The Williams sisters were drawn Tuesday to face the team of Hao-Ching Chan and Joint, who beat Serena at Wimbledon this summer, in their opening women's doubles match at the U.S. Open.
Serena Williams, 44, returned this year after four years out of action and lost to Joint, a 20-year-old from Australia, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3. She injured her knee in the match and had to pull out of her planned doubles match at the All England Club with Venus, 46.
But they are set to compete at the U.S. Open, where the Williams sisters won the ****** le in 1999 and 2009 and are 27-7 in their nine appearances. They last played in 2022, losing in the first round in what was expected to be Serena's final match in Flushing Meadows.

There is always a winner in any major global oil crisis. In 1973/74, it was Saudi Arabia and its OPEC brothers who shifted the balance of power in the market away from the previous arrangement dominated by the West's 'Seven Sisters' to the oil producers of the Middle East. After the 2014-2016 Oil Price War, it was the U.S. whose earlier nascent shale oil sector resisted the threat to its very existence from Saudi Arabia and OPEC, reorganising into a meaner, leaner, lower-cost oil production machine. The U.S. was the winner again in the short-lived 2020 Oil Price War, and this, along with all the other major crises mentioned, is ****** ysed in full in my latest book on the global oil markets. The latest rupture in the global oil market order that followed the U.S.'s 'Operation Epic Fury' against Iran that began on 28 February has also produced a clear winner. It is neither the U.S., Saudi Arabia, nor the other OPEC states -- it is China. So, how inclined will Beijing be to heed Washington's newly announced sanctions on Iran ahead of the meeting of its President Xi Jinping with U.S. counterpart Donald Trump on 24 September at the White House?
The sanctions in question were announced on 20 August by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who stated they would be "the ‌toughest sanctions in history" on Iran, under the umbrella of 'Economic D-Day' for the country. The direct sanctions on Iran aim for the complete financial isolation and economic shutdown of the regime by cutting off all domestic and international revenue streams. To this end, the U.S. Treasury blacklisted five core sectors of Iran's economy -- Digital ****** ets/Crypto, Technology, Gold, Aviation, and Shipping -- making any business operating within them subject to immediate ****** et freezes. HENDERSON, Nev. — According to Little League Baseball, there are more than two million boys and girls from 80 countries playing Little League.

The odds of making it to the championship game of the Little League World Series is approximately 1 percent.

So here's to the 1 percenters, the Paseo Verde Little League of Henderson, Nevada, which defied the odds and made it to the final game of the season in South Williamsport, Pa. Sunday afternoon.

That Paseo Verde was defeated 11-2 by Curaçao shouldn't diminish the accomplishments of the boys and girl that started this improbable journey almost a month ago when it won its District tournament. It would win the Nevada state tourney, then go on and win the Mountain Regional, which is why you saw them in those gold and red uniforms with the lower case "M' on their caps at Lamade Stadium.

And this team was undefeated throughout and even had a 2-0 lead over Curaçao, an island nation of just over 185,000 that loves its baseball. You can see it in the exuberance displayed by its Little Leaguers on the field. They love to play the game as much as our kids from Henderson.

And if you were watching, how could you not marvel at the skill of these teams? So well schooled in fundamentals. So impressive in their mechanics and their IQ of the game. It's nice that elements like laying down a bunt, hitting a cutoff person and understanding the strike zone is not beyond the grasp of an 11- or 12-year-old. Paseo Verde turned six double plays in the LLWS.

Of course, it takes a village, as they say, to pull something like this off. In Little League, everyone is a volunteer. If you've had a kid play, you know the drill. Dads help prepare the fields before coaching. Moms man the snack shack and sit behind home plate keeping score. Grandparents, aunts and uncles keep an eye on the younger brothers and sisters. It's all about the kids, which is as it should be.

Every year, we read stories in the paper or watch a segment on local television of how the parents of the teams in Williamsport have been away from home for weeks, how they've had to take time off from work, how someone has to keep an eye on the house, arrange to get the mail, take care of the family pet. And it's the truth. There's a great deal of sacrifice involved to be part of a kid's summer baseball experience.

