Please accept my apologies, hoddlers. But I have to do a second running hoddle this week.
And this is also my third post this summer on running water bottles. It's hot out there, and I bought the Nathan 14oz handheld soft flask to keep me hydrated and fresh on all my runs. I was excited to have something that would get lighter the more I would drink out of it.
After a couple months of running with this bottle, I would like to offer my review. The short answer is: I HATE IT! I HATE THIS WATER BOTTLE. I HATE LOOKING AT IT. I HATE DRINKING OUT OF IT.
Now, please see the reasons below for why I hate this stupid thing.
Sweat: The bottle claims to be moisture wicking, but the sweat actually clings to the fabric that wraps around the bottle itself. Firstly, the fabric makes your hand warmer than it should be. But the sweat becomes a serious problem because you should be washing the outer part after every single use (and by this I mean throwing it in the washing machine). Who has time to run the washing machine every single use for a bottle? You can go a run or two without doing this, but then you have to breath in the stench while you drink out of it.

WASHINGTON, Aug 4 (Reuters) - A top supervision examiner at the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau warned staff they would face "most unpleasant" consequences if they were too aggressive in their oversight of financial firms, according to an internal email reviewed by Reuters.
The threat, which Reuters is reporting for the ‌first time, was emailed on May 13 by Chief Examiner Fatima Batie to many of the agency's mid-level supervision staff as they were preparing to resume inspections of financial firms ‌following a long hiatus, according to the email and two people familiar with the matter.
Critics say the message amounts to a threat to CFPB staff that would likely make them think twice about how they interact with companies they oversee.

Aug. 5—When Ambrose Marsh first joined the Eastern Washington football team, he pretty well knew that he wasn't going to play much that first year.
He wasn't alone. Running back Kevin Allen III, quarterback Jake Schakel, wide receiver Bode Gardner, offensive lineman Gavin Allen, to name just a few Eagles players, found themselves all in the same position in the fall of 2024: redshirting and playing a lot on the scout team.
"The coaches would try to throw us in," Marsh, now a redshirt sophomore cornerback, said at EWU practice on Tuesday. "But they knew we weren't really playing and they were trying to develop us."
All of those aforementioned players filled key roles for the Eagles in 2025 and are being counted on to step up again this season.
But unlike that class, the current freshmen at Eastern Washington and elsewhere no longer need to redshirt; under a new NCAA Division I policy, they can play right away.

A lot has happened since September, when National Women's Soccer League commissioner Jessica Berman said she intended to stay with the league.
In November, the NWSL announced her three-year contract extension, keeping Berman in the role through the 2028 season. Before the ink on her contract was dry, the league introduced the High Impact Player rule, in part, to keep Trinity Rodman, one of its most marketable players, stateside. It welcomed two new franchises, Boston Legacy and Denver Summit, to play in March, postponed potential calendar-flip discussions until 2030, launched a new footwear exposure policy and most recently terminated its short-lived streaming agreement with Victory+.
Through the first 15 weeks of the season, NWSL matches averaged 11,174 fans, the second-highest attendance average in league history — behind the 2024 season, which finished with an average of 11,249 spectators.
Expansion clubs in particular have helped fuel those numbers. Denver opened its inaugural season before more than 63,000 spectators, while Boston attracted approximately 30,000 for its debut. Gotham FC hosted more than 42,000 fans for its match at Citi Field, a one-off game against the Washington Spirit at the home of the New York Mets.
Berman, however, is more interested in median attendance as a sign that a "rising tide is lifting all boats."

