The Maryland Terrapins are coming off their first season under new head coach Buzz Williams, a season in which they finished 12-21 overall, 4-16 in the Big Ten Conference and missed the NCAA tournament for the third time in five years. As Williams is tasked with building up his program, Maryland landed their first recruit of the class of 2027 with a commitment from point guard Payton Jones, as per Joe Tipton of On3 and Rivals.
Payton Jones' commitment gives Maryland a top-60 recruit and one of the best guard prospects in the country. The Texas native will play his senior year in high school at Dynamic Prep while joining the Terrapins for the 2027-28 season.
For Jones, his budding relationship with the Maryland coaching staff was a big reason why he made the decision to commit.
