FC Barcelona's pursuit of Julian Alvarez has reached a crucial stage after club president Joan Laporta confirmed that the offer made for the Atletico Madrid striker would not remain valid indefinitely.
Shortly after beginning his latest presidential term, Laporta made Barcelona's position clear.
"We have made an offer, but this offer is not unlimited in time."
Later, while in New York supporting the Spanish national team during the final stages of the World Cup, he narrowed the timeframe even further.
"The deadline for the offer is between the last week of July and the first week of August," he added.

Medicare Advantage enrollees get one 12-month trial right to return to Original Medicare and buy a guaranteed-issue Medigap policy without medical underwriting.
The trial window closes 63 days after year one ends, and missing it can permanently expose beneficiaries to unlimited 20% outpatient coinsurance with no cap.
The MA Open Enrollment Period, which runs from January through March, lets you leave Advantage but does not guarantee Medigap access, leaving post-year-one switchers vulnerable to health underwriting.
Two retirees, same $1 million, same 4% rule, buy one finished with $1.4 million, the other hit $0 in 12 years. Our free reader guide explains the flaw that separated them, and the income-first method built to avoid it.
A 66-year-old retiree signs up for a zero-premium Medicare Advantage plan the month she turns 65. Fourteen months in, her orthopedist drops the network, her prior authorization for an MRI is denied twice, and she wants back on Original Medicare with a Medigap policy. She calls a broker. The broker asks when she first enrolled. Then he tells her the escape hatch closed 60 days ago.

July 23 (Reuters) - T-Mobile said on Thursday it expects third-quarter postpaid account additions to decline sequentially as the telecom operator upgrades its rate plans, sending its shares down nearly 7%.
The company is phasing out older wireless plans and migrating affected customers to newer options that offer features like unlimited premium data and device upgrades, but are more expensive.
That strategy is also expected to lead to a temporary increase in customer churn in the current quarter, the company said. T-Mobile has also been facing intense competition from AT&T and Verizon.
The company expects about 250,000 net postpaid accounts in the third quarter, below Visible Alpha-compiled ***** ysts' average estimate of about 304,000 additions. It added 277,000 postpaid accounts in the previous quarter, which was already a 13% decline from a year earlier.

July 22 (Reuters) - AT&T topped quarterly estimates for wireless subscriber additions on Wednesday as cheaper unlimited plans paired with bundled mobile-broadband offerings drew in value-conscious customers, sending its shares up 4%.
The gains build on AT&T's broader convergence strategy of selling multiple connectivity services to the same household to reduce churn and increase customer lifetime value as U.S. telecom providers chase the same finite pool of users.
The bundled offerings also helped the company post record broadband additions, with 367,000 new fiber internet users and 279,000 fixed wireless subscribers.
AT&T in March launched OneConnect, a single subscription that bundles unlimited wireless service with home internet under one monthly bill.

Broadcom (AVGO) has become one of the most important companies in the artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure boom, thanks to its growing role in custom silicon, networking chips, and semiconductor solutions used by some of the world's largest technology companies. While memory chipmakers have captured much of the spotlight this year, Broadcom has quietly strengthened its position behind the scenes by helping major customers design application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) chips tailored to their own AI workloads.
That position became even more important this week. Broadcom announced an expanded long-term partnership with Apple (AAPL) under which it will develop and supply custom ASIC chips through 2031. While Broadcom did not disclose the financial terms, Apple later revealed that it expects to spend more than $30 billion under the agreement.

