A decision to change the location of an annual winter festival at just over a month's notice has been criticised as "sneaky" by a business group.
The Winter Droving has been held in Penrith for more than a decade, but this year the live music, outdoor performances and twilight procession will take place 20 miles away in Carlisle on 24 October.
Eden Arts director Adrian Lochhead said organisers had been working "until the last minute" to keep the event in Penrith but it had not been possible for financial reasons.
However, Penrith Business Improvement District (Bid) accused Eden Arts of "sneakily organising" the move for some time, while the local council said it was "disappointed" at the news.
Lochhead told BBC Radio **** bria the announcement did not happen earlier because they were "still trying" to stay in Penrith, but "it was becoming more and more impossible".

South Korean battery manufacturer Samsung SDI Company announced that it plans to sell down its stake in Samsung Display Company, an affiliated manufacturer of digital displays for the automotive and other end-user sectors, as it looks to free up capital for investment in future growth businesses.
In a regulatory filing, the company confirmed that it has agreed to reduce its stake in Samsung Display from 15.2% to 10.2%, by selling 13.09 million shares each priced at KRW 304,000, freeing up a total of KRW 4.45 trillion (US$ 3.2 billion) in new investment capital. Samsung Display said it would buy back the shares from Samsung SDI as treasury stock, with the final valuation subject to change during the repurchasing process.
Samsung SDI has faced rising investment demand in the US, reflecting falling sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the country following policy changes by the US government, including the withdrawal of BEV purchase incentives worth up to US$ 7,500 per vehicle last year.
This has prompted manufacturers such as Samsung SDI, LG Energy Solution and SK On to convert some of their newly-built capacity in North America from automotive batteries to energy storage systems (ESS), while also buying out their vehicle manufacturing joint venture partners for some of this capacity.
Samsung SDI recently agreed to take over General Motors' almost 50% stake in its Synergy Cells joint venture, which was established in 2024, giving the South Korean battery maker full control of the US$ 3.5 billion battery plant under construction in New Carlisle, Indiana.

Over the years, the Bucks and Pacers became fierce rivals. While the Bucks have had tremendous success, it seems Antetokounmpo and the team struggled to win against Haliburton's Pacers. It was a fierce rivalry with trash talk on both sides, but it seems Indiana won the war, especially with the two postseason series victories.
Despite how it looked, the Pacers did struggle against the Bucks from time to time. They might have a lot of wins against them, but head coach Rick Carlisle was hard at work making adjustments, setting up schemes, and preparing his team to play against the Bucks.

Burnley have signed goalkeeper Ben Amos on a one-year deal.
The 36-year-old, who started his career with Manchester United, was a free agent after leaving Port Vale at the end of last season.
He has also played for Oldham Athletic, Hull City, Bolton Wanderers, Carlisle, Cardiff City, Charlton Athletic and Wigan Athletic during a much-travelled career.
"I think there's a good blend of younger and older players here and hopefully I can bring something to the dressing room with my experience and be part of the senior group," Amos told the club website.

Draymond Green had a special guest on "The Draymond Green Show" this week, as he was joined by Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle, a one-time NBA champion as a player with the Boston Celtics (1985-86) and a one-time championship as a coach with the Dallas Mavericks (2010-11).
During the appearance, Carlisle spoke about how all-time NBA players would dominate regardless of the era that they played in. In doing so, Carlisle gave Green a lofty comparison, saying, "Greatness is going to be great regardless of the era. You are going to try to tell me that (Bill) Russell wouldn't be great in this era? Russell, the guy who threw up before every game because he couldn't stomach the idea of losing? And he had such an impact on winning; can you imagine having that guy leading your team? That was the early version of Draymond Green."
Although Green is known as a four-time NBA champion and one of the stronger defensive players of his generation, the comparison from Carlisle seemed to wreak a false equivalence.
While it was a different era, Russell won 11 NBA championships in 13 seasons to go along with 11 All-NBA selections, five MVP awards and five rebounding ******* les. Throughout his career, Russell averaged 15.1 points, 22.5 rebounds and 4.9 ******* ists. Blocks and steals weren't recorded while Russell played in the NBA.

