For many, retiring early is a dream. Roughly 59% of American adults surveyed by YouGov in 2024 [1] said they would like to retire before the age of 65.
But if you're part of the 41% who are still considering a traditional retirement age, there could be plenty of reasons to reconsider.

As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prepare to take up residency again in the U.K. six years after giving up their royal roles, Markle will be serving up her fashion influence and continue running her brand, As Ever.
While millions around the globe are chiming in about what their surprise decision could mean to the modern monarchy, others speculated about how commercial prospects may have played into their decision to relocate with their two children Archie, 7, and Lillibet, 5. Much has happened since Princess Diana and King Charles III's younger son lost his honorary military and royal patronage appointments in 2021.
The prince spelled out his many grievances with his kin in his memoir "Spare," and the pair sounded off in an interview with Oprah Winfrey. Harry has also openly criticized his home country for not providing his family of four with security. As for how that will be handled in a few weeks upon their return, Prime Minister Andy Burnham described that as "a private matter."
Although King Charles III and Queen Camilla were reunited with Harry's two children earlier this month at the monarch's private country estate Highgrove House, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, were not there. The strained relations between Harry and his brother continue to be scrutinized on social media and in traditional media.
David Haigh, founder and chief executive officer of the independent brand evaluation consultancy firm Brand Finance, said, "My take is they clearly haven't succeeded in America like they thought they would."
Acknowledging how Harry and Markle each have critics and loyalists, Haigh said that Harry is "much more highly regarded in the U.K. than Markle is. And the dynamic will shift much more in his favor."
To that point, the latest YouGov public opinion poll of Harry gives him a 27 percent popularity ranking and Markle an 18 percent rating. But Markle has a track record for boosting designers' sales by wearing their label. She sported 16 Australian labels during a trip Down Under in April. That resulted in a total of $51.6 million in media impact value over a four-day stretch, according to Launchmetrics.
Carolina Herrera, Heidi Merrick, Dior, Valentino, Mackage, Emilia Wickstead, Victoria Beard, Reformation, Jason Wu and Anine Bing are among the many brands that 45-year-old Markle has rotated into her wardrobe. In addition to launching the lifestyle brand As Ever in the spring of last year, the former "Suits" actress and her husband were the executive producers for the documentary "Cookie Queens" about American Girl Scouts' cookie selling.

Last month, she earned an Emmy nomination for her Netflix lifestyle series "With Love, Meghan." In September 2020, the husband-and-wife team's Archewell Productions secured a multiyear deal with Netflix, which was reportedly in the $60 million to $100 million range.

Ask people to picture their favorite food, and creamy pasta, hot pepperoni pizza, and indulgent gelato beat out sushi, tacos, and even McDonald's.
Italian food consistently ranks as the world's most popular cuisine, edging out Chinese and **** anese in global surveys. A 2019 YouGov poll of more than 25,000 people across 24 countries put Italian in first place among 34 national cuisines.
But popularity hasn't been enough to shield Italian restaurants from rising labor and food costs. Over the past few years, some of the biggest names in the category have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, from Bravo Brio to Pizza Hut, Bertucci's, and Buca di Beppo.
Earlier this year, I reported that fast-casual chain Fazoli's had joined that list. In January 2026, its parent company, California-based FAT Brands Inc., filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.
Now, Fazoli's is closing restaurants across the country, and the numbers are worse than most people realize.

The highest-profile marking of America's 250th anniversary thus far came last month, when the White House hosted an Ultimate Fighting Championship fight card on the South Lawn. It is no big surprise that three-quarters of Democrats found the spectacle inappropriate, versus less than a quarter of Republicans.
Now some states are displaying their partisan colors over the Trump administration's Great American State Fair. At least 10 states led by Democratic governors have confirmed they won't officially participate in the event, which began on Thursday on the National Mall. An Oregon spokesman said the event was "shaping up to be a more partisan affair than originally presented."
But partisanship isn't the only force dividing the country over how we should be celebrating America's 250th. It turns out there is a gender divide as well.
Compared to men, women are less engaged with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. They also hold significantly different views on what events surrounding the historic occasion should emphasize: less founding fathers, more bringing people together.
Data from a national poll conducted by my university, Bowling Green State University, in conjunction with YouGov, makes the gender gap plain. We surveyed a sample of 1,200 U.S. registered voters in February. The poll has a 3.2 percent margin of error.

It's been a while since consumers across America started cutting back on discretionary spending to cope with rising inflation.
A March YouGov report reveals that a financial outlook strongly shapes intentions to reduce spending. For example, it explains that consumers who expect their financial situation to worsen are more likely to cut back on clothing purchases.
The U.S. Department of Commerce also noted that clothing store sales dropped another 0.7% month over month at the end of December 2025.
I recently reported how WH Smith, owner of several Las Vegas Strip clothing stores, including the Marshall Rousso and Misura brands, is quietly shutting down 26 retail locations. The ongoing decline in Las Vegas tourism, with visitors gambling more and shopping less, has left many high-end resort boutiques feeling squeezed.
However, WH Smith's regulatory filings reveal a much bigger move: a full-scale continental retreat, triggered by a multi-million-dollar corporate scandal.

At least since the Republican Party suffered a comprehensive defeat in last month’s off-year elections, Donald Trump’s public support has been spiraling downward even faster than before. A new YouGov/Economist poll reports that Trump’s approval rating is now down to 38 percent.
With three years remaining in Trump’s second term, and further losses in next year’s midterms looking likely, the question now is whether he can regain control or is headed for a devastating crash.
Trump’s softening support is amplified by growing rumors about his health and reports on his reduced public schedule. Eve

A new poll found that more Americans are unhappy with President Donald Trump's stances on the economy and cost of living, with almost twice as many saying the president has helped raise prices rather than lowering them.
In a Yahoo/YouGov poll conducted Nov. 21-24, 49% of respondents said Trump's actions since taking office for his second term in January have raised prices instead of cutting them. That's a nearly two-to-one ratio to the 24% who said he's done more to lower costs.
The survey also found more Americans (38%) now blame Trump more for inflation than his predecessor, former Preside

Poll compares popularity of Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene's stance on Epstein files
After months of opposition, President Trump finally signed a law last week requiring the Justice Department to release all of its files related to the investigation of convicted **** offender Jeffrey Epstein.
But even then, just a quarter of Americans (25%) think the president has “followed through” on his promise to make the Epstein files public, according to a new Yahoo/YouGov poll. Nearly twice as many say he has not (48%), and the rest (27%) are unsure.

The latest polls are in agreement: 57% of respondents to a recent YouGov/Economist survey disapproved of the president’s handling of major issues, including jobs and the economy (1), and 57% of respondents to a Quinnipiac University poll say the same (2).
This is an opinion certainly shared by Lynn from Missouri, a 31-year-old hairstylist who, as Newsweek reports (3), told Caleb Hammer that she believes President Donald Trump’s return to the White House is the cause of her debt, while speaking to him on a recent episode of his podcast, Financial Audit.
