Lakers predicted to sign $15M explosive former first-round pick to revive career around Luka Doncic originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Former first-round pick Cam Whitmore is simply looking for an opportunity to play for the right team in the right situation. He still does not know exactly where that will be, but he is hoping to find the right fit soon.
Whitmore was on the roster bubble with the Washington Wizards before being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cleveland ultimately waived him to make room for James Harden.
"The Cleveland Cavaliers have waived Cam Whitmore, league sources told hoopshype. Whitmore, the 20th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, has averaged 10.5 points on 45% from the field and 35% from 3-point range in 17.3 minutes during three NBA seasons with the Rockets and Wizards," HoopsHype's Michael Scotto wrote.
Whitmore still has time to develop into the player many believe he can become. Fadeaway World's Fran Leiva believes the Los Angeles Lakers could be the team to give him that opportunity.

Warriors predicted to sign $15M athletic former first-rounder recently waived by the Cavaliers originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Golden State Warriors' first 12 players on the roster this summer were familiar faces with some level of experience in the organization. However, that changed as the Warriors added several pieces to round out the team during free agency.
Golden State brought in veterans with playoff experience last week, officially signing Georges Niang and Brandon Williams to contracts.
"The Warriors signed Georges Niang to a partially guaranteed deal and Brandon Williams to a non-guaranteed deal, sources say. Niang is partially guaranteed for $1.84M of his $3.88M salary. Williams can earn $1.4M if he makes the opening night roster and up to $2.63M total," HoopsHype's Michael Scotto posted.
The Warriors still have a two-way contract available after rounding out the rest of the roster. Blue Man Hoops' Peter O'Keefe believes Golden State could use that spot to sign Cam Whitmore.

CHICAGO (AP) — The nation's first women's professional baseball league in nearly 30 years is about to embark on its inaugural season in what marks a major milestone in the scattered history of the sport in the United States.
The Women's Pro Baseball League is also part of a timeline that goes back to the very beginning of the sport.
"Women have always been part of this game," said Kat Williams, the chief executive officer of the International Women's Baseball Center. "We've always played, we've always umpired, we've always coached. And in some of the earliest references in the 17th century, the earliest references to something like a game of baseball, it was women that were playing it."
Next up is the WPBL, which plays its first game Saturday. The league has four teams — New York, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco — for its first year, but the 15 regular-season games for each club and the playoffs will be held at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois. The ballpark has a seating capacity of 5,200, and Springfield hosted one of the earliest paid women's games when the Blondes faced the Brunettes on Sept. 11, 1875.
Kelsie Whitmore, Mo'ne Davis and Ayami Sato are among the marquee names expected to play in the league's first season. Each team will have 15 active players for the seven-inning games.

South Korea head coach Hong Myung-bo reportedly chose to resign immediately after the country’s surprise exit at the group stage of the World Cup, but this wasn’t the only decision that caught the eye.
The Tigers of Asia suffered consecutive 1-0 defeats to Mexico and South Africa following their opening victory against Czechia, and much like Scotland needed help from numerous teams if they were to qualify.
Victories for Algeria, Senegal, and a goalless draw between Paraguay and Australia extinguished South Korea’s chances of finishing as one of the eight third-placed teams with the best records at the World Cup.
They finished 10th on three points and a goal difference of -1, a minimum of four goals behind the required total to give Senegal reason for concern. Hong stepped down as could be expected, according to Korean outlet Yonghap News Agency.

England will face DR Congo in the round of 32 in Atlanta after beating Panama to finish as Group L winners, while the African side earned a first ever win at the World Cup.
The African side conceded inside just 10 minutes to Uzbekistan’s all-time leading goalscorer Eldor Shomurodov lobbing Lionel Mpasi Nzau, when the goalkeeper was left stranded by a miscommunication with Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
But Yoane Wissa’s brace either side of Fiston Mayele scoring from off the bench in the second half completed an inspired comeback in Atlanta, where they will return to face the Three Lions on the 1st of July at 17:00 (BST).
They rose to second in the third-placed teams ranking, level on points with Graham Potter’s Sweden.

DR Congo qualified for the World Cup knockout stages for the first time with their first ever victory at the tournament, mounting a sensational comeback to beat Uzbekistan 3-1 on their return after 52 years.
All-time leading Uzbek scorer Ugor Shomurodov notched his 45th international goal on the game that took him to 96 caps to punish a lapse in concentration from the African side’s defence just 10 minutes into the game.
Yoanne Wissa converted a penalty days after scoring his country’s first goal at the tournament, before Mayele and the Newcastle striker’s brilliant second set up a meeting with England in the round of 32 by hauling them to third in Group K.
Shomurodov was running in behind to chase down a lofted pass down the left channel by Akmal Mozgovoy and caught out DR Congo as the ball bounced into the penalty area.

Neymar has been named in Brazil’s matchday squad for their final World Cup group stage game against Scotland at Miami Stadium.
The 34-year-old winger hasn’t played for Seleção since 17th of October 2023, when he suffered a combined anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus injury in a World Cup qualifying defeat to Uruguay.
The incident kept the Santos player out of action for club and country until his return 368 days later, before he was called up to represent Brazil in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Neymar is yet to feature at this year’s tournament for Brazil, missing out on their opening two group games against Morocco and Haiti as he hadn’t quite recovered in time to play a part in their bid for a seventh triumph at the World Cup finals.

Gary Lineker is set to make a surprise appearance as a guest pundit on ITV's World Cup coverage of the Ivory Coast's Group E match against Germany on Sunday.
It marks 13 months since the former England forward – who has been in New York recording daily episodes for his podcast The Rest is Football – left his role as the face of the long-running Premier League highlights show Match of the Day.
Lineker has taken part in the coverage of six World Cups, and his booking may come as a welcome boost for ITV after taking a lead over the BBC in terms of TV ratings since the latest tournament began last Thursday.
The broadcaster also recorded four of the five highest viewing figures for matches that took place in the first week of the tournament, according to The Guardian.
