SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers are bringing back former All-Pro Deebo Samuel for a second stint after starting receiver Ricky Pearsall got sidelined by a knee injury.
A person familiar with the deal said Samuel agreed on Thursday to return to the 49ers on a one-year contract worth up to $7 million. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hadn't been announced.
NFL Network first reported the agreement.
Samuel spent his first six seasons with the 49ers after being drafted in the second round in 2019, helping the team reach the Super Bowl twice and earning All-Pro honors in 2021 when he had 1,770 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns.
Samuel was traded to Washington in 2025 for a fifth-round draft pick and had 72 catches for 727 yards and five TDs for the Commanders last season. He became a free agent in March and now will join the Niners to provide reinforcement with Pearsall out.

The pitchers the Rangers used: 1) Cole Winn, who is only still on the roster because he's out of options; 2) Marco Gonzales, who was out of baseball in 2025, was picked up in June after being released by the Padres after posting a 7.99 ERA in AAA, and who was promoted by the Rangers after putting up a 8.64 ERA for Round Rock; 3) Peyton Gray, was was pitching in Indy League ball in 2022 and 2023, and in the Mexican Pacific Winter League from 2022-25, before being signed by the Rangers prior to the 2025 season; 4) Robby Ahlstrom, who was in AAA and not on the 40 man roster at the start of the season; and 5) Ben Peoples, who has been pitching professionally since 2019, had never pitched above AA until 2025, and who made his major league debut for the Rangers this season after they acquired him from the ChiSox, for whom he was toiling in AAA.

SAN FRANCISCO, July 29 (Reuters) - Eliyan, a startup that aims to ease the bottlenecks in transferring data between AI chips in data centers, ‌said on Wednesday it had raised $145 million in venture funding at a $1 billion ‌valuation.
Cisco Systems, Lumentum and an early investor in networking pioneer Mellanox before its sale to Nvidia backed the raising, according to Santa Clara, California-based Eliyan.
The startup is developing technology aimed at the growing list of companies that are developing their own custom AI computing chips to compete with graphics processing units from Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices.
Regardless of who makes them, most AI chips today ‌face the same basic problem: They ⁠can process data much faster than they can send or receive it, which leaves pricey chips waiting and idle.

Santiago Castro is finally a Roma player.
The Argentine introduced himself with his first interview with the club.
"I wasn't expecting such a welcome; it was wonderful from the moment I arrived in the city. You could feel the fans' enthusiasm even when I came to play here. Bologna have officially announced their signing of centre-forward Artem Dovbyk on loan with an option to buy from Roma, following the news that Santiago Castro has moved in the opposite direction on a permanent transfer.
Recent reports indicate that Bologna have agreed to pay a fee of €3m to take Dovbyk on loan for the 2026-27 season and that they will have an option to make the transfer permanent for a further cost of €18m.
This move has gone through on the same day that Castro's move from Bologna to Roma was confirmed: The Giallorossi have signed the Argentine at a cost of €35m plus bonuses, with a 10% sell-on clause also included.
This marks the end of a two-year spell at the Stadio Olimpico for Dovbyk. The Ukrainian had joined in a €38m deal from Girona in the summer of 2024, following a 2023-24 season that saw him claim top scorer status in LaLiga.
Despite netting 12 goals from 32 appearances in his first season in Rome, Dovbyk's 2025-26 season was massively derailed by injury and fitness issues, which limited him to just 14 league outings across the season.

July 29 (UPI) -- Brazilian soccer sensation Neymar Jr. effectively confirmed he will no longer play in international matches.
Neymar made the announcement Tuesday after Santos beat Universidad Central in Santos, Brazil.
"I think my time with the ⁠national team has already passed," Neymar told reporters. "I made history there, and I'm very happy about it. I experienced a lot there, gave my blood and my life, and always fought and battled for the yellow jersey. But, I don't think I want it anymore."
Neymar, Brazil's all-time leading scorer, made his senior team debut in 2010. He went to the World Cup four times with the Brazilians, including their 2026 run to the Round of 16.
The 34-year-old Santos forward scored once and played for 55 minutes at the 2026 tournament. He also hinted earlier this month that his international career was nearing its end.

