Fresh off the franchise's first World Series victory, the Milwaukee Brewers are reading to celebrate with all of Wisconsin. After beating the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 on Wednesday, Brewers returned to Milwaukee on Thursday, and made their first major stop at the Green Bay Packers' primetime matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
During a break after the first quarter of Thursday's game, several players emerged from the tunnel at Lambeau Field with the World Series trophy held high, earning a roar from the Packers crowd.
The Brewers' appearance at Lambeau was slightly spoiled by right fielder Sal Frelick, who joined ESPN's "Sportscenter" for an interview while on the bus to Green Bay. Frelick was candid about how the celebrations had been going since beating the Rays on Wednesday.
"It's been crazy. Not a lot of sleep, late night last night, early bus to the airport this morning. Just got back here to Milwaukee and now we're headed up north," Frelick said, panning to show his teammates, including the trophy-carting ace Jacob Misiorowski.
Once in Lambeau, some players — including Frelick — opted to do a Lambeau Leap into the crowd as part of the first-quarter break.

Rays on the verge of ensuring ultra-rare World Series phenomenon appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Tampa Bay Rays are being pushed to their limit by the Cleveland Guardians. Nonetheless, over the past two days, the Rays have shown why they were the best team in the AL this past season. After falling down 2-1 in the ALCS, the Rays have bounced back with two consecutive victories on the road — with Tampa Bay having taken a 3-2 lead in the series courtesy of a 3-1 win on Sunday.
With that victory, the Rays are now knocking on the door of the World Series, where the Milwaukee Brewers await. It seems like the postponement of Friday night's contest due to inclement weather helped them immensely, as Game 6 (as well as Game 7, if necessary) will be at Tropicana Field — giving Tampa Bay a golden opportunity to secure their third appearance in the Fall Classic.
Moreover, if the Rays were to win another game against the Guardians in the ALCS, they would ensure a rare World Series phenomenon with the Milwaukee Brewers already waiting on the other side of the bracket. As per Rays insider Steve Carney, if Tampa Bay were to advance to the next round, this would be the first World Series matchup in 46 years between two teams that have never won a ******* le.

If Carlos Correa is able to return to the Houston Astros lineup by the end of the regular season, he could play second base, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reports.
Correa, who turns 32 on Sept. 22, has been on the injured list since May 6 with a torn tendon in his left ankle that required surgery to repair. His 2026 season was believed to be over, as a result.
However, the 12-year veteran has been progressing well in his recovery and ran the bases earlier this week. The plan is for Correa to take up to 10 at-bats in live batting practice at the Astros' spring-training complex in West Palm Beach, Florida. If he doesn't deal with any setbacks, Correa could go on a minor-league rehab **** ignment with Triple-A Sugar Land next week.
Carlos Correa has reported to West Palm Beach and hit in the cages and took grounders there today, Joe Espada said. The plan is for Correa to start hitting on the field Monday.
In 32 games this season, Correa recorded a .279/.369/.418 slash average with 3 home runs, 8 doubles and 16 RBI. He played 23 games at shortstop and 14 at third base.

Baker Mayfield gets dangerous weapon back ahead of Bengals clash originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka appears ready to go for Week 1 after a toe injury created some uncertainty around his status during the preseason.
Egbuka returned to full practice this week and is expected to play when Tampa Bay takes on the Cincinnati Bengals, giving quarterback Baker Mayfield one of his most dangerous weapons for a matchup that has the potential to become a high-scoring affair.
The second-year receiver enters the season with plenty of expectations after showing flashes of becoming a legitimate No. 1 option early in his rookie campaign.
Egbuka demonstrated his ability to create separation, make plays after the catch and stretch defenses before injuries became a factor. His own health issues, combined with injuries affecting Mayfield, prevented Tampa Bay from consistently taking advantage of the chemistry the two displayed earlier in the season.