The spring brought plenty of exciting developments to the football field for the Oregon Ducks. Evan Stewart made his return. Dante Moore launched his Heisman campaign. Koi Perich and other transfers took the field at Autzen Stadium.
The hype train that really took off, however, was along the defensive line. No, not because of the returning veterans, but rather some of the depth that has been developing in the shadows for the past few seasons.
Aydin Breland and Matt Johnson took over the spring game, combining for five sacks and wreaking havoc in the backfield all day long. While spring game statistics should be taken with a grain of salt, it showed that the pieces are starting to fall into place for the young defensive linemen.
Breland has only added to his "tool bag" this offseason, finding new ways to be effective as a pass rusher, while anchoring down against the run. Playing behind first NFL draft picks A'Mauri Washington and Bear Alexander provides a clear example for Breland to follow, but the spring served as a solid reminder for what the former four-star recruit is capable of.
"I should be as confident in myself as I should be," Breland said at Oregon's media day. "I feel like my ability is definitely there. (The spring was) a big confidence booster."

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport.
It has been a long wait for Diggs, who was released by the Patriots back in March, but the former four-time Pro Bowler is returning to his old stomping grounds in Maryland.
Diggs signed with the Patriots last year and helped turn a losing franchise into a 14-3 team with the kind of swagger that hadn't been seen since Tom Brady was in New England. Granted, so many others had a lot to do with the turnaround, but Diggs brought an unwavering confidence with him that seeped through to the foundation of the organization.
"We all we got, we all we need," Diggs said in a huddle before the Patriots' Week 5 upset win over the Buffalo Bills last year.
That phrase carried the Patriots through the season, the playoffs and ultimately to the Super Bowl. Fans had hoped Diggs would return if the team decided to move on from Kayshon Boutte. But instead, it will go down in the history books as a one-and-done run for the ages.

NEW YORK, Aug 4 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's call on the Federal Reserve to expand a facility that lends cash to official foreign accounts could add to the firepower available to help **** an bolster its currency but could unleash other risks, such as tempting the market to test the resolve of Washington ‌and Tokyo.
For starters, it's unclear that the Fed will expand or eliminate the cap on its Foreign and International Monetary Authorities repo facility, which would require agreement by a majority ‌of the U.S. central bank's 12-member Federal Open Market Committee. The facility allows foreign authorities to access up to $60 billion in short-term funds in exchange for U.S. Treasuries as collateral, though it was never designed for this specific use.
The Fed declined to comment about any response to Bessent's request, which came in a social media posting on Sunday when he confirmed that Treasury had undertaken a rare joint intervention to buy yen with **** an's Ministry of Finance on Friday. The yen intervention came after the **** anese currency had sunk to 40-year lows against the dollar in recent weeks, setting off alarm bells in Tokyo and Washington.
"The FIMA Repo Facility is an important backstop," Bessent wrote in his posting on X. "We would encourage it to be upsized in the coming months."

On Wednesday night, the Philadelphia Phillies looked to secure the series win against the Washington Nationals, following their 5-0 dismantling of their National League East rivals on Tuesday night. The Phillies would look towards their rookie pitcher, Andrew Painter, to secure the win against Washington.
Painter would struggle out of the gate, allowing a single run in the top of the first inning, which is the latest in what has been a tough run in his last five Major League appearances, allowing the opposing team to score in each of those outings. But similarly to his previous outing against the Baltimore Orioles, once Philadelphia's rookie got through the first frame, he found his footing on the mound.
Just as things were looking up for the 23-year-old, the Phillies would take him out after only four innings of work, with the team reporting that they were doing so due to tightness in his left hamstring. Entering the fifth inning of the match, Don Mattingly would look towards reliever Tim Mayza to take over for the rookie.
When all was said and done for Painter, he would end the night with four innings on the rubber, totaling 63 pitches, allowing three hits, a single earned run, as well as fanning four batters in the process. Given the lower-than-usual run tally, Painter's ERA managed to drop from 6.72 to 6.48 over the four frames he appeared in.