FC Barcelona have officially announced that young defender Joan Anaya has left the club to sign for UE Sant Andreu.
As part of the agreement with the Spanish third-division outfit, the Blaugrana will retain a percentage of any future sale of the La Masia defender.
"FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with Sant Andreu for the transfer of Joan Anaya. The club retains a percentage of any future sale," the club statement read.
Anaya, 21, had been at Barcelona since 2015, when he signed for La Masia from Reus Deportiu.

Roma have been searching for a wing-back for quite some time, even more so after Zeki Celik's about-face, and they have recently been focusing their efforts on Ivan Fresneda, while Abde Ezzalzouli has emerged as a candidate to shore up their frontline, Alfredo Pedullà reports.
The Giallorossi have spoken with Sporting CP and the defender's camp three times recently. His valuation is around €17/18M plus hefty bonuses. They haven't decided to push for him for the time being, but he's one of the few players on their list. He headed to Portugal from Real Valladolid for €9M in 2023 and has racked up 81 appearances, scoring 4 goals and dishing out 3 **** ists.
In addition to tracking Fresneda, Roma poked around Ezzalzouli, but he's as pricey as their other offensive targets, some of whom have fallen through. He has hit the net 29 times and provided 18 helpers in 128 games with Real Betis. He has starred 37 times with Morocco.
The Giallorossi haven't given up on trying to acquire Antonio Nusa, but the negotiation is very complex. Instead, on the wing, they placed a small bid for Club America's Israel Reyes. They tendered €2.5M, while the counterparty asked for a lot more, €7M, Mexican publication Excelsior reports. He's been a stalwart for his current team for the past 5 seasons, featuring 146 times.
They need multiple wingbacks after the Celik fiasco and likely won't be able to splurge for two, especially since their interest in signing a big-ticket attacker hasn't waned despite capturing Santiago Castro. Wesley and Devyne Rensch's versatility gives them flexibility, but they should decide where they prefer using the former before adding.

Niclas Fullkrug has been linked with a move to Lazio as Gennaro Gattuso searches for a new number nine. The experienced 33-year-old is reportedly eager to head to Rome, yet there are a few factors hindering the deal.
Firstly, while Fullkrug has been offered up to the uncertain Biancocelesti following his loan stint with AC Milan last term, he earns €3.5 million and would have to cut his salary to return to Italy.
Second of all, the German's single goal in 20 Serie A appearances hardly makes for good reading. In fact, as Corriere dello Sport confirm, Gattuso is eyeing up a loan-to-buy move for Milan's Santi Gimenez. The risk with that, however, is that it's a deal that can only be evaluated in late August, ****** uming the striker is still with the Rossoneri after struggles of his own.
Gattuso has quite the recruitment job on his hands. At the time of writing, this window sees him with an exposed defence and a blunt attack – one that only registered 41 goals last season.
Petar Ratkov could leave the club after a bleak spell on the team's fringes, despite Lazio shelling out €13 million to Salzburg for him. Plus, with the side's ninth-placed finish last term, there isn't exactly a huge transfer fund to dip into for what is a very expensive position.

After locking down a deal for Santiago Castro, it was expected that all of Tony D'Amico's efforts would turn back to finding a left wing that Gian Piero Gasperini has been yearning for. However, it appears that the next Giallorossi signing for the time being won't be Antonio Nusa or Abde Ezzalzouli to fill that need. Instead, reports indicate that Roma's next signing won't even play that far up the pitch.
In a move that came out of nowhere, Roma is expected to sign 22-year-old Greek defender Konstantinos Koulierakis of Wolfsburg. The deal was first reported by Ugo Trani of Te la do io Tokyo and is now being corroborated by Fabrizio Romano and others. The amount being bandied about is €15 million, and it's expected that Koulierakis would fill the role of vice-Hermoso.
Koulierakis is a left-footed center back who brings considerable experience for his age. He's made 59 Bundesliga appearances over the last two seasons, 35 appearances in the Greek Super League, and another 9 Europa Conference League appearances with PAOK prior to that. He's also already made 22 appearances for the Greek national team.
Koulierakis was purchased by Wolfsburg from PAOK for just under €12 million two summers ago. After proving his worth in Germany, Roma is ready to bring him to Italy to add depth to its rearguard. Perhaps most importantly, he is a left-footed defender in a back three dominated by right-footed players—aside from Hermoso, to whom Koulierakis will likely be an understudy.
Koulierakis is a fairly tall center back at 6'2" and defends well in the air. He's known for being a progressive passer, which makes him a good fit in Gasperini's system as a left-sided defender. He's also proven to be composed on the ball and comfortable defending in tight ******* es. Koulierakis has chipped in 4 goals and 3 ******* ists during his time at Wolfsburg. At just 22, he's got plenty of room for development under Gasperini's tutelage.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Yordan Alvarez homered and hit a go-ahead RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning to lift the Houston Astros to a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.
Christian Walker added a solo homer while Houston relievers Enyel De Los Santos, Bryan Abreu, Steven Okert and Josh Hader combined for four hitless innings. Okert (4-1) threw a scoreless eighth to earn the win and Hader threw a four-pitch ninth for his 14th save.