Tech companies are famed for padding their six-figure jobs with flashy perks: lavish retreats, unlimited PTO, and offices outfitted with slides and sleep pods. One AI start-up, Rilla, is even helping foot the bill of its workers' biggest expense: housing.
The company splashes out $1.7 million annually in housing stipends. And it's part of a wider incentive designed for employees to make the most of their 72-hours workweeks in the New York City office.
"We're not trying to coddle people," CEO Sebastian Jimenez recently told Business Insider. "A lot of companies offer perks that end up distracting employees. We ask ourselves, 'Can this help someone get into the flow?'"
"That's why we pay for three meals a day. It's why we're building a gym with a sauna and cold plunge," he continued. "And it's why we offer employees an $18,000 annual housing stipend if they choose to live within about a 10-minute bike ride of the office."
Most metropolitan workers would love to cut their commute to just 10 minutes a day, but most apartments within a stone's throw of hubs like Wall Street and Midtown come with a hefty price tag.

Somehow, every game recap I write manages to be about an even more abhorrent game than the last. Tonight might take the cake for by far the worst game I have ever had the displeasure of watching. Just an unbelievably awful game start-to-finish. On the bright side, since coming to Minnesota, the Guardians seem to be at least losing a new type of game. Not just your average 1-run loss anymore, we've ascended to a new plane of suffering.
This game had everything!
Do you like lackluster starting pitching? Come on down!
Do you like walks? We've got a near unlimited supply at a discounted price!
Do you like using every single reliever in your bullpen but one? Stop on by!

The knockout stage has arrived, bringing with it the biggest opportunity yet for Fantasy World Cup managers to overhaul their squads. With unlimited transfers available ahead of the Round of 16, there's no reason to hold onto underperforming ***** ets or players facing difficult fixtures.
The focus should now be on loading up on players from the favorites to reach the quarterfinals while mixing in a handful of low-owned differentials capable of delivering a significant rank boost. With that in mind, here's our best World Cup Fantasy XI for the Round of 16, lined up in a 4-3-3 formation.
France look to have the standout defensive fixture of the Round of 16, making Mike Maignan one of the safest goalkeeper selections this week.
Les Bleus face Paraguay, and bookmakers have them as the strongest favorites to keep a clean sheet across the knockout fixtures. If you're not doubling up on the French defense, Maignan offers an excellent route into what is arguably the most reliable backline remaining in the tournament.
If you're looking for a differential with huge upside, Lucas Digne is one of the standout defensive picks. Owned by fewer than one percent of Fantasy managers, he provides a rare opportunity to invest in France's defense while also benefiting from the scouting bonus.

For the sixth time in her career, former Washington Huskies star Sis Bates has been selected to play in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League All-Star Cup (previously known as the AUSL Championship).
Considered one of the building blocks of the brand-new Portland Cascade franchise, the shortstop is one of two selections on the team, alongside former UCLA star Megan Grant, as she has put together a strong year on both sides of the ball.
At the plate, she's posted a .273 batting average and .775 OPS with 9 hits, including a pair of triples and a double, 10 runs scored, and 3 walks. In the field, the three-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year has recorded 60 putouts and 51 ****** ists with 9 double plays and 3 errors, good for a .974 fielding percentage.
Bates has helped lead the Cascade to an 8-5 record in the early portion of the season, which is good for second place in the newly expanded six-team AUSL behind only the Utah Talons, who are led by another former UW standout in outfielder Jadelyn Allchin.
The two-time First Team All-American finished her career under coach Heather Tarr with a .385 batting average and 145 runs batted in, to go along with her program record 320 hits and laundry list of accolades.

In choosing to go public with his ALS diagnosis, former NFL running back Chris Johnson chose not to focus on the link between the disease and football.
At one level, it didn't really need to be mentioned. The connection has been established. For example, ALS is one of the specific conditions (along with Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, early and moderate dementia, and certain cases of CTE diagnoses after death) that automatically qualified retired players (as of July 7, 2014) for no-questions-asked compensation from the NFL's unlimited concussion settlement fund. And, in 2021, a study of all "19,423 NFL athletes who debuted between 1960 and 2019 and played 1 or more professional game" resulted in a finding that the risks of developing ALS "were nearly 4 times as high as those of the general population."
At another level, it was more than a bit awkward that the segment on Good Morning America didn't mention the ties between ALS and football, either during or after the Johnson interview was televised.
It came close, a couple of times. Johnson's wife, Brittany, explained that she believed his initial symptoms (weakness in his right hand) may have been the result of a pinched nerve from playing football. And Michael Strahan's narration of the piece addressed the belief that Johnson has a case of "sporadic ALS," which happens with no family history of the illness. Given that, as Strahan said, 90 percent of all ALS cases are sporadic and basically random, the connection to football makes it not quite as random as it would be for someone who didn't play.
Via Sean Keeley of Awful Announcing, Jeff Pearlman teed off on the failure to mention the link between ALS and football. (Here's Pearlman's full video.)

