"I'm the mayhem," said fishing guide Branden Trager in reference to his fishing and hunting guide company Adventures with Mayhem Outfitters. The business is based in Brush Prairie, Wash., but the Trager family splits time between Brush Prairie and the Long Beach Peninsula. "We're nomadic," he said.
Trager was in Astoria on the docks of the West End Mooring Basin on Saturday, Aug. 15 to ****** ist with the Lipstick Salmon Slayers tournament, a women-only salmon fishing tournament that brings hundreds to the Columbia River Buoy 10 fishery to compete for cash prizes and empower women fishers.
In line with the spirit of the event, Trager said he was there to support his wife Erica — the organizer of the tourney. She was busy at the event's other location setting up for a celebratory dinner that would lure the women anglers from the docks to a dinner that evening.
Trager's singular goal that day was to provide an inclusive atmosphere for the female salmon slayers lined up on the dock.
The intent was "to have a safe, welcoming environment and not have to worry about being the only girl on board, because that happens a lot as a fishing guide," said Trager. "We have a lot of instances where there is just one girl on the boat. Of course, we make her feel welcomed but it's super fun when it's six gals on the boat. Just being with each other while they are just having the best day of their lives."

Mike Moon didn't want to hear it.
Atop the dais at Marmonte League media day earlier this month, the Pacifica High football coach brushed aside the praise being heaped upon his defending champions.
"Rat poison," Moon called it.
But the Tritons return most of the weapons from a CIF-Southern Section Division 3 championship team that went 15-1 and swept through the Northern Area's top league by an average of 13.2 points per game.
The biggest question in the Marmonte League entering the 2026 season isn't which team is the favorite.

Today, on August 16th, it feels like the Yankees' offense is in such a hole that the prospect of a deep postseason run—this team's ultimate goal—is as unlikely a proposition as one could hope for. Ultimately, though, no matter how real these issues are, we know that there is an element of a local low in a 162-game season that won't last. In the meantime, these struggles could easily snowball into problems for the few healthy standouts in the Yankees lineup this season. Specifically speaking, Ben Rice and George Lombard Jr.
Carrying on the success of last season's breakout campaign, Rice is now indisputably one of the more powerful hitters in the American League in 2026. Early in the year, with a fully healthy lineup, Rice was legitimately producing like one of the MVP candidates, but that has changed since the start of June. As much as we could dive into those struggles, ***** uming we're confident of his long-term abilities, the focus here is on addressing a change in expectations and need.
Inadvertently suffering from the absence of Aaron Judge and the way pitchers can attack him because of it—from a psychological standpoint—Rice, for the first time in his career, is dealing with the pressure of anchoring a lineup. He is the one, in the current situation, the only one, in this lineup that opposing teams single out to create a plan of attack.
While the worst performers in this lineup seem to test the limits of this theory, frustration may only come from a place of expectation. Having seen what Rice can do at his best, a 4-for-40 run with which he starts August all of a sudden is under a microscope that it otherwise wouldn't have been had the team not been slumping this badly, offensively.
Sure, Rice is the type of hitter that could go on a tear at any moment; in fact, we saw that right around the All-Star Break, but his production shined the most when inserted into a context completely different from the one he is currently in. A potential failure to raise his game even further in this moment should not be held against him, especially when you address that on paper, this lineup, even in its current construction, should not be struggling this much. Asking ***** iot Ramos to mash lefties, Trent Grisham to get on base often, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. to do something are all far more reasonable requests than having Rice carry the lineup on his back. Yes, fairness is often brushed to the side in the cruel reality of high-level sports, but the healthiest course of action for this team's success moving forward lies in acknowledging all of this.

Phoenix Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts may not understand exactly what the Indiana Fever's Stephanie White has dealt with the past week or so, but he can empathize.
In a recent pregame interview, Tibbetts lamented the WNBA's frequent brushes with controversy, so many of them involving the Fever.
White has been criticized by the state's lieutenant governor after a postgame comment regarding the Chicago Sky's DiJonai Carrington. White gave an impassioned defense of her players before she was booed while being introduced the next game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Fever players also defended White, who received an ovation before Friday night's game against the New York Liberty.
"There are some things that our coaches have to deal with on a night-to-night level, and I feel sorry for those coaches," Tibbetts said Saturday.
"Some of things that Steph goes through, that is wrong. There is no other coach in professional sports that ... it's not fair. She was hired as a coach, and they've got a great team and they are dealing with stuff that doesn't really matter. That still ****** me off."