Mexico all but booked their ticket to the Quarterfinals of the CONCACAF U20 Championship after defeating Costa Rica by a 2-0 score. Mexico overcame going down to 10 players to get a victory that place them at 6 points, basically guaranteeing them to be at worst one of the two best third placed teams and thus the ticket to the Quarterfinals. Mexico will look to win the group against Guatemala on Thursday while Costa Rica faces off against Antigua and Barbuda earlier that day.
The 1st half started with Mexico coming out with most of the starting 11 from their opener against Antigua and Barbuda. Off a free kick, a cross into the area was almost deflected in by Gabriel Sibaja, as Costa Rica had the first chance of the match. Off a counter, Kionell Estrada got off a right footed shot in the area that went wide. A right footed shot from outside the area from Hugo Camberos went well wide. Both teams traded possession as the match became very even. A bad clearance allowed Matias Cordero to get the ball in the area but his shot was well saved by Mexico's goalkeeper, Juan Liceaga. After a harsh foul, there was a short scuffle between teams that ended with David Carro getting a Yellow card. The match continued to be extremely chippy as Mexico couldn't get going against Costa Rica's physical play. From outside the area, Samir Inda got off a great left footed shot that was deflected off the post. Mexico started to dominate possession as Costa Rica sat back and waited to counter. After a cross into the area was won by Santiago Sandoval, he would get brought down in the area by Adrian Espinoza and a Penalty Kick was given to Mexico. Hugo Camberos stepped up to take the PK and got off a thunderous right footed shot that went past Costa Rica's goalkeeper, Ian O'Rourke to score and give Mexico the 1-o lead. From outside the area, Juan Echivelstre got off a great right footed shot that forced O'Rourke to make a great save. Emmanuel Hernandez answered with a right footed shot from outside the area that Liceaga made a great save on it. The halftime whistle blew and after a slow start to the match, Mexico ended the half being the better team.
The 2nd half started with Mexico subbing out Carlos Hernandez for Yohan Orozco. Strangely three minutes into the half, Mexico subbed out Aldahir Valenzuela (possibly because of an injury) for Diego Reyes. A bad clearance from Liceaga ended up with him clearing the ball and kicking Sibaja in the face which earned him a straight red card. It was a terrible mistake from the goalkeeper that now placed the match in extreme danger with only 10 players. Mexico would sub out Juan Sigala for Cristo Navarrate, which because of the strange substitution of Valenzuela, meant that Mexico only had one window for subs for the rest of the match. Off a counter, Inda would make a great pass to Santiago Sandoval, whose left footed shot would be deflected by Emmanuel Brenes past O'Rourk and into the net to score and give Mexico the surprising 2-0 l

Santos had more scares than its fans expected at Vila Belmiro.
But it is through to the Copa Sudamericana round of 16, where it will face Ecuador's Macará.

The EU, **** an and Middle Eastern nations have all been ramping up defense budgets, too, creating real sector opportunities for portfolios. Capturing them, however, takes more than pure defense-category investing: It requires knowing where the money actually flows.
"The defense ecosystem is actually much larger than most investors think," said Chris Grisanti, chief market strategist at MAI Capital Management. "It can include industrial companies like autos — GM has a big defense business — and of course technology and communications companies."