Same for the managers and coaches. They have families too and for them, it's no different than their players. Which is why when it ends, it's pretty painful emotionally speaking because you've invested so much in order to try and take it the distance.

But we know kids are resilient. As they return home to Southern Nevada, they'll do so as celebrities, be it at their school, their church or their neighborhood. There's probably going to be a parade for the Paseo Verde team, the United States Little League champions, and it figures to be a fun time. They'll carry memories of this amazing experience that will last a lifetime and 10, 20,

Shea Maher scored two goals inside the final five minutes to decide this Division I clash of contenders against North Kingstown. The Clippers left Perry Athletic Complex with all three points thanks to a talented newcomer.
Maher found the net in the 75th minute and converted a penalty kick soon after to push ***** berland over the top. The Skippers had no time to respond in a 2-0 opening defeat, a match that's been seemingly inevitable in November's playoffs multiple times in recent seasons.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly raised an objection with Sky Sports after former England captain Michael Atherton interviewed the two sons of Imran Khan during the lunch break on the opening day of the Test at Lord's.

According to Cricinfo, the PCB complained to the broadcaster over the decision to air the 18-minute interview with Suleiman Khan and Kasim Khan, which focused on their father's health and concerns over his safety in prison.

The episode created an unusual off-field controversy around the Test, with the PCB reportedly even considering whether Pakistan's players should remain off the field when play was due to resume for the second session.
Atherton conducted the interview with Suleiman and Kasim on Wednesday at Lord's, a day before the Test began. Sky Sports had also used a preview of the conversation in its coverage ahead of the match.

According to Cricinfo, the PCB contacted Sky Sports before lunch on Thursday and objected to the planned broadcast. The board reportedly warned that Pakistan's players could refuse to return to the field if the interview was aired.

Sky Sports initially held back the segment before eventually showing it during the lunch interval.

The interview was not broadcast in Pakistan because state broadcaster PTV holds the television rights for the series.
During their conversation with Atherton, Suleiman and Kasim discussed their concerns about their father's condition and safety while he remains in prison.

The brothers also spoke about their efforts to ensure that Imran receives appropriate medical treatment.

The former Pakistan captain and 1992 World Cup-winning skipper has been incarcerated for around three years, with his health and access to medical care becoming an increasingly prominent concern for his family.

His sons have stepped up their public calls for greater access to medical treatment in recent weeks.
The latest controversy comes after Pakistan's Supreme Court last week directed that Imran be admitted to Shifa Hospital in Islamabad.

However, instead of being taken to the hospital named in the directive, Imran was taken to the government-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a medical check-up before being returned to prison.

His sisters and sons have alleged that the authorities did not follow the court's directive. They have also continued to demand that Imran be examined by his own doctor.

The developments have prompted former international cricketers to publicly call for better medical care for the former Pakistan captain.
Last week, 21 former international captains, including Atherton, signed a letter to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urging authorities to ensure that Imran receives proper medical attention while in custody.

The signatories included former captains from India, Australia, England, New Zealand and the West Indies.

On Wednesday, Aug. 26, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman made a glamorous appearance at the premiere of Practical Magic 2 in London.

Bullock, 62, wowed in a strapless leopard-print Givenchy gown with a corseted bodice and large bow detail on the skirt. The look also featured a thigh-high slit.
The star teamed the dress with black heeled sandals and jewelry by Jessica McCormack. She wore her hair sleek and straight.

The actress wore a custom Chanel celadon-green bustier dress entirely embroidered with sequins and embellished with a cascade of intertwined chains and pearls.
Considering the film, I was half expecting Nicole to embrace a black, witchy mood for the premiere, so I'm glad she took us somewhere completely different. The celadon green feels fresh and unexpected, while the sequins, pearls and cascading chains still deliver the glamour I wanted from her.
