The Detroit Lions continue to scan the free-agent market as training camp rolls along, and one name from their latest workout group certainly stands out.
According to the NFL transaction wire, Detroit brought eight players to Allen Park for tryouts, headlined by former Dallas Cowboys All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs. The group also included quarterbacks Jack Plummer and Jake Haener, receivers Julian Hicks and Ray-Ray McCloud, and linebackers Amari Burney, Milo Eifler and Amen Ogbongbemiga.
Ogbongbemiga has since signed with Detroit, while the Lions are also adding veteran quarterback Josh Dobbs following Teddy Bridgewater's retirement.
Diggs, 27, is easily the most accomplished player Detroit evaluated.
The former second-round pick exploded in 2021 when he led the NFL with 11 interceptions, returned two for touchdowns and earned First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. He followed that with another Pro Bowl season in 2022.

The deal follows Robinson's standout production, including leading the NFL in scrimmage yards during the 2025 season. After signing Drake London and Kyle Pitts to long-term extensions earlier this offseason, Robinson's record-setting deal cements the three former first-round picks as the foundation of the Falcons offense.
Atlanta knows Robinson can lead the franchise and has decided to finish what it started building three years ago.

Christopher Bell has become one of the most consistent drivers in NASCAR over the second half of the 2026 season. The only thing missing has been a trip back to Victory Lane.
Bell added another runner-up finish Sunday at Iowa Speedway, placing second behind Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Ty Gibbs after spending much of the afternoon among the fastest cars on track. While the result extended an unusual statistical streak, it also underscored what Bell has accomplished while continuing to race with a fractured left wrist suffered earlier this summer.
Bell's second-place finish marked his seventh runner-up result of the 2026 Cup Series season and his fourth in the last five races.
That consistency puts him in rare company.
According to NASCAR statistics, Bell is the first driver to record four runner-up finishes over a five-race span since Kyle Larson accomplished the feat across the end of the 2016 season and the beginning of 2017.

Milwaukee Brewers Jacob Misiorowski became the second-fastest pitcher to ever reach 200 strikeouts in a season on Sunday.
The Brewers ace managed the feat in 129 1/3 innings this season. He entered Sunday's start against the Minnesota Twins with 195 strikeouts on the season.
Misiorowski struck out Twins outfielder Alan Roden for his fifth strikeout of the game, officially reaching 200 for the season. While he is the second-fastest to the mark all-time, he obliterated the Milwaukee franchise record.
Corbin Burnes struck out 200 batters in 145 2/3 innings in 2021. With this new record, Misiorowski is the ninth Brewers pitcher to ever tally 200 strikeouts in a single season.
While it is impressive that Misiorowski accomplished the feat in 129 1/3 innings, that gets him second place all-time. The top spot belongs to Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider, who struck out 200 hitters in 123 1/3 innings in 2023. Strider finished his 2023 campaign with 281 total strikeouts.

The Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame is somewhere many dream of seeing their name, but for Brandon Webb and Rajon Rondo, it is now a reality. Both players were instrumental in the success of their Wildcats team while competing in the Commonwealth, and each went on to do major things at the next level.
Rondo is among the most well-known Kentucky basketball players, and his son, Peirre, can hoop as well. Hopefully he follows in his father's footsteps and heads to play college basketball in Lexington. For Rajon, the 6-foot-1 point guard was the 21st overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, after averaging 11.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and an SEC-high 4.9 ******* ists per game in his sophomore season. He then went on to have an illustrious career with the Boston Celtics.
"The 49th KSHOF class is comprised of Lexington native Tyson Gay, a world-class sprinter who still holds the American record in the 100-meter dash with the third-fastest time ever; Lebanon native Lisa Mattingly, one of the most highly accomplished basketball officials ever at both the collegiate and professional levels; Louisville native Rajon Rondo, a brilliant point guard at Kentucky and four-time NBA All-Star and two-time NBA champion; and Ashland native Brandon Webb, a fearsome pitcher in high school, college and the pros and National League Cy Young Award winner," the release from UK Athletics said.
While Webb wasn't as well-known during his time at Kentucky, he was an absolute stud in the majors. He earned a Cy Young Award and was a three-time All-Star pitcher, making his name as a standout starter for the Arizona Diamondbacks. His best seasons were in 2006 and 2008, the latter of which is when he won 22 games and the former was his Cy Young-winning season.
Webb and Rondo are both certainly deserving of this honor.