We are just a few days away from the start of the Minnesota Vikings season, as they open at home against the Green Bay Packers. Minnesota looks to brush off a very up-and-down 2025 season as they look to get back into the playoffs. It starts in week one, and here are three keys for the offense in Week 1.
The Vikings finished last season 23rd in rushing yards, but 12th in yards per carry. They bring back both Aaron Jones Sr. and Jordan Mason from a year ago, who did well in limited carries. If Minnesota wants to win this Sunday, they will need to establish the run, but not abandon it so quickly as they did last season.
2025 was a disappointing year for Justin Jefferson, finishing with career lows in receptions (84), yards (1,048), and touchdowns (2). This was largely due to horrific quarterback play, which has improved with the addition of Kyler Murray. Murray and Kevin O'Connell need to get Jefferson involved early and often to get him in rhythm and to open up guys like Jordan Addison and Jauan Jennings.
The Packers finished tied for last in the NFL in interceptions forced, which should be viewed as a major advantage for the Vikings. However, Minnesota threw the most interceptions in the NFL last season with a staggering total of 21. If Minnesota wants to win at home in week one, they need to keep the turnovers to a minimum and maintain possession.

Cornerback DJ Turner was added to the Bengals injury report on Thursday.
The team listed Turner as a limited participant due to a hamstring injury. Mid-week additions to the report can foreshadow a Sunday absence and the team's Friday report will show if there's reason to worry about Turner missing the matchup with the Buccaneers.
Defensive linemen Jonathan Allen and B.J. Hill took rest days on Thursday.
Wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase (knee) and Tee Higgins (foot) remained full participants and both players are on track to play in the opener. Head coach Zac Taylor was less certain about defensive end Shemar Stewart (knee), but he was also able to get in a full session for the second day in a row.

The Ballon d'Or is considered the most prestigious individual award in soccer, and the 2026 gala is fast approaching as we will soon learn the latest player to be enshrined into global greatness.
Last year's men's winner Ousmane Dembele could be up for another triumph, but in all likelihood, a new winner is expected to be crowned.
Rodri, the 2024 winner, put himself back up for the award with a stunning run to a World Cup ****** le this summer, while Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, and Michael Olise are considered contenders as well. Lionel Messi would have potentially been a candidate and is likely to be included on the list thanks to another World Cup full of heroics, but defeat in the final probably ended any chance of lifting a record-extending ninth trophy.
The Sporting News brings you a look at who has been nominated for this year's award, as the list of players from which the winner will be selected has been revealed.

The NFL spends the entire summer building up to the regular season, with training camps and preseason games leading up to initial 53-man roster construction at the roster cut deadline.
Then you've got this relatively quiet week leading up to Labor Day, where nothing much outside a few mostly closed practices. Gone is the cutdown drama and all those practice video clips that are given too much stock.
There's a small dead period without roster moves or big news. We're in it right now.
Next week is officially Week 1. In other words, go time.
That makes this little lull a perfect time to discuss your questions and comments about what the Commanders have and what comes next. I asked for conversation topics and we got plenty. Let's get right to them in this Commanders mailbag:

Even with significant roster turnover, Alabama has high hopes after coach Kalen DeBoer led the Crimson Tide to the national quarterfinals last season.
Receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams, known as Ryan Williams his first two years, is back as potentially one of the nation's most explosive receivers. He's the only returning offensive starter for the Crimson Tide. Keelon Russell won the starting quarterback job in fall camp and will replace Ty Simpson.
Linebacker Yhonzae Pierre is back to lead what should be a stout defense. He led Alabama with 14.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks and nine quarterback pressures last season. Zabien Brown, the team's top cornerback, had two interception returns for touchdowns a year ago.

BATON ROUGE — A Louisiana judge delivered a profound ruling amid an ongoing legal fight that the NCAA, and in this case the Southeastern Conference, has found itself in all over the country.
East Baton Rouge 19th District Court Judge Will Jorden granted a preliminary injunction that allows 31 athletes a fifth year of eligibility in college after more than nine hours of court proceedings on Sept. 3. The court order paves the way for LSU football coach Lane Kiffin and his program to safely add ex-NFL players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris to the roster.
It marks the first time that a court ruling has allowed for professional athletes to return to college, a notion that could send shockwaves throughout collegiate athletics.

