President Donald Trump distanced himself from voters' ire with Republicans ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, telling Punchbowl News in an interview released Friday he thinks voters are angry with the party more generally, but not him.
"The question is will they vote? 'Cause a lot of them are very angry at Republicans to be honest with you," he said, noting that he's not on the ballot and adding, "They're not angry at me, but they are angry at Republicans."
Republicans are trailing Democrats on the generic congressional ballot by 8 points among registered voters, according to a CNN poll conducted by SSRS out late last month, indicating the electorate is agitating for wholesale changes in Congress.
Democrats also continue to hold a significant advantage in voter enthusiasm and have a 20-point advantage in preferences among those who say they are extremely motivated to vote. And 63% of Americans say the GOP is focusing too little on cost-of-living issues, compared with 52% who say the Democrats aren't spending enough time on it.
The president defended himself from criticisms within his own party that he doesn't care about Congress and losing the majority, pointing to his endorsements and appearances on the trail while arguing that he doesn't have to campaign because he's not running.

Burnley midfielder Josh Laurent has praised the open communication he has with new boss Nicky Hayen ahead of their upcoming Championship season.
Hayen has been vocal about being open to exits for players who wish to leave.
"He is very honest and very open, I think it's nice," Laurent told BBC Radio Lancashire.
"You know exactly where you are as people and as players and you can work from that. I don't think you could ever be angry with someone's opinion, and now it's clear.
"You want people that want to play football for Burnley. I think it's a mutual understanding between everyone and I think it can only be a positive thing."

Florida State offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. and defensive coordinator Tony White spoke on Wednesday, recapping FSU's scrimmage.
Harris Jr. focused on communication and tempo, saying the offense's install has to move faster than most because of the volume FSU's defense throws at it in practice. He said Ashton Daniels' confidence has grown daily and that he handled pre-snap adjustments flawlessly in Tuesday's scrimmage, with Kevin and Dean also getting positive reviews. Harris pointed to yards after contact as a season-long emphasis for the running backs, also noting Tre Wisner was held out of the scrimmage with a minor issue. He also said Tuesday marked the first true dry run of game-day operation (press box staffed, sideline communication and iPads used as they would be in a game) and called it clean.
White said he left the scrimmage angry but changed his mind after watching the film, calling the sideline operation better than nearly any point last season and the tackling cleaner than a typical first scrimmage. He described a disruptive defensive line with a couple of sacks and roughly 10 tackles for loss, and credited the group's offseason work for turning thinking into instinct. In a long-form interview with The Sunday Times, the Grammy winner opened up about his three failed marriages and revealed he hopes to fall in love again.
"My personal life is a minefield," Phil, 75, told the outlet, before describing how his first marriage, to childhood sweetheart Andrea Bertorelli, failed after his constant international touring with the band Genesis impelled her to have an affair with their interior decorator.
"I felt I had a duty to the guys (in the band) not to be the one to say, I'm sorry, I can't go to America three times this year and Europe twice and ******* an," he explained, before adding he had been "frustrated and angry" that Andrea had not been particularly understanding.

If we've learned nothing about sports documentaries in recent years, it's that the subjects of the documentaries often have the ability to keep some of the facts that have been documented from being included in the finished product.
And so it should surprise no one that Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield had the ability to pull the plug on anything that the producers of the Quarterback series proposed for inclusion into the final cut.
The topic came up during Mayfield's Thursday press conference, the one that focused primarily on his contract situation with the team.
"To be honest with you, I didn't watch the full series," Mayfield said. "They sent all the clips of us in it, just so I could give the final OK. So that's probably the part that I do regret a little bit, but that's the fire on the field, unfortunately, that comes out on TV.