Mike Evans may no longer be with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the impact he left on Emeka Egbuka during their lone season together isn't going anywhere.
Egbuka recently reflected on his time playing alongside the longtime Buccaneers receiver and what Evans has meant to the franchise. Underdog NFL shared Egbuka's comments on social media as Tampa Bay prepares for its first season without Evans since drafting him in 2014.
"When you think of Tampa Bay, you think of Mike Evans," Egbuka said. "I'm thankful to have had the year that I had with him."
Tampa Bay selected him in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, giving the rookie an opportunity to spend his first NFL season learning from a receiver who had already established himself as one of the most accomplished players in franchise history.
Now the responsibility inside Tampa Bay's receiver room is shifting. Evans departed for the San Francisco 49ers this offseason, while Egbuka enters his second season after recording 938 receiving yards and six touchdowns as a rookie.

Few coaches are better positioned to compare the Baltimore Ravens' running backs room to another NFL backfield than Eddie Faulkner. Hired to serve as running backs coach on Jesse Minter's staff, he most recently spent seven seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He helped develop and oversee multiple productive rushing attacks. That experience gives weight to his recent ****** sment of Baltimore's group, and it was a notable endorsement.
Faulkner recently said the Steelers' running backs room he coached last season was strong. At the same time, he suggested the Ravens' current collection of backs may be every bit as talented—if not better.
That's a significant yet unsurprising statement considering what Baltimore already has at the top of the depth chart. Any discussion about the Ravens' running backs begins with Derrick Henry.
Most won't need to be reminded of this, but it's worth another mention. The future Hall of Famer, Derrick Henry, enters another season as one of the most accomplished players at his position. Faulkner made it clear that Henry's resume speaks for itself.

President Donald Trump has always loved the idea of taking other countries' oil by force. And he claims to have accomplished that goal in Venezuela. The war there "lasted 48 minutes, and we paid for the war with what we've taken out many, many, many times. Where have you heard that before? You haven't heard that before. That's the old fashioned way, right? The old-fashioned way. To the victor belong the spoils," Trump told a crowd in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
That's not how other officials advertised U.S. oversight of Venezuelan oil. "We're the bankers, we don't direct the funds," Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent told the Economic Club of Minnesota in January. "This is the oil of the people of Venezuela," Secretary of State Marco Rubio testified to Congress a few weeks later, claiming that the U.S. government was making sure that "the needs of the Venezuelan people can be met" through oil sales.
In a way, they're both right. Shortly after the U.S. military operation in Venezuela on January 3, 2026, the two countries cut a deal to put sanctioned Venezuelan oil revenues under the control of the U.S. Treasury. The money still belongs to Venezuela on paper, but it's controlled by U.S. officials for all practical purposes—and trying to get any transparency on where it's going has been like pulling teeth.
The oil deal demonstrates the raw, unaccountable, and global power that economic sanctions give to the U.S. Treasury. Neither the American nor the Venezuelan people have a clear picture of what's going on. The case of Venezuela also shows how, despite invoking Ronald Reagan's anticommunism, the Trump administration is much more concerned with imposing direct economic control than nurturing free markets. After all, the Venezuelan oil deal is a U.S. partnership with a socialist dictatorship.
Over the past two decades, the U.S. Treasury had imposed sanctions on the Venezuelan oil and banking sectors, preventing Venezuela's state-owned oil company from exporting to North America and its socialist government from dealing in U.S. dollars. After the January 2026 operation, the Venezuelan leadership cut a deal. The Trump administration issued sanctions exemptions and even shielded Venezuelan money from U.S. lawsuits. In exchange, Venezuela began putting its oil revenues into bank accounts in the "custody" of the U.S. Treasury.