On Saturday, USC opened up its 2026 season by handling San Jose State 42-26 at the Coliseum. With the victory, the Trojans started off the year 1-0.
Earlier this week, the **** ociated Press announced its national player of the week for Week 0 of the college football season. Taking home the honor—and becoming the first player to do so this year—was USC quarterback Jayden Maiava.
Playing only the first three quarters of the game, Maiava kicked off his senior season with one of his most accurate performances. He finished the day completing 25 of his 29 pass attempts for 286 yards and two touchdowns while also adding a score on the ground.
"I think there's a lot of room for me to stay patient as well as a quarterback," Maiava said following Tuesday's practice. "Just continue making the right winning-decision plays and getting the ball in the playmaker's hands."
Obviously, significantly fewer teams were playing in Week 0 than in a typical week, notably decreasing Maiava's competition for the honor. However, it was still a very good performance by USC's quarterback in his season debut.

Matt Entz is coaching at Fresno State, not Ohio State. He is coaching in the Football Bowl Subdivision's lower realm, not in its top tier, a point which will be magnified when Fresno State faces USC this Friday. Yet, as USA TODAY Sports reports, Entz is getting major investments and backing from his bosses and Fresno State football donors.
"Entz also is embracing the vision of his athletic director, Garrett Klassy, whose previous experience includes Alabama and Houston in upper-cabinet roles. Klassy's vision for Fresno's "Valley Co-Op" has Entz touting a "quadrupled" monetary investment into the Bulldogs' football roster and sees Klassy linking it to the region.
"'I needed coaches, I needed more boots on the street, for lack of a better term, because it couldn't just be myself, it couldn't just be our Bulldog Foundation staff out there,' Klassy says of the program, which he relates to the San Joaquin Valley's 3 million residents and agricultural roots. 'And the coaches, it's really resonated with the coaches, and we do have a lot of supporters that give to multiple programs. There's two areas where we can make up ground on the rest of the league and that's philanthropic giving. And that's corporate sponsorship, and so we need to grow those immensely. And we're going to announce a record fundraising year, which is $5 million more annually than it was the previous year. Corporate sponsorships with the jersey patches are almost across the finish line; we should be up $2 to $3 million in that area. Now that doesn't make a big difference in the SEC or Big Ten, but that makes a huge difference for us.'
Klassy envisions the 4,300-member Valley Co-Op swelling to 7,000 across the next year.
"Entz, meanwhile, wants Fresno football to live up to its billing as the region's top draw.

Scotland and the Netherlands have tied their one-day-international series 1-1 after the third match was abandoned without a ball being bowled at Stirling County following heavy and persistent rain throughout the day.
The series was arranged at short notice as the Dutch women sought to regain their ODI ranking and avoid a substantial funding cut next year.
The visitors won the opening match by 58 runs at Clydesdale, with the Scots securing a convincing nine-wicket victory in a rain-affected second in Stirling.
However, it does mean that the Dutch have done enough to secure their ranking and much-needed funds.

The Portland Trail Blazers star Ja Morant has officially put his Memphis days behind him, as he no longer has a home in the city where he was drafted. The former Grizzlies player sold his two-story mansion in Memphis, Tennessee, for a reported amount of $3.2 million earlier this week after initially listing it for $3.5 million.
He initially paid $3.05 million for the mansion and has since made a $150,000 profit on the sale four years after buying it in 2022, when he signed his $197.2 million max contract with the Grizzlies. The house reportedly has seven bedrooms and spans 13,836 square feet on 6.45 acres.
'Homes of Celebs' got an inside look at the property. They described that it has a beautiful foyer, a home office, a living room with a built-in bar, a formal dining room, a kitchen, a private lounge, an en-suite bathroom, walk-in closets, a salon, a poker room, a billiards room, a sauna, a movie theater, and much more.
This property is apparently just 62 feet away from a property that he bought for his parents with his first contract in 2019. Morant reportedly has a net worth of $50 million and has already earned about $150 million through 2026 of his $236.8 million in guaranteed career earnings (leaving almost $87 million in future earnings over the next two years).
The 27-year-old begins a new life in Portland with the Trail Blazers, now looking to bounce back from a controversy-ridden 2025-26 season in Memphis. Former NBA players Isaiah Thomas, Matt Barnes, and Stephen Jackson feel all eyes will be on Ja Morant in 2026-27 for a comeback season.

