Carlos Prates has admitted he expects to get "smashed" by Islam Makhachev for periods of their fight, should they clash over the UFC welterweight ******* le – but he believes he will ultimately knock out the Russian.
Prates is seen as the likeliest contender to face Makhachev next, given he is 7-1 in the UFC with seven knockout wins, including stoppages of former champions Jack Della Maddalena and Leon Edwards.
Makhachev last fought in August, outpointing Ian Machado Garry, the only man to beat Prates in the UFC. With that win, the 34-year-old Russian confirmed his status as the UFC's pound-for-pound No 1 fighter.

Still, Prates is confident that Makhachev would suffer the same fate as so many others, if he fought the Brazilian, 33.

Borussia Dortmund's U21 team will face Fulham's U21 team on Wednesday evening in the Premier League International Cup. Among those named in BVB's squad, is notably Luca Reggiani, who broke into Die Schwarzgelben's first team towards the end of 2025/26.
Reggiani, who started last season in the U19 league, also featured in the UEFA Youth League before becoming a regular in Niko Kovac's side towards the end of the season. The 18-year-old Italian defender played 513 minutes across eight Bundesliga games, and also completed a full 90 minutes in the UEFA Champions League, featuring in their 2-0 victory over Serie A outfit Atalanta.
In addition to Reggiani, Ruhr Nachrichten report that Justin Lerma, Kauã Prates and Mathis Albert will also bolster Daniel Rios' U21 squad. Additionally, all four are expected to start against Fulham, while a good performance here could make a case for them being in Dortmund's first team. Particularly Reggiani, who is fighting for his long-term future, with Filippo Mane seemingly ahead of his compatriot in the pecking order.

Carlos Prates had a front-row seat to the action at UFC 330 in Philadelphia this past Saturday. With his sights firmly set on the victor, Prates watched intently as UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev defended his **** le against Ian Machado Garry.
In the end, it was Makhachev who walked away with a hard-fought unanimous decision to secure his first defense of the 170-pound **** le. The competitive affair left Brazil's Prates optimistic and excited to challenge the reigning pound-for-pound superstar Makhachev.
Speaking Tuesday's on "The Ariel Helwani Show," Prates revealed that he had a conversation with UFC CBO Hunter Campbell while in Philadelphia — and according to the top-ranked knockout artist, Prates is indeed next in line.
"I'm the next for the **** le. New contract. The next one for the **** le, let's go," Prates told Uncrowned.
"Eight fights [on the new contract]. ... I think [Michael Morales] is going to fight Belal Muhammad or somebody, another fighter. Maybe, I don't know, but another fight."

Who will Islam Makhachev fight next following his UFC 330 win over Ian Machado Garry? The UFC made it clear that there are two potential contenders. The crowd cam repeatedly switched back and forth between Carlos Prates and Michael Morales, with the commentary team bigging both men up as deserving of a ***** le shot.
At the UFC 330 post-fight press conference, Islam Makhachev asked an obvious question: "Why they not fight on this card to see who is the number one contender?"
Why not, indeed. Possibly because the UFC loves having two contenders around so they can offer the fight to the less picky, less demanding choice. Since that's a prisoner's dilemma that leaves both men racing to the bottom, it looks like Michael Morales would rather fight to figure out who the true No. 1 contender is.
"If the guy have two arms, two legs, one ***** like me, bro, I can fight him," Prates declared regarding Morales' challenge. "He said I'm scared about him? I'm not scared to fight you, I'm the No. 1 contender so I want to fight for the belt. UFC never offered a fight against you. If they offer me, of course I will knock you out really fast. First round."
"So don't worry. You gonna fight and I'm gonna knock you out. But now, wait. Get my belt, and then we can fight."

This is the UFC 330 live blog for Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Machado Garry, the welterweight championship main event Saturday at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
Islam Makhachev reigns as the No. 1-ranked fighter in the MMA Fighting Pound-for-Pound Rankings, while Garry is tied with Michael Morales for the No. 3 spot at 170 pounds in our Global Rankings.
Not only is Makhachev (28-1) looking to join Henry Cejudo, Daniel Cormier, Jon Jones, and Amanda Nunes as the only fighters in UFC history to successfully defend ****** les in two weight classes, he also goes for his 17th straight win, which put him in sole possession of the promotion's longest-ever win streak, passing the legendary Anderson Silva. Makhachev already holds the record for the most successful UFC lightweight ****** le defenses (4) and captured welterweight gold this past November with a dominant decision win over Jack Della Maddalena.
Garry (17-1) has long touted himself as a future UFC champion and the time is now for him to put his money where his mouth is. The brash Irishman won his first eight UFC fights before losing a decision to Shavkat Rakhmonov, but has bounced back with consecutive victories over former champion Belal Muhammad and top contender Carlos Prates. Though Garry is a live underdog, dethroning Makhachev would unquestionably send major ripples through the MMA world.
Check out the UFC 330 live blog for Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Machado Garry below.