A loaded 2028 class in the state of Arizona has national appeal with suitors for the top prospects spanning the country.
It is a defensive-heavy group, especially with the top three recruits in the state, but there is plenty of offensive firepower in the state.
Here is a look at some of the top recruits in the Grand Canyon State and how their recruitments are lining up.
–Goodyear (Ariz.) Desert Edge edge Jalanie George is the highest-rated defensive prospect in the 2028 class by Rivals. In May, George named a top six of, alphabetically, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Washington. He plans to visit Auburn when they host Florida on September 19 and he's working on finalizing a visit to Ohio State. Two of his teammates are committed to Washington, 2027 quarterback Blake Roskopf and receiver Zerek Sidney and he said he wants to get to Husky Stadium this fall and Oklahoma is also likely to get him to visit with his committed teammate Mikyal Davis. In June, he camped at Miami and also made a multi-day visit to Florida and said he hit it off with head coach Jon Sumrall. He plans to trim his list once more this fall and hopes to have a decision in January at the Navy All-American Bowl.
–Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton cornerback Keaton Fields maintains he's completely wide open and won't even hint at schools standing out. With nearly 30 offers, Fields was able to visit Notre Dame, Penn State and Texas A&M and he's working on plans for game day visits, with a few games being considered but nothing locked in. Arizona State offered him in June as part of the Golden Ticket push, and his father played for the Sun Devils, and he said they were one of three schools recruiting him the hardest along with Texas A&M, which has had major success in the state the last two years, as well as USC, where his teammate, Roye Oliver is committed.

The high school girls' golf season has teed off. Batesville was the first local program to start the season.
The Lady Bulldogs traveled to the 15-team Bloomington South Invitational at Stone Crest Golf Course. Batesville posted a team score of 337 to place fourth overall.
Center Grove won the team ******* le with a 301 followed by Castle 306, Floyd Central 324, Batesville 337, New Albany 350, Bedford North Lawrence 350, Washington 366, Southport 379, Bloomington South 381, Seymour 391, Mt. Vernon 396, Evansville Memorial 413, Columbus East 417, Madison 419 and Clay City 479.
Batesville sophomore Stella Maple carded an even-par round of 71 to place second individually.
Alexis Gallagher was next for Batesville with 78. Grace Saner finished with 92. Adelyne Koehne had a 96 and Makenna Moore completed her round with 118.

When Saudi Arabia pulled funding for LIV Golf, it looked certain to signal the death knell of the renegade golf tour. But on Wednesday morning, it appeared that CEO Scott O'Neill had pulled a rabbit out of the hat when he announced that the tour had reached an agreement with an investor to keep the tour alive.
LIV has been plagued by stories around its uncertain future. One event has already been canceled, and although not official, the team championship event in Michigan looks like it fall at any moment. The PGA Tour and DP World Tour struck a deal with the Asian Tour to take away LIV's secondary series and feeder system that kept several of its stars active through the year. And there are reports of layoffs being imminent or already happening.
In the midst of it all, O'Neill and LIV have presented the image of a tour that will somehow find a way to survive being cast away as a bored plaything of Saudi sportswashing billions. And that looked to be the case when LIV Golf announced a new "lead investor" after meetings at Trump Bedminster ahead of their tournament there this week. It was also reported that a new-look 2027 LIV season would consist of ten events split between the US and international venues and that players would take equity stakes in the league.
While that certainly sounds like good news for LIV Golf, some immediate questions came to mind. Who exactly is the "lead investor" and why wouldn't LIV name who it was? Would ten tournaments be enough to keep stars on board? And is equity being offered because LIV no longer has the money to actually pay out their massive nine figure contracts without the Saudi Arabian government?
Well, as it turns out, there may be a reason why the seemingly triumphant announcement from LIV Golf was so ambiguous.

Few aspects of the Denver Broncos training camp top the risers and fallers.
Everyone knows the players who have their spots on the roster scribbled in ink. But it's the players who are fighting for a spot or clawing their way up the depth chart that creates the best storylines. That's especially true for rookies.
After Broncos practice on Wednesday, Sean Payton was asked if there has been a pleasant surprise at this point.
"Fair question. I think the young runner, you don't feel a rookie with (running back) Jonah (Coleman). He's playing. It's been harder with some of the linemen because we haven't been in pads in fairness to them. Then a couple of these young linebackers, we're getting to see them move around, make the calls. There's a lot to that position, a lot of it is key and diagnose. That's been good."
The fact that Payton singled out Coleman is no doubt a positive sign (thanks, John Madden). When Denver selected the running back out of Washington in the fourth round, the pick was widely celebrated. Adding his running style and abilities to this offense gives the running back room another element and a different running style.