The wrestling world is a close-knit community, and longtime announcer Jim Ross is one of its most beloved members. Ross has dealt with multiple health issues, including colon cancer, in recent years, and is facing another battle Wednesday.
During a recent episode of the Grilling JR with Jim Ross podcast, Ross, 74, revealed that he will be having brain surgery today to install a shunt.
"I've got a big week coming up. My surgery is this Wednesday in Norman," Ross said. "I don't want to say 'I'm looking forward to it.' But I guess I am to get to that point and get it over with. I've never had brain surgery before, so they're going to put a shunt in my brain."
On Wednesday morning, Ross' fellow WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair shared his best wishes for "Good Ol' JR" on X.
Flair, 77, has had his own health problems over the years, including two recent battles with skin cancer, a mild heart attack in 2022 and a brush with death due to multiple organ failure in 2017.

Experts are increasingly bullish on the potential of nuclear energy. Multiple Wall Street companies are predicting a multi-trillion-dollar opportunity for investors.
"After decades of underinvestment, a convergence of generational technological breakthroughs, intensifying geopolitical competition, and the need for clean, dense, reliable power are positioning nuclear energy for a renaissance," predicts Goldman Sachs.

Datadog Inc. (DDOG) spent last summer defending itself against one accusation: that its biggest customer was quietly building its way out the door.
In July 2025, Guggenheim downgraded the stock to sell, warning that OpenAI was developing in-house monitoring tools that could carve a $150 million hole in Datadog's revenue. The stock brushed it off and nearly doubled over the following year.
On August 6, the warning arrived anyway, delivered not by a bearish **** yst but by Datadog's own management.
The company beat second-quarter revenue and earnings estimates and raised its full-year guidance for a third straight quarter. Investors sold the stock down as much as 19% the same day, according to The Motley Fool.

With quotes via calciomercato.com, the midfielder made clear his happiness in Milan, where he says he and his family have settled fully.
"I'm happy to be here, in Milan, where my wife and I have integrated brilliantly, and at Inter," he said.
"The future doesn't depend on me, but on the club, because there hasn't been any contact over the renewal. I'm a footballer and I think about playing. But in five years I think we've done a lot of good things: eight trophies, two Champions League finals."

Even Hollywood's most legendary actresses have watched career-defining roles go to someone else. From fiercely contested auditions to casting decisions that changed movie history, these famous near-misses offer a fascinating glimpse at what might have been. Here are 13 acclaimed stars who came surprisingly close to playing some of film and television's most iconic characters.
O'Connor / AFF-USA.com / MEGA
Rene Russo, recognized for her powerful presence in thriller and action films, has brushed with near-misses in both blockbusters and indie projects. Some of the roles she was considered for later became iconic with other actresses in the spotlight. Her story is a testament to how even established stars encounter moments of doubt and challenge, shaping their evolving careers. In fact, Russo wouldn't have landed her breakout part of Lorna Cole in the Lethal Weapon franchise if judged solely on her first tryout, later admitting she was so bad she could feel herself dying, with the director feeling she initially lacked the necessary edge, according to Mental Floss.
MEGA
Sharon Stone is remembered for her intense on-screen charisma, but the road to fame was not without memorable rejections. Directors often recall her fearless auditions, even for roles she didn't get. These setbacks did not deter her, on the contrary, they fueled her future success, making her name synonymous with femme fatales and complex characters alike. Long before she became a household name, co-star Michael Douglas actually wanted a bigger name for the part of Catherine Tramell and refused to do a screen test with Stone at first, per IndieWire.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino's ability to brush aside criticism and push through enlarged versions of the Club World Cup and World Cup lent him an air of omnipotence, but a failed private investor plan has left his position under threat for the first time.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) — If the New York Giants get the same Kayvon Thibodeaux this season who showed up the first few days of training camp, he'll force his way onto the field and make himself a lot of money next spring.
Thibodeaux tipped a pass from Jameis Winston in the first practice and intercepted one in the second earlier this week, showing flashes of what made him the fifth pick in the 2022 draft. He has been playing mostly with the second-string defense, given edge rushers Brian Burns and Abdul Carter also being on the roster.
He brushed that off, along with going into a contract year, as any extra fuel. Still, the Giants very well could get a motivated Thibodeaux after no trade materialized for him at or before the draft, and with a potential payday — likely elsewhere — coming for him in free agency next March.
"You just want to be the best player you can be," Thibodeaux said Saturday. "Keep finding ways to help the team. Keep leading."
Thibodeaux is coming off setting career lows with 2 1/2 sacks, 25 tackles and nine quarterback hits, playing in just 10 games before a shoulder injury ended his fourth NFL season. A reduced role on a unit with Burns and Carter didn't help, and he's not sure where he fits now.

