Meta refused to remove a deepfake ad cloning Clark Howard's face to sell fraudulent insurance, telling him it meets their standards.
Meta earns nearly all of its $59 billion quarterly revenue from ads, giving automated systems little incentive to reject borderline content.
Credit cards are the only payment method offering strong fraud recovery; wire transfers, gift cards, and peer-to-peer payments are virtually unrecoverable.

GSK plc (NYSE:GSK) plans to close its vaccine manufacturing facility in Dresden, Germany, by summer 2027, putting 641 jobs at risk. The decision reflects declining demand for traditional egg-based flu vaccines, which has left GSK with more manufacturing capacity than it needs. GSK reviewed its Dresden and Ste-Foy, Canada, flu vaccine sites and chose to consolidate production in Canada, which it says can meet anticipated demand more sustainably and competitively.
The closure comes as GSK plc (NYSE:GSK) is shifting its influenza strategy toward newer technology: the company is advancing an mRNA-based seasonal flu vaccine into Phase III after Phase II results showed stronger immune responses than standard-dose vaccines in younger adults and high-dose vaccines in older adults. The broader vaccine environment has also weakened, with Reuters reporting declining sales across flu, RSV, and other vaccines amid lower demand and policy-related pressures, increasing the importance of manufacturing discipline and portfolio selection.
Copyright: kadmy / 123RF Stock Photo
The closure could ultimately strengthen GSK plc (NYSE:GSK)'s margins and cash generation by removing excess capacity from a declining part of the influenza market rather than continuing to carry the fixed costs of an underutilized facility. GSK explicitly said demand for traditional egg-based flu vaccines is falling and that it has more capacity than required, while the Canadian facility can meet anticipated future demand competitively.
This is particularly important because GSK's vaccine business remains a significant earnings contributor but is increasingly being driven by products with better growth prospects: second-quarter 2026 vaccine sales rose 8% to £2.3 billion, with meningitis vaccines up 21% and Arexvy sales increasing by more than 100%, while Shingrix generated £0.9 billion. The Dresden decision therefore looks less like a retreat from vaccines overall and more like a reallocation of manufacturing capacity away from mature egg-based products toward higher-value technologies.

Boston Scientific (BSX) trades at about $43, roughly 17% below the recent high it set on 19th Aug, 2026. Its own history with sharp drops is encouraging. That history does not cover a cyberattack it says is likely to hit its 2026 results, and the stock is down about 60% over the past twelve months. Start with the history.
Since 2010, Boston Scientific has fallen 20% or more inside 30 trading days six times. Four are old enough to have a full year behind them, and all four ended higher twelve months later, at a median gain of 18%. The two most recent are too young to have a one-year result.
Collecting that gain was uncomfortable. Among those four, the median buyer sat through a further 17% decline first, and the worst further fall in the whole record was 44%. The median peak gain of 30% took about 226 days to arrive, close to seven and a half months. Waiting, not timing, is what that history rewards.
The record behind those medians is below.
BSX had 6 events since 1/1/2010 where the dip threshold of -20% within 30 days was triggered

Microsoft's next major AI constraint may be measured in turbines rather than processors. On June 22, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) entered a 20-year power purchase agreement with Energy Forge One LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX), for a planned West Texas data-center project. The Kilby development targets 2.67 gigawatts of generation, with initial power expected in 2028. Its scale suggests that securing dependable electricity is becoming as strategic to hyperscalers as securing accelerators.
Tupungato / Shutterstock.com
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) gets a dedicated path to capacity in a grid-constrained market. Natural gas can provide round-the-clock generation that complements intermittent renewables and supports the reliability AI clusters require. A two-decade contract can also give developers confidence to finance construction. The bull case is simple: Microsoft protects its cloud growth by solving power locally instead of waiting years for transmission expansion.
Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) gains a new outlet for its gas and an opportunity to move downstream into integrated power. If Kilby works, Chevron can replicate a model that converts energy resources and project expertise into long-duration data-center cash flows. Yet the project has not reached a final investment decision. Construction, permitting, fuel costs, emissions rules, and customer requirements can all change the economics before power begins flowing.
Those uncertainties create bear cases for both companies. Microsoft is committing to an energy pathway as AI hardware and efficiency evolve rapidly, and a long contract can become less attractive if power markets change. Chevron and its partners must commit capital years before the **** et is operational while managing construction, fuel-cost and carbon-policy risks. Gas solves the reliability problem, but it may intensify political and regulatory scrutiny around AI's environmental footprint. The critical milestones are final investment approval, permitting, construction costs, and data showing that the first power date remains achievable. Until those arrive, the agreement secures intent rather than operating supply.

