Serena Williams turned a frightening childbirth experience into a pointed conversation about women's healthcare. The tennis legend said her ordeal showed her how widespread those struggles had become.
Williams revisited the experience during the Forbes Power Women's Summit on September 10. She also connected her advocacy to motherhood, entrepreneurship and the example she wanted to set for her daughters.
Williams told Forbes Executive Vice President Moira Forbes that she initially misunderstood the scale of the problem. "When I told my story, I didn't realize how many people could relate," she said. "Then I realized it's a women's problem." She later delivered her bluntest punchline about childbirth. "If men were giving birth, they would have sweets [and] like all kinds of medicines," Williams said. She joked that the healthcare problem "wouldn't be the same" otherwise.
The 44-year-old faced life-threatening complications after delivering Alexis Olympia in 2017. Doctors performed an emergency C-section before a coughing fit reopened her wound. Williams previously detailed the ordeal in a 2018 CNN opinion piece. Doctors discovered a large abdominal hematoma before she developed a pulmonary embolism.
The condition triggered a six-day medical battle and multiple surgeries. Williams said her doctor listened when she knew something had gone wrong. "I knew something was wrong with me and it was super important that I was heard," she said. She credited her doctor and nurses with helping save her life.

'What they've done is laughable': Nasser Hussain says Pakistan have made things 'even worse' after PCB's Test team shake-up originally appeared on Cricket News. Add Cricket News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Nasser Hussain believes the PCB's chaotic Test team shake-up has turned Pakistan cricket into a global punchline.
The former England captain clarified his recent heavy criticism stemmed from frustration, not mockery.
Hussain contrasted the current squad's surrender with the fight shown by legends like Wasim Akram and Inzamam-ul-Haq.
The PCB's latest attempt to shake up their Test squad has gone exactly as well as expected, turning the team into a complete joke. Instead of trying to salvage the final match at Edgbaston, the board decided to send half of their players home.

With the news earlier this evening that Michael Lombardi has resigned as General Manager, WRAL has reported that UNC is still looking into a number of allegations surrounding the football program. The allegations are quite serious, and would almost certainly be enough for several more people to lose their jobs.
According to WRAL, lawyers are investigating whether defensive coordinator Steve Belichick used drugs while on the job or provided drugs to a player on the team. The younger Belichick has been on leave since over the summer for undisclosed reasons.
There is also an investigation into the existence of inappropriate relationships between recruiting staff and a player as well as ******* istant coaches and recruiting staff. WRAL notes that those questioned in the matter were asked whether or not they'd reported any issues to Bill Belichick.
If there is indeed validity to these claims, particularly if it is confirmed that Bill Belichick was made aware of what was going on within his program, it seems likely that the entire house of cards may fall. While it's clear that Lombardi was a real problem, the school is concerned enough that he was not the root of the entire problem to keep digging into what was going on in the Kenan Football Center.
Some of the allegations simply feel too big to recover from if they are proven to be true. It's a significant black eye on the program and the university that there is enough smoke to even reach this point. Almost the entire Bill Belichick Experience has been a punchline in the college football world, and all of the detractors were just given a boatload more fuel for the fire.

Jelly Roll has taunted President Donald Trump, calling him a "fat pig".
The Grammy winner got a few things off his chest as a guest host on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night and joked he had lost so much weight in recent years, it was equivalent to an "entire Donald Trump".
In his opening monologue, Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, explained that, as Donald, 80, had reportedly recently gained weight, the president was "now tipping the scales at almost 240".
"In the last few years I've lost 300lbs," Jelly Roll, 41, shared. "That means I've lost an entire Donald Trump."
The 41-year-old country-rap star then added the punchline, "And let's be honest, based on his approval ratings, it seems like most of the country wants to do the same thing", to raucous audience applause.
Jelly Roll then played a highlights reel of Donald mocking overweight people and describing former New Jersey governor Chris Christie as "a fat pig" and "a big fat slob" - which Jelly Roll joked was a case of "the pot calling the kettle fat".

There is a reason why the Royal Rumble is still a big draw in the WWE, and it's not just about who is left standing at the end. The start of the match sees some of the lesser known and sometimes flat out mediocre wrestlers bouncing off of each other and all fighting in the midst of pure chaos. It's beautiful in its own way.
Speaking of which, the AFC and NFC South will crown a champion this season in the NFL.
It's not to say that the winner from either division can't go on to a deep playoff run and possibly even a Super Bowl. But there is almost certainly going to be a brawl to even reach the postseason with basically every team arguing a legitimate point on why they can be division champs.
The AFC South feels like it is entirely composed of teams that both need to put up or shut up and would scare just about any other team in the postseason. The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off of a resurgent season and appear comfortable with both their head coach and quarterback. The Houston Texans are clearly all in on the season and will need to return to their 2024 level of play. The Indianapolis Colts hope a fully healthy season can keep their talent at a higher level and get back to the postseason. While the Tennessee ******* ans hope to surprise the world with a big step forward.
The NFC South has been the punchline of the NFL for a few years now, but with a division full of young teams it could be the year one of the teams break's out as a real contender. The Carolina Panthers shook things up last year by winning the division and hope their young quarterback can continue to progress. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers believe they have the pieces but this might be the final year of their window. The Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints are both building back their roster full of young players in a division that they could take.

