It's been roughly three months since the New York Knicks became champions of the basketball world. For the first time in 53 years, and after long stretches of misery, the franchise finally reached the pinnacle of success, but the journey was not easy.
In fact, throughout the playoffs, the Knicks found themselves down big on several occasions, only to mount amazing comebacks that defined their run. Recently, Knicks swingman Mikal Bridges spoke about the comebacks and the conditions that made it possible to survive overwhelming odds.
"The Cavs series, that Game 1, being down 22 in the 4th. Last year in the playoffs, being down a lot," said Bridges in a chat with Men's Health. "We had opportunities where we had been in the same situations and succeeded. It's having that faith of being here before. Obviously, it's different being in the Finals than any other playoff series, but it's still just another game. It's just having that belief and taking it one possession at a time; we've been here before, we've done it before. Ain't gonna get it back in one possession, still a lot of time left. A lot of us have been in the league for a long time, and we know in this day and age, with the fast pace and a lot of threes, that even down 27 points at halftime, you still have a lot of time. And being at home, having the crowd behind your back, it's gonna put pressure on them."
The Knicks went 53-29 in the 2025-26 season, and most critics had them a tier below the Cavaliers, Celtics, and Pistons in the East. In the playoffs, however, the Knicks dominated the field, going 16-3 in an impressive performance. Along the way, they faced fierce resistance, overcoming a 22-point deficit in the opening game against the Cavaliers.
Their unlikeliest win, however, was in the Finals. In Game 4 of the series, the Knicks went down by as much as 29 points, but somehow came back and won (107-106) off a buzzer-beater from OG Anunoby. It seemed impossible at the time, but the Knicks always felt that victory was within reach.

Yeah, I don't go live like ever, I'm not good at that. But now I talked to some people, taught me how to go live. So next time it won't go like that.

The NBA is starting off with a bang on opening night on Oct. 20 when LeBron James makes his debut with the Philadelphia 76ers against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
It will be a celebration in New York City as the Knicks will be raising their NBA championship banner before the nationally televised game.
As you could imagine, the amount of attention and interest on that game will be massive as the new-look 76ers, who also added Jaylen Brown this summer, visit their Atlantic Division rivals. It will be the Knicks' first home game since Game 4 of the NBA Finals, which ended with OG Anunoby's winning tip-in with 1.2 seconds to complete a 29-point comeback.
According to Gametime, the current get-in price for a ticket to see the Sixers-Knicks game is $2,127. That's a vast difference compared to the two other games on the opening day of the 2026-27 NBA season. The Boston Celtics at Detroit Pistons lists a $195 get-in price, while the Oklahoma City Thunder at San Antonio Spurs matchup is currently $450.

The planned launch of a bespoke European NBA league has the potential to take basketball in the United Kingdom to the "next level", says the New York Knicks' OG Anunoby.

Masai Ujiri has a proven eye for wings. The Mavericks' team president has spent his career identifying and developing players 6-foot-6 and above, a skill that has followed him from Toronto to Dallas.
In Toronto, he helped the team find Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, Scottie Barnes and Collin Murray-Boyles. Marshall has signed a three-year, $52.2 million contract extension, sources told DLLS Sports' Marc Stein on Sunday. The deal follows a three-year, $27 million free agent contract the Mavericks gave Marshall in 2024.
The extension will start at $18.2 million in 2027-28 and decline over the following two seasons to $17.3 million in 2028-29 and $16.7 million in 2029-30, sources told Stein.