Amazon Now has become the fastest-growing ecommerce business unit in Amazon India's history, with orders doubling every quarter since launch. Amazon said it will expand specialized fulfillment infrastructure to offer tens of thousands of products delivered in minutes or a few hours, over one million products within the same day, over four million the next day, and millions more with unlimited, free, and fast Prime Delivery.
Also on June 25, the European Commission informed Amazon and Microsoft (MSFT) of its preliminary view that they should be designated as gatekeepers under the Digital Markets Act for their cloud computing services, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. The Commission preliminarily found that AWS and Azure are important gateways between businesses and customers in the EU, despite not meeting the DMA's quantitative thresholds for designation. The Commission cited their turnover, operational capacity, investments, user bases, lock-in effects, switching costs, AI tools, partnerships, and durable positions in EU cloud computing. If the preliminary findings are confirmed, Amazon and Microsoft would have six months to ensure full compliance with the DMA's obligations.

The USMNT is already through to the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup as winners of Group D, giving Mauricio Pochettino unlimited options (and decisions to make) as the Yanks prepare to face Turkiye on Thursday.
WATCH — USA vs Turkiye, en Español
Chief among them is whether or not to play Christian Pulisic, who missed game no. 2 against Australia due to a calf injury he suffered during the first half against Paraguay. Pulisic was practically unplayable in those 45 minutes, perhaps one of his best performances in the Stars and Stripes given the World Cup stage. Pochettino has hinted that Pulisic could be available against Turkiye in order to keep sharp, but the same cannot be said for Antonee Robinson, Chris Richards, Folarin Balogun and Tyler Adams, all of whom picked up a yellow card in the first game and would miss the round of 32 should they pick up two in the group stage.
Turkiye have already been eliminated after a disappointing start that saw them lose 2-0 to Australia and 1-0 to Paraguay.
Kick off time: 10 pm ET Thursday (June 25)
Venue: SoFi Stadium — Los Angeles
TV Channel: Telemundo
Streaming: Stream live on Peacock, en Espanol

Original Medicare's uncapped 20% coinsurance can leave a retiree owing $40,000 on a $200,000 cancer treatment with no annual ceiling to stop it.
Medigap Plan G converts that unlimited liability into roughly $2,640 a year, capping all exposure after a single $283 deductible.
Choosing Medicare Advantage at 65 is effectively permanent. Once the six-month guaranteed-issue window closes, insurers can deny Medigap coverage based on pre-existing conditions.
A recent study identified one single habit that doubled Americans' retirement savings and moved retirement from dream, to reality. Read more here.
A 67-year-old retiree on Original Medicare gets a stage III colon cancer diagnosis in March. Surgery, chemotherapy, imaging, and specialist visits generate roughly $200,000 in Medicare-approved Part B charges over nine months. After the deductible, Medicare generally pays 80% of covered Part B costs and the beneficiary is responsible for the remaining 20%. Without supplemental coverage, that share could approach $40,000.

