The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a bipartisan bill aimed at shielding Americans from increased electricity costs **** ociated with data centers being built across the country.
The Ratepayer Protection Act, which passed with an overwhelming 417-3 majority, "ensures American families are not left footing the bill for the grid upgrades and new energy generation required to operate large data centers," Republican Rep. Gabe Evans, one of the bill's sponsors, said ahead of the vote.
The bill now moves to the Senate, where its prospects of passing are uncertain.
The Ratepayer Protection Act is the first major piece of legislation taken up by Congress to address the growing public discontent over the mass buildout of data centers among the American public. Even if it passes, though, it won't directly set the rates that data center operators pay for their electricity.
Congress doesn't have the power to compel utilities to set higher rates for the facilities. Only states have that authority. What the Ratepayer Protection Act would do is compel state utility regulators to consider adopting a federal standard under which large data centers would cover the extra costs of upgrades. The bill is comparable to a proclamation signed by President Trump earlier this year that established a similar voluntary pledge for tech companies.

Glentoran manager Declan Devine is set to leave the club amid the east Belfast outfit's poor start to the Irish Premiership season.
An agreement over his departure was reached on Monday with the Glens winless in their past three league games and sat eighth in the table with seven points from their opening six fixtures.
Devine's last game in charge was a frustrating 1-1 draw with Bangor at the Oval on Saturday and the full-time whistle was met by a chorus of boos from the home faithful.
Former Glens goalkeeper Devine took over at the 23-time league champions initially as interim boss in March 2024 after Warren Feeney was sacked.
He was given the role as permanent boss the following month and guided Glentoran to the County Antrim Shield in the 2024-25 season, their first trophy in five years.

While much of the clothing and footwear industry has spent this earnings season explaining away low consumer demand, Birkenstock Holding plc (NYSE:BIRK) showed an entirely different story, and investors rewarded it accordingly.
Shares of the German footwear manufacturer rose up to 20% on August 13 after the company published fiscal third-quarter earnings that exceeded expectations and prompted management to improve its full-year guidance. Revenue for the quarter came in at €720 million (about $829 million), up 13% on a reported basis and 15% in constant currency, exceeding ****** ysts expectations of around €713-715 million. Meanwhile, adjusted earnings per share of €0.74 happened to be somewhat lower than the €0.76 consensus, though this fact did little to dampen enthusiasm given the report's overall strength.
The headline change was direction. Birkenstock Holding plc (NYSE:BIRK) now targets fiscal 2026 revenue growth of 15% on a constant-currency basis, up from its previous range of 13% to 15%, putting the company at the upper end of its own previous objective rather than just reiterating it. Management also increased its adjusted EBITDA forecast to at least €710 million, up from a previous floor of €700 million, and now expects reported revenue to be at the high end of the €2.30 billion-€2.35 billion range.
According to Birkenstock Holding plc (NYSE:BIRK), the reason for some of the strength is simple: full-price demand from affluent buyers who haven't reduced their discretionary spending in the same manner that the broader consumer has. Strong pricing power and brand loyalty helped shield companies catering to wealthier customers from the broader spending pullback affecting much of the apparel and footwear sector, and Birkenstock's results reflect this across all regions it operates in, with the Americas growing 14%, EMEA 15%, and Asia-Pacific rising the fastest at 23%, all in constant currency terms.

Wall Street has bid up defense contractors on geopolitical tensions alongside expanded missile-defense funding, but Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) remains an outlier. On September 4, 2026, the company secured a $508.5 million Missile Defense Agency contract for ICBM and IRBM target flight-test support running through 2035. The non-competitive contract follows the $3 billion (approx.) in framework agreements to expand solid-rocket-motor production for PAC-3 and THAAD interceptors. Despite these bookings, stock slipped 2.5% to $515. The stock is trading near 16 times earnings and 33% below its peak, making Northrop one of the lowest-multiple prime defense contractors.