Second seed Elena Rybakina, third seed Jessica Pegula and fourth-seeded Coco Gauff advanced to the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto on Wednesday.
Australian Open champion Rybakina of Kazakhstan began her hardcourt run ahead of the US Open by outlasting Australian Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 after two hours and 33 minutes.
World number two Rybakina began the match by hitting six consecutive winners and finished with 58 winners, 15 of them acers, and 58 unforced errors, 16 of them double faults.
Rybakina hit back-to-back double faults to drop the second set and three double faults while serving for the match before advancing to next face 28th-seeded American Ann Li, who eliminated Canadian wildcard Kayla Cross 7-6 (7/2), 6-3.
Pegula, who lost Monday in a rain-hit Washington final, was also extended to three sets before advancing with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Poland's Magdalena Frech in two hours and three minutes.

Wayne Newton Post 346 received a forfeit baseball victory Wednesday morning in the American Legion Great Lakes Regional and will play for the first time at 4 p.m. Thursday in a winners' bracket game.
Now 35-5, Post 346 will play the winner of Wednesday's first-round game between Washington (Mo.) and Owensboro (Ky.). Post 346 is 4-0 against those teams, going 3-0 against Washington and beating Owensboro in the championship game of the John Hayes Invitational.
"But all of them have been really close games," coach Jason Fields cautioned.
Coach Fields has another situation to deal with too. Injuries and college commitments have cost him four players for the rest of the tournament, leaving him with 13 players (10 of whom have pitched this summer).
Terre Haute was expecting to play Valparaiso Post 94, the team that beat it 1-0 in the state championship last week, but a protest was filed against Valparaiso when the eight coaches convened Tuesday night.

FIRST ON FOX: GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed's campaign has collected more than $115,000 from individuals who work for or have held leadership roles with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which has been designated a terrorist organization by the United Arab Emirates and formally designated or labeled as such in Florida and Texas.
A Fox News Digital review found that El-Sayed, who has made getting "money out of politics" a central campaign rallying cry, has accepted donations from at least 41 individuals who either work for CAIR, formerly worked for CAIR, or have served in leadership positions with the organization.
The donor list includes several of CAIR's highest-ranking officials, including national Board Chair Manal Fakhoury, national Board Treasurer Eyas Abdeen, national Vice Chair Emad Sabbah, and CAIR-Michigan board member Jukaku Tayeb, El-Sayed's father-in-law.
Tayeb has been one of the largest financial backers of the super PAC supporting El-Sayed's campaign and is also part of the founding committee of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), a group linked to Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood funding, Washington Free Beacon first reported.

The Pac-12 and Mountain West conferences called a truce in their legal dispute over the former "poaching" member institutions from the latter.
A settlement between the rival leagues was reached and announced Tuesday, with terms not disclosed.
The Mountain West pursued legal action in 2024 after the Pac-12 announced it would add Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Utah State as member institutions beginning with the 2026-27 academic year.
Published reports said the Mountain West wanted up to $55 million in total penalties for the poaching, as the conferences at the time had a football scheduling agreement to help the only remaining members of the old Pac-12, Oregon State and Washington State.
Their agreement required the Pac-12 to pay escalating exit fees for each Mountain West school it wanted to add. The Pac-12 sued, calling it an anti-competitive practice, and the Mountain West countered by saying the Pac-12 understood the terms of the contract it had agreed to and was trying to evade the fees.

The Washington Commanders added a big-name veteran to the receiving corps with the signing of WR Stefon Diggs to a one-year, $12 million contract on Wednesday. The move comes as NFL teams progress through the first full week of training camps — with the first preseason game on Thursday between the Panthers and Cardinals.

Adding Diggs gives new OC David Blough a player who can play that Z-receiver role or work out of the slot, per Allen. Hindsight may be 20/20 but this move makes a lot of sense.

