for violating the NFL's Performance-Enhancing Substances Policy. Johnson can finish training camp and preseason with the team, but will go onto the suspension list beginning August 30 and be eligible for reinstatement on Monday, October 19.
The 28-year-old cornerback entered the league as a seventh-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2022 NFL Draft after his college career at Marshall, and spent the entirety of his career in Kansas City before leaving as a free agent this offseason. Although he dealt with multiple injuries with the Chiefs, he developed into a solid backup and core special teamer, recording 66 tackles and one sack in 29 career games, making six starts over that span.
The ***** ans signed Johnson in late July to add some veteran competition in the secondary, and he made his debut against the 49ers, recording five total tackles (four solo). Now, after entering camp late and already on the bubble, it will be interesting to see how general manager Mike Borgonzi and head coach Robert Saleh handle his pending suspension.

Tennessee **** ans defensive back Nazeeh Johnson has been suspended by the NFL for the first six regular-season games for "violating the NFL's Performance-Enhancing Substances Policy," according to a statement from the league.
The **** ans signed Johnson near the start of this training camp, waiving cornerback Latrell McCutchin in the process. Johnson was credited with five tackles during the opening preseason game in San Francisco, tying for the most on Tennessee's team. He also reportedly had an interception during the **** ans' joint practice with the 49ers,
Johnson, 28, played college football at Marshall before becoming a seventh-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022. He played in 29 games for the Chiefs over the past four years. He started six games in 2024.
Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi, clearly, was familiar with Johnson from his time in Kansas City.
Johnson remains eligible to participate in preseason practices and games. If he makes the **** ans' roster out of training camp, he'd be first eligible to play in the Oct. 25 game against the Cleveland Browns.

The Tennessee **** ans totally revamped their defensive line this offseason. They hired Robert Saleh to be the new head coach. Saleh came in and reimagined the defensive line in his vision.
It started when the **** ans traded for Jermaine Johnson II. They signed John Franklin-Myers, Jordan Elliott, and Jacob Martin in free agency. Mike Borgonzi also traded for Solomon Thomas. Saleh coached all five of these players in New York and San Francisco.
Of course, they're joining Jeffery Simmons, who inked a historic extension with the **** ans earlier this offseason. Saleh will attempt to develop sophomore Femi Oladejo. The **** ans also drafted Keldric Faulk with a first-round pick. Faulk was another Saleh-approved addition, given his similar length and build to Arik Armstead. The aforementioned eight players will essentially be the **** ans' defensive line rotation this season.
Coach Saleh is expected to field an aggressive, attacking-style defense. That's the focal point of his defense. It should lead to impressive sack numbers for the **** ans' defense. Expectations are high.
Given the **** ans' lack of talent at EDGE last season, defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson actually did an excellent job manufacturing pressure. An All-Pro season from Simmons helped. The **** ans ranked 12th (tied) in the league in sacks with 42. That exceeded preseason expectations.

On Tuesday, Tennessee **** ans general manager Mike Borgonzi met with the media and touched on the upcoming offensive line competition at training camp. He said he was pleased with where the team was at this stage of the preseason, with active battles at center and right guard taking center stage.
Center Austin Schlottmann and guard Cordell Volson will get the first crack at winning the starting job, but they will rotate and face challenges from Pat Coogan and Jackson Slater early in camp.
During the press conference with head coach Robert Saleh, Borgonzi hinted at potential additions to the interior of the offensive line, and it appears he was serious. On Wednesday, the **** ans worked out Oregon State guard Joshua Gray and Northern Iowa guard Jared Penning.
Gray doesn't have any NFL experience, but did spend 2025 with the Atlanta Falcons on their practice squad after going undrafted out of Oregon State. The 6-foot-5, 299-pound guard signed a reserve/futures contract with the Carolina Panthers, but was waived in July ahead of training camp.
Like Gray, Penning also spent his rookie season on a practice squad with the Baltimore Ravens after going undrafted out of Northern Iowa in 2025. He re-signed a reserve/futures contract with the Ravens in January and was earlier in July.

Biggest storyline: The **** ans totally revamped the cornerback room, signing Alontae Taylor and Cor’Dale Flott to very lucrative contracts in free agency. They’ll be tasked with being Robert Saleh’s starting boundary corners. This position needed a makeover after trading Jarvis Brownlee and Roger McCreary, and cutting L’Jarius Sneed. Expectations are high for Taylor and Flott.
Most to prove: Both Kevin Winston Jr. and Marcus Harris are sophomores entering the year in starting roles. The **** ans cut Xavier Woods during the offseason to make room for Winston in the starting lineup opposite Amani Hooker. Harris doesn’t appear to have any competition for the nickel role either.
Breakout star: Winston Jr. is probably the correct choice. The former Penn State standout flashed an exciting skill set when he was healthy as a rookie. Winston is entering camp fully available and should make a massive impact next to Hooker in the lineup. He possesses every trait to be a breakout defender.

