England have received a boost ahead of their three-match Test series against Pakistan, with opener Emilio Gay reportedly expected to recover in time for the first Test at Headingley, beginning August 19. Gay suffered a shoulder injury while playing for Durham against Middlesex on Friday, but scans have reportedly shown no serious damage.
Gay made his Test debut against New Zealand earlier this year and scored two half-centuries in the three-match series. Despite some inconsistency, his partnership with Ben Duckett impressed England's management, who want to give him more opportunities after dropping Zak Crawley.
According to the Daily Mail Sport, Gay's scan on Saturday revealed no major injury, meaning he should be available to resume his opening partnership with Duckett against Pakistan.
The series will also be Joe Root's first official ******* ignment as England's Test captain since returning to the role. Newly appointed head coach Stephen Fleming has been involved in selecting the squad, while Marcus Trescothick will oversee the team as interim head coach for this series before Fleming takes full charge.

England will be without top-order batter Jacob Bethell, who has been ruled out after suffering a knee injury during the team's recent 2-1 ODI series win over India.
England enter the series after losing 2-1 at home to New Zealand, while Pakistan drew their recent Test series in the West Indies.
England squad for first two Tests against Pakistan: Joe Root (captain), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Jordan ******* , Ben Duckett, Matthew Fisher, Emilio Gay, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Jamie Smith, and Josh Tongue.

The SEC is home to 10 live mascots after welcoming Oklahoma and Texas to the conference in 2024. The conference has some of the most unique traditions and best mascots in all of sports.
Four dog mascots represent the most popular type of live mascot in the SEC. The SEC has three teams (Auburn, Missouri and LSU) with Tiger mascots, but LSU is the only one with a live Tiger mascot.
Across the conference, most programs established traditions with mascots long ago, but some mascots are more recent. The most memorable mascot moments in SEC history have to be when Texas mascot Bevo attempted to gore Uga at the Sugar Bowl and when Uga lunged and tried to bite Auburn receiver Robert Baker in 1996.
Someone had to be last. Sooner Schooner is a tongue-twister and started in 1964. The Sooner Schooner became Oklahoma's official mascot in 1980. We like the tradition of the Sooner Schooner and like the horses, but respect is earned in the SEC and we haven't quite warmed up to it yet. Oklahoma's mascot memorably tumbled over in 2019.
Sir Big Spur made his debut in 1999 and attends more than just home football games, which is a nice bonus. We are currently on Sir Big Spur VII, who is Old English Black Breasted Red Fighting Gamecock. Sir Big Spur will appear at events around South Carolina for $500 to $1,000 for 90 minutes.

England have named a 16-member squad for the first two Tests of the three-match series against Pakistan, which begins later this month and is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.
The squad marks the start of a new phase for England after the retirement of Ben Stokes and the departure of head coach Brendon McCullum.
Ollie Pope, Dan Lawrence and Sam Cook have all returned to the Test squad, while Jordan ******* is also back and is expected to bat at No. 3, according to The Guardian. ******* gets the opportunity after Jacob Bethell was ruled out of the series with an injury.
England are coming into the series after losing to New Zealand and will now begin life under returning captain Joe Root and interim head coach Marcus Trescothick.
Root, who was reappointed Test captain in July, will lead England for the first time since returning to the role. Fleming, who has been appointed as McCullum's replacement, will take charge from the Test series against South Africa in December.
The first Test begins at Headingley on August 19. England have named a 16-player squad, giving Root several options before deciding on the final XI.
133008880
One of the main selection decisions will be how to balance the side without a genuine all-rounder following Stokes' retirement.
Shoaib Bashir remains England's main spin option in the squad, while Lawrence's recall is not only because he is the leading run-scorer in Division One of the County Championship. He is set to bat at No. 6, but his off-spin could allow England to field four frontline fast bowlers at Headingley.

Queen Camilla is far from happy about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's return to the royal fold, but a source says King Charles III's wife is biting her tongue and deviously plotting ways to use the situation to her advantage.
"Camilla is a very shrewd woman," shares the source. "Everything she does is to serve her own interests and it's become clear that being loudly anti-Sussex is not going to go over well with the king, so she's very wisely smiling to their faces, but by no means is she truly welcoming their return."
That being said, "in many ways, they are the lesser of two evils for her because she knows Prince William is chomping at the bit to take over from his father," the source explains "When that happens, he's made it very clear Camilla's influence and status will be dramatically reduced."