In recent weeks, we asked you which Brighton players you would choose to keep, loan and sell this summer transfer window and now BBC Radio Sussex have had their say.
Host of the Albion Unlimited podcast Johnny Cantor, floated numerous names for each category alongside former Brighton striker Warren Aspinall, but has ultimately settled on these three players.
"I am going to keep Olivier Boscagli," Cantor said. "I think he could be a really good player. I know he's spoken to me quite a few times about how frustrated he is about not playing regularly; he's played in the Champions League, been at a big club and come to Albion and he's not playing as much as he wants.
"So he may be thinking, and I'm not saying he is, that he's in the prime of his career at 28-years-old and thinking 'right I need to get out whether on loan or somewhere else' but I would keep him because I think he's going to be vital – particularly in Europe.
"In terms of loan, I'm going to go for Tommy Watson. We need to find a club where he's going to play regularly. I don't know where that is, it wasn't at Millwall, and I really feel like he needs to find somewhere where he's happy."

Aldon Smith, a former San Francisco 49ers star whose NFL career evaporated amid a bevy of off-field issues, died Saturday, the Niners announced. He was 36 years old.
The team's statement:
"We are devastated by the sudden and tragic passing of Aldon Smith. Aldon's undeniable talent and sheer dominance on the field were on display from the moment he joined our organization, having recorded one of the best rookie seasons the National Football League has seen. Beyond his excellence as a player, Aldon will be remembered for his infectious smile that lit up every room he walked into. Our entire organization sends its deepest condolences to the Smith family and all who knew and loved Aldon."
No cause of death was provided.
Smith displayed seemingly unlimited potential in his first two seasons with the Niners. The seventh overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft was immediately one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, posting 14 sacks in his rookie season to earn Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

The NCAA’s landmark House settlement agreement has its first major legal attack.
Two California football players have filed a class-action lawsuit against the NCAA, the power conferences and the College Sports Commission, claiming those entities created a new enforcement arm whose policies directly contradict state statutes and violate federal antitrust law by illegally price-fixing.
USC freshman linebacker Talanoa Ili and Stanford senior quarterback Charlie Mirer are the listed plaintiffs in the case, filed in the U.S. District Court’s Northern District of California on Tuesday. Three attorneys from the firm Berger Montague and one from the firm Freedman Normand Friedland are representing Ili, Mirer and those in the proposed classes, which include thousands of athletes at schools residing in more than a dozen states with statutes protecting their ability to earn an unlimited amount of NIL compensation.
The plaintiffs are asking for monetary damages as well as an injunction to suspend the NCAA and College Sports Commission’s enforcement of athlete NIL deals, or else plaintiffs “will continue to suffer suppression of their NIL compensation" within a price-fixing “scheme,” the suit says.
The 81-page complaint serves as the most significant outside legal challenge since the NCAA and power leagues agreed to settle three antitrust cases against a class of former and current athletes, most commonly referred to as House. The settlement, approved by a California judge last June, ushered in direct pay from schools to athletes, but only within a capped revenue-share system regulated by a new enforcement arm.

When Cindy Ball-Malone saw Lisa Fernandez — the “G.O.A.T. of softball” as Ball-Malone described her — reached out to her, she had to double-check her phone.
Fernandez, the general manager of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League’s Utah Talons, wanted to discuss the University of Central Florida head coach becoming the next coach of the Talons. It was an opportunity Ball-Malone couldn’t refuse, she said.
“I’m just beyond excited to be standing here in front of you guys,” Ball-Malone told reporters Monday at the Talons’ media day.
Just over two months after her hiring, Ball-Malone will lead the Talons in the team’s season- and home-opener at the University of Utah’s Dumke Family Softball Stadium on Tuesday in a role she never imagined holding.
“When you pick up the ball and you play the game, you think you’re doing it for fun, and then all of a sudden you get to go to school for it, and then now, you get to make a career out of it,” she said. “I feel definitely blessed every day to have that opportunity.”

Turning 55 can be a wake-up call for retirement savers. You're only seven years from being eligible for Social Security (albeit at a reduced rate) and you're 10 years away from Medicare enrollment. And while retirement might still seem far away, you don't have unlimited time to make up for missing savings.
If your IRA or 401(k) isn't where you want it to be by 55, you're not alone. Many people reach their mid-50s feeling that they're behind on retirement savings.
