Even though they've got one of the most difficult schedules in the Big 12 and mighty Notre Dame visits Provo in the middle of October with its sights set on a national championship run, hype for the BYU Cougars in 2026 is through the roof.
Why not?
BYU has gone 23-4 overall in the past two seasons, just missing out on College Football Playoff appearances in 2024 and 2025, and returns almost all of the key ingredients from the outfit that won 12 games last year, most notably quarterback Bear Bachmeier and running back LJ Martin.
"That's the challenge this year, not feeling like we've arrived or done anything special, because we haven't won a game yet. I think these guys also know that everything people say, good or bad, is nonsense, really. All that matters is what you do in the game."

Brazil won its second eFootball ***** le this Saturday (22) by defeating the FIFAe Nations League Console at Nave do Conhecimento, in Rio de Janeiro. DENPASAR, Indonesia (AP) — A court on the Indonesian resort island of Bali sentenced a Swiss tourist on Thursday to one year in prison for insulting a sacred Balinese Hindu observance.
Luzian Andrin Zgraggen, 26, was found guilty of violating Indonesia's new criminal code by posting social media messages about the Day of Silence, when people are required to stay home and are urged to remain silent and meditate.
The Denpasar District Court determined that he posted the messages even after staff at the villa where he was staying informed him of the restrictions.
"What the defendant did offended the Balinese people, hurt their faith and provoked public outrage," said presiding judge Tjokorda Putra Budi Pastima. "The defendant must be held accountable for his actions."
The Day of Silence, locally known as Nyepi, usually falls in March. For a day, the island's world-famous beaches and streets are empty of people except for special patrols meant to ensure silence is observed. Jack Coleman is remembering Hayden Panettiere not only as the actress who played his daughter on Heroes, but as a teenager whose extraordinary talent and rapid rise to fame exposed her to pressures he believes no young performer should have faced.
Coleman, who played Noah Bennet opposite Panettiere's Claire Bennet on the NBC drama, shared an emotional tribute after her death at 36. He recalled meeting her while filming the Heroes pilot, when she greeted him by shouting "daddy" and throwing her arms around him.

Detroit – Tigers' television broadcaster Jason Benetti, as he does, asked manager AJ Hinch a thought-provoking question before the game Saturday.
It was Hinch's 933rd game at the helm of the Tigers, which tied him for fifth most in club history with Steve O'Neill (1943-1948) and a guy named Ty Cobb (1921-1926). Cobb, of course, was a player-manager.
"One of the few times in my career I've been mentioned with Ty Cobb," Hinch said.
Benetti asked Hinch what he would be like as a player-manager.
"I'd play myself against a lefty," he said. "Though I don't think I could catch up to (White Sox starter Anthony) Kay's fastball. But that is one thing I would recommend to the manager side of me. I'd also pinch-hit for myself, which shouldn't surprise anybody."

PORTLAND, Ore. — Lexi Thompson's semi-retirement is about to get a lot more busy. She announced Tuesday she's going to be a mother.
Thompson, who has 11 LPGA victories including a major when she was 19, got married earlier this year and posted on Instagram a photo with husband Max Provost and photos of the sonogram of a girl due in February.
"The best chapter of our lives is just beginning and we are so blessed and grateful. Baby girl, we already love you more than you'll ever know," she wrote.
Thompson is playing this week in the Standard Portland Classic, her first tournament since the Dow Championship team event in June. She announced at the U.S. Women's Open in 2024 that year would be her last full season. She played 13 times last year and reached the Tour Championship.
Thompson's last LPGA ****** le was in 2019.

Because there's a newcomer to the football team, a freshman receiver, named Legend Glasker who just might be the next big thing in Provo. Glasker, a three-star recruit (247Sports) who graduated from nearby Lehi High last December so he could enroll early at BYU, was one of the breakout stars in spring camp and has picked up where he left off this month in preseason training camp.

A former Nebraska women's basketball coach has acknowledged engaging in a five-month ***** ual affair with a player he supervised on the Nebraska team but said it was consensual and is now making an argument in court that he should be dismissed from that player's lawsuit against him, according to documents obtained by USA TODAY Sports.
The coach is former Cornhuskers ***** istant coach Chuck Love, who is being sued by the player, Ashley Scoggin, as part of a ***** le IX lawsuit in federal court. Scoggin sued Love and Nebraska in 2024, alleging she was groomed to have a ***** ual relationship with Love and then was kicked off the team after their relationship was uncovered in a ruse at a team hotel in February 2022.
In response, Love filed a motion for summary judgment July 31 that would drop him from the lawsuit if successful. This motion argues while he had a ***** ual relationship with Scoggin at Nebraska, it was consensual and doesn't violate the constitution.
"Plaintiff (Scoggin) and Love engaged in a consensual ***** ual relationship from September, 2021 – February, 2022," said the brief filed with the motion from Love's attorney, Denise Frost. "They told no one about it. Love did not make, imply or impose threats, retaliation or adverse consequences on Plaintiff in order to have ***** ual contact with her. Plaintiff never told Love 'no' to ***** ual contact or refused to engage with him."
Love's supporting brief said Scoggin initiated and engaged Love in ***** ually charged conversations and created provocative nude and semi-nude photos of herself and sent them to Love on Snapchat. PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Lexi Thompson's semi-retirement is about to get a lot more busy. She announced Tuesday she's going to be a mother.
Thompson, who has 11 LPGA victories including a major when she was 19, got married earlier this year and posted on Instagram a photo with husband Max Provost and photos of the sonogram of a girl due in February.
"The best chapter of our lives is just beginning and we are so blessed and grateful. Baby girl, we already love you more than you'll ever know," she wrote.
Thompson is playing this week in the Standard Portland Classic, her first tournament since the Dow Championship team event in June. She announced at the U.S. Women's Open in 2024 that year would be her last full season. She played 13 times last year and reached the Tour Championship.

