Former child star Hayden Panettiere has died at 36. While the actor is perhaps best known for her roles in TV series like Heroes, where she played an indestructible cheerleader, and Nashville, where she portrayed a rising country star, to horror fans, she'll forever be known as one of the Scream franchise's most iconic final girls, Kirby Reed.
Scream 4 marked Panettiere's first appearance in the film franchise. Her character was a cool Woodsboro High School student who sported a pixie cut and could rattle off horror film trivia. Her passion for horror was central to the movie's final act, in which her character is caught by Ghostface and forced to play one of his twisted games. Ultimately, she is stabbed by one of the Ghostface killers and left for dead.
Kirby's fate was never revealed in that movie, and fans always hoped that she would return to the franchise in a sequel. In 2022, the long-anticipated Scream premiered as both a sequel and a reboot of the franchise, but Panettiere did not appear in the film. Her fate was revealed through an Easter egg in the movie, when a character is looking at a YouTube page and an interview with Kirby, a survivor of the Woodsboro stabbing, appears.
Hayden Panettiere and Emma Roberts in Scream 4.
"We wanted to answer the Kirby question in some way from the beginning," co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin told Nerdist in 2022. "We just didn't really know what that would be. There was a period during the pre-production where we thought we might be able to even get her in this movie. We had a zoom with her and she was lovely. And she was like, 'I love Kirby, I'd love to be in it.'"

Everyone can benefit from a refreshing boost mentally and physically from the rigors of sport – Rachel Rush showed why a "reboot" energized her game at the first Suburban League golf tournament as the gifted Hudson teen was the medalist.
Too much golf can be impactful and this is why the Hudson sophomore excelled at Akron's Good Park golf course to capture medalist honors and fuel an Explorer team **** le on Aug. 6.
One of the area's top sophomores, Rush fired a 77 to beat standout senior teammate Elena Varga for the top spot in the first league tourney.
"Rachel played a lot of golf over the summer and I think she was starting to wear down a little bit at the end – I was hoping the high school season would be a little bit of a refresher for her and it sure seems like it was," Hudson coach Bobby Bolin said.
Varga was right behind Rush with a 78 – solidifying Hudson's dangerous 1-2 threat.

Manchester United officials are reportedly torn between Sander Berge and Tyler Adams, who have emerged as two realistic options.
At the start of the summer, the club's supporters were anticipating the arrivals of prominent top-class profiles as the management plotted a midfield revamp.
Instead, INEOS have opted for cost-efficient moves, refusing to enter bidding wars. Therefore, their top targets, Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, ended up joining Man City and Spurs for £116 million and £85 million respectively.
After missing out on their primary targets, United bought Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £48 million and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35 million, before slamming the brakes on their midfield reboot.
United have been linked with prominent profiles like Aurelien Tchouameni and Manu Kone, but they haven't made noticeable progress on either track.

As I'm sure everyone is now aware, it has been widely reported that Bruno Guimaraes has made it known he is up for ***** nal's back door approach, with snivelling peabodies in the media spreading agent-led propaganda about how the player wants out of Newcastle United.
This will doubtless snowball while The Man himself convalesces from his bitter role in Brazil's disappointing World Cup exit, as Fabrizio Romano doubtless prepares his usual raft of 20-30 tweets a day about how Bruno hates Newcastle/only wants London.
This is brutal for a number of reasons.
The sales of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon could be (and largely were) viewed as great money for players that had failed to excel in the unacceptable preceding season. Maximum value to reboot the squad, for which hope flickered as a couple of promising young players looked set to sign, and in one case actually even did.
Bruno Guimaraes though, was essential to the plot. The heartbeat, the talisman, the one big name player we needed to retain. The man who escapes wrath for the underperformance of last season due to his being the only consistent performances and a huge raft of the damage being done during an absence that weakened the side exponentially.

