Luckily for the Steelers, Porter was active for the Cowboys' blowout loss to the Green Bay Packers, and Dallas' 2027 sixth-round pick is officially heading to Pittsburgh.

Porter was a solid contributor for Pittsburgh during his three years in the league, slowly cementing himself as one of the league's top man-coverage cornerbacks. Unfortunately, the Steelers and Porter couldn't strike a deal before the start of the regular season, the team's historically self-imposed deadline, which resulted in a huge disconnect between both sides.
After failing to suit up for the Steelers with a "back injury" early in the 2026 season, Porter gave the team no choice but to trade him to any willing suitor, which so happened to be the Cowboys. Porter, however, isn't expected to receive a long-term deal from Dallas at this time and will instead play out the final year of his rookie contract.

Trailing the Buccaneers 13-0, the Steelers called on Boswell to kick a 52-yard field goal, which he made with ease. This successful field goal was the 309th of his career and would tie legendary Steelers kicker Gary Anderson's record for the most field goals made in team history. New England signed wide receiver Chandler Brayboy and linebacker Xavier Holmes to the practice squad. The Patriots created the two openings by releasing safety Elliott Davison and running back Hassan Haskins. The team announced all four moves through its official website.
Haskins is the most experienced player involved in the transaction. The 26-year-old appeared in 44 regular-season games over four NFL seasons, including the last two with the Los Angeles Chargers.
New England signed Haskins on Aug. 12 and retained him on the practice squad after training camp. The former Michigan running back entered the NFL as a fourth-round selection by the Tennessee ****** ans in the 2022 NFL Draft. According to a new report from Jeff Risdon, Detroit has contacted the Pittsburgh Steelers about the veteran cornerback's availability, potentially turning weeks of speculation into something more tangible.
Risdon said he has been told from the Pittsburgh side that conversations between the teams have taken place.
"I can tell you that I know that the Lions have approached the Steelers," Risdon said on Monday. "I don't know how receptive the Steelers were. I don't know what the Lions offered, if anything. ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons' opening loss at Pittsburgh only added more uncertainty to the quarterback question that has persisted since the start of training camp.
Cooper Rush's performance in the Falcons' 20-13 loss to the Steelers on Sunday had some fans wondering why undrafted rookie Jack Strand wasn't given an opportunity and more fans asking when Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa will be ready to play. Rush threw two interceptions, including T.J. Watt's pick-6 in the fourth quarter. He completed 12 of 22 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown.
Rush was named the starter on Friday after Tagovailoa was ruled out with an oblique injury. Rush started despite having back spasms on Saturday. Coach Kevin Stefanski said Rush was close to full health, but the conservative game plan with an emphasis on short passes placed too much of a burden on running back Bijan Robinson.
Stefanski said Monday he had no update on Tagovailoa or on Penix, who did not play in the preseason as he continues his recovery from a torn ligament in his left knee that ended his 2025 season. Penix was cleared for full team drills late in training camp.
Both Tagovailoa and Penix were inactive against the Steelers, and it is not known if either will return for next Sunday's home opener against Carolina.

The Pittsburgh Steelers kicked off the 2026 NFL season with a victory over the Atlanta Falcons at home, 20-13. The close score is a reminder that any team can be beaten and shouldn't overlook any potential opponent. The Falcons started Cooper Rush at quarterback and gave the Steelers everything they could handle. The offense has things to clean up, but the Steelers' defense was on full display, including a massive performance from T.J. Watt.
Watt finished his season debut with four pressures, two sacks, two hurries, two tackles, and four defensive stops. PFF awarded Watt a 92.3 defensive grade, 81.4 run defense grade, 73.9 tackling grade, and a 90.8 pass rushing grade. Did I mention the pick-six? I didn't? Well, that's important too, since it was the deciding factor on Sunday.
Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen spoke to the media after the game and doesn't understand the criticisms tossed at Watt.
"I saw how they talk about him online," Queen said. "It's crazy how a guy can be dominant for so long, and then one year he gets hurt … and everybody tries to turn the page on him."
Queen isn't wrong. The hoopla of Myles Garrett being traded to the Los Angeles Rams following his record-breaking sack season and DPOY award has pushed Watt out of the conversation because of his injury in 2025. Sunday was a remarkable reminder that with Watt leading the stingy Steelers defense, the EDGE rusher is as good as anyone on any given Sunday.

Brothers T.J., J.J., and Derek have been through thick and thin, with all three charting a life in the NFL. They have now moved on to build their own little families, but the brotherly bond is as strong as ever. J.J. showed up to congratulate the youngest Watt, who will soon have a noisy household.
Pittsburgh Steelers' T.J. Watt and his wife, Dani, are expecting their second child together, they announced on Instagram. They shared a maternity photoshoot set in a field of purple flowers, along with their older daughter, Blakely.
"Let's Goooo!!!!!" J.J. commented.
The elder Watt had also honored his younger brother when the couple was expecting Marie. J.J. surprised his younger brother on-air with a custom No. 90 Steelers jersey that had "Dad" written across the back and handed that jersey before Pittsburgh's home opener.

When it rains, it pours.
In the literal sense, UCF waited more than an hour before taking the field as thunderstorms hovered over and rolled through Pittsburgh's Acrisure Stadium. In a figurative one, just about everything went wrong for the Knights' offense on a dreary day in Western Pennsylvania, resulting in a 10th consecutive road defeat.
The Knights mustered less than one yard per carry and went scoreless for nearly 58 minutes in a 12-7 loss to Pitt. Alonza Barnett III busted up the Panthers' shutout bid with a 19-yard pass to Waden Charles, the first touchdown of the sophomore receiver's college career.
UCF (1-1) was limited to 206 yards of offense, going 4 of 13 on third down and 0 for 3 on fourth down — including a final sack of backup quarterback Keyone Jenkins with 1:22 left in regulation. Barnett limped off the field with an apparent right leg injury following the previous play.
"I think that there's a lot we have to look at and reconsider," Knights coach Scott Frost said. "We've got to play better on offense. That starts with me and the offensive staff. I just didn't think we clicked.

The Atlanta Falcons' quarterback situation has somehow become even more complicated ahead of their Week 1 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The team announced on Saturday that quarterback Cooper Rush is dealing with back spasms. Despite the issue though, Rush remains on track to start against Pittsburgh.
Rush had already been pushed into the starting role after Tua Tagovailoa suffered an oblique injury during Thursday's practice and was ruled out for Week 1. Michael Penix Jr. is also unavailable as he continues his recovery from the torn ACL he suffered last season.
That leaves rookie Jack Strand as Atlanta's primary backup behind Rush. The undrafted quarterback has drawn plenty of interest from Falcons fans, with many hoping to eventually see what Strand can do in regular-season action. Rush remains the clear starter for now, but his back issues could make Strand's status worth monitoring throughout Sunday's game.