The offseason is nearly down for the New York Knicks and they're close to fully realizing their roster, but with just NBA roster spot remaining for New York, how the team manages that roster spot will be crucial.
One glaring need for the Knicks before the season begins is to land another center to replace Ariel Hukporti, who signed with the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason. Without Hukporti, the Knicks don't have a solid third option at center to back up Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond, so addressing that deficit in their roster is critical.
The same could be said about the power forward slot. Beyond OG Anunoby, the Knicks can rely on Towns to slot in at power forward, running a double big setup that relies on Towns' ability to ****** e the floor with his shooting ability, but having more support at the four would serve the Knicks well.
The free agent market may be limited, and the Knicks' desire to stay under the second apron should be considered, so with all of that in mind, there are three free agents that the Knicks could reasonably target to full out their roster in time for the pursuit of another championship.
Mason Plumlee has bounced around the NBA the last few seasons, playing with the Charlotte Hornets on a minimum contract during the 2024-25 season before being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, then subsequently waived by the Thunder. After bouncing around the league, Landry Shamet seems to have found a long-term home with the New York Knicks. Before the 2025-26 season, Shamet was in limbo because he was competing for a contract. When Malcolm Brogdon abruptly retired, Shamet got his opportunity to play for the Knicks.
Thankfully for Shamet, head coach Mike Brown valued his impact as a shooter and a positive defender. He played a crucial role as the season progressed, eventually becoming one of the first players off the bench during their championship run as the team's resident knockdown shooter.
Shamet might have only averaged six points per game in the entirety of the Playoffs, but he was a key member of the rotation. He shone mostly in the Knicks' Eastern Conference Finals series against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was tremendous for the Knicks, as he shot at a historic 91.7% clip, making 11 of his 12 three-point attempts against Cleveland.
He was still quite impactful in the NBA Finals, but most of the spotlight went to Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and OG Anunoby. Despite that, Shamet knew how to play his role, which has now earned him a spot on the team for years to come.

Now that Giannis Antetokounmpo is with the Miami Heat, the expectations are high for them. He is now part of a strong frontcourt with Bam Adebayo, which makes them quite possibly the best partnership of its kind in the NBA.
This puts a spotlight on the rest of the team, which is pretty underwhelming when compared to the supporting cast of star duos in the league. The New York Knicks and the Oklahoma City Thunder immediately come to mind, and this Heat team has a supporting cast that is far from the league's top teams.
The Eastern Conference is much better than advertised, especially with how the Knicks dominated on their way to a championship. Since they won the **** le, other teams in the East have made strides with their roster construction. The Philadelphia 76ers look like legitimate threats now, but the same could be said about the Heat.
Unfortunately, they are a bit top-heavy with Adebayo and Antetokounmpo leading the way. They have a decent supporting cast, but they do not have the ceiling that other teams have. The likes of Andrew Wiggins and Davion Mitchell is alright, but they don't hold a candle to players like OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges today.

The Knicks’ offseason has been relatively quiet thus far. They traded their first-round selection in the NBA Draft, instead ending up picking twice in the second.
Free agency has been similar so far. New York has seen one major departure and made one notable addition — both at center. Meanwhile, it brought back some role players from its championship-winning team.
The good news is the Knicks’ entire starting five — Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges — is under contract for the upcoming season.

Plus you can’t forget about those pesky Indiana Pacers: Tyrese Haliburton will be healthy, and the Pacers will be right back in the mix after Haliburton’s torn Achilles cost them Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Tim Legler has a pretty good explanation for why ESPN’s NBA Finals broadcast didn’t give De’Aaron Fox’s crucial late-game decision the scrutiny it deserved at the time: the pandemonium that followed.
Legler was a guest on the Awful Announcing Podcast last week and addressed the criticism that the ESPN/ABC broadcast crew of Mike Breen, Richard Jefferson, and Legler barely examined Fox’s decision to go for a breakaway layup rather than hold the ball and force a foul in the closing seconds of Game 4 of the Knicks-Spurs series. The layup was blocked by OG Anunoby, helping set the stage for New York’s stunning comeback victory, and the debate over whether Fox should have taken the foul instead immediately consumed the collective sports media, with First Take, Get Up, and social media all piling on the next morning.
Legler acknowledged the play deserved more attention and said he wished the broadcast had gotten a comment in. But he was also clear about what made that difficult. The moment Fox’s layup was blocked, the Knicks were already racing the other direction, and the broadcast had to immediately reckon with whether the Spurs could take a game-winning shot.
“You got a chance potentially to be calling a game-winning shot right there going the other direction,” Legler told host Brandon Contes. “So it’s like a lot was going on in that moment.”
Then came a bizarre sequence in which Jose Alvarado was fouled at half court with both feet in the front court and the ball in the back court, which had viewers convinced it was a backcourt violation.

