A financing mechanism that gained traction among private equity firms in recent years has cooled off in 2026. Fading optimism about the exit market could, however, spark a turnaround in the final months of the year.
Dividend recapitalizations, in which companies borrow money to pay dividends to shareholders, are down roughly 40% year-over-year, according to data from PitchBook-LCD.
Recaps financed through the US broadly syndicated loan market, by some distance the largest capital source for these loans, totaled $28.69 billion in the year through Sept. 2, down 39% from $47.4 billion over the same period in 2025.
There were $72.2 billion of dividend recaps in full-year 2025—the second-highest annual volume recorded.
The average size of a dividend recap in 2026 also compressed, to $541 million from $668 million a year earlier.

The last big practice of BYU football's fall camp last Tuesday wound down like a fading echo.
A colleague of mine moved over and said, "Did you see Brian Santiago and Kalani Sitake giving one another a hug?"
That was positive news after several weeks of sensitive drama between BYU's head coach Sitake and athletic director Santiago.
A minute or two later, Santiago and I met off the sidelines, and he commented that with all the negativity swirling around, he was excited for so many positive developments going on with all the school's programs, that these were "exciting times" and that a positive vibe hung in the air.
I then broke away as my interviews with players were arranged and called for my turn. The players I spoke to were excited for the season. Very excited. And positive.

Soybeans are fading lower so far on Monday morning, contracts down 4 to 6 ½ cents. Futures pushed higher late on Friday, with contracts up 1 to 4 ¼ cents at the close. The veteran infielder infused a badly-needed energy and leadership with the Mets fading in the standings. By the end of the campaign, with his Latin pop hit "OMG" serving as the team's soundtrack, the Mets fired their way into the National League Championship Series.
Now, two years later, Iglesias is bringing that passion and energy into a far different setting than the baseball diamond, just down the road on Broadway.
The 36-year-old will become the first Major League Baseball player to perform on Broadway when he takes the role of Narrator in "Buena Visa Social Club" for a six-week stint starting on Aug. 27 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

Qiagen (NYSE:QGEN) walked into its second quarter of 2026 bracing investors for a roughly 2% sales decline. For a diagnostics and life sciences supplier still working through the loss of discontinued product lines, beating a cautious bar is one thing. What happens next, as management leans on a stack of new launches to carry the back half of the year, is the more interesting question.
The company's so-called growth pillars, the businesses management is counting on to outpace the broader market, expanded 5% at constant exchange rates in the quarter. Sample Technologies led with 9% CER growth, driven by automated consumables and higher instrument sales. QIAcuity, the digital PCR platform, posted double-digit consumables growth even as weaker OEM demand offset some of that strength. In what's been a Cinderella summer for the Red Sox, the clock on the wall suddenly appears to read four minutes after midnight. No, the season is not over, but the magic carpet ride that transported this team through a wormhole and into the thick of the playoff race is almost certainly fading into the fabric of history. Now they have to do something with the opportunity and make July matter.

With the 2026 World Cup slowly fading into memory, the new club season is about to begin in a few weeks. Bayern Munich will face Borussia Dortmund on the 23rd of August with most of the squad fit and ready, with a few key notable exceptions.
With England and France both making the semi-finals, certain key players were given an extended vacation by Vincent Kompany. Thus, while most of the squad returned to training a few weeks ago, Harry Kane, Dayot Upamecano, and Michael Olise will only report to the team's performance center for fitness tests near the end of this week (Kicker via iMiaSanMia).
That means the trio will lag behind the rest of the squad in terms of fitness, not joining team training until Supercup week. So, against Borussia Dortmund, Vincent Kompany might have to manage without his three key players — or at least not have them at full capacity. Who he chooses as replacements could determine the future pecking order on the depth chart this coming season.

Over the last few years, the concept of winning the Triple Crown has been fading among horse racing's stakeholders.
On Monday, Churchill Downs Inc. and the New York Racing ****** ociation might have delivered its death blow.
In announcing a joint partnership for a six-race series beginning in 2027 with a $5 million bonus attached to the end of it, one entity was notably missing: The Preakness.
The six races will cover the Kentucky Derby on May 2; the Belmont Stakes on June 5; back to Churchill for the Matt Winn stakes in early July; the Jim Dandy and Travers Stakes at Saratoga in late July/August; and then a newly created race to finish the series at Churchill in September.
As for the Preakness, the second jewel of the Triple Crown? On Monday, Churchill Downs Inc. and the New York Racing ****** ociation might have delivered its death blow.
In announcing a joint partnership for a six-race series beginning in 2027 with a $5 million bonus attached to the end of it, one entity was notably missing: The Preakness.
The six races will cover the Kentucky Derby on May 2; the Belmont Stakes on June 5; back to Churchill for the Matt Winn stakes in early July; the Jim Dandy and Travers Stakes at Saratoga in late July/August; and then a newly created race to finish the series at Churchill in September.

The New York Yankees were only seen as a fringe contender for ace pitcher Tarik Skubal before his deal to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but the Bronx Bombers could be losing out on a much more attainable target as well.
Skubal was dealt to the Dodgers in one of the biggest MLB trades in years, the first time since 2023 that a reigning Cy Young winner was dealt during the season. While the Yankees appeared to be fading in the Skubal sweepstakes, the team was seen as potential frontrunners for closer Mason Miller — before the tides turned on him as well.
The San Diego Padres were seen as reluctant sellers for their closer, who had just joined them on a major trade last season. Any lingering hopes the Yankees may have harbored to land Miller seemed to fade on Saturday, however.
As MLB.com reporter Cody Stavenhagen noted, the Padres made a seemingly decisive call on Miller's future.
"Another sign Mason Miller almost certainly isn't going anywhere: Two days before the trade deadline, Padres manager Craig Stammen has summoned his star closer for a five-out save attempt against the Giants," Stavenhagen noted. "Miller last went more than three outs on June 23, when he recorded a two-inning save versus the Braves."

FC Barcelona have unveiled their away kit for the 2026/27 season, developed together with Nike and the Kobe brand. The new shirt represents the second chapter of a growing collaboration that highlights a shared competitive mindset.
The shirt and the entire collection combine a black base with a gradient fading into purple at the bottom, along with gold details and graphic elements linked to Kobe Stealth, the identity of the Kobe Bryant brand.

Barça’s kit was developed by Nike with Kobe Bryant’s branding and features black as the predominant color, fading into purple.
On the inside, there is a quote from Kobe.
Arsenal, meanwhile, unveiled the shirt created by adidas, inspired by the iconic 1991 bruised banana shirt, but now with blue instead of yellow.
The crest and sponsors appear in yellow. There are also red details on the collar and sleeves.

With 58.9 seconds remaining on the clock, the New York Liberty found themselves down eight points to the Chicago Sky on Wednesday night. The game was all but over, with Chicago seemingly snapping New York's two-game winning streak.
But the Liberty had Sabrina Ionescu on their side.
The former Oregon Duck tossed in an impressive, fading three-pointer from the right corner to bring the Liberty to within five with 55 seconds remaining. After New York got a defensive stop, she nailed a top-of-the-key, off balance triple with under 30 seconds left. Two-point game.
The Sky then went 1-of-2 on free throws, bringing their lead to three points. With Chicago's defense shielding Ionescu away from the three-point line, she took the ball right to the rim and drew a foul as she rose up for a layup. And one, with the old fashioned three-point play completed as she swished the free throw, tying the game with 15 tick left.
The Sky then missed a layup and Ionescu's teammate, Jonquel Jones, was fouled and knocked in a free throw to win the game.