BRENHAM - The bleachers are gone. So is the large blue sign that celebrated Blinn College's four national championships.
The cramped office where Willie Fritz began his head-coaching career is now a parking lot.
On a recent Sunday afternoon, there was little to suggest that the patch of grass in the middle of campus was once home to one of the greatest stretches in junior college football history.
With preseason camp still days away, a blocking sled sat idle in the grass. A lone goal post stood at one end.
Nearly 30 years after Fritz last coached here, much of the history is stored away in boxes filled with old photos, game programs and statistics - remnants of an ***** og era. Home games moved away from campus 17 years ago.

The Atlanta Falcons made their first big move to get under the 53-man limit by cutting 11 players on Saturday. This roster shakeup includes the surprising release of linebacker Channing Tindall and the placement of cornerback Darren Hall on injured reserve. According to reports, the team waived seven players, moved Hall to IR, and released three others to reach 79 total players. This is a massive shift for a roster that looked different just 24 hours ago.
Many fans will feel the sting of seeing Channing Tindall go. He stood out in the preseason win over the Indianapolis Colts, yet the team decided to move on. Falcons Wire reported that Tindall, along with defensive back Keidron Smith and tight end Joshua Simon, will have to look for work elsewhere. The front office clearly wants a different mix of talent for this new era under Kevin Stefanski. It hurts to lose a player who showed promise, but the math of the roster forces these tough choices.
Placing Darren Hall on injured reserve is a financial and strategic blow that many missed. Hall was a fourth-round pick who signed a four-year deal worth $4,284,748 with an $804,748 signing bonus on that rookie deal. NFL Trade Rumors observed that his contract entered its third year when Atlanta released him following the preseason. The team signed him to a new contract in May, only to cut him just weeks later. This looks like a clear signal that the coaching staff does not see him as a key part of the long-term plan.
In 2025, Hall played 13 games for the Cardinals while tallying 21 total tackles. He was a solid contributor, but the Falcons are willing to eat the cost to clear a spot for someone they believe is better. The move saves cap ***** e but leaves a hole in the secondary depth. It is a risky gamble to cut a player so quickly, but the new regime is not afraid to make bold moves.
The final cuts also included wide receiver Keelan Marion, defensive tackle Devonnsha Maxwell, and offensive lineman Andrew Stueber. Falcons Wire listed these names among the notable players waived on Saturday afternoon. Marion ended the final game versus the Dolphins with a single catch for nine yards, yet his tenure in Atlanta has concluded. The team now has 24 hours left to get the roster down to the final 53 before the Sunday evening deadline.

Ever since the New York Giants signed former first-round pick Odell Beckham Jr. at the beginning of June, the former Pro Bowler has been on a mission to make the roster. The Giants closed the preseason Friday with a 23-6 victory over the New York Jets, and Beckham played a prominent role on offense.
His three-catch performance on six targets came after what head coach John Harbaugh considered Beckham's best week of camp.
Beckham raised his level of play at the right time, finishing the preseason strong ahead of cutdown day this weekend.
An emotional Beckham admitted he was grateful for the opportunity the Giants gave him to show he still has some gas left in the tank, and he shared what making the roster would mean to him.
"It would mean everything," Beckham said. "It would be my dream. This is where I started. There's no place I want to give my whole heart to, more than any place in the world, than this place right here."

Aug. 28—MINNEAPOLIS — A recent study from the Action Network, a sports news, betting and ******* ysis media company, found that the average family of four can expect to spend $1,369 to attend a Vikings regular season home game.
That number is derived from a sampling of ticket prices, parking and concession prices, and is actually down from 2025, when the same study found a family of four would spent $1,515 for a Vikings game.
I don't know about you, but that's a little out of my price range, even though I'm only paying for a family of three. PHOENIX (AP) — The Chicago Cubs set a franchise record on Tuesday by scoring their 30th unanswered run over three games, breaking the previous record of 29 over a three-game stretch in 1969.
The Cubs started the streak on Sunday, falling behind 2-0 in the early innings against the Seattle Mariners before rallying for a 19-2 win.
Chicago then blanked the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-0 on Monday and jumped to a 4-0 lead in Tuesday's game against the D-backs.
The previous record of 29 happened in 1876 and more recently from May 11-13 in 1969, according to Elias Sports Bureau. During that stretch, the Cubs shut out the San Francisco Giants 8-0 before beating the San Diego Padres 2-0 and 19-0 in consecutive games.

