The Lobos will be howling soon.
UNM's men's and women's basketball teams will host a free-to-the-public Lobo Howl event in the Pit on Friday, Oct. 9.
The event has autograph signing opportunities, skills competitions and 3-point contests with both teams and the men's team also has a slam dunk contest, won last season by then true freshman and now returning sophomore point guard Uriah Tenette.
The 3-point contest last year was won by Kaia Foster, who is back for the women's Lobos roster, but has a broken left foot and will miss the beginning of the coming 2026-27 season. The Lobo men's player she beat in last year's final is also back: 2026 Mountain West Freshman of the Year Jake Hall.
More information on the Howl will be released by UNM in the coming weeks.

Hertha BSC recorded a comeback victory away at Eintracht Braunschweig in an eight-goal thriller in 2. Bundesliga. Stefan Leitl's side have won each of their first four games of the new season, despite low expectations at the start since they haven't replaced the players departing this summer.
This game did look like a reflection of that reality for the large part of the first-half. Yann Sturm put the hosts ahead inside the first ten minutes before Niklas Kolbe's howler helped Kevin Ehlers to double their advantage.
Braunschweig also had two clear-cut opportunities through Sturm and Aaron Opoku, but they found themselves level at the break after conceding two late goals. Icelandic striker Jón Dagur Thorsteinsson scored on his full debut before Josip Brekalo's memorable strike in the final kick of the first-half.
The Croat attacker capitalized on Braunschweig's poor corner-kick that led to a counter-attacking move as he beat former FC Bayern goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann with a brilliant curler. Hertha also started the second-half brightly as Ehlers canceled his goal by beating his own shot-stopper from Thorsteinsson's delivery.
Kolbe also had his moments in both boxes as the center-back won a penalty-kick twenty minutes before time, which was calmly converted by Brekalo. Hertha's new captain started the season in top form as he hopes to return to Bundesliga with the capital city club.

Dallas travelled to face a Minnesota team that had won eight straight games to close the regular season, but Tom Landry's veteran squad looked to deliver one of its most complete defensive performances.
The Vikings entered the postseason with plenty of momentum, led by quarterback Gary Cuozzo, a physical rushing attack and the famous Purple People Eaters defense. Minnesota looked like a legitimate championship contender and Dallas had spent years falling just short in the playoffs, but arrived determined to prove it could finally finish the job.
Dallas's first opportunity came when Larry Cole forced Dave Osborn to fumble, which Jethro Pugh recovered at the Minnesota 36-yard line. Roger Staubach then completed an 18-yard pass to Bob Hayes, but Page's third-down sack halted the drive. Mike Clark kicked a 26-yard field goal, but Fred ******* responded with a 27-yard field goal to tie the score at 3-3.
Chuck Howley intercepted Bob Lee, returning the ball 26 yards into Minnesota territory and giving the Cowboys the lead. Julie and her daughter, author, editor, and producer Emma Walton Hamilton, have co-authored 35 books together, but this children's book is especially meaningful because it was inspired by a real, four-legged family member: a Miniature Poodle named Shy. The singing dog had been famous in their family long before her 'tail' made it onto the page, and the mother-daughter duo hopes that her stories—both real and fictional—inspire readers to celebrate their talents and strengths, whatever they may be.
Let's rewind: In the 1950s, when Julie was busy rehearsing for her starring role as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, a small Poodle puppy joined the family. Originally, the pup's registered name was "Whisper of Whey," but Andrews' aunt suggested the name 'Shy' to pay homage to both her sweet temperament and her original moniker.
When it came to musical rehearsals, though, the dog wasn't shy at all. Julie revealed, "Each time I sat down at the piano and began to do my scales, Shy would lift her little nose to the air and start to howl, as if she were singing along. I wondered at first if it was a comment on the quality of my singing!"
As days went by, however, Andrews learned she could guide her dog's howling up and down the scale. It wasn't long until the Miniature Poodle became desperate to sing along, which, as endearing as it was, made rehearsing for performances much more complicated than it needed to be.

The Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates are in a rain delay at Great American Ball Park.
The Aug. 1 game got underway on-schedule at 6:40 p.m. but entered a weather delay at 8:20 p.m. Prior to that, the Reds and Pirates played a water-logged affair that saw the teams persist through lightning, a tornado warning and audible tornado warnings howling in nearby Northern Kentucky.
The Pirates led 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning when the game was stopped by the umpiring crew.
An estimated time for when play will resume wasn't announced. Fans inside Great American Ball Park were advised of approaching inclement weather.