Borussia Dortmund held to a 2-2 draw at home against AS Roma on Saturday. All four goals were scored inside the first half-hour as Niko Kovac's side came from a two-goal deficit to avoid defeat in front of home fans at Signal Iduna Park (Westfalenstadion).
Paulo Dybala put the visitors ahead before **** isting Bryan Cristante's goal from a corner-kick delivery in the 9th minute. On his first appearance back from an injury he suffered at the World Cup, Julian Ryerson did the same in the next 20 minutes.
The Norwegian scored from close range after fellow World Cup participant Daniel Svensson's cutback in the 12th minute. Serhou Guirassy equalized for Dortmund from Ryerson's typical set-piece delivery.
The hosts had the best chances for the rest of the game, but they were unable to find a winning goal. Konstantinos Karetsas, Joane Gadou, Justin Lerma, Kauã Prates and Takato Yamamoto all made their home debuts as Dortmund introduced the new players to the fans before kickoff.
While FC Bayern will play against Heidenheim in midweek, Dortmund's next game will be against the Rekordmeister in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.

Demian Maia has made a career out of squeezing people's necks in a cage to earn two ******* le shots in the UFC, and now uses all that knowledge and skill in a new role as MMA coach. After being part of Charles Oliveira's camp for a one-sided victory over Max Holloway earlier this year, it's time for Ian Machado Garry to shock the world against welterweight champion Islam Makhachev.
Garry challenges Makhachev in the main event of UFC 330, which goes down Saturday night in Philadelphia, and attempt to snap what would be a record-breaking 17th straight UFC victory. For Maia, it's a fascinating "puzzle at an extremely high level of fighting."
"You have a guy with elite wrestling — and why not say a level of jiu-jitsu mixed in with the wrestling of Sambo, at an exceptional level —, along with a champion's mindset," Maia told MMA Fighting. "He's going to fight another guy who also has tremendous tactical intelligence, a very high level of striking, exceptional distance control, and increasingly better jiu-jitsu."
Garry earned his shot by beating Carlos Prates and ex-champion Bella Muhammad in back-to-back fights, losing only once as a profession in a short-notice clash with Shavkat Rakhmonov. The welterweight Irishman has a long reach and height advantage over the champion, and Maia sees that as a potential key to victory.
"I think it's a very open fight," Maia said. "I think Ian has the size advantage. He's bigger and — and this is kind of obvious to say — the advantage in the striking. I think he has an advantage because that's his area. He's very technical, but he has distance control that very few guys have. We saw that in the Carlos Prates fight and in the MVP fight, which is an extremely difficult matchup, and in the fight with Belal, a former champion.

This weekend, pound-for-pound No 1 Islam Makhachev defends his welterweight ****** le against Ian Machado Garry in the main event of UFC 330.
The bout marks Makhachev's first defence of the belt, which he won by dominating and outpointing Jack Della Maddalena in November, after giving up the lightweight belt following a record-breaking four successful defences.
And the Russian, 34, faces an intriguing test against the divisive Machado Garry, 28, who enters the fight with just one professional loss to his name.

The Irishman bounced back from that narrow points defeat by Shavkat Rakhmonov with wins over ex-champ Belal Muhammad and Carlos Prates, and he enters UFC 330 full of confidence.

IslamMakhachev is far more comfortable competing at welterweight andwon't move back down to 155 pounds.

Makhachev (28-1) defended the Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight **** le four timesbefore moving up to welterweight. He dominantly dethroned JackDella Maddalena to win the 170-pound **** le last year and is nowscheduled to defend it against Ian Garry(17-1) at UFC330 on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
Makhachev's coach, Javier Mendez, doesn't believe his fighter willswitch between weight classes and is likely done with lightweightentirely. Mendez recently revealed that the champion has gainedfive kilos (11 pounds) of muscle since moving up to welterweightand isn't looking to move back down.