Adam Vinatieri on Bill Belichick's absence at HOF: 'He's judging his girlfriend's cheerleading competition' originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Hall of Fame speeches always have their fair share of humility and humor, and former New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri emphasized the latter during his time on the podium in Canton, Ohio.
It's no secret that Bill Belichick has quite the age gap with his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson. It's been the punchline of many jokes around the football world, with Vinatieri adding his name to the list of jokers.
Vinatieri noticed ahead of time that his old coach would not be present at the Hall of Fame induction, and the NFL's all-time leading scorer capitalized on the opportunity.
Here's what the former New England kicker said about his old coach's youthful girlfriend.

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - AUGUST 02: Owner Steve Cohen of the New York Mets talks with members of the media prior to a game between the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on August 02, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by Ed Zurga/Getty Images)
For much of the 2026 season, the New York Mets have found themselves at the center of trade speculation, front-office scrutiny and one of the most disappointing stretches in franchise history. With one of baseball's highest payrolls failing to produce consistent results, frustration has followed the club into the second half.
That backdrop unexpectedly spilled into politics this week, when President Donald Trump used the Mets as the punchline while praising a longtime Atlanta Braves executive during a public appearance in Georgia. The remark came as the Mets continue battling through a historic losing streak and questions surrounding the direction of owner Steve Cohen's high-priced roster.

Rosie O'Donnell says she has PTSD after spending 20 years as a punchline for Donald Trump.
While talking to People this week, O'Donnell explained that her life has been "very trippy" following years of being a constant target for the reality TV show host-turned-President of the United States. It even led to her having a bit of post-traumatic stress disorder dealing with her "archnemesis" becoming the most powerful man in the world.
"It used to be when our president would say things about me, it would be like, 'Whoa,'" O'Donnell said. "First of all, if you had written this as a movie, a stand-up comic makes fun of a reality show host who is a bloviating idiot and he ends up being the president, and then he doesn't shut up about her for 20 years, it would be unbelievable — and the fact that it's my life is very trippy."
"It's like a post-traumatic stress disorder for me, considering it's been 20 years of him using me as a punchline," she added. "I think that has allowed me to reclaim myself, who I was before all that went down, even though it's very strange to have supposedly the most powerful man in the world be your archnemesis."
O'Donnell decamped to Ireland from the U.S. following Trump's reelection as president in 2024. "I am softer, I think, as a result of being there," she shared, "of the welcome that we got, and as a result of me not being constantly bombarded by news about the current president."

Rosie O'Donnell may have moved to Ireland, but she hasn't distanced herself from a longstanding public feud with President Donald Trump.
In a new interview with People magazine, the comedian likened her decades-long quarrel with Trump to "20 years of him using me as a punchline."
Trump and O'Donnell's feud dates back to 2006, when the latter was a host on "The View." She criticized Trump as a "snake oil salesman" in connection to his ownership of the Miss USA competition at the time, setting off years of back-and-forth spats between the two.
In 2025, as Trump began his second presidency, O'Donnell revealed she moved to Ireland to escape the United States' political climate. The president has since threatened to revoke O'Donnell's birthright citizenship on multiple occasions.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Jimmy Carter used to be one of President Donald Trump 's favorite political targets, a catchall foil for ****** less Democrats that he could jeer at to make himself look strong and decisive.
But lately, Trump's sentiments on the 39th president have become more wistful as he faces some of the same challenges the late Carter did.
Those include the war in Iran with no end in sight — and now escalating as the U.S. moves to control the Strait of Hormuz — and inflation, a drag on the economy Trump hasn't tamed despite long insisting that his business background would wipe it out.
The comparison seems to be on Trump's mind, too. Asked last month why he didn't dispatch U.S. Special Forces into Iran to forcibly remove its enriched uranium, he responded, "I didn't feel like being Jimmy Carter."
That recalled the failed 1980 raid to free U.S. hostages that killed eight American servicemen. Trump also said in March that the unsuccessful mission "cost them the election" against Ronald Reagan in 1980, sounding cognizant of political realities in a way he didn't when using Carter as a punchline.

Jalen Brunson has all of New York at his feet, and now even the city's planning officials are getting in on the act.
The New York Knicks ended a championship wait stretching back to 1973 with their Finals win over the San Antonio Spurs, and Brunson — the point guard who carried them there — has become the most celebrated man across the five boroughs.
Fans have been demanding something permanent to mark it, with a statue the favorite suggestion. The NYC Planning Commission, it seems, had grander plans in mind — or wanted everyone to think so for a few seconds.
Posting on X, the official NYC Planning account opened Tuesday's update with a line built to make Knicks fans do a double take. "Today at the City Planning Commission," it began, before teasing a zoning amendment to establish "the Jalen Brunson Special District in Midtown."
The punchline was the map. The proposed district's outline bore a striking resemblance to the Larry O'Brien Trophy — the very prize the Knicks had just lifted.