The longer Charles, 77, remains on the throne, the better it is for Camilla, 79, reveals the source.

Real Housewives of Orange County alum Jeana Keough is nearing the end of her tongue cancer treatment, but she's making clear the fight is far from over.
According to a report Page Six published Thursday, July 30, Keough, 70, discussed her prognosis via email, writing, "It's upsetting to know that even after all this treatment, I still only have a 40 to 60 percent cure rate within the next five years. We're just praying that I'm on the good side of that coin flip."
She continued, "I can see the finish line now, but I'm hearing it's a long climb to recovery and that I'll likely have the feeding tube for two to six months."
Instagram / karakeoughboz
Keough also revealed that her diagnosis was delayed after what she described as a misdiagnosis by her longtime dentist. She stated that she initially sought treatment for a sore on her tongue, but her dentist believed one of her teeth was rubbing against it and repeatedly filed the tooth down over several visits rather than referring her to a specialist or recommending a biopsy.

A new rumor just made things a whole lot easier for the Los Angeles Dodgers if they decided to pursue a trade for the best pitcher in the game, Tarik Skubal.
With tongue firmly planted in cheek, the defending champion Dodgers surprisingly are a half game out from owning the best record in MLB as they head into their game on Wednesday night against the Philadelphia Phillies. Yet, what is most horrifying is LA isn't even at full strength and has some major reinforcments coming of the injured list soon.
That is why the idea of the Dodgers trading for Detroit Tigers ace Skubal seems laughable. However, according to Fan Sided's Robert Murray, "It's the question that everyone across baseball is wondering." LA doesn't need the two-time Cy Young. But with a lockout very possible after the season, and the team being the biggest hurt by the next collective bargainning agreement, why not go all in to achieve a rarity of winning a third straight World Series ***** le.
Well, if the Dodgers were to use their talent rich farm system to target a trade for the star pitcher, the team that could make just as a good an offer — the Milwuakee Brewers — is unlikely to do it according to Murray.
"I've advocated for the Brewers to make a splash — a Tarik Skubal-level splash — but I don't get the feeling that's overly likely."

INDIANAPOLIS — For four years, Lapel football coach Tim Miller has sent his quarterback onto the field with a tongue-in-cheek reminder of the color of the jerseys worn by the Bulldogs on a given night.

The state's fifth all-time leader in passing yardage took the field and found the right-colored jersey plenty of times.

UFC 329 features the highly anticipated return of Conor McGregor as he battles old foe Max Holloway on Saturday. In the pair's first side-by-side appearance in 13 years, tensions escalated quickly.
On Thursday, the promotion held its usual pre-numbered event press conference to hype the main and co-main events. For McGregor, stages like these were staples of his rise, displaying his silver tongue and quick wit. After five years away, he rematches Holloway, who lost to McGregor via unanimous decision in 2013 at featherweight.
Ahead of their welterweight bout Saturday, McGregor and Holloway got physical when going forehead-to-forehead, as McGregor tossed Holloway's sunglasses and slapped his hand.
Despite the interaction, Holloway remained in good spirits and didn't take McGregor's actions too seriously.
"I feel great. That was good fun. Typical Conor, we're fine, we're fine, we're fine," Holloway said.

"I feel great. That was good fun. Typical Conor, we're fine, we're fine, we're fine," Holloway said.

India's batting order was picked apart in Nottingham, as a dominant 125-run defeat to England became the heaviest loss the side has ever suffered in T20 internationals, stretching their winless streak on this UK tour and leaving skipper Shreyas Iyer still chasing his first win since taking charge.
With the fourth T20I in Bristol arriving almost immediately, India have precious little breathing room to process what went wrong before having to fix it.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir acknowledged after the Trent Bridge defeat that his team had struggled to read match conditions accurately, a recurring issue that has undermined their performances throughout this tour.
Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue, who together accounted for seven wickets, stuck to a straightforward but effective plan of bowling short of a good length, using extra pace and bounce to unsettle India's batters and force errors consistently.
India will need a smarter, more adaptive response against the same pace pairing if they hope to keep their series-levelling hopes alive.

