Steven Kwan gave Chicago White Sox broadcaster Steve Stone an immediate reason to reconsider his comments about the Cleveland Guardians outfielder's power-hitting abilities on Friday, Aug. 7.
During the sixth inning at Rate Field, Stone was discussing Kwan's approach at the plate and suggested the outfielder was trying to be a power hitter.
"You are not a power hitter but trying to act like one," Stone said.
Moments later, Kwan hit a home run to right field. Stone didn't acknowledge the irony. After a notable quiet moment in the announce booth after the homer, all Stone had to say was it was Kwan's second home run of the season.

During the Guardians' sixth inning against the White Sox at Rate Field, White Sox color ***** yst Steve Stone was talking about Kwan's hitting approach and suggested the outfielder was trying to do something outside his usual game.
"Doesn't do himself any favors when he's trying to hit home runs because maybe, maybe in a huge year he'd have 10," Stone said. "That's not enough to take 30-40 points off your batting average, which is something that will happen when you're not a power hitter but trying to act like one."
Just seconds later, Kwan's barrel made the broadcaster hit his own words as Stone was left to witness a powerful right-field home run. This was Kwan's second home run of the year.

The Guardians debuted their post-deadline roster last night against the woeful Mets, but they were the ones who were woeful.
Jo Adell was awesome; he left ****** ody on base. So how did the other 9 participants leave 29? Bazzana left 7, Hoskins left 6, Martinez left 5. There's 18. Arias's 4 gets us to 22. More on him in a minute. Lowe 3, Kwan 2. 27. DeLauter and Rocchio 1 each. 29. Austin Hedges, who was hitless, was the only new friend of Adell's who also left 0.
The gawdawful situational hitting wasn't the only fundamental that the Guardians neglected last night.
It was Rocchio who made the last out at third, and it was Arias who made a terrible throw for the error. He might be DFA'd by the time you read this becauuuuuuusssseeee…..
Let's hope it's that, and not Jose Ramirez going back on the IL with the wrist soreness that kept him out of this game v NYM.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Geraldo Perdomo and Corbin Carroll homered during a seven-run seventh inning, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Cleveland Guardians 12-8 on Saturday night for their fourth straight victory.
Perdomo also had the fourth four-hit game of his six-year career and drove in three runs for the Diamondbacks, who hold the second wild-card spot in the National League. The shortstop is 6 for 10 with four RBIs in the first two games of the series.
Brian McCann had three hits while Nolan Arenado also went deep with a solo shot in the eighth inning.
Rhys Hoskins and Chase DeLauter homered for Cleveland, which is 5-10 since the All-Star break. Steven Kwan added three hits as the Guardians (56-56) fell to .500 for the first time since May 10.
Gerardo Carrillo (2-0), the second of six Arizona pitchers, got the win after throwing two scoreless innings.

Jul. 22—MENNO, S.D. — After trailing 5-0 in the first inning, Parkston Post 194 rallied back to a 7-5 victory over Tabor Post 183 to send them into the American Legion Region 4B ****** le series on Wednesday.
With the win, Parkston (20-9) remains unbeaten in the Region 4B tournament and awaits its 2 p.m. matchup for Thursday's championship series where they will have two games to win one to send them into the Class B Legion state tournament July 31 through Aug. 4 in Madison.
Tabor packed the first punch with a 5-run first inning, but Parkston tallied two runs in the third, one in the fourth and four more in the fifth to score seven unanswered runs, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Carson Bueber to take the two-run lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Parkston was led by the bat of Jaxx Kurtenbach, who went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Kash Neugebauer and Bueber each had one hit and two RBIs. Grady Bowar earned the pitching victory after allowing two hits and zero runs with one strikeout in 2 2/3 innings of work in relief for Brycen Bruening, who allowed five runs and six hits with three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings pitched.
Tabor was paced offensively by Cooper Mudder, who had three hits and two RBIs, while Isaiah Crownover and Owen Bures added one hit and one RBI apiece. Madden Merkwan was tagged with the loss on the ****** p, surrendering seven hits and seven runs with six strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Cleveland also got a two-out, two-strike, two-run double from No. 8 hitter Patrick Bailey in the eighth to add some insurance.
Tanner Bibee, who started this season 0-7 with six no-decisions, earned the win. Bibee (3-9) turned in a quality start, allowing five hits, four walks and one run in 6⅔ innings.
Eury Perez, who pitched seven perfect innings in his previous start, took the loss. Perez (5-7) allowed eight hits, two walks and two runs in six innings. He struck out six.
Cleveland loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning, but Perez struck out Kyle Manzardo and got Kahlil Watson to bounce into a double play.