LOS ANGELES — Minutes after getting hit in the helmet by a 95 mph fastball in the second inning Friday, Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras left the game.
Contreras took a Will Klein pitch to the head with one out in the inning, then ran the bases and scored but did not come back out for defense in the bottom of the frame. The Red Sox shifted Nick Sogard from second base to first base to replace Contreras and inserted Anthony Seigler at second.
According to the Red Sox, Contreras departed for "precautionary reasons."
Klein, pitching with two men on base, brushed Contreras back with a high inside fastball at 95.3 mph to start the at-bat. Two pitches later, he hit the slugger right in the side of the helmet at 95.4 mph. Contreras went down to the dirt but got up as interim manager Chad Tracy and a team trainer came out to visit him.
The Red Sox then plated two runs off lefty Cole Irvin to took an early 3-0 lead behind All-Star starter Ranger Suarez.

LAS VEGAS – Down a couple of bigs, the Portland Fire had an opportunity to test the Aces' size and depth at the Michelob ULTRA Arena Tuesday night.
However, despite missing NaLyssa Smith and Cheyenne Parker-Tyus, the defending WNBA champions did not let that faze them.
Coming off the All-Star break — wounded by a 100-99 road defeat to Washington on July 22 — the Aces showed no signs of rust, particularly on offense, brushing aside the Fire, 98-83, on their first visit to Sin City.
The win clinched a season sweep of Portland for Las Vegas (19-8). It was the Aces' fourth victory in their last six games. Head coach Becky Hammon's group never trailed and led by as many as 18 points.
"Pretty good," Hammon said when asked to grade her team's return to action. "Except for that third quarter (Fire outscored the Aces 27-26), we gave up too much there, [but] pretty good. Good job; everybody is just trying to get into a flow. It's hard to replicate game flow in one day of practice, but it was a good game to kind of get back into our groove a little bit."

The NFLPA's P.R. push for grass fields should focus less on making a broad-brush effort to shame the owners into choosing a better surface and more on getting specific teams to flip. That effort, as previously explained, should start with the Seahawks, who are in the process of getting a new owner.
On Tuesday, a pair of Seattle veterans made the case for grass during training-camp press conferences.
Defensive lineman Leonard Williams was asked whether seeing temporary grass at Lumen Field for the World Cup made him wish the grass would remain permanently.
"For sure," Williams told reporters, "I think the whole NFL felt that way. We obviously prefer to be on grass. It's less impact, better on the body. I understand there's a lot of things that go into having grass in the stadium that I don't fully understand yet, but if it was up to a player and it just came down to grass or turf, we obviously prefer grass."
Receiver Cooper Kupp was initially more concise. "That would be sweet," he said with a laugh.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has firmly rejected rumours over Rohit Sharma's international future, stating there is "no question" of the India opener retiring at this stage despite growing speculation during the recent England tour.
Questions over Rohit's future gathered pace after a prolonged lean patch with the bat, with reports suggesting the third ODI against England at Lord's could potentially be his final appearance for India. However, the 39-year-old answered those doubts in emphatic fashion by smashing 138 off 110 **** , becoming the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at the iconic venue.
Speaking to reporters, Shukla rubbished the retirement rumours and insisted there was no truth to the speculation.
"Rohit Sharma is a part of our team and is continuing to play. The things being circulated in the media and on social media have no meaning. As of now, there is no question of his retirement," Shukla said.
Rohit's century at Lord's also reinforced his own stance on his future. The India opener has consistently maintained that he wants to continue representing the country and remains determined to secure a place in India's squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
In an interview with BCCI.tv after his match-winning innings, Rohit made it clear that outside speculation would not distract him from his responsibilities.
"My job is with the bat. Come and play, represent my country, represent my team. That's what I have been told to do since my debut so that's what I am going to do," Rohit said.
"The noise since I made my debut was there. And till the time I am going to stay here, it is always going to be there. So it doesn't really matter too much. What matters is what I do on the field, try and contribute to the success of the team. That's all my focus is right now. And let the noise be there. If there is no noise, there is no fun."
Shukla also brushed aside calls for changes in India's leadership group following criticism directed at captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir.
"Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the decision on who stays in the team and who does not rests with the selectors. The Indian team is performing well and winning matches, so there is no need for any changes at present," Shukla said.
Although Rohit's century at Lord's was one of the highlights of the tour, India finished the United Kingdom leg on a disappointing note. The visitors lost the ODI series against England 2-1 after earlier suffering a 2-0 defeat to Ireland and a 4-0 loss in the T20I series against England.

