Johnson Wagner believes that while some will vote for Scottie Scheffler to be PGA Tour Player of the Year, the opportunity to opt for someone else for a change will tempt many to look elsewhere.
Scheffler is in an unusual position heading into the FedEx Cup playoffs. Over the previous few seasons, the world number one has been dominant, winning the Player of the Year in each of the last four years.
However, the 2026 season has been a lot tougher for Scheffler. While he won The American Express on his first start of the year, the 30-year-old has failed to add to his tally of victories.
Scheffler has finished second five times. Meanwhile, the likes of Chris Gotterup, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Cameron Young, and Wyndham Clark have all won multiple times.
There is no question that Scheffler has to be in the conversation when it comes to the Player of the Year.

Just when you think it can't get any worse…A comically pathetic 8th inning turns a possible actual win into just another disheveled loss and the "free fall" stats keep mounting.
It's hard to believe that on June 19th the A's were 38-38, winning percentage that would earn them a spot 1.5 games out of 1st place had they maintained it through this evening. In hindsight, it was probably a relatively poor strategy to go 7-30 thereafter, 5-26 in their most recent 31.
Before continuing, we need to take a moment to appreciate just how "Bad News Bears" the bottom of the 8th inning was. Tasked with holding a 4-3 lead, Hogan Harris began the inning with the obligatory lead off walk. To his credit he was efficient and needed only 4 pitches, cleverly conserving himself so he could offer his greatness to many ensuing batters.
Then he walked the second hitter because walking the first 2 you face has become a reliever's mantra. No fewer than 3 different relievers did that in the same game not too long ago — I would tell you the exact date but the games all blend together now.
In the only normal at bat, JJ Bleday struck out. What followed was somewhat remarkable in that it took blunders from 3 different players to occur. Tyler Stephenson flied to RF deep enough for Elly De La Cruz to tag and go to 3B. Butler's throw was one hop to the cut off man, Jacob Wilson, but Wilson let the ball go through. It went through to 3Bman Tommy White, who fielded the throw by not catching it and the ball rolled to Hogan Harris backing up. Harris looked at the ball, counted the stitches, and thought about his grocery list, but did not call time. So Sal Stewart, who had been anchored to the bag at 1B the entire time, jogged to 2B.

The 2026-27 Irish League season will begin as scheduled this weekend after three proposals put forward by the Northern Ireland Football League were overwhelmingly approved at an extraordinary general meeting [EGM] on Tuesday night.
The EGM was called by NIFL to try and prevent the new Irish Premiership and Championship seasons being delayed.
For the meeting to take place, 90% of the 47 member clubs had to agree to its staging, and for much of Tuesday it appeared that that quorum may not be reached.
In the event, the required percentage was met and subsequently the vast majority of clubs voted with NIFL, well in excess of the 75% required.
The three proposals discussed and passed were The Approval of League Restructuring, the Adoption of League Rules (2025/26) and the Approval of Competition Rules (2026/27).

Exhale, folks. The trade deadline has come and gone, and the rapid refreshing of Twitter, Bluesky, or wherever you get your news from can cease. The roster you look at now is more or less what you'll see for the rest of the season, save for a well-timed DFAs for cost-cutting purposes, à la Nathaniel Lowe in 2025.
It was an eventful day for Craig Breslow, who successfully executed four trades before the clock struck 6 pm EST:
INF Curtis Mead for Connelly Early
C Adley Rustchman and C Jake Rogers for Anthony Eyanson, Kyson Witherspoon, Carlos Narvaez, Enndy Azocar, and a player to be named later
LHP Erik Miller and prospect Carlos Gutierrez for Marcelo Mayer

Arsenal and Barcelona are the two main clubs competing to sign Julian Alvarez this summer, and both teams are determined to win the race for his signature.
Alvarez prefers a move to Barcelona, but their approach has frustrated Atletico Madrid. Several reports suggest that Atletico would rather sell him to a club outside Spain if the Argentine pushes to leave the club.
Atletico Madrid are doing everything possible to keep Alvarez for another season, and it remains unclear whether the forward would take drastic action to force through a move away from the club.
Since the end of last season, Barcelona have been working to add Alvarez to their squad and even saw an offer rejected. They have invested significant time in their pursuit, but their position could now change because they have identified another option.
According to Fussball Daten, Barcelona would move for Vangelis Pavlidis if they fail to sign Alvarez this summer. The report claims that the Catalan club are close to stepping away from the race for the Argentine because they will not wait indefinitely for him.