A fashion label called Fecal Matter is having a moment.
Matières Fécales — literally French for "fecal matter" — has gone from an intentionally provocative outsider project to dressing some of the world's biggest celebrities, including Zendaya, Lady Gaga, Demi Moore and Kylie Jenner.
And yes, the name is intentional.
Canadian designers Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran founded the label after meeting as fashion students in Montreal. Frustrated with an industry they viewed as wasteful, exclusionary and obsessed with consumption, the pair wanted a name that reflected their criticism of it.
They landed on Matières Fécales — not the more familiar French "merde," or "caca," but the considerably more clinical term for fecal matter.

Back when BYU bolted the Mountain West Conference after the 2010-11 academic year and went independent in football, one of its former conference rivals most upset after the departure was Colorado State.
The Rams, who had been pummeled 49-10 by BYU in 2010, were among the schools who publicly questioned whether they would ever play BYU again, in any sport.
"It's unfortunate," then-CSU athletic director Paul Kowalczyk told the Denver Post on Aug. 31, 2010. "I hate to see BYU go, on one hand. But, on the other hand, the Mountain West is a strong conference with the recent additions of Nevada, Fresno State and Boise State. It puts us in a position as a conference to get better and have a BCS (Bowl Championship Series) shot."
It was somewhat surprising, then, when BYU and Colorado State agreed to a two-game football series on Sept. 25, 2024, with the first game to take place next month in Fort Collins and the second game to take place in 2029 in Provo.
Time heals all wounds, apparently.

Princess Anne seems determined to reclaim the crown of 'Britain's hardest-working royal' after King Charles **** ed the honour from her in 2025.
So, while other royals started their summer break, the Princess Royal was continuing to carry out engagements, with the royal attending a rehearsal for the Royal Edinburgh Military Air Tattoo, which is due to start on Friday.

The proposal to sell a 20% stake in a new commercial rights entity to private investors in a deal that would have raised about $4.2 billion provoked a fierce backlash and was withdrawn last Friday.
Infantino bore the brunt of the criticism, including some from inside FIFA, which raised questions over his re-election as president next March.
"Following a meeting in Rabat, Morocco, the FIFA Secretary General and members of the FIFA management board in attendance reaffirmed their full support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino," the statement said.

There's no debate over who's going to be RB1, as LJ Martin enters his fourth and final season at BYU with some reachable school records in sight if he maintains the pace he established in 2025 before missing the 25-21 win over Georgia Tech in the Pop-Tarts Bowl after shoulder surgery.
Even the five spots on the offensive line are mostly settled, especially if Washington transfer Paki Finau proves capable at the all-important left tackle position.

Nate Rouette and his brother Nelson went shark fishing on Cape Cod hoping for an exciting catch, but were shocked by what they reeled in -- a tropical species of shark with a reputation for eating everything it can swallow.
The brothers, longtime sport fishermen who live in Massachusetts, released a juvenile tiger shark in late July after catching it from a beach. The five-foot shark is far more common in warmer, southern waters such as the Caribbean Sea, and scientists said its appearance off Falmouth, Massachusetts, is an indicator of warming seas caused by climate change.
Nate and Nelson said the late-night catch was a thrill after hours of seeking far more common brown sharks.
"And I saw those horizontal lines, indicating it was a tiger shark, which was super cool," said Nate, who is the social media manager for On The Water magazine. "Immediately I started yelling to my brother, 'It's a tiger, it's a tiger shark!' And he was in disbelief."
The Rouette brothers caught a young specimen of a shark that can grow to more than 15 feet (4.6 meters) and 1,400 pounds (635 kilograms). Tiger sharks eat a wide array of other ocean life, including fish, crustaceans and birds, and are famous for sometimes eating man-made items such as old license plates and shoes that are later found in their stomachs. The adults are also more dangerous to humans than most shark species, though unprovoked fatal bites are rare.

The five-foot shark is far more common in warmer, southern waters such as the Caribbean Sea, and scientists said its appearance off Falmouth, Massachusetts, is an indicator of warming seas caused by climate change.
Nate and Nelson said the late-night catch was a thrill after hours of seeking far more common brown sharks.
"And I saw those horizontal lines, indicating it was a tiger shark, which was super cool," said Nate, who is the social media manager for On The Water magazine. "Immediately I started yelling to my brother, 'It's a tiger, it's a tiger shark!' And he was in disbelief."
The Rouette brothers caught a young specimen of a shark that can grow to more than 15 feet (4.6 meters) and 1,400 pounds (635 kilograms). Tiger sharks eat a wide array of other ocean life, including fish, crustaceans and birds, and are famous for sometimes eating man-made items such as old license plates and shoes that are later found in their stomachs. The adults are also more dangerous to humans than most shark species, though unprovoked fatal bites are rare.

A lot has happened in the time between Brooks Bahr's commitment to and actual arrival at BYU.
Bahr signed with the Cougars in November 2023, as Mark Pope was leading the program into its inaugural Big 12 campaign.
Since then, Pope went to Kentucky and was replaced in Provo by Kevin Young, who has won 60% of his Big 12 matchups, reached a Sweet 16 and produced two first-round NBA draft selections — all while Bahr served as a missionary in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
"I think he's got the physicality to do well in our league. What I've seen out of his offensive game, he's a guy who can dribble, pass and shoot, stuff I've been talking about for a while. So I think he'll fit in, he'll fit in well."