The NWSL on Wednesday revealed the schedule footprint for its 2027 season, which will feature a seven-week summer break for the Women's World Cup and a February start, the earliest in the league's history.
The regular season will begin on 11 February with a match hosted by Angel City in Los Angeles, three days before Super Bowl LXI is played in the same city. The annual Challenge Cup, which pits the reigning champion against the Shield winner, will be played on 6 February at a location to be determined.

Each team will play a 30-game schedule. The break will cover the entirety of the World Cup, which runs from 24 June to 25 July in Brazil. The regular season concludes with a Decision Day on 31 October, with playoffs in the first two weekends of November and the championship on 20 November.
During the 2023 Women's World Cup, the NWSL paused regular season play for five weeks but continued playing the Challenge Cup, at the time an in-season tournament. In the three years since, the league has expanded from 12 teams to 16 and increased its overall regular season match calendar from 132 to 240.

To start us off, I'm looking at some of the factors that likely aren't being discussed by the national media in their early previews of Washington. Today we'll focus on the positives and some of the reasons why the Huskies may surprise in 2026.
Hidden Returning Starters
Preseason magazines love to look at returning starters as a metric for how much returning experience a team has. That shouldn't be a surprise. Most positions have somewhere between 65-90% of their snaps come from one player so having that starter come back is essential to keeping up continuity.

Did you know it's been five seasons since Virginia Tech quarterbacks completed more than 60% of their passes?
The defense retains four of its top six tacklers and there's not much of a scheme turnover with former head coach Brent Pry staying on as the coordinator. The schedule is manageable too. The Hokies should go undefeated in September before a home game against Pitt and a cross-country trip to Cal.

The new college football coaches poll has been released, with the Spartans receiving no love in the preseason rankings.
The official preseason US LBM Coaches Poll was released on Tuesday, and to no surprise, Michigan State was not included in the poll. The Spartans failed to receive a single vote in the preseason poll put out by the coaches voters.
A number of the opponents on the Spartans' schedule were included, though, in the preseason poll. Four of the Spartans' 12 opponents were included in the preseason poll: Oregon (No. 2), Notre Dame (No. 5), Michigan (No. 16) and Washington (No. 19).
Michigan State will open the season on September 4 against Toledo. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.

Every year, various media outlets provide their version of specific rankings. Defensive, offensive, positional rankings, power rankings, etc. The Athletic's Mike Sando ranks veteran quarterbacks into tiers every year with help from various NFL executives and coaches. Rookies are excluded as they haven't played a snap in the NFL.
This year's panel consisted of eight general managers, five ******* istant GMs, five former GMs and three other executives, plus nine head coaches, 10 defensive coordinators, five offensive coordinators, two offensive ******* istants, one defensive ******* istant, and two coaches that specialize in ******* ytics and game management for a grand total of 21 executives and 29 coaches.
Last year, Washington Commanders' quarterback Jayden Daniels was ranked as a Tier 2 quarterback, and despite playing in only seven games in 2025, he remains a second-tier quarterback. The panel voted, and Sando ranked the quarterbacks by average vote.
Tier 1 criteria: Carries his team each week, the team wins because of him, expertly handles pure-passing situations, and has no real holes in his game. This category included Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Matt Stafford, and Joe Burrow.
Tier 2 criteria: Carries his team sometimes, handles pure-passing situations in doses, or has other dimensions that elevate him above Tier 3, and has a hole or two in his game. This is where Daniels lands.