Hotchkis & Wiley, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for the "Large Cap Fundamental Value Fund." A copy can be downloaded here. Equity markets posted strong returns, with the Russell 1000 Value Index rising by 13.9%, although many individual stocks lagged. Notably, semiconductor stocks and AI-related sectors saw exceptional gains. The rally appeared speculative, marked by a stark difference in performance between high-beta and low-volatility stocks, along with momentum stocks outperforming the market significantly. Despite heightened enthusiasm for AI investments, concerns arise over inflated valuations reminiscent of the dot-com era. While there is substantial capital investment in AI, future earnings growth must justify these expenditures. The fund maintains a cautious approach towards perceived beneficiaries of AI, suggesting that select high-quality businesses with reasonable valuations may be better positioned. Historical trends suggest that speculative markets often revert to valuations based on fundamental economic realities, and the chosen investments are believed to be well-prepared for such a shift. The fund underperformed the index in the quarter and returned 5.69% vs. 13.87% for the Russell 1000 Value Index, largely due to a lack of exposure to high-performing sectors like semiconductors, while stock selection in healthcare provided a positive contribution. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Hotchkis & Wiley Large Cap Fundamental Value Fund highlighted Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) as a notable contributor. Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) is a US-based health benefits company. On August 31, 2026, Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) closed at $392.54 per share. Over the past month, Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) reported 3.85%, but its shares are up 21.78% over the past year. Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) has a market capitalization of $85.13 billion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $274.84 to $436.24.
Hotchkis & Wiley Large Cap Fundamental Value Fund stated the following regarding Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) is the second largest health insurer, and one of the largest commercial insurers in the United States. Shares rose during the quarter after the company reported quarterly earnings that beat consensus estimates. It was further supported by news that the US agreed to increase 2027 payments for private Medicare Advantage plans above the initial proposal. The company is priced at a discount to the market, driven by skepticism surrounding margins and growth, despite being a superior business that grows above GDP while returning most of its cash to shareholders."

As of August 24, 2026, the average rate for a 30-year, fixed loan was 6.71% — up from the beginning of the year, and higher than the 2025 average of 6.66%.
Over the past four decades, the 30-year fixed rate ranged from a 2021 low of 2.65% to a 1981 high above 18%.
The average 30-year fixed rate bottomed in 2021 at just under 3%.
87% of all borrowers in 2025 paid more than the most competitive rate available to them, according to Bankrate's Hidden Homeownership Tax research — meaning rate history matters less to your bill than whether you actually shopped your own rate.
The residential mortgage as we know it today is less than a century old. In fact, until the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) was established in 1934, only one in 10 Americans even owned a home. That all changed with the introduction of the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage during the Great Depression, which made homeownership possible for millions.

Wolfspeed emerged from bankruptcy last fall, wiping out some expensive debt and finding itself on better footing. However, many of the issues that pushed it into bankruptcy in the first place remain. The chief among them is negative gross margins.

NEW DELHI/MUMBAI, Aug 4 (Reuters) - India has moved a step closer to reintroducing merchant fees on transactions made through its popular Unified Payments Interface (UPI) after proposed changes to the ‌country's payments laws were introduced in parliament on Tuesday.
UPI, one of the world's largest real-time ‌payments networks, processed 23.6 billion transactions worth 29.9 trillion rupees ($313.5 billion) in July, according to official data. Walmart's PhonePe and Alphabet's Google Pay dominate payments via UPI.
Industry executives have long argued that growth in digital payments has become harder to sustain because payment firms earn no fee on UPI transactions, limiting their ability to invest in the ecosystem.
An amendment to India's Payment and Settlement Systems Act, tabled in parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, would allow ‌the introduction of a merchant discount rate (MDR) on digital payments, according to industry and regulatory sources.
The sources said the change creates a legal basis for charging an MDR, but no decision has yet been made on the level of fees or where they would apply.