ELKHART LAKE – Road racing fans got their endurance race at Road America. Wayne Taylor Racing got its first overall victory in more than two years.
Strategies changed frequently, The racing was every bit as competitive throughout the 6 hours of the Motul SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix as it was in a race less than half as long a year ago. A little cleaner, too.
"I think if you want more action than this, this is crazy," co-winner Filipe Albuquerque said with a smile. "Up to the last laps....
"I love it here. It makes sense to have a 6-hour race here. The crowd is incredible coming around. Again, IMSA never fails to put a show on. I think it's spot on.

Falcons running back Bijan Robinson is not fully participating in training camp as he seeks a new contract. Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski is not concerned about that.
Asked about his own communications with Robinson, Stefanski declined to get into specifics, but he said he was confident that the two sides are doing everything they can.
"I don't think it's fair to share those types of things," Stefanski said. "We all trust in the process of what's going on."
Stefanski says he doesn't hold it against Robinson that he is choosing not to practice until he gets the contract he wants.
"The NFL, you understand different things come up via all sorts of things, and contracts obviously are a part of that. It doesn't change relationships," Stefanski said.

For the fourth consecutive day in St. Joe, Kansas City Chiefs players, coaches and fans were treated to a cool morning; this practice was breezy but sunny, and lasted roughly two hours.
The team is looking ahead to a rest day on Sunday before the pads come on Monday. Here's everything to know from Arrowhead Pride's in-person observations of Saturday's practice:
Jared Sapp has the details on rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen's mid-practice injury that drew a loud gasp from the crowd watching. It happened during punt team.
With defensive end Ashton Gillotte unavailable due to a strained hamstring he suffered during Friday's practice, fourth-year player Felix Anudike-Uzomah stepped up to play more with the starting defense on Saturday.
As practice began, the first-team unit walked through different formations. Most notable was this year's first look at Dime personnel, the defensive formation with six defensive backs, one linebacker and four pass-rushing threats up front.

Do the Kansas City Chiefs have enough talent on their roster to win the AFC West over the Denver Broncos in 2026?
In the passing game, Patrick Mahomes will be the Chiefs' biggest advantage over the Broncos for next season, especially if the former Texas Tech Red Raider returns to MVP form in 2026. The arrival of Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker III in free agency will also give Kansas City an additional edge on offense.
During his outstanding 2025 campaign with the Seattle Seahawks, Walker gained 277 more yards than the Broncos' leading rusher.
Mahomes and Walker will team up with legendary tight end Travis Kelce to give the Chiefs a clear offensive advantage over Denver, which is expected to be led by star quarterback Bo Nix and newly acquired wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.
With two matchups between Kansas City and Denver on the horizon, fans should expect the Chiefs to fare better against the Broncos in 2026 than they did last season.

After working on the practice fields at their Baptist Health Training Complex on Wednesday and Thursday, the Miami Dolphins were back out their Friday morning for their final training camp session of the week.
Miami will be off on Saturday before returning to action on Sunday, with fans in attendance. However, before we get there, let's talk about everything that happened at Day 3 of Dolphins training camp, according to the beat writers on the scene.
The Dolphins had perfect attendance on Friday again, as their only absences were wide receiver Chris Bell (NFI) and cornerbacks Darrell Baker Jr. (PUP) and Storm Duck (PUP), per the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's David Furones.
After the offense struggled on Day 2, they bounced back a bit on Friday. Multiple reporters noted that rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas made multiple impressive plays, including a one-handed grab for a touchdown. That may be very important, especially with Tutu Atwell's hands popping up as an issue on Thursday.
Speaking of problems catching the ball, rookie tight end Will Kacmarek had a ball bounce of his hands into the arms of a waiting defender, according to the Palm Beach Post's Joe Schad. This has been an issue for a few players early on.