After another consecutive failure for Germany at the World Cup over the past weeks, there is a clear agreement from fans and critics that a major change is needed at the DFB. While all the attention is currently surrounding the head coach role with Jürgen Klopp as the top candidate, there is another interesting candidate that could shake things up at the DFB.
As captured by iMiaSanMia, 2014 world champion Per Mertesacker is being considered by DFB. The former German defender was head of the **** nal academy for eight years before voluntarily leaving the club this summer. With his experience at one of the biggest academies in Europe, he could be the perfect solution for restructuring the youth development program within the DFB and developing a concept that rethinks how German prepares their top talent for success at the highest level.
“Everything Per Mertesacker says on TV is thoughtful and well-founded. He’s never insulting, yet he’s still critical. If you’ve spent eight years at **** nal, you must have something about you — and that’s exactly what we need right now. As a former player, he has vast international experience. He’s always shown how well he can work with people. And one thing is certain: he would never take the job for the money, but because he’s motivated by the challenge of building something and driving it forward with passion. Those are exactly the kind of people we need right now – people who have worked their way up through dedication and are willing to put in the hard work,” Uli Hoeneß told Bild.
Hoeneß makes some pretty good points and it isn’t hard to imagine the World Cup champions having success with the DFB. While Klopp is the clear choice for the manager role, Mertesacker could be another just as important piece of the next German reboot.

The FIFA World Cup tournament barreled into North America this year amid a tide of nativism, political polarization in the U.S. and the usual uncertainty over how well the quadrennial men’s soccer championship would play with American sports fans — especially as this year’s 39-day competition collided directly with the America 250 celebrations.
After 25 days, the answer is undeniable. The World Cup has delivered an audience and sponsorship windfall for Fox Sports and for Telemundo and Peacock, which have Spanish-language linear and streaming rights to the tournament in the U.S.

As they say, "there's a first time for everything," and we have one of those firsts with an announcement from EA Sports for the release of 'College Football 27,' the third installment of the rebooted franchise college football junkies love.
According to a social media post by the game, Ohio State superstar wide receiver Jeremiah Smith will be rated a 99, which is the highest possible score a player in the game can be rated. Moreover, it's the first time since the franchise found its way back on gaming consoles that a player has been rated that high at launch, meaning upon initial drop of the game.
Smith is widely known as the best player in college football (are you listening, Heisman and Biletnikoff voters) and has already put together some gaudy numbers in his first two seasons in the game. He is primed to break almost every receiving record Ohio State has on the books this season and should go down as one of the best to not only wear the Scarlet and Gray but to play receiver in the college game.
While Smith's rating is known, there have been other leaks. According to those, the top ten include Indiana offensive tackle Carter Smith (97 overall), Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore (97), Missouri offensive tackle Cayden Green (96), Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy (96), Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney (96), Georgia safety KJ Bolden (95), Oregon quarterback Dante Moore (95), Texas defensive end Colin Simmons (95) and Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin (94).
We'll have more on the game as further announcements are released by EA Sports, but in the meantime, the game is set to be released July 9 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Early access begins July 2 for MVP Bundle owners and July 6 for players who purchase the Deluxe Edition. Mark your calendars.

Brooks Nader brings lifeguard heat to Drama Club FOX's Reel. The model and actress appear in promo content for Fox's "Baywatch" reboot, with the caption, "Just iconic #Baywatch behavior," as the video puts her red uniform front and center.
Have a look at Brooks Nader in the quintessential "Baywatch" swimsuit:
The model's swimsuit is the hook. Nader wears the signature red one-piece with a scoop neckline, wide straps, high-cut legs, and a round lifeguard-style patch near the hip. The curve-hugging shape revives the franchise's famous beach-run image with a robe-layered twist.
She wears the swimsuit under an oversized gray robe-style cardigan, left open over her shoulders for a post-scene finish. Her long blonde hair falls in waves with face-framing layers. Bronzed skin, defined brows, smoky eyes, contoured cheeks, and a nude-pink lip complete the glam.
Nader plays Selene, captain of the Zuma Beach lifeguards. Fans reacted quickly. One wrote, "she's an icon she's a legend and she is the moment!" Another said, "Gorgeous." A third added, "ICONIC."

