Edson Barboza has called it a career.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) legend suffered his second consecutive stoppage loss last night (Sat., Aug. 15, 2026), falling to Argentine prospect Esteban Ribovics to open the UFC 330 main card inside Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (watch highlights).
Following the loss, an emotional Barboza officially announced his retirement, placing his UFC gloves in the center of the Octagon with his family surrounding him.
Barboza later spoke backstage with Megan Olivi about his decision to finally walk away from mixed martial arts.
"I've had a big battle inside of me for a long, long time. Well, not long, long—it was my fight with [Lerone] Murphy. I was like, 'I don't feel the same,'" Barboza said. "Plus, I'm a very competitive guy. I hate to lose. I have a hard time when I lose."

PHILADELPHIA – Edson Barboza is calling it a career.
One of the most violent strikers in lightweight history, Barboza (24-15 MMA, 18-15 UFC) lost his fourth straight fight Saturday when he was finished by Esteban Ribovics with strikes at 1:32 of Round 2. The lightweight bout took place on the UFC 330 prelims at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Ribovics (16-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) appeared to be the quicker and crisper fighter from the opening bell. Barboza showed vintage toughness, but as the fight wore on, he wore down. At the end of Round 1, Barboza stumbled and was cracked by Ribovics. The stumble was likely due to a large gash that had formed on his right shin.
In Round 2, Ribovics really took over. He tagged Barboza over and over again. Barboza wore damage on his face as he absorbed the blows and eventually referee Herb Dean stopped the fight standing.
After the bout, an emotional Barboza was given his time on the microphone to a standing ovation. He wept as he gave his final in-cage interview and laid his gloves down in the cage.

Edson Barboza didn't get the sendoff he wanted but he battled to the very end as the legendary Brazilian announced his retirement on Saturday after falling to Esteban Ribovics in the opening bout on the main card at UFC 330.
The fight ended after Ribovics just unloaded a barrage of strikes that trapped Barboza against the cage and before any more punishment was dished out, the referee stopped the fight with the end coming at 1:32 in the second round.
Afterwards, Ribovics paid homage to Barboza as one of his heroes in the sport.
"He's my idol when I started training," Ribovics said about Barboza. "He had an amazing and big career. It's an honor for me to fight with me. It's bitter … when you fight in this sport, you know one day it's going to happen.
"I want to fight with everybody close to the top 15. I know my last fight was not my best fight but I want another chance."

UFC Vegas 120 has come and gone. While it wasn't a stacked card from top to bottom, it produced one of the year's most impressive performances.
Quillan Salkilld came into Saturday night as one of the brighter prospects at 155 and in the UFC in general. After a dominant win over the experienced Mateusz Gamrot, expectations are soaring for how good the Australian fighter can be.
MORE: UFC makes massive September fight announcements
Salkilld secured the victory via first-round submission. This was one-way traffic for as long as it lasted. Salkilld caught Gamrot on the feet early with a left hook and then dominated on the ground before finding Gamrot's neck for the choke.
This was a big jump in competition. Before Saturday night, Salkilld's biggest win was against an aging Beneil Dariush, who is 1-4 in his last five fights and 37 years old. Gamrot isn't a spring chicken by any means at 35, but he was at least coming off a win against a tough Esteban Ribovics.

