New York Giants fullback Patrick Ricard left little doubt about the identity head coach John Harbaugh is installing in East Rutherford.
Appearing on NFL Network's Inside Training Camp Live, the veteran lead blocker said the message was clear from the moment Harbaugh recruited him.
"You know, when Harbaugh was recruiting me to come up here, he told me that he's building a bully in New York, and I think that's exactly what we're trying to do," Ricard said. "We're trying to be the bullies in this area. And if you come to MetLife Stadium, you're gonna get bullied, and that's exactly what we want to be."
Ricard spent his entire previous career with the Baltimore Ravens under Harbaugh before signing with the Giants this offseason. The coach's pitch about constructing a physical, imposing roster proved decisive. That same emphasis on toughness has been visible throughout training camp, where Ricard and other newcomers have set a more violent tone in the trenches and on the edges.
The fullback stressed that the goal extends beyond mere toughness. The Giants aim to field physical teams that play harder than anyone else and seek to dominate every game.

Interestingly, despite being our most targeted area to strengthen in the summer market, the right side of the pitch again yielded the most rewards as we built our attacks. Le Bris once again played Trai Hume in a pseudo-wing role on the right, as waves of attacks developed between Hume himself, Habib Diarra, Brian Brobbey and the ever-excellent Nordi Mukiele.
It was Nordi, of course, who claimed the only goal of the match, slamming a low shot past the (quite poor) Wrexham goalkeeper on 34 minutes. It finished off a wonderful move involving three of the four aforementioned players, as Hume neatly found Brobbey inside the box, who in turn played Mukiele through on goal with a sublime first touch.
It was a good demonstration of how we like to build attacks through fluid positioning and overlaps, even without the out-and-out right winger we so desperately want to recruit. It was also a timely reminder of Nordi's exceptional quality at right-back, perhaps further cementing that as his primary position for the upcoming season.
Contributing to that excellent play on the right were the individual performances of Habib Diarra and Brian Brobbey. I thought both gave fantastic accounts of themselves and demonstrated just how influential they can be, albeit in very different ways.
Brobbey's hold-up play and tenacity to bully defenders were on full display as he essentially tortured Dominic Hyam for the duration of his appearance, earning the defender a yellow card and somehow having a blatant foul – and potential penalty – waved away. The **** ist for Nordi was a lovely bonus to cap off an excellent performance.

The Giants have been pushed around for too long on both sides of the ball. They've emphasized building a team that refuses to get shoved without consequence between the lines, in back page headlines and on banners pulled by planes over MetLife Stadium.
That was going to take making over a locker room last year that needed to not only help establish a shift in expectations and results, but also do what is needed to change perspective and performance.
Enter John Harbaugh, who wants to build the Giants into a bully in NFC East, and for that to happen, the tone will be set in camp at the Greenbrier in West Virginia when they hit the practice fields beginning Wednesday.
Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo represented that change in attitude last season in a Thursday night upset of the Eagles, breaking free of the old ***** oned-down Giants way that had gotten stale with all the losing around here for more than a decade.

BOSTON (AP) — More than two dozen states on Thursday sued the Trump administration for requiring them to comply with election and immigration conditions to receive billions of dollars in federal funding for disasters.
The lawsuit, filed in Rhode Island and challenging Federal Emergency Management Agency and Department of Homeland Security policies, argued that the administration is requiring states to change their elections systems and help DHS with immigration enforcement. The conditions would also allow DHS to terminate grants at any time and for any reason.
"Once again, the Trump Administration is threatening to jeopardize public safety by unlawfully withholding billions in critical funding and once again, they won't get away with it," Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said. "This Administration is using the safety of Americans as collateral by attempting to bully the states into relinquishing their constitutional right to enact policies and laws that best serve their residents."
The states argue putting conditions on congressionally appropriated funding violates the Administrative Procedure Act and the U.S. Constitution's spending clause. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The lawsuit is one of scores that have challenged the Trump administration over its repeated effort to browbeat mostly Democratic states into complying with its priorities to get billions of dollars in federal funding. The strategy has been used on everything from education funding to domestic violence grants to highway funding.

WASHINGTON, July 17 (Reuters) - The sole Democrat on the Federal Communications Commission on Friday criticized President Donald Trump's call ‌for Disney-owned ABC and Comcast unit NBC to lose their ‌broadcast licenses because they refused to air his speech.
During a nearly half-hour prime-time speech on Thursday, the Republican president revived many of his longstanding claims that U.S. elections are unreliable. In the remarks, Trump said networks that did not air his speech should have their station licenses revoked.
FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez, who serves ‌on the commission along ⁠with two Republicans, on Friday described Trump's call as "ridiculous" because the broadcasters made "the same editorial decisions they've made under ⁠presidents of both parties."
"Those editorial decisions are protected by the First Amendment, and the FCC has no authority to punish a station for refusing to air a blatantly political speech," she said in a statement. "This is a naked ‌attempt to bully broadcasters, and the FCC should have no part in it."

