Social media influencers have made owning a laundromat look like an easy way to make money, with videos showing buckets of quarters and stacks of cash rolling in. But some aspiring entrepreneurs who bought into the hype are finding out the hard way that these businesses are costly to maintain, and the income is anything but passive.
In a new report, The Wall Street Journal examined the growing popularity of laundromat ownership on social media, where videos of owners collecting cash have attracted millions of views. What gets far less attention are the expenses and day-to-day headaches that come with running one.

In the three decades since red carpets have become synonymous with Hollywood couture, celebrity stylists have outpaced fashion editors, models, moguls and, more recently, content creators as the true arbiters of the town's taste. No one else has the number of media impressions that top Hollywood stylists do, with many of them pulling in millions of followers. Of course, Beyoncé, Rihanna and Taylor Swift have 500 million-plus Instagram fans each, but much of the engagement is driven by what their stylists are putting on their backs.
That's why, as this year winds down, THR reached out to the many pros who've now achieved fame in their own right for dressing the most visible personages in the world. What did we learn? The newish Parisian design duo behind Matières Fécales — Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran — have captured stylists' hearts the most, while Matthieu Blazy's Chanel, Jonathan Anderson's Dior and Anthony Vaccarello's Saint Laurent also number among Hollywood's favorite designers. Feathers still are flying on red carpet fits for all genders. The sheer look continues to show off, but cutouts and two-piece looks are taking over the body-part wars. Lace, lingerie and leather are now completely red carpet-worthy. Slinky close fits and strong tailoring are forever. And so, apparently, is fashion's idolization of Zendaya. We could have easily included three or more of her looks, but to keep the list varied and fun, we chose only one top fit per actor or actress. The methodology behind the list included tabulating the top 10 looks chosen by 50-plus stylists, prioritizing by the number of votes each look received, and then, to break ties, bringing in rankings. The result: a realistic look at coming trends and which designers and designs rank the highest for Hollywood, by the world's top tastemakers.

LONDON (AP) — Mysterious cyberattacks on European supermarket fridges have sent officials around the continent scrambling to figure out the cold, hard facts.
Supermarkets in a number of European countries reported this week that their fridges and freezers warmed up after they were remotely taken over, resulting in tons of spoiled food at a total cost of millions of dollars (euros).
One Swedish supermarket said its fridges and freezers had been hacked and set to 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit).
It's a repeat of an earlier incident that struck refrigeration systems in hundreds of supermarkets and independent stores across France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Here's a closer look:

Tech billionaire Elon Musk joked on Wednesday about Republicans' defeat in US midterm elections after spending hundreds of millions of dollars to help the party.
Democrats seized control of the US Congress on Tuesday, capturing both the Senate and House of Representatives in a stunning rejection of President Donald Trump's political agenda.
"Guess my election-interfering **** e lasers didn't work this time," Musk said on X, including the shrug emoji.
Musk contributed nearly half a billion dollars to Republican political efforts, making him the largest individual contributor in a federal election cycle since unlimited election spending was allowed in 2010, according to campaign finance tracker OpenSecrets.
His donations have mostly gone to his Republican-leaning America PAC, as well as to the Republican Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) super PAC.

Yesterday, tens of millions of Americans made their voices heard by casting or mailing in their ballots. These votes have charted a new course for America, with Democrats taking firm control of the House of Representatives and the Senate, according to the **** ociated Press. Starting in early January, President Donald Trump will be working with a Democrat-led Congress.
This congressional shake-up is a big win for Democrats. But at the end of the day, there's an even bigger winner: Wall Street's major stock indexes -- the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI), S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC), and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) -- and investors.

President Trump has enjoyed a unified Republican government in the first two years of both of his nonconsecutive terms. In each case, Congress passed, and he signed into law, a major tax and spending bill. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) (signed December 2017) permanently lowered the peak marginal corporate income tax rate to 21%, fueling S&P 500 share buybacks, while the Big, Beautiful Bill (signed July 2025) made the personal income tax bracket reductions from the TCJA permanent.

Savannah Chrisley and her new beau, Jason Galanis, are already married, despite only announcing their engagement publicly earlier this week.
According to marriage records obtained by People, the 29-year-old reality star and the 56-year-old businessman tied the knot on Tuesday, July 14, at Cayman Islands Baptist Church. The marriage followed a year of dating and came just two days before Galanis' 56th birthday.
Earlier this week, Savannah announced she was pregnant and engaged, though she did not reveal she and Galanis were already married. On her Unlocked podcast, she shared how Galanis proposed with a massive oval-cut diamond ring while they vacationed in the Cayman Islands.
The Chrisley Knows Best alum did not reveal Galanis' name in her pregnancy announcement, referring to him as "J" in social media posts and as "Jason" on her podcast. However, Us Weekly later confirmed the mystery man as convicted fraudster Jason Galanis.
In 2020, Galanis was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for his part in "two multimillion-dollar fraud schemes," according to the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. In one of the schemes, Galanis was accused of defrauding investors, including the Oglala Sioux Native American tribe, out of tens of millions of dollars.