This is the live blog for Mateusz Gamrot vs. Quillan Salkilld, the lightweight main event for Saturday's UFC Vegas 120 fight card at the newly renovated Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
Gamrot enters the headliner after flip-flopping wins and losses over his past five bouts. In his most recent outing, the former KSW champion submitted Esteban Ribovics with an arm-triangle choke in the second round at UFC 327 in April. This will be Gamrot's third UFC headliner, going 1-1 in octagon main events with a decision win over Arman Tsarukyan, and suffering a first-round stoppage loss to Charles Oliveira this past October at UFC Rio.
Salkilld gets his first UFC main event spot after winning his first five bouts inside the octagon. The 26-year-old has stopped four of his five opponents and earning four bonuses — including his first-round TKO victory against Beneil Dariush at UFC Perth in May.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is live TODAY (Sat., Aug. 8, 2026) with UFC Vegas 120, streaming live online via Paramount+. The event goes down at the familiar META APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. Our main event tonight is Mateusz Gamrot vs. Quillan Salkilld.
We are back at UFC's new and improve APEX venue for the first time since April (latest renovation details here). And we've got a card that doesn't look too great on paper. However, many thought that about UFC Belgrade … and look what happened there. Tonight's ho-hum card, on paper, is topped by a pivotal 155-pound showdown between top-ranked contenders in Gamrot (No. 8) versus Salkilld (No. 12).
Gamrot has been inconsistent since switching KSW for UFC and he's coming off a decent win over Esteban Ribovics, which followed a very lopsided loss to Charles Oliveira (re-live that here). His inconsistency has left him on the outside looking in in regard to UFC's Lightweight ******* le picture.
Salkilld burst onto the scene in 2024 and has looked sensational with his quick knockouts and dominant wrestling. Last time out he put away Beneil Dariush in quick fashion, showing the mixed martial arts (MMA) world that he means business. A win over Gamrot will catapult him up the rankings and set up some fights with the real elites of the division.
The co-main event is Diego Ferreira vs. Billy Quarantillo. That's at Lightweight, too, but these guys are nowhere near the rankings. They have a combined 16-12 record in UFC and both are coming off knockout losses. Rounding out the main card are Darren Elkins vs. Yadier del Valle, Amanda Lemos vs. Alexia Thainara and Ty Miller vs. Billy Ray Goff.

LAS VEGAS – Mateusz Gamrot claims he's bringing "crazy conditioning" into Saturday's UFC Fight Night 284 main event, and it will be up to Quillan Salkilld to find an answer.
Gamrot (26-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) will put his ranking on the line against surging contender Salkilld (12-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) in a five-round lightweight bout at Meta APEX (Paramount+), and it's a familiar situation for the Polish fighter.
The past two wins for Gamrot have come against rising names in Esteban Ribovics and Ludovit Klein. He derailed them, and he's eager to do the same against Salkilld.
"I feel like world champ, brother," Salkilld told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday's UFC Fight Night 284 media day. "I have nice number in the ranking and everyone wants to take my number. I understand this position. OK. I invite you to cage. Let's fight. I'm happy to fight against Quillan because his style is perfect for me."
Gamrot said he is giving the Aussie his full focus and holds complete respect for the danger that will stand across from him in the octagon. And he especially welcomes Salkilld to engage in his world.

Rennes qualified for European football last season, which was a big improvement on the 10th and 12th-place finishes in the two seasons prior. How would you summarise last season and how it went for the club?
Those two seasons you mention were very bad, but the previous six were very good and Rennes were in Europe every time.
The new sporting director Loïc Désiré did a very good job last summer and had very good ideas, like bringing in Esteban Lepaul, who finished as Ligue 1's top goalscorer.
But, last season, there were a few phases; sometimes they were very good, then very bad. It was complicated in the beginning with the coach Habib Beye because some of the players in the squad really did not like him.
Some big names like Brice Samba and Seko Fofana had problems with Beye personally. He struggled, but he had his good moments, too.

Back in July 2018, Ocon was riding a wave of momentum. In his second full F1 campaign, the Mercedes protege was narrowly leading seasoned Force India team-mate Sergio Perez in the drivers' standings, and had just outqualified him seven times in a row – but that didn't prevent him from ending up on the sidelines.
"It was difficult," Ocon commented when asked about his growth as a driver that year in Autosport's latest You Ask The Questions interview.

