After earning a spot on the UFC's roster with a split-decision win on Dana White's Contender Series in August 2022, Hailey Cowan is calling it a career at the age of 34. Cowan suffered a TKO loss at the hands of Nina Milošević during UFC Belgrade.
The KO loss came on the strength of a nasty straight right hand to the body. Cowan immediately stopped and nearly folded like a lawn chair. I don't recall ever seeing a fighter take a loss like Cowan and calling it a career immediately afterward.
As it is, Cowan's loss on Saturday was her fourth in a row and they have all come by way of stoppage.

Shrewsbury Town boss Gavin Cowan has asked the League Two club's supporters to be optimistic about the coming campaign.
They have had little to cheer in the past two seasons, other than fighting off a second successive relegation in the last campaign.
The Shrews picked up 27 points from 19 games after Cowan's appointment in January to preserve their EFL status.
And the former Brackley boss now believes they can afford to harbour hope after a "really positive pre-season".
"I'm asking them to be optimistic, I'm not trying to give any false promises, but there's a lot of hope out there when you see the types of players that we've got," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

POTOMAC PARK — Walker Smith struck out 13 in five-plus strong innings, and the Cresaptown Eagles defeated Frostburg, 6-2, in a Mountain League Baseball Junior Division semifinal game on Wednesday at Memorial Field.
Smith held Frostburg to an unearned run on one hit in 5 2/3 frames, and Smith and Grayson Long led the Eagles' lineup with two hits each.
Cory Vizza drove in two runs, and Carson Vonstein scored twice.
Frostburg's Scott Cowan and Bobby Seifarth drove in the team's two runs. Landon Smith was dealt the loss on the mound.
The Cresaptown Eagles (16-3) face Flintstone (14-1) in the Junior Division **** le game on Friday at Memorial Field.

On the eve of the holiday observing the July 4, 1776 Declaration of Independence, the tricked-out "Freedom 250" mobile museum trucks have fanned out, from ‌Washington State on the West Coast to North Carolina on the East Coast. The trucks offer what backers call a year-long patriotic salute to the American Revolution and the nation it birthed.
Freedom 250 spokesperson Rachel Reisner said ‌the organization "is sparking a unifying movement across all 50 states that celebrates the American spirit and showcases our nation at its best."
But the trucks have sparked some backlash. In Massachusetts in June, local media reported that some citizens in one town objected to a planned Freedom Truck visit, leading to its cancellation. Critics say the trucks and other celebrations give an overly religious version of American history and gloss over problems such as slavery and racial injustice.

New details have emerged about past allegations involving a Florida woman's dogs that police say mauled a neighbor to death.
And in a bizarre twist, a criminal investigation has been opened after three dogs were found dead at the travel trailer where mauling victim Jodi Cowan was living at the time of the fatal attack.
Deputies responded to a call on June 11 about a bad smell at the residence, said Tod Goodyear, public information officer of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.
The "case is ongoing awaiting an examination of the dogs to determine the cause of death," Goodyear said. "Charges would depend on the outcome of the necropsies and the cause of death. The residence was under the control of the boyfriend of Cowan."

FARMLAND — For the first time in five years, the Golden Bears got to go swimming.
Monroe Central served as the host of an IHSAA boys golf sectional on Monday, June 8, welcoming Cowan, Delta, Jay County, Muncie Central, Randolph Southern, Union City, Union (Modoc), Wapahani, Wes-Del, Winchester Community and Yorktown to Hickory Hills Golf Club. After over six hours of play, the Golden Bears emerged as the sectional champions on their home course with a score of 317.
As is Monroe Central tradition, the team celebrated its first sectional championship since 2021 by jumping into the pond next to hole 3. For senior Cohen West, it was a moment he had waited for his whole high school career.
"It's awesome," West said. "Haven't been able to get it done the past couple of years, but I knew that this was going to be the year. Every day, we practice out here, so it's just nice to get out here, and I think we all had confidence in each other to go out and do it."
While West is the No. 1 player for the Golden Bears, it was junior Maddox Taylor at the No. 2 spot who took home low medalist honors. Taylor shot a 1-over-par 71, while West placed second with a 75, but Taylor was more thrilled that the team got it done for West's last match at Hickory Hills as a Golden Bear golfer.

The LPGA contests the Tour's only official team event of the year, the Dow Championship, at Midland Country Club in Midland, Michigan beginning on June 11.
The tournament which began in 2019 features 72 two-player teams in the field competing for a piece of the $3.3 million purse in the Great Lakes State. One of those teams includes now, two-time major winner, Nelly Korda after her epic U.S. Women's Open win last weekend at Riviera Country Club. She'll be teamed up with 30-year-old Olivia Cowan of Germany.
The stroke-play tournament format will alternate between foursomes (alternate shot) in Rounds 1 and 3 and fourballs (better ball) in Rounds 2 and 4. The team with the lowest score at the end of the 72 hole-tournament will be named the winner of the Dow Championship.
There is a 36-hole cut to the low 33 teams and ties. In the event of a playoff, teams will face off in a hole-by-hole, alternate shot format.
Defending champs Jin Hee Im and Somi Lee are back in the field looking to repeat at Midland.