NFL fans are in a tizzy trying to figure out if CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson smacked Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen on the ******* after their on the field interview after the Bills win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6.
We can't see exactly where her tap landed because the camera shows us only the front of both of them. It is also worth noting that she is considerably shorter than he is so the slap may not have been intended for the ******* but landed there.
Regardless, it is an odd look on the same week that Charissa Thompson was kissed by Broncos Coach Sean Payton in a pregame exchange likely not intended for the camera and millions of eyes to see.

Sophia Bush
The dichotomous trap of women needing to achieve absolute, contradictory perfectionism rang loud and clear in America Ferrera's now iconic speech in the 2023 Barbie movie and it certainly continues to resonate with Sophia Bush, who has never shied from speaking about mental health challenges.
"I think there's a lot of reasons we're still having this conversation," says Bush, who currently stars in Hulu psychological thriller Count My Lies and Grey's Anatomy (ABC), and is attached to reprise her role as Brooke Davis in Netflix's One Tree Hill sequel series.
"First and foremost, society only functions at the level it does because of women's unrecognized and unpaid labor. So the world is not exactly motivated to shift things in our favor because people feel like it'll come at a cost," she says. "But now we understand because of the data around those things… that if you could snap your fingers and create pay equity across gender lines—everyone would be doing better if women were doing better."
Bush cites a litany of women's rights that have been or are being rolled back. "They overturned Roe. Christian nationalism is on the rise and they don't think women should vote," she says. She points to the SAVE (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility) Act and the tens of millions of married women in the U.S. the legislation would block from voting.

National Republicans have spent months trying to rescue Ken Paxton. He's complicating that effort.
Tensions are brewing with some Republicans after POLITICO published Paxton's closed-door comments that "D.C." Republicans were largely controlling his race.
"He is welcome to raise his own money and say whatever he wants," said one Republican involved in the Paxton rescue effort, who like others in this article was granted anonymity to speak candidly. "In fact, if he did that, he'd probably be winning right now and we wouldn't need to spend all this money."
"This just seems like Paxton preparing to blame others for what might be one of the most embarrassing defeats in modern political history," said Carlos Curbelo, a former Florida GOP representative.
Senate Republicans and top operatives didn't want to be in this position in the first place. Many had warned that the Trump effort to unseat Sen. John Cornyn and back Paxton in the primary would cost Republicans hundreds of millions to drag Paxton across the finish line in the general election. Cornyn and Senate GOP groups spent millions of dollars on ads during the primary attacking Paxton over his series of scandals and warning he was a flawed candidate.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A day after President Donald Trump said he would start paying for controversial taxpayer-funded ads with a campaign account, there's no sign he plans to refund the millions of federal dollars already spent on them.
Nearly $12 million worth of ads have already aired, according to AdImpact, as part of the $20 million the Department of Homeland Security tapped for the contract.
But Trump's plan to pay for the ads with MAGA Inc. doesn't mean there's any reimbursement coming, said a White House official who was not authorized to talk publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Trump said the ads were "really good" and "promotion for the country, done by many presidents before." Asked whether he'd repay the funds already spent, he said, "We'll decide."
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer slammed Trump for not committing to reimbursement and said he believes the president's plan for covering future costs represents illegal coordination with his super PAC.

The $200 million in payments dwarfs previous amounts disclosed in the case.
The former CIA officer arrested after authorities discovered roughly $40 million worth of gold bars in his Virginia home pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday to a single count of wire fraud, admitting he defrauded the U.S. government out of nearly $200 million for his personal benefit.
David Rush was previously described by prosecutors as a "master manipulator" who used his clandestine position to amass millions worth of gold bars and luxury watches -. though the government revealed in Tuesday's hearing the extent of his alleged deception far exceeded what was previously known to the public.
The nearly $200 million in payments to Rush, which dwarfs previous amounts disclosed as part of his case, will likely only further draw public and congressional scrutiny to the intelligence community to provide more transparency regarding its methods in doling out taxpayer dollars to agents and the oversight that follows such exchanges.
The case has drawn widespread intrigue and raised major questions regarding the intelligence community's management in overseeing the secretive systems that grant officials like Rush the ability to amass high-value ****** ets tied to their work.

