Nearly two years after the Paris Olympics bronze medal dispute between Romania's Ana Barbosu and American gymnast Jordan Chiles, the case is headed back to the CAS. After Switzerland's Federal Supreme Court ordered a fresh hearing, Romania initially faced uncertainty over funding its legal defense. Those concerns have now been resolved after Parliament approved an amendment allowing the COSR to finance the country's representation before CAS.
Following the development, Barbosu shared a message thanking those who made Romania's legal defense possible.
"Thank you very much for the support and efforts made to make it possible to represent the Romanian side before the court in Lausanne. I always remain confident that the state fights for its most trusted ambassadors, the athletes." (Translated from Romanian into English using Google Translate).
Interestingly, the post was issued in the wake of weeks of doubt regarding Romania's participation in the reopened arbitration. Interestingly, despite being our most targeted area to strengthen in the summer market, the right side of the pitch again yielded the most rewards as we built our attacks. Le Bris once again played Trai Hume in a pseudo-wing role on the right, as waves of attacks developed between Hume himself, Habib Diarra, Brian Brobbey and the ever-excellent Nordi Mukiele.
It was Nordi, of course, who claimed the only goal of the match, slamming a low shot past the (quite poor) Wrexham goalkeeper on 34 minutes. It finished off a wonderful move involving three of the four aforementioned players, as Hume neatly found Brobbey inside the box, who in turn played Mukiele through on goal with a sublime first touch.
It was a good demonstration of how we like to build attacks through fluid positioning and overlaps, even without the out-and-out right winger we so desperately want to recruit. It was also a timely reminder of Nordi's exceptional quality at right-back, perhaps further cementing that as his primary position for the upcoming season.
Contributing to that excellent play on the right were the individual performances of Habib Diarra and Brian Brobbey. I thought both gave fantastic accounts of themselves and demonstrated just how influential they can be, albeit in very different ways.
Brobbey's hold-up play and tenacity to bully defenders were on full display as he essentially tortured Dominic Hyam for the duration of his appearance, earning the defender a yellow card and somehow having a blatant foul – and potential penalty – waved away. You have been waiting for the Cubs to acquire a starting pitcher, and Sunday night, they have done so (Bluesky link):
Per Josh's pre-deadline ranking of Cubs prospects, those are the No. 13 (Ty Southisene) and No. 19 (Brett Bateman) prospects in the Cubs organization. MLB Pipeline ranks them 13th and 21st, respectively.
This is, I believe, a fair deal for a 35-year-old pitcher who is a pending free agent, so this is a rental. The Cubs would be on the hook for slightly more than $7 million of Gausman's $23 million deal for this year. (This might also account for some of the "cash considerations" in the Jameson Taillon deal with the Jays announced earlier today.)
Gausman has a 4.38 ERA and 1.288 WHIP in 23 starts this year and 127.1 innings. His K rate and walk rate are about the same as they've been the last couple of years, and with 50 games remaining, that means likely 10 starts in a Cubs uniform for him.
His last start was Friday against the Cardinals and he allowed nine hits and one run in 5.2 innings. In a July 21 ESPN profile, Cunningham commented on what she felt was necessary to "protect women's sports."
"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" she told the Worldwide Leader after being asked about the "MAGA Barbie" nickname some fans have given her.
"I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."

Over the years, we've seen sales for the Big 4 sports teams continue to rise drastically, with the Seattle Seahawks being sold for a record $9.612 billion earlier this month.
That has begged the question: what are the top college programs worth if they were potentially sold? The Athletic ran that exercise last year, looking at every team's revenue and inherent value based on brand power, conference value, and more.
Wisconsin came in 19th in the country last year with a valuation of $801 million, which topped schools like Iowa ($709 million), Indiana ($386 million), Arkansas ($646 million), Michigan State ($708 million), Clemson ($665 million), Minnesota ($562 million), and more.
Where did they come in the rankings this year?
Interestingly enough, the Badgers came in at No. 19 again, only this time at a valuation of $922 million, remaining one of the top powers in college athletics. That got them ahead of Florida State, which fell two spots to No. 20 at an $819 million valuation, and still ahead of Iowa, which remained at No. 21 at an $806 million valuation.