Showing the kind of murderous touch that has made him the most feared batsman in the IPL, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi blazed to his maiden international half-century as India thrashed Zimbabwe by seven wickets, with 40 ******* to spare, in the opening T20I at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday.
Aged 15 years and 118 days, Sooryavanshi smashed 50 off only 18 ******* in an innings studded with four sixes and four fours.
The teenage batting sensation had endured a difficult start to his international career during India's T20I series against England in July, after scores of 14 (10), 13 (5) and 15 (10) in his first three innings.
Returning to the scene of his 80-ball 175 against England in the 2026 U-19 World Cup final, the precociously talented opener produced a dazzling display to make light work of a modest 126-run chase, racing to an 18-ball fifty.
Sooryavanshi smashed 19 runs off Richard Ngarava in the second over, clobbering the left-arm pacer for two sixes.
Zimbabwe hit back in the third over as Blessing Muzarabani (2-26) had Abhishek Sharma, who scratched around for one off eight ******* , caught at deep backward point off a slash. But Sooryavanshi continued to attack, launching two more sixes straight down the ground besides several fiercely struck boundaries.
He eventually fell to Ngarava in the seventh over, chasing a wide delivery outside off and top-edging to Ben Curran at deep third. By then, however, India had raced to 68 and the youngster had virtually settled the contest.
The visitors completed the chase in just 13.2 overs. The win also ended new T20 captain Shreyas Iyer's winless run, as he registered his maiden victory in his eighth match in charge. Shreyas had lost six of his first seven games as captain during the tours of Ireland and England.
It was also India's first win to kick off the three-match series since lifting the 2026 T20 World Cup in March.
Earlier, India's new-look pace attack starred after the visitors elected to field, with Mayank Yadav (2-18) and Prince Yadav (2-19) sharing four wickets for just 37 runs in eight overs to restrict Zimbabwe to 125 for seven.
Vindicating the selectors' decision to back him despite an ordinary IPL 2026, Mayank made an immediate impact by dismissing opener Brian Bennett, who had scored 97 against India in the 2026 T20 World Cup in Chennai, with the very first ball of the match.
His 150 kmph thunderbolt brushed Bennett's bat before carrying through to wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan, whose review overturned the umpire's decision. Mayank struck again in the fifth over, removing No. 3 batter Dion Myers for six, caught at mid-on.
Prince accounted for the other opener, debutant Ben Curran, as Zimbabwe slumped to 20 for three. The hosts slipped further to 32 for four in the eighth over when captain Sikandar Raza (4) pulled Shivam Dube straight to substitute fielder Suryansh Shedge at deep midwicket.

There is a difference between holding a manager to account and turning him into a punchbag. That line was crossed far too often in the final weeks of Arne Slot's reign at Liverpool, and it is hard to argue with Paul Ince when he described some of the treatment aimed at the Dutchman as "bang out of order".
Speaking to Empire of the Kop, Ince's defence of Slot cuts through a lot of the noise that built around Anfield before the axe finally fell at the end of May. The facts of the season were ugly enough without the need for the sniping, the ridicule and the online bile. Liverpool had gone from Premier League winners to a side limping over the line in fifth. That collapse invited scrutiny. It did not justify the nastier edge that followed.
Slot's second season unravelled in grim fashion. Results dried up, performances became laboured, and the football often felt like a chore to sit through. Liverpool looked blunt, passive and oddly joyless. The possession-heavy approach rarely carried any real threat, and there were too many afternoons when Anfield's frustration was plain to hear.
That frustration was understandable. Liverpool supporters are not fools, and they know when a team is drifting. A **** le-winning glow can fade quickly when standards crash. Yet it is still worth remembering what Slot walked into. Replacing a transformative figure was always going to be a brutal task, and winning the Premier League in his first campaign bought him a place in club history that should not be brushed aside because the next year went sour.
Ince made that point clearly when he said: "I actually felt for Slot. I really, really did. You know, I thought the way he was treated was bang out of order." It is a fair observation. Criticism of his tactics, team selection and game management was part of the job. Personal abuse was not.