In the third of five first-team warm-up friendlies of the 1992/93 season, The Lads suffered what was viewed at the time as an embarrassing defeat at Brunton Park.
There are still many fans who view a defeat, or even a draw, against lower-league opposition in pre-season games as a hugely negative outcome (look at the joy that some of our fans took in the visitors' draw at Gateshead last week). However, I think such games were scrutinised even more heavily as recently as five or six years ago.
So, coming off an excellent FA Cup run and final against Liverpool in May, it was seen as quite a scalp for Carlisle United. As it turned out, all it really heralded was a rather abysmal season for the Black Cats, who only avoided relegation to the Third Division thanks to results elsewhere.
As quite often was the case for Sunderland, there was either no, or perhaps just one, home fixture in the build-up to the new season. This came the following week, in a match against Tottenham Hotspur to celebrate Sunderland being granted city status.
As I hope most even-minded fans now accept, pre-season games are almost entirely about fitness and don't often provide much of an indication of the season's direction. Nevertheless, it is in ****** ody's interest for coaches and players to be doubting themselves before the opening games, when the real battle begins.

Carlisle United have signed Fleetwood Town defender Toby Mullarkey on loan until January.
The defender played 27 games for the Lancashire club in League Two last season, having joined from Crawley Town where he worked under Carlisle's new head coach Rob Elliot.
Mullarkey, 30, is the sixth player signed by the Blues this summer as they prepare for a second National League season.
"To join a team that's expected to be up there and winning is something I'm looking forward to," he told Carlisle's website.

FORT DODGE − In the new era of double elimination at the Iowa high school state softball tournament, No. 1 seed Adel-De Soto-Minburn still left no doubt, going undefeated at the tournament on its way to a state ***** le.
The Tigers ended a dominant, wire-to-wire run to their first-ever state ***** le with a 6-0 win over Raccoon River Conference foe Carlisle on Thursday, July 23. Starring in the effort were pitcher Lauren Hagedorn and catcher Kinzie Maxwell. Hagedorn gave up just four hits and conceded no runs in the circle, while Maxwell was 3-for-3 at the plate with a single, double, a home run, two RBIs and a walk.
From the first round to the state ***** le game, the Tigers went 4-0, outscoring their opponents 29-6 over the week in Fort Dodge. ADM had not lost since June 16, ending the campaign on a 24-game win streak. This is ADM's first softball state ***** le as a school, though Adel High School won in 1970 before the three towns combined to create ADM.
"I hope all the younger girls underneath us (at ADM) can look up to us and know they can do it and they have the power to do it," Maxwell said.

Not content to have Nikola Dzepina as the only player whose last name starts with a Z adjacent to a consonant, Danny Sprinkle added Rutgers transfer Harun Zrno to the roster on Wednesday. Zrno is a 6’7” wing who carved out a regular rotation spot for Rutgers last season, though his shooting percentages were sub-par and he didn’t pile up impressive numbers of rebounds or **** ists. Sprinkle and his staff will need to further develop their new addition to make him more than just a body to fill out the roster.
The Dawgs also announced the addition of one of the coaches who will work with Zrno and company next season. The Huskies hired long-time NBA **** istant Charles Klask to his staff. Washington Huskies coach Danny Sprinkle has completed his coaching staff with the hiring of 25-year NBA veteran ***** istant coach Charles Klask.
Klask, a graduate of Michigan State in 1999, began his coaching career in the NBA as a video coordinator for the Detroit Pistons in 2000-01 under then-coach Rick Carlisle. He spent the next decade as a scout with the Orlando Magic, working for Doc Rivers and Stan Van Gundy among other notable head coaches for the organization before he advanced into a coaching role.
Most recently, Klask spent eight seasons with the Denver Nuggets as an ***** istant coach, helping develop players like three-time MVP big man Nikola Jokić, while being on staff for the franchise's first championship in 2023.
The hiring of Klask is the second confirmed coaching change this offseason for Sprinkle. It follows the addition of ex-Marquette ***** istant coach DeAndre Haynes, giving Sprinkle a wealth of experience joining his bench for the 2026-27 men's basketball season as the third-year coach aims to return UW to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019 under former coach Mike Hopkins.
Having coached numerous All-Star-caliber players in the NBA over his two-plus decades spent in the league—Blake Griffin, Chauncey Billups, and Andre Drummond, among several others—the addition of the Big Ten alum should blend well with a veteran-laden roster that features seven juniors and seniors.