McDonald's is facing a federal lawsuit that alleges its AI-enhanced pricing tool violates antitrust laws because it shares nonpublic data with franchisees who might be competing in the same market.
The lawsuit, which was filed Friday in Illinois, said McDonald's pricing tool uses artificial intelligence to collect data that competing franchises wouldn't normally share, like store-level sales. The Chicago-based burger giant has said it makes the tool available to U.S. franchisees to help them set prices at their individual restaurants.
The lawsuit also blames the pricing system for raising McDonald's U.S. prices.
"McDonald's has built and for years deployed its own information-sharing pricing platform, which draws on data from its millions of daily transactions to set menu prices across thousands of U.S. restaurants," the lawsuit states. "The result is algorithmic price-fixing aimed at customers who are already stretched thin."
McDonald's said Tuesday that the lawsuit is "filled with inaccuracies" and it would vigorously defend itself.

A federal judge has granted final approval to AT&T's $177 million settlement resolving lawsuits over two 2024 data breaches that exposed personal information belonging to millions of customers.
U.S. District Judge Sidney Fitzwater in Dallas approved the settlement Oct. 2, along with $59 million in attorneys' fees for lawyers who negotiated the deal, according to Reuters. The settlement faced dozens of objections, including arguments that the amount was inadequate compared to a $350 million settlement in separate litigation involving T-Mobile.
For AT&T customers who filed valid claims, the amount they receive depends on which data breach affected them, what information was exposed and whether they can document financial losses. Most customers receiving the tiered cash payments are expected to get far less than the settlement's advertised maximums.
Customers could receive between about $6.50 and $40 through the tiered payment system, according to court documents. Here's what to know.
The settlement has two funds totaling $177 million: $149 million for customers affected by the first data incident, known as AT&T 1, and $28 million for customers affected by the second incident, known as AT&T 2.

Giving out checks to Americans has emerged as one of President Trump's major messages in the final weeks of the campaign season.
But Americans are skeptical, as multiple polls show voters harbor serious doubts about whether Trump will deliver and whether the cost would hurt the economy.
The president is nevertheless determined to escalate the issue with 29 days until the midterm elections. This past weekend, he mentioned checks at every campaign stop and made a new pledge to send $90 to millions of seniors enrolled in Medicare Part B.
The payment is intended to offset October Medicare premiums and will be deposited this month, but Trump emphasized that it will come in the form of cash.
"Over 20 million seniors on Medicare will soon be receiving a deposit of nearly $100 directly into their bank accounts," he announced on Truth Social. "You'll get your money almost immediately."

Social Security is the retirement income lifeline for millions of Americans and garners its share of confusing headlines. From the full retirement age and cost-of-living adjustment to the rules for claiming benefits while still working, here is what's expected to change in 2027.
A common concern among those planning for retirement is an ever-increasing Social Security "full retirement age."
Geoffrey Schmidt, a certified public accountant and founder of Holy Schmidt!, a retirement education resource, told Yahoo Finance that many seniors ****** ume the full retirement age keeps climbing.
"It doesn't. It has finished its long, slow climb to 67. Anyone born in 1960 or later has a full retirement age of exactly 67, and that group reaches it in 2027," Schmidt said. "Under current law, it does not go any higher. So if you've been worried they'll keep moving the goalposts on you, at least on the retirement age, that increase is over."

Republicans are swamping House and Senate races with an unprecedented flood of late ad spending as the party tests whether hundreds of millions of dollars can buy it some reprieve from the eroding political environment that’s threatening longtime Republican states and districts.
Since the start of September, Republicans have made more than $700 million worth of new advertising bookings in congressional races alone, according to an NBC News ******* ysis of data from AdImpact, a political ad-tracking firm. That’s new money on top of what had already been committed to those races in ad reservations made over the summer.
By comparison, Democrats booked more than $430 million in new ad reservations across those races last month.
The disparity is greatest in the battle for the Senate majority, where almost 7 of every 10 newly booked advertising dollars are coming from Republicans. That’s led by a massive, late investment in the Senate race in Texas, where Democrat James Talarico is threatening a longtime Republican seat and the GOP has poured in almost $150 million in new ad dollars to back up its nominee, Ken Paxton.
The gap is smaller in the House, where a bit less than 6 in 10 of those new ad dollars are coming from the GOP.

With so many guidelines around saving for retirement — best practices, where to put your savings, and how much to save — it can be difficult to know which path to take.
The advice usually goes something like this: Save a certain percentage of your income throughout your career, and your retirement fund could be somewhere in the millions. T. Rowe Price and Fidelity both recommend that retirement savers put away at least 15% of their income, while Vanguard recommends 12% to 15%.
This all sounds great in theory, but if you're earning an average salary, it could feel like a reach. However, experts say it may not be.
Last year on Instagram, multimillionaire investor and entrepreneur Kevin O'Leary shared the advice he gives his children to keep them on track toward a healthy nest egg.

The most powerful force in investing is time. It's not necessarily about picking the best stocks or timing the market correctly; it's about time in the market. Over time, the stock market, as represented by the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC), has always gone up in the long term.
The longer you are in the market, the greater your wealth will grow. This is due to compounding, where in later years your gains start generating gains of their own. While early growth may seem slow, it's the late-stage growth that will eventually turn even a small investment into millions of dollars.