"He's gained five kilos of muscle and feels better atwelterweight," Mendez told Alvaro Colmenero. "He prefers thisweight class. I don't think he'll ever fight at lightweight."

Notably, Makhachev has previously stated that he can compete atmiddleweight as well. When Dricus DuPlessis was the 185-pound champion, then-lightweight kingMakhachev claimed that if the UFC offered him a **** le fight againstthe South African, he would gladly accept. However, the Russianhasn't mentioned middleweight since moving up, shining a light on170-pound contenders like CarlosPrates instead.

Fighting Nerds teammates Jean Silvaand CaioBorralho seemingly disagree on how the upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight ***** le fight willplay out.

IanGarry (17-1) is scheduled to challenge IslamMakhachev (28-1) for the 170-pound ***** le at UFC330 on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. Whilethe reigning champion is a massive betting favorite, many fightershave picked Garry to pull off an upset.
While Silva is backing Garry to come out on top, he admits thatsupporting the Irishman is challenging, likely referring to histeammate CarlosPrates' loss to "The Future" last year.

"I like Ian Garry, I prefer Ian Garry," Silva said in a recentinterview. "I have little problem for my team."

Meanwhile, Borralho shook his head in disagreement as Silva weighedin on the fight.

Garry has nine wins in the UFC and has only lost to ShavkatRakhmonov, who is currently sidelined as he recovers frominjury. The former Cage Warriors champion has beaten the likes of Prates, BelalMuhammad, Geoff Nealand NeilMagny.

Meanwhile, Makhachev is on a 16-fight winning streak, tied withAndersonSilva for the longest in UFC history. The Dagestani championdefended the lightweight ***** le four times before moving up towelterweight and dethroning JackDella Maddalena.

Hope you all had a great weekend! I haven't written in a while, so here's what's going on in BVB land:
Normally, I wouldn't really care about a win in a preseason friendly, but after so much acrimony among the fan base after BVB's lackluster friendly performances in **** an, I'm happy to see a positive result, especially against an **** nal team that had quite a few of its elite players in the lineup.
There are many young players who have a very strong chance of playing big minutes this season. Several of them were in the squad today, and they gave us fans many reasons to be excited. Everyone will speak highly of Konstantinos Karestas and his wonder-goal, but I was even more impressed by Samuele Inacio. He was using his pace very effectively throughout the game, and was positioned perfectly to finish a chance set up by Felix Nmecha. On the defensive end, Joane Gadou had a terrific game, looking right at home defending against players like Viktor Gyökeres and Kai Havertz.
On the negative side, I do not think that this experiment of playing Maximilian Beier at wing-back has legs. It's not that he's a horrible defender, but I just don't like giving one of our more talented attacking players so much defensive responsibility. Beier only had 19 touches in 59 minutes and had essentially no offensive impact. Kauã Prates also came on for a cameo and conceded a pretty sloppy penalty.
The **** nal YouTube channel posted the game's highlights:

IanGarry is drawing inspiration from SeanStrickland ahead of his maiden **** le bid in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Garry (17-1) believes he can pull off an upset and emergevictorious when he takes on welterweight champion IslamMakhachev (28-1) in the main event of UFC 330at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia on Aug. 15. The Irishman ishigh in confidence, especially considering the last two numberedevents ended in big upsets.
Garry questions those who aren't giving him a chance againstMakhachev and points to Strickland's win over the previouslyunbeaten KhamzatChimaev at UFC328.

"If people think when Sean Strickland goes out and beats KhamzatChimaev and upsets the apple cart, and no one expected, no one cansit here and think that it's impossible that I can beat IslamMakhachev," He told Paul Browne.

"The Future" added that he's a far more well-rounded fighter thanStrickland and that the combination of his skills and intelligencewill be challenging for Makhachev to handle.

"If anything, I'm a far more dangerous threat. I'm far morecomplete and I have way, way, way more ways of winning that fight.I am the most dangerous opponent for Islam Makhachev, and it's myjob to go out and prove that. My mindset, my vision, and my fightIQ… Three things that can't be taught. You either have them or youdon't."

Garry is coming off decision wins over former champion BelalMuhammad and Carlos Prates, while Makhachev won the welterweighttitle by beating JackDella Maddalena. Furthermore, while the former is motivated byrecent underdog victories, the latter is looking to surpassAndersonSilva by breaking the record for most consecutive UFC wins.