There's little debate the Denver Broncos' offensive line as a whole is one of the top units in the NFL. As individuals, there are some players who are standing out for their excellence on their own.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler recently surveyed NFL executives, coaches and scouts to rank the top 10 interior offensive linemen in the NFL, and guard Quinn Meinerz landed inside the top five at No. 4 overall.
Meinerz came in at No. 8 in 2025, and Fowler noted his rise to the top echelon of the interior linemen. "Meinerz belongs in the elite category after another consistent season as the anchor of Denver's interior attack," Fowler wrote for ESPN. "His 75.7% run block win rate ranks seventh among guards. And he has become a more complete player in recent years."
Meinerz has been a force in the middle, a bully on the Broncos' No. 1-rated offensive line. In 2025, Meinerz was named to the Pro Bowl (he did not attend), and he received a first-team All-Pro nod. Meinerz was also a strong and worthy finalist for the inaugural NFL Protector of the Year award, given to the league's best offensive lineman.
Ahead of the 2024 season, Meinerz signed a contract that will keep him in Denver through 2028. He will surely be a battering ram on the Broncos' line for years to come.

In 2026 it appears to be large personnel packages that’s captured the hearts and minds of modern coordinators. It’s a trend that’s been building over the last few seasons and one that’s likely to peak to new levels this year.
The Dallas Cowboys are not one of such teams. Brian Schottenheimer’s offense is rich in receiver talent and has been leaning on 11 personnel to a very significant degree. In 2025 Dallas ranked second in the league in 11 personnel EPA/play, deploying this three receiver set 66.43 percent of the time (per Sumer Sports). In 2026 that’s a number that’s only expected to increase given the emergence of Ryan Flournoy at WR3.
Swimming against the stream isn’t always advisable, but if it can be used to create mismatches, it may prove to be the ultimate hack. To explain, let’s first dive into the current trend…
Led by Sean McVey and his Los Angeles Rams offense, 12 and 13 personnel are all the rage. In an effort to combat the NFL’s heavy usage of nickel defense, two and three tight end packages are being used to create mismatches. When facing it, defenses must decide whether they want to stick with their normal nickel group that features an extra cornerback, or if they want to pivot to a base defense that matches up better by swapping the cornerback for a third linebacker.
Offenses are forcing defenses to pick their own poison: if they keep the cornerback on the field, offenses can bully them into submission by running the ball behind their larger personnel. If defenses swap in the linebacker, offenses can target the rarely used ‘backer by passing downfield. They are essentially passing against run defenses and running against pass defenses.

Harry Kane is an intelligent presser and with the likes of Jude Bellingham can exert the necessary pressure to separate the Argentine backline from its midfield.
Scaloni's system squeezes the life out of their opponents in the middle of the pitch. Playing with no real wingers and using midfielders instead, they bully the opposition midfield with short pass and move sequences. With a lot of passing and movement, Rodrigo de Paul, Leandro Paredes and co draw in more and more numbers from the opposition to stop them. Following this, they utilize their technical finesse to play their way out after drawing in multiple markers. This disrupts structure and creates pockets in the wider areas. So, going narrower or centrally plays directly into their strengths and is to be avoided as much as possible.

CNN's Abby Phillip called out Republican outrage over "attacks" against Caitlin Clark as "seemingly" being fueled by the simple fact that Clark is white.
On Saturday's Table for Five, Phillip and her panelists discussed Republican lawmakers sending a letter to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, in which they demanded protection for Clark from possible "racially motivated" attacks.
Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX) shared the letter on X, which was signed by a total of 11 Republican lawmakers.
"I led my colleagues in demanding accountability from WNBA Commissioner Engelbert after MULTIPLE attacks against Caitlin Clark, a player who is transforming women's sports and inspiring a new generation of young girls to participate in athletics," he wrote. "I'm putting the league on notice that if it keeps letting the violent targeting slide, they could find themselves facing a DOJ and EEOC crackdown for violating federal civil rights law."
Sports broadcaster Cari Champion dismissed the lawmakers and accused them of being ignorant of the game, calling the "bullying" on the court a "rite of passage:"

The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway," CENTCOM had noted in a post on X.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — The international governing body for chess on Friday suspended former world champion Vladimir Kramnik for at least a year after he leveled unproven allegations of cheating against fellow players, including Daniel Naroditsky, who died last year at age 29.
Kramnik accused Naroditsky of cheating last year and continued to share suspicions on social media. Naroditsky, a prodigious chess player and American grandmaster who helped usher in the game's online boom with educational YouTube videos and livestreams, denied the allegations.
Kramnik said in an email to The ***** ociated Press that he plans to appeal the suspension.
"I am absolutely confident that this unlawful verdict will ultimately be overturned, and I intend to pursue all necessary instances to the very end in order to restore justice and, in particular, my reputation," Kramnik said in a social media post.
The chess federation said Kramnik publicly alleged cheating without "adequate evidentiary support," violating its rules against cyber bullying.