What happens at tight end, now?
A significant question that has arisen is the fact that starting tight end John Bates is out for at least a couple of weeks. What does this mean for the Washington run offense, and is there a tight end ready to be promoted if Bates' injury becomes an ongoing dilemma for the 2026 season?
This "could be" a major obstacle for the 2026 season if Bates does not fully heal before testing his injured/strained hamstring. No, Bates is not an above-average receiving tight end in the NFL. But he is certainly one of the better blocking tight ends in the NFL. For those old enough, think what Don Warren meant to Joe Gibbs and the Redskins offenses during his lengthy 14-year career in Washington (1979-92).
NFL **** yst Brian Baldinger has praised Bates' blocking more than a few times. Baldinger has even referred to Bates as, "the best blocking tight end in the NFL." The 'JBB' is the 'John Bates' Block,' as Baldinger has stated in his NFL film reviews. So, this injury to Bates could be a major headache if he does not heal and remain healthy this season. The Commanders need Bates. But what if they don't get a healthy Bates in 2026?
TE Ben Sinnott, plain and simple, MUST step up. Newly signed TE Chig Okonkwo this offseason is more of a hybrid tight end/receiver. He is not an in-the-trenches tight end like Bates. Zach Ertz was a very good receiving tight end, but not nearly the blocker Bates is. Sinnott is more physical than Ertz, but still far from a Bates, thus far after his two seasons.

The last time the Washington Huskies took the field for the Dawgs After Dark spring game, wide receiver Rashid Williams had the marquee moment.
Williams, a former four-star recruit in the 2023 class and projected starting receiver for coach Jedd Fisch this fall, hauled in a 45-yard deep shot from junior quarterback Demond Williams Jr. with just over three minutes in the first half for the first touchdown of the evening back on May 1.
"Huge couple of big plays from Rashid," Fisch said after the game. "Rashid's had a great spring. This is the first spring since we've been here that he's stayed healthy the whole spring. Then, obviously missing almost all of last season, to be able to have him come back and take on that leadership role and be able to make some of those plays tonight with Demond was fun to see."
"Obviously the big touchdown was great. And then, also the sideline toe-tap was pretty cool. It's been great to see Rashid step up and be the guy we know he's going to be all season."
When he arrived in Seattle in June 2023, the Pittsburg High School product had to wait behind the future NFL trio of Rome Odunze, Jalen McMillan and Ja'Lynn Polk—plus eventual starter turned draft pick Denzel Boston—before last season, when Williams was viewed as the next receiver to fill the void and potentially replicate Boston's production.

A former New Mexico State University basketball player is being sought by law enforcement after he failed to appear at his ******* ual ******* ault trial in Las Cruces while playing professional basketball overseas.
Judge Conrad Perea of New Mexico's Third Judicial District issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Deshawndre Washington after he was a no-show at his trial in connection with the alleged ******* ual ******* ault of former teammates and student managers during the 2022-2023 basketball season, the Las Cruces Sun News reported.
The trial was set to start with jury selection on Monday, Aug. 3, in Las Cruces.
Washington will be taken into custody on a "no hold bond" when he is found and taken into custody, a bench warrant states. If Washington is not arrested in Doña Ana County, law enforcement will extradite Washington to Las Cruces.
Perea issued a gag order preventing parties in the case or attorneys from speaking to the media.

Sydney Sweeney has spoken out over the devastation caused by the wildfires in her hometown of Spokane, Washington.
According to local authorities, the fires have consumed more than 8,000 acres across Spokane County, with three main blazes destroying more than 700 structures. No deaths or injuries have been reported.
Taking to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Sydney put a spotlight on the news, emphasising that around 65,000 people have been evacuated from their homes.
"Spokane has always been home to me. It's where I grew up, where my family still lives, and where so many of the people and places that shaped me are," she began. "The devastating fires have changed countless lives in ways that are hard to put into words. Thousands of families have lost their homes, their belongings, and places of business, including members of my own family. This devastation is something our community has never experienced on this scale."
The Euphoria actress went on to note that she is supporting organisations including Innovia Foundation, SpokAnimal, Second Harvest, and Watch Duty amid the emergency. She also shared a link to Baby2Baby, a nonprofit that provides essentials for families and children.
"Unlike larger cities that often receive an overwhelming amount of national attention and resources, Spokane doesn't have the same spotlight," the 28-year-old declared. "If you're looking for ways to help, these are four organizations I'm supporting that are on the ground right now helping this community that needs us."