CHICAGO — Michigan State linebacker Jordan Hall had a smile on his face at Big Ten Media Days on Wednesday talking about his former teammate Nick Marsh's unique dress sense.
After the 2025 season, Indiana football signed the talented receiver out of the transfer portal. Marsh made a splashy entrance on the first day of spring camp by busting out a pair of gold cleats in violation of Curt Cignetti's strict uniform policy.
Cignetti sent Marsh right back to the locker room.
"It didn't surprise me that he yelled at him," Hall said with a laugh. "It didn't surprise me that he was wearing it."

Megan Keith's grandad had two goals. To make it to 100 years old and then to watch the Commonwealth Games.
Dr Murray Kirkwood achieved both - and even saw his granddaughter win a bronze medal in the women's 5000m at Scotstoun.
He's no stranger to the ground. As an ardent Glasgow Warriors fan, he delivered the match ball before Franco Smith's side hosted Benetton in March, days before he became a centenarian.
He's had some memorable nights round these parts, but watching Megan tear to the podium should eclipse them. Well, so she hopes...
"He's a bit of a phenomenon," Keith, who finished a disappointing ninth in the 10,000m earlier in the week, told BBC Scotland.

MONTREAL (AP) — World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic have withdrawn from the National Bank Open.
Tennis Canada announced Friday that neither will compete in Montreal after both players were included on the entry list for the ATP Masters 1000 tournament beginning Aug. 1.
Seven-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz was not included on the player list as he continues to recover from a right wrist injury that forced him to miss the French Open and Wimbledon.
"After carefully considering all the factors together with my team, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw from Montreal," said Sinner, who won at Wimbledon earlier this month.
"It is never easy to miss such an important event, but we believe this is the right decision to prioritize my health. I'm disappointed not to be there, but I look forward to returning to Montreal in the future."

He was once hailed as Liverpool's footballing messiah. Now Jurgen Klopp has been asked to work miracles for his country.
Last month, Klopp watched on as a touchline TV pundit as Germany went out of the World Cup in a shock penalty shootout defeat by Paraguay.
The loss led head coach Julian Nagelsmann to resign and plunged German football into a full-scale identity crisis.
Just three weeks later, it is Klopp who has been tasked with picking up the pieces and restoring his country's once-famous winning mentality, signing a four-year deal to become head coach.
Assigned with leading the team through Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup, Klopp's first game in charge will be against the Netherlands on 24 September.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams have unveiled two alternate uniforms designed to connect the current team to its rich California history.
At an event for season-ticket holders next to SoFi Stadium on Thursday night, the Rams revealed a new uniform that pays tribute to their 1951 NFL championship team with a yellow jersey and blue satin numerals in the style used 75 years ago. The Rams then introduced a white alternate uniform with blue numerals emulating the Rams' primary look during the 1960s, an era best known for the team's Fearsome Foursome defensive front.
The uniform with yellow jerseys and white pants is dubbed "Classic Sol," while the all-white alternates with blue numerals are called "Fearsome White." The Rams will still wear the three uniforms they used last season as well, including their main home and away looks along with their all-black "Midnight Mode" Rivalries uniform.
The Rams will debut their Classic Sol look on Monday night at home in Week 2 against the New York Giants, and they'll come out again for a high-profile Thursday night home showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs in December. The Fearsome White uniforms will come out on Thanksgiving Eve for a home game against the Green Bay Packers.
While designing these long-anticipated alternates over the past several years, the Rams' creative team focused on creating throwbacks with modern twists that will remind and educate the 21st-century fan about the franchise's roots.

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza has backed teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to emerge as a "generational talent", urging people not to judge the 15-year-old after a difficult start to his international career.

Sooryavanshi endured a challenging debut T20I series in England, scoring 14, 13 and 15 in three appearances as India went down 0-4. The young opener also struggled against Jofra Archer's short-ball, falling to the England pacer twice during the series.

Despite the modest returns, Raza believes the youngster has the ability to become one of the game's brightest stars if his development is managed carefully.

"Vaibhav is a supremely talented cricketer. If a 15-year-old kid is playing international cricket, criticising him after just two or three matches isn't justified," Raza said on JioStar.

"I think Vaibhav has a lot of very good senior cricketers around him. If he is managed and handled well, I think Vaibhav could be a generational talent."