Former Manchester United forward Mark Hughes suffered the worst loss imaginable when his 38-year-old son Alex passed away from a sudden adult death syndrome on June 19 this year.
Though his playing career was short, Alex was a well-respected member of the English football community. He worked in recruitment at Grimsby Town, Manchester City, and other clubs throughout his career.
Following their son's death, Mark Hughes and his wife Jill said that they are "totally heartbroken by the sudden and unexpected loss of our beloved son."
Mark Hughes also released a statement through the League Managers ******* ociation. It reads, "Alex was a wonderful son, brother to Curtis and Xenna, devoted husband and father to Jessica and their two beautiful children Sebastian and Leonardo."
Mark Hughes played for some of the world's biggest clubs including Manchester United, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. He made 72 appearances for the Welsh national team from 1984-1999 and became an accomplished manager coaching nine teams, mostly in the English Premier League.

With one month remaining until the start of Northwestern's football season, head coach David Braun and his team are officially in fall camp and making final preparations for September.
The Big Ten Media Days in downtown Chicago have officially concluded after all 18 coaches and their players shared their thoughts on the upcoming season. Along with Coach Braun, Griffin Wilde, Caleb Komolafe and Robert Fitzgerald made an appearance to discuss their thoughts on the upcoming season.
After hearing from some of the biggest names on the roster, here are the biggest takeaways from the afternoon:
While easier said than done, Coach Braun laid out his vision for the future of Northwestern football. While he thanked the previous coaches of the 'Cats, he made it very clear that he wants to change the course of Northwestern football. He no longer wants the status quo of a mid-tier football team that makes a bowl game; he wants it all.
"What's been achieved over the last three decades under Coach Barnett, Coach Walker and Coach Fitz is something we will always talk about as a program," Braun said in his opening statement. "I have a level of appreciation of what has been accomplished. But there is also an acknowledgement and an 'and' proposition that we have expectations to do it better than we've ever done it before."

Justin Gaethje isn't done fighting just yet, but he'll need a massive fight to lure him back into the cage.
Gaethje is coming off an epic performance at the UFC White House event, beating down heavy favorite Ilia Topuria to capture the lightweight ****** le. There was some talk of retirement following that win. Gaethje has talked about this being his final run. And in a new interview with MMA Junkie, his manager Ali Abdelaziz shared his thoughts on what's next for "The Highlight."
"2027, we'll see Justin Gaethje fighting," Abdelaziz said. "He's fought two times this year. He deserves the time off. He's still the lightweight champion, undisputed, and I think all these guys have to chase him. But he wants to be in a big fight. A big, big fight. What is the big fight? Who decides that? It's Dana White who decides what's the biggest fight they can make."
As far as Abdelaziz is concerned, Gaethje has already accomplished enough to retire happy. But he won't stop his client from capitalizing on his current position to make a whole lot of money.
"I would like to see Justin Gaethje [retire]," Abdelaziz said. "If he retired today, I will be so happy because he did everything. And if he wants to choose to fight one more time, he can fight one more time because ****** ody tells him what to do. He's the boss."

The Denver Broncos' new facility was built with the idea of bringing the entire organization under one roof. Broncos president Damani Leech believes the team has accomplished its goal. While addressing media members last Saturday, Leech spoke about the project at length.
"This building is just… It's amazing," Leech said. "It's amazing; every day I walk the building, I see different parts for the first time post-construction, and I think it's amazing. It's a testament to ownership, to Greg and Carrie (Penner), the investment they've made into football. Football first, but also our business to bring nearly 100 business staff into the building to create culture, to design a building with football in mind. The ******* es are really well thought of. Very intentional layout. The player path of travel was really, really important. I love coming to work every day, and I think everybody else does too."

Leech spoke about the features of the building which make it special in his eyes, including a fun feature he "begged for."
"What I think is unique about this building is that it is distinctly Colorado," Leech said. I love on the third floor, which we'll see, the elevated ceilings, the mass timber is a great place for me to come and work every day. I was begging for the golf simulator and I got it, so there's really nothing that we didn't get."