Trace Adkins says he has forgiven his second wife, Julie Lauren Curtis, for shooting him through the heart and lungs during an argument more than three decades ago.
The country singer revisited the near-fatal 1994 incident during a July 28 appearance on This Past Weekend With Theo Von.
Although Adkins joked that Curtis "took it a little far," he also described the point-blank gunshot as a "kill shot" that he would not have survived without emergency medical care.
Adkins declined to press charges after the shooting. He now says he does not believe Curtis fully understood what the gun would do when she pulled the trigger.
"That took it a little far, I thought," he told Theo Von. "That was uncalled for. That was totally uncalled for. Just leave. Let's just call it quits, and we don't have to go that far." According to Adkins, Curtis was angry and wanted him to leave their home, but he refused. During the argument, she placed the gun beneath his left arm. When he told her to give it to him, she fired.

That game will be packed but today's friendly against a lightweight AC Milan side that will be missing multiple top performers, will not be well attended due to the Celtic support once again being frustrated and angry with the club for creating another summer of discontent through their inactivity in transfer market, so far only getting one deal over the line with the £5m signing of Camilo Duran from Qarabag.
That transfer fee has been more than covered by the sale of Luis Palma to Lech Poznan for £3.5m and Maik Nawrocki to RC Lens for £2m. And with Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson in discussions to sign four new players, it looks like the delay could be caused by an instruction to wait for sales of key players like Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels before proceeding with the purchases Martin O'Neill needs this week.
Maeda should compete his move to Ipswich Town today and that could result in Kasper Hogh from Bodo Glimt coming to Celtic early next week, fingers crossed anyway.
Meanwhile Celtic are haggling over a few hundred grand which is frustrating the move for German midfielder Mika Baur with SC Paderborn resisting the latest Celtic lowballing attempt for their player who has already agreed personal terms with the Scottish Champions and wants the move to happen.

Adeyemi has completed his transfer from Borussia Dortmund and was asked about the prospect of lining up with Yamal for his new team at his unveiling.
"I don't know him personally, but his actions speak for themselves. He's an incredible player. I can connect with him. I'm the player who comes running from behind, who takes advantage of his passes. I hope to connect very well with him, but also with the rest of the team," he explained.

The reigning Scottish Premiership Champions are said to be locked in talks with the German U21 cap’s club SC Paderborn at present, in the hopes of finalising a deal for the midfielder.
In a bolt out of the blue earlier this week, Baur’s name hit the headlines in connection with Celtic when both Fabrizio Romano and Florian Plettenberg reported that Martin O’Neill’s side were in talks with the 22-year-old central midfield ace, having already agreed personal terms on a possible contract with the player. This meant that only a fee had to be agreed between Celtic and Paderborn.
Easier said than done, wherever Michael Nicholson is concerned many Celtic supporters immediately thought.
Nevertheless, it was a much needed update and shot in the arm for a support that has grown increasingly frustrated and even angry at the way the club slowly conducts it’s business in the transfer market for some time now.

Manchester United fans have reacted with fury after "thousands" had their season-ticket accounts restricted.
The action follows an attempt by United to identify potential ticket touts and those breaking the club's ticketing terms and conditions.
But supporters have told BBC Sport that those who have been informed their season tickets are now at risk of being revoked include many of the club's most loyal followers, and insist that the majority have done nothing wrong.
"I feel angry about it - they just want us gone," Andy, a season ticket holder for more than 35 years, who was informed his account has been restricted on Monday night, told BBC Sport.
"My dad has been a season-ticket holder since 1974, when we were in the second division. He is a pensioner now and I have to help him with all the online stuff since digital tickets became a thing.

Mike Clay is not backing down from his controversial evaluation of Detroit Lions offensive tackle Penei Sewell. In fact, the ESPN ******* yst doubled down by challenging angry Lions fans to provide something more substantial than complaints on social media.
Clay sparked a heated debate after ranking Sewell as the NFL’s 10th-best offensive tackle entering the 2026 season. That placement immediately drew criticism from Detroit supporters, especially after a separate ESPN survey of more than 70 league executives, coaches, and scouts ranked Sewell as the best offensive tackle in football.
Clay’s offensive line ratings were not presented strictly as his personal opinion. He explained that the rankings were compiled using several factors, including pass block and run block win rates, Pro Football Focus grades, draft capital and playing time.