Shares of Rocket Lab (NASDAQ: RKLB) are down more than 13% so far this year. This is despite the excitement around ***** e stocks, especially the initial public offering (IPO) of ***** e Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX), commonly known as ***** eX, on June 12.
The reasons for Rocket Lab's slump vary. In the fourth quarter of 2025, the company reported improved revenue of $180 million, up 36% year over year, and a loss per share (EPS) of $0.10, even with the same period a year earlier. In the first quarter of 2026, the stock jumped 34% after the company's earnings report, with Rocket Lab reporting revenue of $200.3 million, up 63.5% year over year, and an EPS loss of $0.07, after an EPS loss of $0.12 in the first quarter of 2025.
The reason for the stock's rise after the second quarter report is clear. Revenue growth is nice, but investors are looking for improved profitability. Many savers learn the hard way that using a 401(k) to build a retirement nest egg can have a major drawback -- early withdrawal penalties. Generally speaking, withdrawals from a 401(k) are penalized 10% when taken before age 59 1/2.
But thanks to a lesser-known rule, you may be able to take a penalty-free 401(k) withdrawal at a slightly younger age. And that flexibility may come in handy if you end up leaving your job in your mid-50s.

The rule of 55 allows 401(k) savers to take penalty-free withdrawals under certain circumstances. Specifically, you must leave your job the year you turn 55 or later, and you must only withdraw funds from the 401(k) plan sponsored by the employer you've separated from at 55 or later.
If you follow these rules, you may be able to avoid a penalty for tapping your own savings. But there are some nuances to be aware of.

Philip's $45,000 household income in Los Angeles is an earnings problem. California's cost of living runs 11% above the national baseline, and average consumer expenditures hit $78,535 in 2024.
At a record 21% APR, carrying medical copays on credit cards makes debt repayment nearly impossible at Philip's current income level.
Ramsey argues Philip moving to full-time work at the national median wage of $1,251 per week would roughly double his household income.
Two retirees, same $1 million, same 4% rule, buy one finished with $1.4 million, the other hit $0 in 12 years. Our free reader guide explains the flaw that separated them, and the income-first method built to avoid it.
On July 23, a caller named Philip told Dave Ramsey he could not stop taking on new debt. He is 49, works part-time as a grocery store courtesy clerk in Southern California, and shares a household income of roughly $40,000 to $45,000 with his wife. The debt was credit cards and routine medical bills, copays, doctor visits, dental care. When asked why he was not working full-time, Philip said, "A lot of emotional stuff, a lot of baggage, a lot of... yeah, I have a long history."

This may come as a surprise, but one of the world's biggest winners of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution isn't actually a technology firm — it's Walmart (WMT), the big-box discount retailer.
Thanks to its early and aggressive bets on AI beginning in the late 2010s, Walmart has transformed its operations, optimized its supply chain, and cut delivery times to as little as 30 minutes while boosting employee productivity.
AI has also helped fuel double-digit share price gains, pushing Walmart's valuation above $1 trillion — the first retailer ever to reach that milestone. In fact, on January 9, 2026, Walmart joined the tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 index as a reflection of its digital transformation, triggering an estimated $19 billion in passive capital inflows and sending shares to new highs.
But these advancements are coming at a human cost. In May 2026, Walmart announced that, as part of a plan to streamline its global operations, it would lay off or relocate about 1,000 corporate workers.
While a company spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal that these changes were "related to organizational structure and alignment, not handing over more tasks to artificial intelligence," Walmart's employees say that the company's AI-fueled initiatives have resulted in a race to meet "impossible deadlines," raising concerns over workplace safety and product quality.

For those investors that have ridden the stock market up to near all-time highs, they may be thinking about reducing their equity exposure and adding fixed income to their portfolio.