Former England captain Ben Stokes has reignited speculation surrounding his retirement with a cryptic two-word social media post after reports emerged that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is investigating the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) over footage of his retirement announcement.
Stokes, who announced his decision to retire from international cricket during the Trent Bridge Test against New Zealand, shared a report about the ICC's allegations against the ECB on social media and added just two words: "Sack him..."
The brief post quickly went viral, triggering fresh debate among fans over whether Stokes' retirement was entirely his own decision or whether it came amid wider tensions within English cricket.
The controversy centres on footage filmed inside England's dressing room before play on the fourth day of the Trent Bridge Test, when Stokes informed his teammates that he would be retiring from international cricket.
The ECB later released the video, complete with audio, on social media and to broadcasters shortly before the tea interval while the Test was still in progress.
According to a BBC report, the ICC has contacted the ECB, alleging the publication may have breached its Players' and Match Officials' Areas (PMOA) minimum standards, which prohibit fixed or temporary recording equipment in dressing rooms for broadcasting purposes.
The governing body's regulations also state that footage captured in players' areas should not contain audio or be released before the conclusion of a match.
In a letter sent to the ECB, the ICC reportedly alleged that broadcasting Stokes' emotional dressing-room address before the Test had ended contravened those standards, which are designed to support the sport's anti-corruption framework.
Neither the ECB nor the ICC has publicly commented on the matter.
Stokes' decision to repost the report with the caption "Sack him..." immediately drew widespread attention online.
While the all-rounder offered no explanation for the remark, many supporters interpreted it as tongue-in-cheek, while others suggested it reignited speculation over the circumstances surrounding his retirement.
When announcing his retirement during the Trent Bridge Test, Stokes had explained that the timing of the public announcement was planned jointly by his management team and the ECB.
Shortly after news of his retirement became public, Stokes struck with his very next delivery, dismissing New Zealand's Zak Foulkes before bringing his international career to a close the following day.
The ICC's reported investigation comes at a sensitive time for English cricket, with the ECB also searching for a new Test captain ahead of the upcoming series against Pakistan following Stokes' retirement.

Zlatan Ibrahimović has never been one to mince his words. So why start now? In the time since retiring from active football, the Swedish superstar has also made a name for himself as a TV pundit on 'Fox Sports', among other things. As usual, he has been firing off one-liners left and right. A number of World Cup nations also got a taste of his sharp tongue after being knocked out of the tournament. Among them was the German national team.
For his punchy remarks, he also occasionally resorted to stereotypes.
"The USA are out. So your American Dream is over. Next time, call it football, not soccer, okay?"
"Portugal? Close. But close isn't enough."
"Mexico? Enjoy your tacos. Amigos, adios."

England's clash against Mexico is one of the games of the tournament so far, with Thomas Tuchel's men heading into enemy territory with a place in the World Cup quarter-finals on the line.
The Azteca has so far looked like this tournament's most intimidating venue, and the traveling English fans have their work cut out for them to match the hosts' energy.
They might get fired up quickly enough once they see the rather tongue-in-cheek gesture the Mexicans have left them in every single seat at the ground.
We have seen all three host nations benefit from home advantage at this tournament. Canada have exited after a 3-0 loss to Morocco, but not before putting in some quality performances on home soil, like the 6-0 win against Qatar.
The US topped their group, looking like one of the best teams in the tournament so far.