The Spanish national team is already in the World Cup final, and its players are not only brushing up against sporting glory, but also a historic financial windfall. The Royal Spanish Football Federation finalized the bonus agreement before the tournament even began. Now, with a place in the final secured, the definitive figures have come to light.
Simply for playing in the final, each Spain player is already guaranteed €440,000 gross. This is the reward set for the World Cup runner-up, a financial floor that rewards the squad's extraordinary run right through to the last day of competition.
However, the biggest prize awaits if Spain manages to lift the trophy. If the national team is crowned champion, each international will pocket €750,000. This figure is an all-time record for Spanish football in this type of tournament.
This incentive of three-quarters of a million euros represents 25% more than what the champions of South Africa 2010 earned. On that historic occasion, the players received €600,000 after beating the Netherlands.

WASHINGTON — Give the Yankees credit for one of the most helter-skelter 3 1/2 months in recent memory. I can’t decide if this team is really a powerhouse or if they’re imposters who’ll break your heart in October (again).
We’ll know soon enough, but the ride has so far been dizzying. The All-Star break is here, and I have vertigo.
Even Cam Schlittler’s brush with the All-Star Game ****** ignment turned into a convoluted mess.
In the span of three days, Schlittler went from being a no-brainer as the American League’s starter to opting out to being told by MLB that if he’s showing up in Philadelphia on Tuesday, he better be ready to take the ball.
That’s a lot of agita for a meaningless game. I’m starting to like the Home Run Derby a lot more.

A devastating double aviation crisis in the Bahamas, including a deadly North Andros plane crash and a separate aircraft fire Friday, prompted the government to suspend flight operations for a local airline and launch a federal safety probe.
Shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, a Cessna 402 aircraft with Bahamian registration departed Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau bound for San Andros Airport.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) said the plane "encountered difficulties" and crashed into bushes prior to landing.

Brad Keselowski's hopes for a strong finish at EchoPark Speedway took an early hit Sunday after the RFK Racing driver brushed the outside wall during the opening laps of the Quaker State 400 Available at Walmart.
Keselowski, who started 10th after a strong qualifying effort, reported over the radio that his No. 6 Ford became tight before the right-rear tire appeared to lose grip.
The contact with the wall dropped him through the field, although the damage was not severe enough to require an immediate pit stop. Keselowski remained on the track but fell to the back of the running order as the race continued.
The difficult start carries significant implications for Keselowski's playoff hopes.
As the field settled into the opening stage, Keselowski was shown running 37th, a dramatic swing after beginning the afternoon inside the top 10. With the race unfolding, he also slipped to the provisional cutoff area in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — A goal kick appeared to clip a cable over the field late in the first half of the England-Norway match in the World Cup quarterfinals on Saturday, shortly before England's Jude Bellingham scored the tying goal.
By rule, if the ball had been noticed hitting the cable, play would have stopped and a drop ball would have been utilized to determine possession.
But in this case, play was not interrupted and it was not known if the video ****** istant referee, Jerome Brisard, reviewed the play. Brisard was also in the VAR role for the Argentina-Egypt match in the quarterfinals, one where Argentina rallied to win 3-2 and Egypt complained that officiating was unfair.
Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland took the kick to start the play in question Saturday, which was controlled by England seconds after the trajectory of the ball changed, suggesting it brushed one of the cables used to suspend a robotically controlled camera. The ball was eventually played to Bellingham, who beat Nyland with a low shot to the far post.
Nyland slapped the turf in frustration and he, Norway star striker Erling Haaland and coach Stale Solbakken had words for referee Clement Turpin of France after the play and going into halftime.

Even as Bavi continues to slow and weaken on its northwesterly path, the typhoon is still a potent risk due to the sheer volume of moisture it holds within its rain bands, about the size of France from end to end.
Bavi had maximum sustained winds of about 144 km per hour (90 mph), equivalent to Category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, when it made landfall at around 11:20 p.m. local time (1520 GMT), according to the National Meteorological Center.
State media said more than 1.7 million people had been evacuated across Zhejiang province, where Taizhou is located, along with more than 100,000 each from neighbouring Fujian province and Beijing, and some 34,000 from Shanghai.