Drew McIntyre is not expected back in WWE anytime soon, and a new Hollywood commitment helps explain why. PWInsider's Mike Johnson reports that there is nothing on the table creatively for McIntyre in WWE at this time, and that online reports suggesting he was set for a return heading into SummerSlam were inaccurate. At the same time, Deadline has confirmed that McIntyre has joined the cast of The Last Druid, a historical action drama starring Russell Crowe that is currently filming in Spain.
The two developments together paint a clear picture of where McIntyre's focus is right now. Since returning from filming the Highlander reboot in Scotland, he has been circling several Hollywood projects, and The Last Druid represents the latest concrete result of that activity. His most recent WWE appearance came at WrestleMania 42, where he lost to Jacob Fatu in an Unsanctioned Match before stepping away from television entirely.
The Last Druid sees Crowe return to the world of ancient warfare, set a quarter century after Gladiator. The story follows a Roman Emperor who discovers a secluded Druid stronghold in the mountains of Caledonia, forcing a peaceful Celtic elder — played by Crowe — to take up arms to protect his family and people from annihilation. McIntyre's specific role has not been announced. The film's cast also includes Stacy Clausen, star of the Sundance breakout Leviticus, Spanish veteran Pablo Derqui, Crowe's son Tennyson Crowe in his second acting role, Rose Leslie, Andreas Pietschmann, and Daniel Zovatto. William Eubank is directing from a script he co-wrote with Phil Gawthorne and Carlyle Eubank.
The project marks McIntyre's second collaboration with Crowe, following their work together on Amazon MGM's Highlander reboot. In that film, directed by Chad Stahelski, McIntyre plays Angus MacLeod, the brother of Henry Cavill's Connor MacLeod. That project also reunited him with his The Killer's Game co-star Dave Bautista. The Last Druid now extends his relationship with Crowe into a second production.

Late last week, Manchester City saw their opening bid for Elliot Anderson rejected by Nottingham Forest. David Ornstein broke the news for The Athletic that City’s opening offer for the England international didn’t meet Nottingham Forest’s expectations. Despite this initial setback, City have always been confident that they’ll sign their main transfer target this summer. Now it has been reported that City are readying a second offer for Elliot Anderson. Also, City remain confident of reaching a deal with Nottingham Forest to land the midfielder they desperately need.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City are preparing to put in another official bid to Nottingham Forest to sign Elliot Anderson. Furthermore, Romano reports that City are confident of securing a deal to sign the England international. Lastly, Romano reports that while Manchester United retain an interest in signing Elliot Anderson, City are ahead in the race to land one of the Premier League’s elite midfielders.
One of the biggest priorities for Manchester City during the upcoming transfer window is to strengthen their midfield. City’s midfield needs a reboot to bolster a critical area of the pitch. A player like Elliot Anderson, who would add tenacity, technical quality, and an elite ability to win duels, would be a huge addition to the City engine room. What is apparent is that Manchester City are wasting no time in trying to conclude a deal with Nottingham Forest to land Anderson.
The fact that City are intending to come back to Nottingham Forest with a second offer for Elliot Anderson indicates that they are extremely confident of landing the England international. Fabrizio Romano has reported this, and Manchester City’s actions back up this notion. It now remains to be seen if Manchester City’s second offer for Elliot Anderson is enough to satisfy Nottingham Forest’s demands. What could be in City’s favor is that there is nothing to be gained by Forest dragging their feet with the Anderson deal. Nottingham Forest have their own business to do this summer, and if they can conclude a deal that sees Elliot Anderson arrive at the Etihad, it is in their best interests.
For that to occur, Manchester City have to put in an offer that Nottingham Forest are willing to accept for Anderson. It is now a waiting game to find out if this occurs. Fabrizio Romano’s new report does give hope that it could come sooner rather than later. Hopefully, it does from a City point of view so they can move on to other summer transfer business.

The UFL officially formed in 2023 when the XFL and USFL merged rather than continuing to compete against one another. The decision made sense for both leagues. The XFL had already experienced two failed runs in 2001 and 2020 before launching another reboot in 2023. Meanwhile, the USFL operated from 1983 to 1986 before returning from 2022 to 2023. Ultimately, the two leagues joined forces to create the UFL.
Now, the UFL is set to complete its third season since the merger and its fifth overall season dating back to the USFL’s revival. Against the odds, the league has managed to stay afloat. On Sunday, the UFL delivered a thrilling playoff doubleheader that showcased how far the product has come. The question now becomes: Is the UFL here to stay?

Both semifinal matchups produced surprising results. Each game came down to the final moments and remained a one-possession contest throughout. Fans witnessed explosive plays, bold coaching decisions, and an overall brand of football that felt increasingly polished and professional.