The India opener now returns to Harare, a venue that holds special memories for him after his remarkable 175 off 80 ****** against England in the Under-19 World Cup final in January helped India lift the ****** le.

With Sanju Samson unavailable for the Zimbabwe tour, Sooryavanshi is expected to receive another opportunity at the top of the order when the three-match T20I series gets underway on Thursday.

Raza said the teenager's rise through the ranks at such a young age is already an extraordinary achievement and stressed the importance of nurturing his talent.

"To see what he has done over the last year, what he has done for India Under-19, and the fact that he made his international debut at the same age, these are no small feats by any means.

"You don't get to hear such stories nowadays. Vaibhav is special. It will be important how he is managed and handled," he added.

Looking ahead to the series, Raza rejected suggestions that India would start as overwhelming favourites despite Zimbabwe facing the reigning T20 world champions.

"Both countries will have an equal chance in this series. But one thing I am very sure about is that because Zimbabwe has been playing very consistent and very entertaining cricket, I can say this for sure that this series will be very entertaining," Raza told Star Sports.

Zimbabwe head into the contest with confidence after a series of impressive results, including a memorable 23-run victory over Australia at the ICC T20 World Cup in Colombo in February, a result that played a key role in Australia's surprise group-stage exit. They have also registered wins over Sri Lanka and Bangladesh this year.

"As far as winning or losing is concerned, both countries have an equal chance to win the series," said Raza, who has represented Zimbabwe in 136 T20Is.

The experienced all-rounder acknowledged India's fearless batting approach, saying it can either overwhelm opponents or leave the door open if things do not go according to plan.

PHILADELPHIA — It was an MLB All-Star Game that will be remembered for the sheer pitching dominance, the offensive ineptitude, players holding sparklers in front of the dugout, fireworks shooting up in the air, kids riding bicycles on the field, a star player who nearly broke his hand, but missing that one magical moment.
Instead, it was seemingly harmless two-run, first-inning single by a former MVP participating in his first All-Star Game in seven years whose hit proved to be worthy of the All-Star MVP award.
New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger, who stood in front of his locker before the game reminiscing when he was the National League's MVP for the Los Angeles Dodgers at the age of 24, and six hours later Tuesday night was sitting behind a podium holding the MVP award after the American League's 4-0 victory.
Bellinger is the fourth Yankee to win the All-Star MVP award, joining Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Giancarlo Stanton, and also the first in MLB history to win Rookie of the Year, LCS MVP, All-Star MVP and a World Series ******* le.
"Pretty special,'' Bellinger, 31, said. "My first few years in the big leagues, I was here two of my first three years. I was, like, 'Oh, I'll be here every year. It took a long time to get back.'

French center back William Saliba was substituted during the first half of Les Bleus' FIFA World Cup semifinal against Spain after a persistent back problem ultimately took its toll.
The 25-year-old Saliba arrived at the World Cup carrying a back issue following an exhausting club season at ***** nal that culminated in a UEFA Champions League final loss to Paris Saint-Germain. Around the 29th minute against Spain, the French defender was routinely retreating when he abruptly lost his footing and dropped to the Dallas Stadium field, just minutes after Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring for La Roja from the penalty spot.
While French medical staff and teammates attended to him, the 25-year-old could be seen mouthing "My back is gone, my back is gone" in French. He was eventually replaced by Crystal Palace's 26-year-old defender Maxence Lacroix. The substitution followed fans disrupting a moment of silence before the France-Spain kickoff, as per The Mirror US.

Jordan Pickford says England are ready to topple Lionel Messi and Argentina and reach a first World Cup final since 1966.
The massive semi-final clash will see Messi take on the Three Lions for the first time. Much of the focus has been on whether England will be able to contain the eight-time Ballon D'Or winner, who continues to shine on the biggest stage at 39-years-old.
"Of course everyone will talk about Messi because he's one of the GOATs of the game," admitted Pickford. "But you can't look past the ability and the talent that we've got in the squad.
"Going forward, defensively, togetherness, we've got it all there and that's what we need to put on show on Wednesday.
"But we also can't just talk about Messi. They're a good side and they're reigning champions, so they're a good side.