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have enteried unfamiliar territory without Mike Evans in training camp in 2026, and wide receiver Emeka Egbuka admitted "it is a little weird" not having the former Buc around.
Asked about Evans' absence by CBS Sports, Egbuka described the franchise legend as being "Tampa through and through," noting that Evans has become virtually synonymous with the Buccaneers. Evans spent 12 seasons in Tampa Bay before beginning a new chapter with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason.
For Egbuka, however, Evans' impact extends far beyond his production on the field. The second-year receiver expressed gratitude for the opportunity to spend his rookie season learning directly from one of the most accomplished players in franchise history.
"I am just really grateful that I got to spend a year with him," Egbuka said, adding that he expects Evans to accomplish great things in San Francisco.

A plane flew over Wrigley Field ahead of Tarik Skubal's Los Angeles Dodgers debut on Tuesday, Aug. 4. It was supposed to read, "The Dodgers ruined baseball"... if it weren't upside down.
The fumbled stunt, funded by sports gambling company Underdog, was intended as a jab at the back-to-back World Series champions — and their projected $322 million payroll — in the wake of their blockbuster trade for the best pitcher in baseball.
"We just want to say what every fan is already thinking," Underdog said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports. And in that aspect, they accomplished just that. Just look at the replies under Jeff Passan's tweet when he broke news of the trade on Saturday night.

The New York Yankees secured a 2-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, but the story of the game was rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr.
New York decided Monday night to call up Lombard Jr., the team's top prospect, and while he made several clean plays in the field, his first MLB hit was a Bronx bomb to left field.
He became just the 14th player in Yankees franchise history to homer in his debut and is the second-youngest shortstop to hit a homer. The only player younger was Bobby Murcer at just the age of 19 in 1965.
The homer sent Yankees fans and his teammates in the dugout into a frenzy, including superstar Aaron Judge.
Judge had a viral reaction to watching the rookie hit the first home run of his career in his first game — something he also accomplished back in his debut in 2016.

USA TODAY released their first college football Coaches Poll for the 2026 season and while it should come as no surprise that the UCLA Bruins didn't crack the Top-25, new UCLA head coach Bob Chesney saw his former team, the James Madison Dukes earn some votes.
Like UCLA, James Madison did not make the Top-25, but the Dukes, fresh off of a College Football Playoffs appearance, garnered six votes in this week's poll. JMU's time in the CFP was short-lived, with the Oregon Ducks blowing out the Dukes in Round One, but even without Chesney in the fold, JMU has earned some respect.
Chesney took a lot of talent with him to Los Angeles but the Dukes should have enough talent to remain near the top of the Sun Belt Conference. JMU was the only Sun Belt school to earn votes in the Coaches Poll.
The Big Ten Conference received much more recognition in the inaugural Coaches Poll of the season, with Ohio State sitting in the No. 1 spot with Oregon right behind them at No. 2. The defending national champion Indiana Hoosiers find themselves at No. 6 despite coming off of an unbeaten season.
In total, there are eight Big Ten teams in the Top-25, with No. 14 USC, No. 16 Michigan, No. 17 Penn State, No. 19 Washington and No. 22 Iowa all making the cut. It's been awhile since UCLA last cracked the Coaches Poll, having not accomplished the feat since October of 2023 when Chip Kelly was still the Bruins' head coach.

Baker Mayfield's contract situation continues to generate national discussion as training camp gets underway, with one ESPN ******* yst questioning why the Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven't finalized an extension.
During First Take, former NFL quarterback Jordan Rodgers argued that the Buccaneers should have already committed to Mayfield after what he's accomplished since arriving in Tampa Bay.
"It's insane that Tampa will not invest three years, at 50 some-odd million, in a quarterback that is a franchise quarterback... especially when the guy went out and played hurt last year."
Rodgers added that he understands why Mayfield could feel slighted by the lack of a new deal.
The comments come after it was revealed that Mayfield played through multiple injuries during the 2025 season, including sprained MCL and PCL ligaments in his knee, a severe biceps contusion, and a shoulder injury. Despite those ailments, he remained on the field and helped keep the Buccaneers in the NFC South race while once again leading the offense.