MIAMI (AP) — Tanner Bibee threw 6 2/3 solid innings, Steven Kwan and Patrick Bailey hit two-run doubles and the Cleveland Guardians beat the Miami Marlins 4-1 on Saturday.
Gabriel Arias had three hits for the Guardians, who clinched the series after winning the opener 3-2 on Friday. The Marlins, who lost their first series since June 14-16 at Philadelphia, had won six consecutive home series.
Bibee (3-9) gave up one run and four hits, walked four and struck out three. Colin Holderman pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save.
Miami starter Eury Pérez (5-7), who pitched seven perfect innings in his previous outing at the Athletics on July 5, allowed two runs and eight hits over six innings. The right-hander walked two and struck out six.
Kwan’s double in the fourth put Cleveland ahead 2-0. Arias and Petey Halpin had consecutive singles and both scored when Kwan hit an opposite filed grounder that rolled inside the line and toward the left-field foul area.

Meanwhile, Nick Trottier holed the par 3 11th hole for the day's signature shot.
Evan Russell, a two-time Amateur winner, and Luke Russell are tied for fourth at 1-over. Garren Poirier, who won this tournament in 2020, and Bryan Smith, the 2016 champ, are tied for sixth along with Stephen Goodridge and Jay Zanleoni at 2-over.
Taylor Bellemare and Jacob Lowe share 10th through 18 holes at 3-over.
To sit atop the leaderboard, Leonard, who was a multi-sport athlete at CVU, drained three birdies to go along with two bogeys. He shot a front-9 34.

On another hot day in Cleveland, the game today started as a pitchers' duel. The Big Rig and Anthony Kay got off to blazing starts, and it was Anthony Kay who would blink first. After retiring the first 6 hitters in a row to start the game, Gabriel Arias and Austin Hedges would draw back to back walks to start the 3rd inning. Kwan would sacrifice them both to 3rd with a bunt, and an RBI single from Travis Bazzana would plate the first run of the game for the Guards. That would be all they got in the inning, as David Fry would ground into a double play.
Gavin Williams would get into a little trouble in the 4th, as the White Sox would get 2 runners on with only one out. He was able to work out of it with a strikeout and a weak grounder to end the inning. The Big Rig would get into trouble again in the 5th. After back to back singles and a sacrifice, the White Sox would get both runners into scoring position with only 1 out. Gavin got a weak ground ball that was unable to score the run from 3rd for the second out of the inning. Unfortunately the Big Rig wouldn't be able to escape this jam. As the wind began to pick up and blow debris all around the field, and after a hard fought 10 pitch battle with Miguel Vargas, it would be Vargas who would emerge victorious, clobbering a 3 run homer down the left field line. Immediately after, the umpiring crew would call for the tarp, and we would head into a weather delay.
Once we finally got back to action, both offenses would stay silent until the bottom half of the 7th inning. The Guards would get 2 runners on base with walks from Hoskins and Rocchio. Then with 2 outs, Austin Hedges would come through with an infield single on a ball in the hole between the SS and 3rd base, and Hoskins would score after the ball was booted a little bit by Colson Montgomery. Next, Steven Kwan would come to the plate with the score now 3-2. Kwan was able to get a soft liner down the left field line to drive in the tying run. That was all for the Guards in the 7th, as Bryan Hudson was able to strike out Travis Bazzana to end the inning.
After the Guardians tied the game, both Colin Holderman and Cade Smith would throw 1-2-3 8th and 9th innings. But despite getting a runner on base in each inning, the Guards couldn't scratch a run across, and we were headed to extras.
The Guardians would send Erik Sabrowski out for the 10th. He would strike out the first two hitters and retire the last on a flyout to right field, preserving the 3-3 tie and giving the Guards offense a chance to win if they could get the free baserunner home in the bottom half of the inning. It was Travis Bazzana to lead it off with Steven Kwan on as the free baserunner. He would single on a hard ground ball to left, but the left fielder was playing in, so Kwan could only get to 3rd. CLEVELAND (AP) — Khalil Watson singled home the winning run in the 10th inning and the Cleveland Guardians rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night to move into first place in the AL Central.
It was Cleveland's second consecutive walk-off win to begin a four-game series between the top two teams in the division.
Steven Kwan began the bottom of the 10th as the automatic runner on second base. He moved to third on Travis Bazzana's single to left field and scored on Watson's base hit up the middle off Sean Newcomb (0-2).
It was the first walk-off hit for Watson, called up June 17 from Triple-A Columbus. The rookie has nine RBIs in 15 games.
Eric Sabrowski (3-1) got the win after retiring the White Sox in order in the top of the 10th. The Guardians' bullpen has given up only two hits in 9 1/3 scoreless innings over the past two games against Chicago.