The Tennessee ****** ans are off on summer vacation and won't return until training camp begins in late July. Coach Robert Saleh and general manager Mike Borgonzi have spent half a year reinventing the ****** ans depth chart in Saleh's image, making changes in an attempt to create depth and playmaking dynamism after back-to-back 3-14 seasons.
To bridge the summer break into the season, The Tennessean is looking at each ****** ans position group individually and evaluating the big questions that will determine how the ****** ans' 2026 season goes. We now look at Carnell Tate and the ****** ans' wide receivers.
Let's talk about Justin Jefferson for a second.
Since the Minnesota Vikings drafted Jefferson in 2020, he's made four All-Pro teams and put up six straight 1,000-yard seasons. His name's never been far from the "best receiver in football" debate, and for good reason. No one in NFL history's accounted for more receiving yards in his first six seasons than Jefferson.
Jefferson was the fifth receiver off the board when the Vikings picked him No. 22 overall in 2020. In retrospect, it's hard to separate Jefferson's now-laughable draft slide from his status on one of the best college football teams ever. Jefferson was the second fiddle on LSU's championship 2019 receiving corps behind Ja'Marr Chase, a superstar prospect who's lived up to his billing and has a good shot at breaking Jefferson's first-six-years-in-the-league receiving record in 2026.

The Tennessee ****** ans totally revamped their wide receiver corps for franchise quarterback Cam Ward this offseason. Mike Borgonzi signed Wan’Dale Robinson to a four-year contract worth $70 million in free agency. The ****** ans then doubled down at the position by selecting Carnell Tate at No. 4 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The ****** ans have more depth at the position than ever before. They decided to retain former 1,000 yard receiver Calvin Ridley as opposed to making him a salary cap casualty, which is the move everyone expected them to make. Sophomores Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike help round out a stellar room.
Tate and Robinson are the overwhelming favorites to be the ****** ans’ top two receivers. Robinson has essentially spent his entire NFL career playing for new ****** ans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. That’s the biggest reason why Borgonzi signed him in free agency.
Robinson registered 90+ receptions in consecutive seasons with the New York Giants in 2024 and 2025. Even though Daboll was fired midway through 2025, it was still his offense. Robinson also surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in his career this past season.
Robinson projects as a high-volume weapon in Daboll’s offense. He’ll be a quarterback-friendly target for Ward. That makes Robinson a strong candidate to lead the ****** ans in receptions, but Tate’s big-play ability could make him the offense’s receiving yards leader.

The price for elite defensive tackles keeps climbing, and the Eagles' eventual decision on Jalen Carter just got more expensive. Jeffery Simmons agreed to a three-year, $105.8 million contract extension with the ****** ans that includes $100 million guaranteed, a massive deal that resets the financial conversation for interior defensive linemen and provides another marker for Carter's eventual negotiations in Philadelphia. Simmons, one of Tennessee's franchise pillars, earned the payday after a dominant season in which he posted a career-high 11 sacks, broke Jurrell Casey's franchise record for sacks in a season by a ****** ans defensive tackle and led NFL interior defensive linemen in solo tackles, tackles for loss, sacks, sack yards, quarterback pressures, pressure rate and forced fumbles.
That deal matters to the Eagles because Carter is tracking toward the same market neighborhood, even if his timeline is different.
Philadelphia already exercised Carter's fifth-year option, keeping him under team control through 2027. Because he is a two-time Pro Bowler, that option is worth $27.127 million, a significant figure that still could look team-friendly if Carter's next contract pushes toward the top of the defensive tackle market. Simmons' deal does not automatically mean Carter will land the same structure, but it gives his representation another data point in a market where rare interior disruptors are becoming increasingly expensive.
The ****** ans made their position clear when announcing the agreement.
"Jeffery Simmons is a pillar for our franchise and embodies what it means to be a ****** an," ****** ans general manager Mike Borgonzi said in a statement. "He's the premier defensive tackle in the National Football League and you win with players like Jeffery. Not only is his leadership on the field what we want our program to represent, but off the field, he sets the standard for our community."

The Tennessee ******* ans made significant changes to their roster on both sides of the ball during the offseason, and many of those changes have been hot topics across various media outlets, with players such as John Franklin-Myers and Wan’Dale Robinson drawing most of the attention. However, one player that general manager Mike Borgonzi added is flying under the radar: Mitch Trubisky.
Trubisky was a solid pickup and clearly an upgrade over the players the ******* ans had backing up Cam Ward in 2025. While he has not had a lights-out career, his experience in both Brian Daboll’s system and with the pressure of his draft pedigree makes him the perfect choice to help Ward ******* imilate into the system.
“It was a tough decision, but in the end I felt like it was right for me and my family just to take this opportunity to come and really reunite with Dabes and Shea. It’s just evolved over the years, and it has been proven everywhere he’s been that they put up points and it is very friendly for the quarterback. So you just got to dive in, know the execution, go out there and find completions, and it’s a really fun system to play in.”
His knowledge and experience in this system will be a valuable ******* et for Ward to lean on during the season and should also give head coach Robert Saleh confidence in the quarterback room heading into the year. There is always hope that a team will never have to use their backup, but at least now, if they have to call on Trubisky, he will be ready.