A few talking points on the starting lineup. The big news was a first start for Hayden Hackney. The other talking point for the team was the absence of Jarrad Branthwaite. It was reported that this was as part of his planned reintegration into the squad. Tyler Dibling and Mykolenko return and Jake O'Brien started on the bench. David Moyes was starting with his favourite 4-2-3-1 with Beto up top.
A lovely night in Stoke with Everton in their all blue kits. Everton were immediately on the front foot and a nice bit of interplay only broke down when Dewsbury-Hall ****** ed a ball into the box and it was easily handled by the Stoke keeper. Interestingly, it looked like Dibling was playing at right ack with Hackney in front of him.
An early corner was recycled by the Blues and when it fell to George, he laced a shot just narrowly wide of the post. A very good start from the boys in blue. Stoke tried to slow the game down and get on the ball but Everton were pressing high. When George intercepted a pass, his pass was slightly overhit for Dibling.
Everton went off the boil and some lax defending by Tarkowski allowed Gallagher in on Travers but a great leg save denied the home team. It was then Everton's turn to hold onto the ball. Borussia Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi has agreed personal terms with FC Barcelona, according to Sky Germany and transfer insider Gerard Romero.
The two clubs are now in direct negotiations over a transfer fee, but no agreement has been reached yet.

Tottenham Hotspur and Argentina defender Cristian Romero is on the move, and his destination is Spain. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are willing to sell Romero after the FIFA World Cup, and the player himself wants to head to La Liga.

With Elliot Anderson now a Manchester City player, the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders remain in the market for another midfielder. City signed Anderson from Nottingham Forest to fill a serious hole in their midfield. However, the consensus is that Enzo Maresca’s squad still needs one more quality midfielder. The only prominent midfielder who has consistently been named as a City target is Lille and Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. Has Manchester City settled on their next midfield target? It seems that way, as there are no serious links to any other midfielders from a Manchester City point of view.
Sam Lee has reported in the most recent Transfer DealSheet for The Athletic, that Manchester City like and admire Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. Furthermore, Lee reports that City have considered signing Bouaddi this summer and loaning him back to Lille. However, given how talented Bouaddi is, the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders are also considering signing Bouaddi and keeping him as a member of Enzo Maresca’s squad for next season. Interestingly, Sam Lee adds that City believes that Bouaddi could slot in at right-back if needed.

No franchise has gotten more out of football's most unremarkable plays than the San Francisco 49ers. And the 2025 season, interestingly, complicated that story.
Pro Football Focus's Mark Chichester looked at an often-overlooked quarterback stat: "zero-graded throws." These passes aren't blown ***** ignments or highlight-reel plays, but rather throws where a quarterback is simply "doing his job," per Chichester, and making the play an NFL passer would be expected to make. The metric essentially tracks how a quarterback executes the offense he's in and how that offense produces by design.
Quarterbacks are, oddly enough, historically bad at this stat. Across nearly 221,500 zero-graded attempts from PFF since 2006, only one season has finished net-positive, with the average sitting at -0.060 expected points added (EPA) per attempt.
The 49ers have bucked that trend, though. They've been the league's most consistent outlier in routine throws for two decades, and especially during the Kyle Shanahan era starting in 2017.
Since 2006, three different 49ers quarterbacks rank among the top five in career EPA per attempt on zero-graded throws: Jimmy Garoppolo (No. 1, +0.111), Nick Mullens (No. 2, +0.076) and Brock Purdy (No. 5, +0.023). The trend holds on yards per attempt too, where Garoppolo, Purdy and Mullens sweep the top three spots outright at 6.43, 6.01 and 5.81 yards per attempt, respectively, which is ahead of every other qualifying quarterback in the sample.

Ben Stokes has thrown his full support behind Harry Brook as his preferred successor to lead England's Test team following his retirement from international cricket. Brook, who currently captains England in ODIs and T20Is, has served as Stokes' vice-captain in the Test setup and is widely regarded as the frontrunner to take over the role permanently.
Interestingly, when Stokes was unavailable for the second Test against New Zealand, the England management opted for former captain Joe Root to lead the side instead of Brook. However, Stokes made it clear that he had no involvement in that decision and reiterated his belief that Brook is the natural choice to succeed him.
"There's a reason why he was asked to be vice-captain of this team, I know with all the controversy over the last couple of weeks, there were some decisions that were made, but those were decisions that I wasn't part of making," Stokes said after England's defeat in his farewell Test.
The 35-year-old explained that Brook's promotion would simply follow the traditional leadership pathway within the team.
"You're asked to be vice-captain of a team for a certain reason, I was vice-captain under Joe for a long time, and it's a natural progression. If the captain's not there or unavailable, then you step up to do that. So there's absolutely no reason why Harry shouldn't be asked to do it," Stokes added.
Stokes also highlighted Brook's growing influence within the dressing room, backing the Yorkshire batter to thrive in the role.
"He is someone who is obviously an incredible player and one of the more senior players in this group. Only time will tell, but you don't ask someone to be vice-captain if you don't think they've got the skills and the ability to captain the team when they need to. If I was asked who I think should do it, I'm throwing my 100% support behind Harry Brook," Stokes concluded.