DETROIT — Claressa Shields wants her next fight to be her biggest one.
And she wants it to be on the biggest stage yet.
Representatives for Shields, the undisputed "GWOAT" of boxing who remains undefeated as a professional, have had recent negotiations to stage her next bout at downtown Detroit's Ford Field. Shields would be the first female boxer ever to headline a stadium card in the United States. Promoters believe the fight could draw 50,000 fans.
"We just feel like it's the right time to make history again, to break another glass ceiling," Dmitriy Salita, of Salita Promotions, told The Detroit News on Thursday.
"We would love for this milestone to happen in Detroit, as well."

A federal appeals court ruled that a Texas woman can't sue two Santa Fe police officers who pinned her face down on a fire ant hill while she was handcuffed, causing her to receive hundreds of painful bites to her face.
In an August 6 opinion, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit reversed a lower court decision allowing Taylor Rogers' lawsuit against the City of Santa Fe and the two officers to move forward. Instead, the panel held that the officers were shielded from her claims under the doctrine of qualified immunity.
In a press conference last Friday, Rogers' attorney, Randy Kallinen, criticized the ruling.
"The United States 5th Circuit Court of Appeals is out of touch with the Constitution and the public, granting police immunity in the most egregious of cases," Kallinen said. "The people need to elect officials who will nominate and affirm judges loyal to the Constitution."
Kallinen told The Daily News that he has requested an en banc hearing for the full 15-member 5th Circuit to review the case, and he'll petition the Supreme Court for review if that fails.

NORMAN — Oklahoma is adding significant depth at defensive tackle.
The Sooners are expected to add former Boise State defensive tackle Braxton Fely, The Oklahoman confirmed Thursday.
Fely was granted a temporary restraining order against the NCAA on Thursday in Cleveland County District Court, clearing him to compete until a future hearing on a permanent injunction is scheduled.
The order blocks the NCAA from enforcing any bylaw to keep him off the field, and separately bars the "Rule of Restitution," shielding OU from potential penalties for playing him.
Arkansas defensive tackle transfer Danny Saili has already been added to the roster and received a separate TRO on Thursday.

Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman was arrested in June after allegedly breaking the windshield and windows of a car with his child and the child's mother inside, but he was not placed on paid leave by the NFL ahead of the cut to 53 players last weekend.
That leaves Bateman available to the Ravens as the league's investigation into the matter plays out. On Wednesday, Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta said that he doesn't know the timeline for that process.
"It's obviously something that we're very disappointed about that we have to deal with these kind of things," DeCosta said, via the team's website. "We knew about it right away. We contacted the league right away. The league has been doing an investigation, as well I suppose the authorities. In these matters we just kind of sit back and wait for the league and the authorities to tell us what's going on. I have no indication how long that's going to take."
Bateman is coming off of a disappointing 2025 season and the team was banking on a rebound before news of the arrest came to light. If he's not going to be around to provide it, the Ravens will need one or more of their other receivers to step up quickly as a complement to Zay Flowers in the offense.

New Zealand will host India A for three four-day matches in Christchurch from October 24, giving the players valuable preparation ahead of the senior teams' two-Test series later in the year.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed the fixtures while announcing the schedule for the country's domestic Plunket Shield competition. The three matches will be played alongside India's white-ball tour of New Zealand.
India are set to tour New Zealand from October to December for a busy multi-format ******* ignment featuring five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests. The India A matches will give players an opportunity to adapt to New Zealand conditions before the Test series.
"The domestic red ball summer will also get an injection of international class as New Zealand A host India A for three four-day matches in Christchurch starting October 24," NZC said in a statement.
The exact dates of the three India A matches have not yet been announced, but all three fixtures will be held in Christchurch. The senior India team's white-ball campaign will begin on October 22 with the first T20I in Christchurch.