Blake Lively is struggling with Taylor Swift and Dakota Johnson's increasingly public friendship amid her estrangement from the pop superstar, according to gossip columnist Rob Shuter.
Sources told Shuter's Naughty But Nice Substack on Monday, October 5, that that Lively, 39, fears she has been replaced in Swift's inner circle as the singer, 36, continues to publicly show her support for Johnson — a situation that has become "torture" for her.
"Blake was devastated watching it," a source told Shuter of Swift's surprise appearance during Johnson's Saturday Night Live monologue on October 3. "Taylor wasn't just supporting Dakota privately. She walked onto that stage and showed millions of people how close they are. Blake couldn't help wondering: Does Taylor know exactly how much this will hurt me?"
Swift and Johnson's friendship is not new. The Verity star, 37, recently confirmed that she and Swift have "been friends for a really long time" and are "very close."

Ari Kytsya has never pretended that making adult content is all big checks, flexible hours, and glamorous trips. Long before the allegations surrounding the so-called "Cornell 7" case reignited a national conversation about consent, exploitation, and women's safety, the TikTok personality warned that adult creators can face harassment, privacy violations, predatory contracts, and frightening encounters with people who refuse to let their online relationships remain online.
Kytsya has not publicly connected her experiences to the Cornell case. However, her warnings offer another look into the risks women say they face when money, **** , and entitlement collide.
ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGA
Kytsya, who has built an audience of millions across TikTok and other social media platforms, has been unusually open about the realities of working in the adult-content industry. In a video highlighted by Yahoo Entertainment, the OF creator pushed back against the idea that selling explicit content offers an easy path to wealth. "This job is not easy money," she declared, arguing that she works just as hard, or harder, than she did in her previous jobs.
Kytsya also claimed that some creators lie about how much they earn. According to her, those making significant amounts of money generally entered the industry with an established audience rather than building a profitable account from nothing. Even successful creators cannot depend on a consistent paycheck, she explained. One month's income can be extremely high, then fall dramatically the next.

BURBANK, CALIFORNIA − Dhar Mann doesn't consider other digital content creators his competition.
The filmmaker behind Dhar Mann Studios, whose inspirational videos reach hundreds of millions of viewers each week, has his sights set on something bigger: Hollywood.
"I actually see other major studios as the competition," Mann tells USA TODAY during a tour of his Burbank, California, studios. "I don't really see a difference between any of the big studios and what they've built and the trajectory that we're on."
It's an ambitious outlook for a company that started nearly eight years ago in Mann's downtown LA apartment, where he filmed videos on iPhones.
Today, Dhar Mann Studios has more than 170 million followers across social media and a team of about 250 people. The content, drawing nearly 300 million views a week, has expanded beyond social platforms through partnerships with Samsung, Fox and Disney, including a recently announced 20-episode order from Disney.

Two young women sit on a bed, with an LGBTQ+ flag in the background, with one urging the other to try a new experience.

She leads the hesitant woman's hand to mark her ballot for Hilton rather than Democrat Xavier Becerra, the front-runner in the race, and says, "Now lick it," referring to the mail ballot envelope.
Fellow Republicans as well as several Democrats denounced Hilton over the messaging.

A newlywed groom is in less hot water than you'd think after saying the name of his new bride's sister at the altar by mistake.
On Sunday, September 20, TikTok user emmagraceshay posted a cringe-worthy video from her wedding day in which her now-husband is vowing to take his new bride in sickness and in health, only to make a pretty legendary gaffe.
During the moment, he calls his wife "Emily Grace Pumfrey," forcing her to quickly correct him because her name is actually Emma. While it's not exactly a difficult slip-up to go from "Emma" to "Emily," even in a high-stakes moment like a wedding, the caption of the video reveals the most shocking part of the whole ordeal.
"Plot twist: It's my sisters name. Still not over being called Emily at the altar," Emma wrote.
Since posting the video, it has gained millions of views and plenty of opinions from people who watched it, with many saying they would have stopped the entire wedding and dumped the man right then and there. Meanwhile, others note the good humor with which the bride took the blunder, as she's seen in the video laughing as she corrects her fiancé.

The Treasury Department said that over 60 million children have been automatically enrolled in Trump Accounts, according to guidance filed with the Federal Register.
"Millions of children have already enrolled in Trump Accounts. With automatic enrollment, over 60 million more eligible children now have an account ready to be claimed," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement.
The idea behind Trump Accounts is to give children a head start on building wealth. The accounts are a new type of tax-deferred individual retirement account for children. Any eligible child under 18 with a valid Social Security number can open an account, while U.S. citizens born between 2025 and 2028 may also qualify for a one-time $1,000 contribution from the government.