Kentucky Basketball is still in the hunt for one of the highest-ranked big men in the class of 2027.
Darius Wabbington, a 6-foot-11 center from Phoenix, Arizona, has cut his list to six schools. Kentucky joins Arizona, Indiana, Louisville, North Carolina, and Texas on his list.
Wabbington is ranked 14th overall in the 2027 class, according to Rivals, and is the highest-ranked center in the class.
Wabbington told Joe Tipton from On3 that he has scheduled three visits this fall with Louisville, Arizona, and Texas. He also told Tipton that relationships with the coaching staff and style of play will be two of the biggest factors in his recruitment.
“I’ll probably just be looking at my relationship with the coaches, and then the style of play. Those are the two main things that I want to see with a school. I really like the five-out style, but I also like playing with two bigs. You know, just bully ball. Where you’re bigger than everybody, and you’re just going to show everybody that you’re bigger than them, and just make them stop it. Those are the two styles I really like to see.”

She further added, referring to her Scottish real surname, "It is very much like '[A] Boy Named Sue,' you know what I mean? Like, it's character building." Moreover, she also stated that the kids need to have a "devastating" name for them to be remembered and get bullied for. The host asked her if she was ever bullied for her surname. Wilde responded that she learned the lesson early to laugh at the jokes made at her without getting upset over it. She clarified that this doesn't mean that she approves of bullying but believed that even she found her surname funny.
She mentioned that she doesn't know whether living with such a unique surname was harder for her or her younger brother, Charlie. Shepard asked if life has now gotten better after years. To this, she responded, "I don't know, have we? Rodriguez (20-5) and Belal Muhammad are teammates at Valle Flow Striking in Bensenville, Illinois. Muhammad recently claimed that “El Pantera” is moving up to lightweight from featherweight.

Rafael Fiziev knocked out Manuel Torres via a highlight-reel spinning back kick in front of his home fans at UFC Baku last weekend. Muhammad subsequently suggested a matchup between Fiziev and Rodriguez. When a fan noted that Rodriguez is a featherweight, Muhammad Said that the Mexican is moving up to lightweight. Christina Ricci's ex-husband, James Heerdegen, has been denied an emergency custody request for their 11-year-old son. The couple, who separated in 2020, shared legal custody of their son. But following an alleged incident on a plane earlier this month, Heerdegen filed an ex parte request for an order.
According to Page Six, court documents state that the actress's ex-husband requested an emergency custody hearing after their 11-year-old son texted him, alleging that Ricci drank alcohol during a June 16 flight to Canada. The child reportedly used "certain words" to describe how she consumed the alcohol and her subsequent behavior.
However, two days later, Freddie told his counsel that he had "overreacted" in the messages and insisted he had "no fear" of remaining in her primary physical custody. The documents also note that the child later said his description of his mother's drinking and behavior afterward was "not as he had described it to his father."
The Addams Family star requested that the messages sent to his father be sealed to protect Freddie's privacy, citing past bullying from former classmates. With Freddie preparing to start at a new school, Ricci argued that any further bullying "may jeopardize" her son's mental health.
A judge approved the request to seal the documents and also denied Heerdegen's emergency custody request on June 23.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Gov. Mike DeWine on Tuesday used his bully pulpit to call for an end to the death penalty in Ohio.
The 79-year-old Republican cited his expertise on the issue as a former county prosecutor, member of both chambers of Congress and Ohio attorney general, as well as his seven years as governor.
But DeWine's support for a policy change is far from **** ured to make waves, even in a state controlled by his own party. That is because DeWine is more moderate than many younger Republicans in the state, whose political aspirations rely on endorsements from President Donald Trump, a staunch death penalty supporter.

DeWine was first elected to public office in 1976, when he became prosecuting attorney in Greene County, where he grew up. He still lives in the historic home there where he and his wife, who had eight children, hosted a summer ice cream social each year to encourage and celebrate GOP candidates and officeholders. The event ended its 50-year run just last weekend.