Brooke Shields and Miley Cyrus share a warm and respectful professional relationship. The two have worked together and have also had their share of disagreements. A similar dynamic exists between Shields' daughter Rowan Henchy and Cyrus. Now, Rowan recalled about the beef between the two.
Recently, 23-year-old Rowan Henchy appeared on SiriusXM's Page Six Radio alongside some of her castmates. During the conversation, Rowan recalled a Hannah Montana moment when Miley Cyrus offered to share her mom, Brooke Shields, with her.
Henchy said, "I was such a Hannah Montana fan from the beginning, and she brought me, you know how they used to do live recordings, and there was an audience?"
"So she brought me on one time, and I just remember going up to Miley Cyrus, and I was like, 'She's my mother, not yours. And Miley was like, 'We can share her,'" she added
Later, Rowan continued, "You cannot say that to me. And mom was like, 'Okay, yes, I'm yours,'"

CrowdStrike Holdings (NASDAQ:CRWD) just posted the best quarter in its history, and the numbers back that up. Net new annual recurring revenue hit $333 million on August 26, accelerating to 51% growth and beating the high end of guidance by more than $45 million. Total revenue climbed 26% to $1.47 billion, a fifth straight quarter of accelerating growth. Buried in the same earnings call, though, was a guide for the current quarter that points to a much slower pace ahead.
The clearest story here is Falcon Flex, the bundled subscription model that lets customers consolidate security modules under one contract. Ending ARR tied to Flex reached $2.29 billion, up 101% year over year, and the company added more than 935 new Flex accounts in the quarter, over ten a day. Customers who converted from a standard subscription to Flex boosted spending by an average of 40%, and new logos signing directly onto Flex made up a record 34% of net new ARR. That bundling machine is now feeding a new category of demand.
Artificial Intelligence Detection and Response, built to police rogue AI agents, saw its ending ARR nearly triple versus the prior quarter, while identity products like Falcon Shield and privileged account protection grew more than 185% and more than 35 times year over year. Endpoint security, the original business, accelerated for a fourth straight quarter as customers locked down AI tools running on their machines. None of this came at the expense of profit. Non-GAAP operating income rose 46% to $372 million, a 25% margin, and free cash flow grew 33% to $377 million. Management raised its full-year net new ARR guidance by 1.15 thousand basis points from its initial outlook, to $1.35 billion to $1.36 billion.
Look past the headline print and the picture gets more complicated. CrowdStrike earned just $5 million in GAAP net income for the quarter, only its third straight quarter in the black on that basis, a reminder that the far larger non-GAAP profit figures still lean on add-backs like stock-based compensation. The company's own outlook for the next quarter cools things off too. Third quarter net new ARR is guided to grow 29% to 31% year over year, roughly half the 51% pace just posted, and revenue growth is guided to slow to 23% to 24% from the 26% delivered in the second quarter. Some of that is routine caution, but it still means the acceleration does not carry forward unchanged.

With two months left in the season, the Orlando Pride are moving on from head coach Seb Hines: In a statement released Monday, the club announced that they have "parted ways" with Hines, effectively immediately.
Goalkeeper coach Paul Crichton, who has been with the team since 2023, has also been fired as part of the move. ******* istant coach Yolanda Thomas will take over as the interim head coach for the rest of the season.
The team did not provide a specific reason for the firing, though Orlando Pride vice president of soccer operations and general manager Caitlin Carducci said in the statement that they felt it was time to move on.
"(Hines) will always have a special place in our history for helping lead the Pride to levels it had never reached before," Carducci said. "However, as we look toward the Club's long-term vision and future objectives, we believe that this is the appropriate time for a leadership change."
Hines is just two years removed from the Pride's remarkable 2024 NWSL Championship run. The team easily clinched the NWSL Shield after a record-breaking regular season, breaking a streak of finishing just outside the playoffs. Orlando went on to win it all in the postseason too, becoming the first NWSL team in six years to earn the double. As a result, Hines was awarded the 2024 NWSL Coach of the Year.
