Sunderland have completed the signing of 18-year-old striker Juan Riquelme Angulo Caicedo from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle.
The highly-rated forward has signed a long-term contract at the Stadium of Light after attracting interest from several clubs across Europe.
Standing at 6ft 4in, Angulo made his professional debut for Independiente del Valle in March 2026 and immediately made an impact, scoring in a 3-1 victory over Mushuc Rung.
Later that month, the teenager received his first call-up to the Ecuador senior squad despite having only just broken into professional football.
Angulo leaves Independiente del Valle after scoring six goals in 15 league appearances this season, averaging a goal every 115 minutes.

Former Sunderland striker Marco Gabbiadini says he is happy that the Black Cats have kept the core of the squad but says they need more numbers to deal with extra European fixtures - and signing a forward is "imperative".
"I'm happy with this squad because it's the core that we had last season - 90% of the players from last season are still here, and I think that is the most important thing," Gabbiadini told BBC Radio Newcastle.
"We need a few more numbers just because of the amount of these extra games that we're going to have to play, but they're not going to do anything too drastic because Regis le Bris has already talked about the size of his squad and what he can handle."
When asked about which position should be a priority for sporting director Florent Ghisolfi, Gabbiadini cited the forward line despite being content with Trai Hume and Nilson Angulo starting on the wing in Sunderland's opening games of the season.
"Another forward is imperative - in case of injuries more than anything, but it is always good to have competition in those places.

Austin FC's Leagues Cup 2026 run came to an end following a 2-0 quarterfinal loss to LIGA MX powerhouse Toluca FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Wednesday night.
Toluca advance to face Club León in the semifinals next week thanks to Helinho's 53rd-minute penalty kick after Oleksandr Svatok fouled Jesús Ángulo in the box. It was only the second goal Austin conceded in Leagues Cup 2026.
The Verde & Black were dealt a setback in the 40th minute after Joseph Rosales was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Federico Pereira.
Brad Stuver did his best to keep Austin FC in the match, making several key saves in a one-goal game against the current Concacaf Champions Cup ****** le-holders.

Sunderland needed a moment of magic in their Premier League opener against Ipswich Town, and Nilson Angulo delivered exactly that.
Approaching half-time at Portman Road, the Black Cats were trailing the newly promoted side after an opening goal from Emersonn.
However, a little over five minutes before the break, Angulo ended a decade-long Sunderland curse to put them back on level terms.
To put it simply - he scored a direct free-kick. Bizarrely, the first time Sunderland have done so in a Premier League fixture in over 10 years.
Patrick van Aanholt, in a match against Everton back in May 2016, was the previous player to do so.

Pumas struggled at home in a 0-0 tie against Queretaro. After an improving start to the Apertura 2026, their terrible Leagues Cup participation seemed to have influenced their Liga MX campaign as they had trouble in a match they were favored to win. Queretaro has been one of the surprising teams in Liga MX and they had a good plan to counter Pumas, which paid off. Pumas will stay at home before taking on Necaxa on Sunday while Queretaro will also host but will have a tougher match when they face off against Toluca.
The 1st half started with Pumas taking the surprising decision of starting with Uriel Antuna to take the place of Alvaro Angulo, a strange move especially with Cristian Calderon on the bench. From outside the area, Adalberto Carrasquilla was given time and **** e to get off a great left footed shot that forced a wonderful save from Queretaro's goalkeeper, Guillermo Allison. In the ensuing corner kick, the ball would eventually fall to Robert Morales but his right footed volley went well wide. A cross into the area was headed wide from close range by Juninho. A cross into the area was just missed by Daniel Parra but he would not get to it, had he gotten to it, he would have had a close range empty net chance. I was personally really sad to see Dennis Cirkin leave this summer. Not only because he’d been with us on our journey to European football, but because whenever he seemed to be looking like he could go to the next level, an injury would find its way to him.
After the 24-year-old finally hung up his wrist brace on Wearside, and with the seemingly imminent departure of Arthur Masuaku, it leaves Reinildo Mandava as the Lads’ only true left-back. That is, barring a Lazarus-esque development from Leo Hjelde or Aji Alese.

"We got off to a great start," Nagelsmann said. "Unfortunately, right after scoring, we started committing tactical suicide with our positioning. That makes things difficult.

According to ABC in Spain, ***** nal have strengthened their medical and performance department by signing Eneko Angulo, the head of rehabilitation for Real Betis’ first team.
Angulo leaves Betis after 12 years with the Spanish club, where he had worked across the youth academy before taking responsibility for first-team set-up.
Mateo Gonzalez reports that Angulo accepted a “lucrative offer” from the Premier League champions and Champions League finalists.
Angulo had initially developed his work at Betis as an ***** istant in Manuel Pellegrini’s first-team set-up, after previously gaining experience in the academy.

Stubborn World Cup debutants Curaçao earned a much deserved first point at the tournament in their history while severely denting Ecuador’s hope of reaching the knockouts in an entertaining 0-0 draw in Group E.