Rodriguez plans to continuethe pursuit by calling out "Rocky" if he beats Medic at UFCBelgrade.
"We wanted the fight; we asked for the fight," Rodriguez told Homeof Fight. "I guess on his end, they were leaning towards anotherdirection. While Rodriguez is currently on a three-fight winning streak, hehasn't fought since July 2025, as he was arrested in Mexico lastyear. UFC ****** yst Din Thomas says Ian Machado Garry has a knack for figuring out tough styles.
Machado Garry (17-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) challenges welterweight champion Islam Makhachev (28-1 MMA, 17-1 UFC) in the UFC 330 main event on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia (Paramount+).
Machado Garry's back-to-back wins over Carlos Prates and former champion Belal Muhammad earned him his first UFC ****** le opportunity. Thomas explained why Machado Garry shouldn't be counted out.
"Ian Garry's really good, and sometimes we forget how good he is because we want to not like him, because he says things or does things," Thomas told MMA Junkie. "Or when we vilify a fighter, we tend to hang onto that, and we've done that with Ian Garry. Whatever he did in the past, we tend to hang onto that and then we also forget how good he really is. He's got great footwork. He's got a really high IQ for fighting. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes.
"He's long, he's rangy, he's got a lot of experience now. He's always been getting better along the way, and he's got wins over guys who could never be figured out. He's got a win over Michael 'Venom' Page. No one could really figure out Michael 'Venom' Page; Ian Garry's got a win over him. Carlos Prates is an absolute killer right now; Ian Garry's got a win over him. So, the fact that he's able to find ways to beat guys that ****** ody else can beat makes him a very dangerous opponent for Islam."

Michael Morales didn't take too kindly to Ian Machado Garry's suggestion.
Machado Garry (17-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC), who challenges Islam Makhachev (28-1 MMA, 17-1 UFC) for the welterweight championship in the UFC 330 headliner Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, beat Morales and Carlos Prates in the ******* le race.
Instead, Machado Garry claimed Morales (19-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) should move up a division.
"If I was Michael Morales, you know what my advice would be to him? Go up to 185," Machado Garry said on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "Because you're young, you're big, you're somewhat talented. There is a lack of stars up there in the sport, and I think he could do very well there. But if he wants to stay at 170, I'll punch a hole in his head at some point."
Morales remained unbeaten when he finished top contender Sean Brady by first-round TKO at UFC 322 this past November. He fired back at Machado Garry's suggestion.

Ian Machado Garry vows to be a better UFC welterweight champion than Islam Makhachev.
Machado Garry (17-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) challenges Makhachev (28-1 MMA, 17-1 UFC) for the 170-pound ***** le in the UFC 330 headliner on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia (Paramount+). Machado Garry was frustrated with how long his ***** le fight took to materialize after Makhachev claimed the welterweight belt at UFC 322 this past November.
"It's a fact, in my opinion, that when I'm the champion of the world, the welterweight division is better off," Machado Garry said on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "Firstly, Islam only fights once a year. So his next defense might be in July 2027. But the matchups, the stylistic matchups, they're very different. You have on the cards a potential match with Carlos Prates that would be massive. You've got on the cards a potential, arguably the biggest fight you can make in the sport at a certain point, is a potential rematch with me and Shavkat Rakhmonov whenever he's able to come back – if he ever comes back.
"You have a potential matchup with me and Michael Morales, Gabriel Bonfim. You have Sean Brady in the mix, you have (Uros) Medic coming up. The welterweight division is the greatest it's ever been, and it's the most stacked it's ever been. It's the best division in this sport right now. There's no arguments about that, from top to bottom the best division. When I'm the champion of the world, there's going to be more activity. There's going to be more high-level fights. The fans, everybody, I'm promising you now, it's the best thing for the sport."
Machado Garry respects former two-division champion Makhachev's accolades, which is why he thinks beating him makes him undeniable.

Scientists Astonished by Glimpse of Huge, Ancient Ocean on Mars

Scientists have long suspected that Mars was once teeming with water, a tropical oasis with vast river systems that may have been able to support life billions of years ago.
To get a better picture of what such a lush ocean world could’ve looked like, an international team of researchers used satellite data to simulate the sea level in a colossal geographic feature called Coprates Chasma, which is part of the Valles Marineris, the largest canyon in the entire solar system.
While examining the satellite imagery, the team concl
