The Sox are casting a wide net in their search for playoff-caliber rotation reinforcements, with the hope of getting back to the postseason for the first time since 2021.

During Thursday night's 5-4 win for the Atlanta Braves over the Washington Nationals, Austin Riley spent the entirety of that contest watching from the dugout as Mauricio Dubón came down from the outfield to play third base. Walt Weiss stated in Thursday's pregame press conference that "the best way to slow the game down is to have [Riley] watch it from the bench."
Hopefully the game has slowed down enough for Riley after he watched a full one from the bench, as he's now back in the starting lineup and playing third base for Friday's contest against the Nationals.

Jersey's Evan Campbell has finished 12th in the 2026 Commonwealth Games decathlon after being disqualified from the 110m hurdles.
The 25-year-old clipped the first barrier and fell before rolling under the second hurdle in the opening event of day two.
He then ducked under a third barrier after getting back to his feet and was disqualified for not going over each hurdle.
Campbell finished in a time of more than 24 seconds, but was given a score of 0 points for the event, but was allowed to carry on competing in the day's final four disciplines.
Campbell has been the first-ever Jersey man to compete in a Commonwealth Games decathlon and had been 10th out of the 12 competitors at the end of the opening day.

In terms of years for the Penn State staff, athletic director Pat Kraft has had a pretty rough one. Whether it be the decision to fire James Franklin and the subsequent fallout or overseeing renovations to Beaver Stadium, he hasn't had much time to breathe. However, fans will be happy to know that in new head coach Matt Campbell, he has found somebody he can trust.
"I think he is the absolute perfect person at the perfect time for Penn State football," Kraft said during Big Ten media days. The road to get him to Happy Valley wasn't necessarily easy, but the fact that Kraft is giving Campbell a vote of confidence after a highly rigorous coaching process is very telling. Not only did Kraft need someone who could usher in a new era of Penn State football, but he also needed someone willing to buy in and build a solid culture with a new-look squad.
Campbell got to work right away in doing so by bringing in a whopping 55 transfers. An even more impressive feat was retaining 55 players despite the change. While some may say that bringing in a lot of players may take time to gel, it's also a testament to what Campbell is already doing in Happy Valley to foster a sense of community.

The Pirates have recalled right-handed pitcher Antwone Kelly from Triple-A Indianapolis and optioned left-hander Hunter Barco ahead of Friday's game against the Reds in Cincinnati.

The last place Cincinnati Reds are limping towards the August 3rd trade deadline at just 51-57, still buried in the busy National League Wild Card standings 5.5 games back of the final spot. Indianapolis Colts' running back Jonathan Taylor has expressed his desire to remain with the Colts as he enters the final year of his contract. On Friday, owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon echoed similar sentiments.

The Panthers announced that Brazzell has been placed on injured reserve as a result of the knee injury he suffered at practice on Wednesday.