Real Madrid may have begun the 2026/27 La Liga season with three points, but their opening weekend was followed by a familiar controversy away from the pitch.
Following the win over Espanyol, Real Madrid TV returned to one of its most debated themes: refereeing decisions involving the first team.
This time, the club's official television channel focused on the treatment received by Vinicius Jr. and drew a direct comparison with Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal.
The basis of their argument was that Vinicius was repeatedly fouled without Espanyol players being punished with yellow cards, while Lamine Yamal received greater protection in a comparable situation.
Real Madrid's opening-day victory came after a late goal by Carlo Espi secured all three points, but the match was far from short of tension.

Rory McIlroy's key to re-unlocking his golf swing?
Putter grips on his 7-iron and lob wedge.
McIlroy was spotted on the range at Bellerive hitting **** with Flat Cat putter grips attached at 45-degree angles to both clubs. He explained to Golf Channel's Kira Dixon on Thursday that his right arm was staying too straight in the backswing and was getting too far across the line at the top, not supporting the club like it should.

The putter grips serve as a training aid for McIlroy's right hand, helping him get the feel of where the club needs to be hallway back, which then corrects everything else. McIlroy discovered the solution with his instructor Michael Bannon upon returning home last Sunday evening.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — Near the foyer of the new joint training facility for the WNBA's Portland Fire and the NWSL's Portland Thorns is an expansive set of lighted shelves enclosed by glass.
It's the trophy case, "soon to be filled," said Lisa Bhathal Merage, who owns both teams with her brother Alex Bhathal.

According to a report by Michael Ozanian and Jessica Golden at CNBC, the private equity firm Arctos has agreed to buy 10% of the Atlanta Falcons from team owner Arthur Blank at a $10.6 billion valuation.
That means Mr. Blank (or his limited partners) will be getting a cool $1.6 billion from the partial sale, although it won't be coming all at once. CNBC's report states Arctos will be paying for the 10% ownership in two installments over the next 18 months.
"Private equity firm Arctos has agreed to buy 10% of the Atlanta Falcons, according to two people who asked not to be named because they are not authorized to speak on the matter. Arthur Blank currently owns just under 73% of the Falcons. It is unclear if the 10% being sold is just Blank's stake or includes limited partners."
The Falcons were recently ranked one of the NFL's 10 most-valuable franchises, having risen 39% in value over the last calendar year.
Neither the franchise nor Arctos responded to a request for comment on the report.

Everton are weighing a significant move in the market, with TeamTalk reporting that Como winger ******* ane Diao has emerged as a serious option while the club continue to ******* s whether a deal for Jack Grealish is realistic.
Recruitment at Goodison Park appears focused on adding more quality in the wide areas before the window closes. Diao, the 20-year-old Senegal international, is viewed as a player with the right profile and the right upside. He is also described as being "keen on a switch to the Premier League", a factor that could become important if Everton decide to advance their interest.
There is a financial hurdle. Como are said to be "prepared to listen to offers in the region of £50-60 million for the 20-year-old", which places the deal firmly in premium territory. That valuation will shape Everton's thinking, particularly as other priorities remain in play.
From an Everton perspective, the appeal is obvious. Diao offers "pace, physicality and the ability to operate on either flank", and his versatility extends even further. "The fact that he has played as a centre-forward is another plus for Everton, given that is another position they are keen to strengthen in." In a single target, Everton would be addressing more than one need.
Diao's record at Como adds substance to the interest. Since joining from Real Betis in 2025, he has registered 10 goals and two ******* ists in 35 appearances. For a young attacker adapting to a new league, those are encouraging numbers, and they help explain why Everton have identified him as a possible solution.