The Class 4A field at the Iowa high school state softball tournament will narrow to just the final two teams by the end of the day Wednesday, July 22. At the start of the day, No. 1 ADM and No. 2 Carlisle were both one win from reaching the state final, while No. 3 Fort Dodge, No. 4 Western Dubuque and No. 7 North Polk were each hoping to stay alive after suffering losses earlier this week.
The final two teams remaining after today will square off on Thursday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. for the Class 4A state **** le. Before we get there, here's a rundown of all the action as it happens in Fort Dodge.

With the mindset of "why not us," Davenport **** umption made it nine straight wins on Tuesday, July 21, with an 11-1 win in six innings over Carlisle (26-9). **** umption's 20th state tournament appearance now features a state semifinal berth with a chance to return to the state final for the first time since 2022.
With a 27-13 record and the No. 7 seed, **** umption has recently had a new mentality leading up to the state tournament.
"I don't think the seed has anything to do with it," said **** umption head coach Greg Thissen. "I think getting to the state tournament, everybody that makes it feels like they have a chance to win. I feel like it's been us against the like two or three weeks ago. It all came together, had a couple big wins, had a couple discussions."

The week of July 5-11 saw regional softball competition kick into high gear for teams from the Ames area.
Roland-Story, the No. 12 team in Class 3A, advanced to the 3A Region 1 championship game with wins over Iowa Falls-Alden (2-0) and Pella Christian (13-1). Ames saw its season come to a close with an 8-0 setback against No. 10 Des Moines Roosevelt in the 5A Region 3 semifinals on July 11 in Des Moines.
Gilbert defeated Nevada in the 4A Region 2 quarterfinals, 2-1, before dropping an 11-9 slugfest to Newton in the semifinals. Ballard also reached the 4A Region 2 semifinals, earning a 6-1 win over Webster City in the quarterfinals before suffering a 12-4 setback to No. 2 Carlisle in the semifinals.
Collins-Maxwell saw its season come to a close with an 11-5 loss to No. 3 St. Edmond in the 1A Region 3 semifinals. The Spartans defeated North Mahaska in the quarterfinals, 9-5, on July 8.
Colo-NESCO fell to North Mahaska by a 12-0 score in the 1A Region 3 first round on July 6.

The United States celebrates its 250th anniversary at a time when the men's soccer team has a plausible shot at chasing an improbable World Cup ******* le. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, defender Tim Ream compared the squad to the nation it represents.
"[W]e've said this as a group with all our different backgrounds, where we all have grown up, it's a true representation of what America is," Ream said, via Jeff Carlisle of ESPN.

Ames went 6-1 during the week, with its only loss coming to Class 4A No. 1 Sioux City East. Gilbert split four games, with one of its losses coming at the hands of 3A No. 6 Carlisle and 3A No. 9 Ballard went 2-3 with two losses to North Polk and one setback against 4A No. 2 Indianola.
Roland-Story, the No. 2 team in 2A, ran its winning streak to 15 games, improving to 30-1 with six wins during the week. Nevada split four games, Collins-Maxwell went 3-1 and Colo-NESCO was 2-2.
There were several standout individual performances from area baseball players during the week.

Carlisle United have signed midfielder Harvey Bunker on a two-year deal.
The 23-year-old will join the Blues on 1 July after his contract with fellow National League side Forest Green Rovers expires.
Bunker scored 11 goals in 149 appearances for Rovers after coming through their youth ranks.
Carlisle boss Rob Elliot told the club's website: "Harvey is an exciting young player. He has had experience in higher divisions in League One and League Two, and obviously knows the National League well."
