Russian ice hockey teams can compete in international tournaments again, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled on Friday, meaning the men's side are set to be eligible for the World Championship in Germany in May 2027.
Under the ruling, Russia could also take part in the women's world championship in Canada in November 2027, as well as in junior world championships.
The court upheld an appeal by the Russian Ice Hockey Federation against the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and lifted, with immediate effect, its decision to exclude Russian teams from the 2026-2027 season.
Since the end of February 2022, Russia has been banned by the federation from all international tournaments and world championships because of its war against Ukraine.
But the International Olympic Committee lifted a ban on the Russian Olympic Committee in July, opening the door for Russian teams to gradually return to the sporting fold.