Hart gave Towns his flowers while Hart explained the "sacrifices" that Towns made during the Knicks' ******* le run.
"I want to highlight you because of the way you played," Hart said. "I want you to give us a glimpse into your mindset. But for me, as a teammate, obviously, you -- All-NBA, All-Star, carried Minnesota ... and your mentality and willingness to sacrifice, to sit there and be like, 'Aight, the offense is more so going to run through JB at a certain point,' but then we went to you as the hub and you really dictated everything, getting JB involved, getting OG (Anunoby) and Mikal (Bridges) involved, and you sacrificed your own points, touches, shots. So, one, I want to holler at you for that. But also, two, I want you to talk about your mindset during that time because I feel like you're a big part of the reason why that playoff run changed when we were down 2-1."

The New York Knicks are NBA Champions this season, mainly because of one signature play, forward OG Anunoby's miraculous tip-in, which gave the Knicks a historic comeback win in Game 4 of the NBA Finals last week.

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Knicks’ victory tour following their first NBA championship since 1973 made another stop Wednesday night when Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart threw out ceremonial first pitches at Yankee Stadium.
Before the Yankees played the Chicago White Sox, Brunson and Hart were met with a standing ovation and loud cheers from fans as they took the field to a montage of highlights from the ******* le run.
Standing in front of the mound and wearing Yankees pinstripes, Brunson made his toss to backup catcher J.C. Escarra while Hart threw to utilityman Max Schuemann.
“Oh, I think’s it been awesome,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “What a fun team to get behind and just the story of that team and how it’s kind of come together over the last couple of years and just a lot of grit, a lot of mental fortitude and to see the fanbase and then some galvanized around that club has been a lot of fun to witness."
Brunson and Hart were honored after the Knicks made appearances on NBC’s “The Today Show” and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on Monday. Brunson and Hart along with starters Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby also appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Monday.

San Antonio Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson laid it plain in his closing press conference: “We weren’t ready to win an NBA championship.”
The New York Knicks certainly were. They took every first quarter, first-half punch the Spurs threw and responded. Jalen Brunson got the buckets he needed; Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby filled gaps on both ends of the floor. Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges were timely; Jose Alvarado and Landry Shamet consistently tilted the energy, one drive, 3-pointer, screen, defensive stop at a time. Mitchell Robinson created extra chances, as he always does.

There was a resolve with this group; an unrelenting belief that they could overcome anything thrown their way. There was a tactical comfort from Knicks head coach Mike Brown that screamed, “We may not have the answers right now, but we have a bunch of ******* ons available to find them.”

The NBA Finals has been a bizarre spectacle of close games thus far. In each of these contests, the road team has emerged victorious despite the boos.
Game 3 saw San Antonio win by 4 points, with a final score of 115-111. Victor Wembanyama was once again the leading scorer for San Antonio, with 32 points alongside 8 rebounds, 6 **** ists and 3 blocks. OG Anunoby's 28 points were his highest since the first round of the playoffs.
For Game 4, the Spurs can take control if they find a way to limit the Knicks' fast-break offense. New York had 15 fast-break points in Game 3, while San Antonio had just five. Conversely, the Knicks will need to limit their turnovers, as San Antonio scored 14 more points off turnovers in Game 3.

The San Antonio Spurs lost Game 2 of the NBA Finals in the closing moments, and much of the blame was placed on Victor Wembanyama, who committed two costly mistakes that led to the 105-104 loss. He turned the ball over to New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson and then sent him to the free-throw line with a foul.
Brunson made one of three free throws, giving his team the lead and ultimately securing the victory.
It was a different story in Game 3, as the Spurs won 115-111 to cut the series deficit to 2-1. Wembanyama played an outstanding game, finishing with 32 points. The Spurs’ late-game execution was also much improved, allowing them to protect their lead through heads-up play.
Wembanyama praised two teammates who played key roles in that effort. Stephon Castle hit a clutch three-pointer with less than two minutes remaining to extend the Spurs’ lead to seven. However, the Knicks responded when Jalen Brunson knocked down a three-pointer to trim the deficit to three with 33 seconds left.
De’Aaron Fox then scored on a two-pointer to restore a five-point cushion, but OG Anunoby made it a one-possession game again, 113-111, with nine seconds remaining.