As someone who has been critical of WWE's booking of Oba Femi since WrestleMania, I hold my hands up on this one — they may have just redeemed themselves.
How foolish we all feel now, those of us who thought having "The Ruler" in the King of the Ring final was just a ploy to set up some kind of Brock Lesnar interference. To even say it out loud now feels humiliating, but some of us genuinely thought Jey Uso was going to beat Oba Femi on Saturday at Night of Champions.
To be fair, WWE did plant a few seeds to suggest that might be the case. Over on "Raw," we had the all-powerful Roman Reigns making it clear that he wanted to see his cousin challenging Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam. That seemed like a good sign that WWE might indeed crown King Jey in Riyadh, thus setting up a Bloodline-tastic angle at SummerSlam. Though it turned out it was just a red herring.
Here's another mea culpa: who among us genuinely expected that Femi vs. Uso would be a solid wrestling match? In all honesty, whoever produced this one knocked it out of the park. They managed to let Uso get some serious offense in, while still maintaining Femi's whole indestructible vibe. Among the hefty clotheslines and no-sells there were some moments of genius: Uso's acrobatic escape from Femi's first "Fall From Grace" was beautiful.
To cap it off, they opted for exactly the right finish: Femi managing to put his opponent down for the three-count after the first hit of his finisher. In storyline or otherwise, Uso should have no reason to feel ashamed of that performance — though no doubt he'll get a storyline tongue-lashing from Reigns on "Raw" nevertheless.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and elected to bat first in the decisive third Test against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on Thursday. However, the visitors have been dealt a significant setback ahead of the winner-takes-all contest, with two key players ruled out through injury.
The three-match series is finely poised at 1-1. England claimed the opening Test at Lord's by 115 runs before New Zealand responded emphatically with a crushing 253-run victory at The Oval. With valuable ICC World Test Championship points on offer, the Trent Bridge encounter will determine the series winner.
New Zealand have been forced into major changes after pace spearhead Matt Henry and star all-rounder Glenn Phillips were ruled out of the final Test. Henry, who starred in New Zealand's victory at The Oval and recently climbed to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test bowling rankings, misses out with a calf injury. Phillips, meanwhile, has been sidelined due to a side strain.
England have also shuffled their lineup following the heavy defeat in the second Test, with captain Ben Stokes returning to lead the side after being rested at The Oval. Fast bowler Gus Atkinson also returns, while wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith is back after missing the previous Test following the birth of his child. Spinner Shoaib Bashir has been recalled to strengthen England's spin options.
Despite being declared fit, Ollie Robinson has not been included in the playing XI.
New Zealand: Tom Latham (c), Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell (wk), Mitchell Santner, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, Ben Sears, William O'Rourke
England: Ben Duckett, Emilio Gay, Jacob Bethell, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jamie Smith (wk), Ben Stokes (c), Gus Atkinson, Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir

England have seen a friendly Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Tuchel in friendlies. Now they are getting a glimpse of Tournament Thomas; or perhaps, in his native tongue, Turnier Thomas.
The serious business has started but Tuchel is trying to blend greater intensity with a relaxed approach. The England manager has loved life at the World Cup so far. An opening victory over Croatia prompted suggestions that Tuchel's team were the finest side in the first round of fixtures. Tuchel may have got his personal balance right, his team talk at the interval in Dallas inspiring an immediate improvement.
The competitive juices are flowing for Tuchel. His prowess in knockout competitions was shown best when Chelsea won the Champions League in 2021. He can prosper under pressure, work well with a target. He has had 18 months to prepare for his first tilt at a global international tournament. He is enjoying it.
"I don't do anything extra. It just gives me a lot of energy to be at a World Cup, to have this tournament and be in competitive mode, to be surrounded by world-class players and fantastic personalities," Tuchel said. "It energises me."
England managers face a permanent test of how to react during a tournament. Fabio Capello was too strict, rendering his camp joyless. Sven-Goran Eriksson could seem too relaxed, too laissez-faire. Tuchel is trying to get the blend right; in part, for a man as charismatic as him, it is a question of how big a personality he is.

NEW DELHI: England have announced a 17-member squad for the five-match T20I series against India starting on July 1, with 22-year-old all-rounder James Coles receiving his first international call-up.
Harry Brook will captain the side, while Jordan **** , Sonny Baker and Saqib Mahmood return after missing the T20 World Cup earlier this year. Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton are unavailable because of injuries.
Coles, a left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder, has impressed in domestic cricket, the SA20 and with the England Lions. He was also the most expensive signing in the 2026 Men's Hundred and has scored over 1,300 runs in T20 cricket while taking 53 wickets.
National selector Marcus North said the youngster had earned his opportunity through consistent performances over the last year.
"James Coles is an exciting addition and has earned his place following his performances with the England Lions and in T20 competitions here and abroad during the past 12 months," said North.
"We have selected a larger squad to accommodate for the fact that this series will begin shortly after the Test series against New Zealand is due to conclude which allows us to be flexible."
England will have little time to rest before the India series, with Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell potentially playing the first T20I less than 48 hours after the conclusion of the third Test against New Zealand.
The five-match series begins in Durham on July 1 before moving to Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton. Jos **** ler, Jofra Archer, Phil Salt, Will Jacks and Adil Rashid are among the key names included in the squad.