The Guardians will approach MLB's 2026 Trade Deadline with some interesting decisions to make.
With Jose Ramirez and Angel Martinez likely to still be on the IL as the deadline approaches, the Guardians will have to evaluate what their team is likely to be in need of when their best player as well as their current slugging leader make their returns. One would THINK that a team that is steadily in the bottom of all offensive categories except on-base percentage would still be in the market for some slugging, particularly from the right-handed side of the plate.
The number one place on the team where there is no clear internal option is for one more high leverage reliever, preferably one that bats left-handed. Of course, every team in MLB will be hoping to find a high leverage reliever and a right-handed power threat at the deadline. Will Cleveland be willing to do a little overpay to get one of these players? …It doesn't seem like the kind of thing they typically do… but I suppose the Lane Thomas deal kinda qualifies.
The trickiest category of potential acquisitions is a starting pitcher. The Guardians' rotation is strong. However, how likely is it that all five of them will make it through the season, because the depth behind them is practically non-existent. Personally, I'd be delighted if the Guardians shocked us and added another front of the rotation arm and showed willingness to let Cantillo or Cecconi become multi-inning weapons in the pen. But, I don't expect that kind of move, and admit it probably makes sense to focus your resources on improving the lineup and bullpen. So, I'm not going to spend time below focusing on the starters the Guardians could target. If they do, great. If anything, I'd see them doing a 2024 Matthew Boyd-type deal where they find a pitcher who is rehabbing they can take a flyer on. (But, they do also have Ben Lively somewhere who may fit that category).
I see the Guardians being willing to consider trading prospects for major league help, but I also suspect they will look to trade some of their own players even independent from acquiring help for now. I ***** ume, at this point, that they will trade Franco Aleman, who should be an ***** et in a deal for help now. Otherwise, I'm not sure why he wouldn't be with the major league team at this point. Bo Naylor probably gets moved for a comp pick at best, but more likely a lottery ticket-type prospect. I think they may deal Steven Kwan to a team who believes they can fix what ails him as a hitter, as many of his underlying skills remain. They're not going to get much for Kwan, though, so imagine him as more of a third-piece or a player they trade for a comp pick/lottery ticket, also.

The White Sox waited until the last minute to tee off on Cleveland closer Cade Smith in the ninth inning once more, but could not convert a run with the bases loaded in the 10th, falling 4-3. As if to indicate dismay with leaving an attainable sweep on the table, the rain that initially delayed today’s contest almost three hours) started pouring. As a result, the two teams are again tied for first.
Both teams experienced traffic on the basepaths in the second, Erick Fedde with back-to-back walks, and Tanner Bibee with a hit-by-pitch and single. Both pitchers escaped their jams to leave it knotted at zero. The White Sox would again put two runners on in the third with singles from Sam Antonacci and Miguel Vargas, but the pair were left stranded when Andrew Benintendi hit into a fielder’s choice.
A single, an error, and a walk would load the bases for Cleveland in the top of the sixth, with no outs. Kahlil Watson singled on a line drive straight to Antonacci, whose throw to Kyle Teel in an attempt to cut down the second runner out at home short-hopped the catcher. That was all for Fedde, and surprisingly Brandon Eisert inherited two runners on and one out and was able to stun batters for back-to-back strikeouts, escaping the jam.
In the seventh, Teel got his first hit since coming back two days ago, and Colson Montgomery helped out with a double. With ducks on the pond a sac fly from Braden Montgomery sent Teel home, making it 2-1. Randal Grichuk came off the bench, but with that move, the Guardians went back to their bullpen to replace lefty reliever Erik Sabrowski. Grichuk launched a ball to center, but with a diving catch, Steven Kwan ended the rally.
Joe Rock came on to pitch in the Chicago eighth and struggled with his command. Petey Halpin started Rock’s outing with a single, and Kyle Manzardo walked. Rock was able to get a strikeout and a fly out, but walked Daniel Schneemann to load the bases and then walked in a run to keep the bases loaded for Kwan. Thankfully, Kwan has been struggling and left the bases loaded after going down swinging.

The Yankees won a June game with an October feel. Aaron Boone and Stephen Vogt managed Tuesday night’s contest like a playoff game. The Yankees emptied their bench, both teams had quick hooks on their relievers, and momentum swung back and forth throughout the evening before New York finally emerged with a 7-5 victory in ten innings.
Paul Goldschmidt wasted no time getting the Yankees on the board. After Ben Rice reached base to begin the game, Goldschmidt jumped on a Gavin Williams offering and deposited it into a Yankees fan’s glove just as they emerged from the left-field tunnel for a two-run homer. The blast, his eighth of the season, gave New York an early 2-0 lead and continued a recent stretch of strong play from the veteran first baseman.

The Yankees added another run in the third inning, though this one came in far less conventional fashion. Trent Grisham crossed the plate when a throwing error by Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio allowed Cody Bellinger to reach safely. Up 3-0 early, the Yankees appeared poised to seize complete control of the game.
However, Will Warren labored through his outing. The Guardians worked deep into counts and in the third inning things unraveled both in front of and behind him. A wild pitch allowed Steven Kwan to score before Rocchio redeemed himself with an RBI groundout. Cleveland eventually pulled even when José Caballero was charged with a fielding error that allowed José Ramírez to score. Of the three runs charged against Warren during the inning, only two were earned as defensive miscues once again proved costly for New York.