(NewsNation) — Puerto Rico police say they have identified a person of interest in the execution-style killing of an Ohio man who was fatally shot during a solo camping trip earlier this month, after he had texted friends about a mysterious "howler" outside his tent in the nights before his death.
Tyler Wilkin, 35, of Wilmington, Ohio, was found shot once in the head in the mangroves near Playa La Selva in Luquillo on July 10.
His body was discovered by a beachgoer during a morning walk just after 6 a.m., some distance from the campsite where his tent and belongings remained set up.

Police Superintendent Joseph González told the newspaper El Nuevo Día on Thursday that investigators have identified a person of interest but declined to release further details, saying he did not want to interfere with the investigation.

Indiana Fever All-Star Caitlin Clark and her enablers must take the rest of us for idiots.
The fouls they claim occurred? The “contusion” she says she suffered? The technicals that aren’t deserved? Clark doesn’t suddenly become invisible when she’s involved in a physical play, so we can see what actually happened.
Which is that Clark is flopping. And her histrionics while doing so are putting other people in danger.
Now, before you start howling and going on about the eyeballs Clark has brought to the WNBA and women’s basketball, I am not a Clark hater. She can be an electrifying player — her player of the week honor is richly deserved after she went off for a combined 75 points in her last three games — and she’s been the gateway drug to women’s sports fandom for millions of people.
That, however, does not entitle her to a free pass.

SEC media days are usually for head coaches, quarterbacks and star players to have the floor to discuss a wide variety of topics. It's not often that a kicker is invited to the proceedings, but Auburn's Alex McPherson was present for the July 21 edition of SEC media day.
McPherson had some interesting questions and answers during his session, including a query about his favorite kick to date for the Tigers.
"I would say my favorite, I think the best kick I've had in my career was the 53-yarder against A&M in 2023. It was into the wind, which not a lot of people know, but that wind was howling. They called a timeout," McPherson said. "It was still blowing into my face but not as much, and I hit it really well. And to hit a 53 into the wind, that was pretty exciting for me just to give the team a little momentum going into halftime."
McPherson's brother is Cincinnati Bengals kicker Evan McPherson, who kicked for Florida during his collegiate career. The younger kicker was asked about Auburn's game against Florida this season, and who his brother might support.
"I think it's going to be fun. I think — I mean, I don't know who my brother's going to cheer for, but I would say he's going to be cheering for Auburn. I would hope so," Alex McPherson said.

The Virginia Tech Hokies could have one of the ACC’s best quarterbacks in 2026. Ethan Grunkemeyer will be Virginia Tech’s starting quarterback in 2026. He transferred to Virginia Tech this offseason, following James Franklin, Ty Howle and Danny O’Brien from Penn State.
After redshirting his first season, Grunkemeyer was forced into the lineup after Drew Allar’s injury last season and played well. After Penn State started the season 3-6, Grunkemeyer rallied the Nittany Lions to bowl eligibility after Franklin’s firing.

BP said Tuesday that deputy CEO and trading chief Carol Howle will retire later this year, with CEO Meg O'Neill announcing she will not appoint a replacement for the role.
Having spent 26 years at BP, Howle had been elevated to the deputy CEO position in April, a role that came after she stepped in as interim chief executive when Murray Auchincloss left the company. O'Neill's arrival in April prompted an agreement for Howle to remain through the handover period, during which she took responsibility for a portfolio review and the development of long-term strategy before ultimately departing. She will leave in the third quarter, the company said.
"We have significant actions underway to streamline the organizational model and we have a focused leadership team in place," O'Neill said in a statement.
Taking over Howle's trading responsibilities will be Sam Skerry, who moves into the role of head of supply, trading and shipping on Aug. 1 after running BP's M&A operations since 2022. Skerry previously worked across BP's trading business before moving to the M&A role, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Separately, Sonya Adams will move from her chief of staff post, which she has held since 2024, into oversight of people and culture; her predecessor in that function, Kerry Dryburgh, is departing BP after a 16-year tenure. Both Adams and Skerry's appointments take effect Aug. 1.