The first week of Dallas Cowboys training camp is over and the pads start popping on Monday but there is already been some fireworks when it comes to standouts, stars and whispers of potential additions.
As much fans and the Cowboys want to get excited about the young guys, quarterback Dak Prescott remains the unquestioned star of team. The game has simply slowed down for him. MVP talk should be real for Prescott in this offense.
Left tackle remains a huge concern for the Cowboys and that means Tyler Guyton. As much success as the offense had last season despite the struggles of Guyton and Nate Thomas, it's not lost on the Cowboys that Prescott got sacked 31 times, fourth most his career, and got hit a ton. That he didn't get sacked more was due to his ability to move in the pocket and avoid sacks but he got as he was delivering the ball too many times for the Cowboys.
Receiver CeeDee Lamb is on board with Prescott's GOTI nickname, Greatest Offense There Is, for the Cowboys after what they accomplished last season. He said they are not resting on their laurels and want to better and more explosive in 2026. That starts with him staying healthy for a full season and the offense being better in the red zone. The were 16th in red zone touchdown percentage last season. "It's a standard for us," he said of the GOTI nickname. "Obviously, we know and we pay our dues to everybody and all the offenses that've been successful. And shout out to The Greatest Show on Turf, as we all know. They're the standard, you know what I'm saying? "But, as for us, we hold ourselves to a higher standard, and we just gotta be able to execute. We can say these things and have these acronyms for ourselves but, at the end of the day, we've got to come out here every day and execute. And we are reminded of that every day. That's our stepping stone, and making small, gradual steps every day, and being the best version of ourselves. You know the playmakers that we have, so you look top down, it's real."
Linebacker remains a position of focus for the Cowboys. There are still concerns about DeMarvion Overshown staying healthy for 17 games, an issue that is even more acute if he is asked to play middle linebacker and take on blocks for a full season. Overshown is at his best at weakside linebacker he and run sideline to sideline and blitz off the edge. The Cowboys tried to trade for Jordyn Brooks from the Dolphins in offseason. It's a trade they will likely revisit.

Noah Fant has played alongside some of the NFL's most accomplished wide receivers. It's something that gives the New Orleans Saints tight end a unique perspective on where Chris Olave stands around the league. Fant spent last season in Cincinnati with Ja'Marr Chase, who commands one of the NFL's largest target shares. After watching Olave during his first training camp in New Orleans, Fant believes the Saints' star belongs in a similar tier to where Chase stands.
"Ja'Marr got a lot of targets a game, as he should have," Fant told reporters on Sunday. "He's a great player, like, transcending wide receiver. But I think Chris — I mean, I think he's just as much up there. You know what I'm saying? Like, he's a great player."
Fant has also shared offenses with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Courtland Sutton during previous stops. It's a perspective that carries additional weight because he's seen several versions of elite receiver play throughout his career.
Olave will remain one of the primary pieces of the Saints' offense after being rewarded with a four-year contract extension worth up to $132 million just a few days ago. He also established himself early as one of Tyler Shough's top targets. For Fant, the tight end understands that the ball will frequently go in Olave's direction.
"There's guys like Chris Olave, right? He's going to have the ball a lot," Fant said. "He's a really good player, and as he should."

TNT Sports released new audience data this week highlighting strong growth throughout its five-race stretch of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season, pointing to gains across television, streaming and younger audiences during the inaugural tournament.
The numbers offer an early indication that NASCAR's newest midseason competition resonated with fans while helping TNT build momentum during its first year back as a Cup Series broadcaster.
According to TNT Sports, coverage across TNT, truTV and HBO Max reached 16.6 million total viewers over the five-race In-Season Challenge, marking a 43% increase compared to 2025.
The network also reported its five Cup Series broadcasts averaged 2.0 million viewers. Excluding the weather-affected EchoPark Speedway race in Atlanta, which aired after a three-hour, nine-minute delay and produced the latest Cup Series finish in seven years, average viewership climbed to 2.2 million, an increase of more than 2.1 million viewers over the comparable races last season.

The 15-year-old's meteoric rise headlines the latest rankings update, while Ishan Kishan tightened his grip on the world No. 1 spot after registering the third-highest batting rating in T20I history during the Harare series.
Sooryavanshi announced himself on the international stage with a memorable series against Zimbabwe, scoring 151 runs in three matches at an average of 50.33. His performances, which included two half-centuries, earned him the Player of the Series award and a remarkable rise of 230 places in the ICC rankings.

The teenage opener is now ranked 48th among T20I batters with 536 rating points, marking a new career-best ranking.