The 39-year-old is known to let his football do the talking on the field, but there was a tense moment between the legend and Portuguese referee Joao Pinheiro during the clash.
It seems Messi had to remind the referee about who he is and how he should be treated.

Jude Bellingham was excellent and had a brace, but his goal athe 45’+2’ mark probably should not have counted as the ball struck a cable for the overhead camera in the moments before the goal. Per FIFA rules, the play should have been blown dead.
As we know now, it was not, Bellingham eventually scored, and there will be a nation of angry folks stewing about it. AS journalist Joe Brennan broke the play down this way:
As the ball came down from a Norway free-kick to be controlled by an England player, it hit the overhead camera wire that suspends the spider-cam above the pitch.

Tanden, the CEO of the Center for American Progress, a center-left think tank that had deep ties to the Biden and Obama administrations, has been critical of Platner for months.
"I will remain incredibly angry at the people who didn't vet this candidate, but in life you don't get the best choices. Unless people show a lot more courage than they have," Tanden said in an X post that was re-upped Monday.

The racism chapter involving Senator Celeste Amarillo seems far from over, because after the Paraguayan government condemned her racist messages against Kylian Mbappé, she struck again and is now demanding an apology from the French player.

South Korean football is dead - those words on the sign floating above the angry crowd said it all.
Fans had gathered outside Seoul's Incheon airport to confront the national team as they returned home after being knocked out of the World Cup in the group stage.
Their ire was directed at one man in particular: coach Hong Myung-bo, a former captain and footballing hero now faulted for his team's unimpressive run on the biggest sporting stage.
And they couldn't have made that clearer. Supporters beat drums and shouted, "Hong out!", some even following him all the way to his car, even as others cheered for the players walking behind Hong. One football fan told the BBC that ahead of the World Cup, people talked less about the team and "kept saying Hong should step down".
His appointment was met with opposition right from the start, embroiling the Korea Football **** ociation (KFA) in a drawn-out controversy. Critics have long accused it of lacking transparency and fairness, saying coaches and key figures were often picked because of personal connections rather than a merit-based process - an allegation the KFA has denied.

A puff of the cheeks, a drop of the shoulders and a sumptuous dipper to seal the deal. It may have been somewhat of a surprise when, eight minutes from time and 20 yards out, Christian Pulisic did not step up to take a free-kick just outside the Bosnia and Herzegovina penalty area. But US midfielder Malik Tillman made a mockery of such thoughts and, with it, secured American progression to the last-16 of the World Cup 2026. Their World Cup.
It is a first knockout victory in 24 years and just their second in World Cup history. And yet, five days out from a rip-roaring last-16 tie against Belgium, there is a rather big but.
Amongst 70,000, Folarin Balogun was one of thousands bemused. Some were downright angry. After jumping to his feet post-medical treatment, Mauricio Pochettino’s star striker – who scored the opening goal in the first-half, his third of the tournament – received a red card from Brazilian referee Raphael Claus for “serious foul play” midway through the second-half. Replays, aired at excruciatingly super-slow motion, showed Balogun’s foot scrape down the calf of Bosnian defender Tarik Muharemovic amidst a tangle of legs. On the field, the official did not even give a free- kick before the controversial VAR referral. There were no Bosnian appeals.

Residents said Israeli troops fired warnings shots at walls and between the angry protesters, before firing artillery rounds at the village. No one was harmed in the exchange, but most residents fled, and most were still too afraid to return on Monday. Many fear that there will now be more intense incursions and raids following the skirmish.
"They come into the village regularly, every few days," said resident Mohammad al-Hassan, standing not far from a group of children looking at an exploded shell. "They come in armored 4x4 vehicles, they roam around the village and search some houses, they knock on doors and if people don't answer the door they break it down and enter the houses.