The 2026 Belgian Grand Prix saw Haas record its fourth consecutive race without scoring a single Formula 1 point, following a start to the season that had shown some promise. However, it has been clear for several races now that the American team has been outdeveloped by most of its rivals, starting with Racing Bulls and Audi, which are now battling it out with Alpine for points.
As such, hopes of a strong showing were not particularly high ahead of the Spa race, especially for Esteban Ocon, who has been plagued by performance issues with his VF-26. But, the fact that the two drivers made contact on the first lap – which resulted in the Frenchman running off the track and both suffering punctures – did not help matters.
Historically, incidents involving Haas drivers are nothing new, but for team boss Ayao Komatsu, it is essential to draw a clear line in the sand straight away – despite the particular circumstances of last week’s incident.
"We just have to make sure it doesn't happen again", he told the media, including Motorsport.com, on Thursday in Budapest. "As always, even on a Sunday after the race, I just wanted to hear points of view from both sides, and then I put my points of view, and then we spoke about it, and then days after as well, so it's all fine."
When asked for his own view, the ***** anese team principal sidestepped the question: "I don't think I need to share that here. My interest is of course, whatever the reason, it just cannot happen again. Full stop. So, we just got to have a clear rule of engagement."

Former Haas Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner believes Esteban Ocon is likely in his final year with the American outfit, predicting a Ferrari junior will be drafted in to replace the Frenchman in 2027.
Steiner offered a blunt ****** sment of Ocon's current campaign at Haas during an appearance on The Red Flags Podcast ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The 29-year-old has been consistently outperformed by his team-mate Oliver Bearman, who is in his second season in the championship, sparking speculation about Ocon's future with Haas.
"I think Ollie is doing a very good job, and Esteban is just like, that’s the max we can do," Steiner said. "The difference is so big. I think it’s the biggest difference between team-mates now in the championship. Especially in qualifying.
"If you also take the time gap between the two, it's always huge. So I don’t think he has got a future there. I think that’s his last year there."
With Ocon's future under scrutiny, attention has inevitably turned to who might fill the potentially vacant seat. Several candidates have been floated, including McLaren reserve driver Leonardo Fornaroli and Formula 2 driver Rafael Camara, as well as Yuki Tsunoda.

Fenerbahce have signed English forward Mason Greenwood from Marseille on a four-year contract, with former club Manchester United set to receive a percentage of the fee.
The Turkish club state the transfer fee is 39m euros (£33.27m) but did previously advise it would be a total fee of 45m euros (£38.36m).
Greenwood finished joint-second behind Rennes' Esteban Lepaul in the 2025-26 Ligue 1 golden boot standings with 16.
The 24-year-old, who scored 48 goals in 81 appearances in all competition for Marseille, joined the French side from boyhood club Manchester United in a £26.6m deal in July 2024.
At the time, United said they had negotiated a "sizeable sell-on fee", which is thought to be around 40%, for the academy product.

The French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is one of the players with his future at Real Madrid highly uncertain. He has not been able to meet the expectations that the Merengue club had put on him when they signed him as a highly promising youngster from Rennes, and the club believes his growth has stunted in the last few years.
In fact, he was directly at fault as Los Blancos saw their UEFA Champions League hopes end last season. The Frenchman's haggling with the ball for a couple of seconds after a whistle caused the referee to shown him a second yellow card in the quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich, which made it impossible for Real Madrid to compete in a highly demanding game.
As a result, he has been put on the market by the Madrid club, but the new coach Jose Mourinho would make a final decision about him. Meanwhile, the player looks committed to impress the new coach and continue at the Merengue club.
As SPORT has reported, citing the journalist Alvaro Esteban, a clear indication of this was his presence at Valdebebas on Friday, the same day as Mourinho visited the club facilities in the first day of his second stint as the Los Blancos' manager. Thus, the Frenchman returned to train at the club a few days before the team is set to begin its preseason training, i.e., on Monday, 13th July.
The French midfielder also enjoys quite a lot of demand in the market. Big clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool have all been closely watching him lately.
