The Los Angeles Rams were blown out by the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 27-7, losing in the NFL's first-ever game in Melbourne, Australia. Here are five observations from the embarrassing defeat.
One has to hope that the reason why the Rams played as awfully as they did was the travel. I do not share that hope. Sean McVay and Chris Shula got outclassed by Kyle Shanahan and Raheem Morris. Shanahan relied on his usual tactics of targeting the Rams' underbelly with the pass, while softening up their interior with the run. After enough times, Shanahan pulled the defense in to take the top off.
Morris knows McVay like the back of his championship hand. It was the second straight year that Morris outmaneuvered every attack McVay threw at him. It's not surprising that Morris is behind the Rams' two ugliest losses in recent memory.
This is a third straight year that Shanahan has run the same thing against Shula and succeeded. When both sides are at full strength, the Rams lose, and relying on a battle of attrition to beat the 49ers over the course of the season isn't exactly an awful move, but it's one that reeks of defeatism. The Rams were defeated decisively. Aaron Donald isn't fixing this.

For Cadillac's Perez, it was straight into the pits at the start of formation lap in F1 Dutch GP sprint race at Circuit Zandvoort. The Mexican couldn't start the race as a result and was stationed in the pits for couple of laps, before he ventured out on track for a test session.
He saw the chequered flag but was three laps down on the leaders, as Mercedes' George Russell picked up the F1 Dutch GP sprint win over Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and McLaren's Lando Norris. The Mexican was classified 21st. But what happened to Perez ahead of the formation lap?

On August 13, Fermi Inc. (NASDAQ:FRMI) held its second-quarter earnings call and delivered exactly the kind of update a young power developer needs: proof that its plans are turning into contracts. Chairman Marius Haas told investors the company had hit all five commitments from a 90-day plan he laid out three months earlier, topped by a binding customer agreement with AI infrastructure company TensorWave. For a business that still has no meaningful revenue and years of construction ahead of it, a signed customer paired with visible progress on the ground is exactly what shareholders wanted to see.
The headline item is the TensorWave agreement itself: up to 650 megawatts of power if every expansion option is exercised, split across three phases. The initial phase is a 15-year commitment for 222 megawatts of gross power delivered through a turnkey data center solution, worth about $6.5 billion in revenue over that term. Chief Commercial Officer Anna Bofa described the deal as more than one customer's order, noting that the $6.5 billion figure is tied strictly to this Phase 1 commitment, while the campus holds a total expansion potential of up to 650 megawatts. This positions TensorWave as a gateway to hyperscalers and chipmakers that could add more workloads to the campus later on.

Dean Thompson has a new home for the 2027 NASCAR season. Last weekend, Haas Factory Team announced that Thompson will join the organization full-time for the 2027 NASCAR O'Reilly Series season. The Sam Hunt Racing driver will be one of three full-time competitors, with the organization expanding to a third car.

Rumors have continued to swirl around the future of Haas Factory Team's NASCAR Cup operation as charter values climb and the organization settles into life as a single-car team.
On Saturday at Iowa Speedway, Haas chief operating officer Joe Custer made one thing abundantly clear: the organization has no intention of selling its charter or returning to a multi-car Cup program anytime soon.
Instead, Haas plans to keep building around Cole Custer while strengthening its technical relationship with Chevrolet and its industry partners.
Speaking Saturday at Iowa Speedway, Custer dismissed the idea that Haas could cash out as Cup Series charters continue to increase in value.
"We have unfinished business in the Cup Series, you know, as Haas Factory Team," Custer said. "So, no, we are dead committed. Gene Haas, you know, is an F1 owner and a NASCAR Cup owner and also an O'Reilly owner, and we intend to keep it that way."

Saturday at Iowa Speedway was big for the underdogs, as driver/owner Ryan Sieg earned his first-ever pole as a NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series driver.
Driving the No. 39 RSS Racing Chevrolet, Sieg went to the top of the charts with a 23.966s lap at Iowa, 0.064s clear of Ross Chastain in second. Chastain led a fleet of JR Motorsports cars, with Carson Kvapil third, Rajah Caruth fourth, and Justin Allgaier fifth.
"It's been a long time," said Sieg as the small team celebrated. "Everything seems to be clicking. We've been working super hard at the shop, trying to come together with the Haas Factory Team and the alliance. It's finally coming together for us. And it's a special day as it's my mom's birthday, so this is a nice payoff right here for her and I. So hopefully we stay out front all day, and we get to Victory Lane in our SciAps Chevrolet."
The difference came in Sieg's momentum through Turns 3/4, nailing the exit in a way none could match. Several drivers drew even with him down the backstretch, but quickly faded through the final set of corners.
Sieg didn't think it was a pole lap while behind the wheel, and wasn't even sure what he did do different to be that far ahead. "I really don't -- I thought it was just an okay lap. I was tight, actually, at the exit, but I couldn't roll the middle and get into the gas like I thought i needed to. But ****** , it was good enough to get pole here in Iowa."

Due to injury issues with Tyler Higbee, Colby Parkinson got his shot to take on the majority of the tight end responsibilities last season, parlaying it into a career campaign. Both are back and effective as ever, while young and promising talents like Davis Allen, Terrance Ferguson and Max Klare work to carve out roles of their own.
With so much potential in the group, it's unclear which players will get the bulk of the opportunities. On Wednesday, we got some clarity on what the rotation will look like, as offensive coordinator Nate Scheelhaase stated that he doesn't expect one single player to ****** d the snaps. The staff will naturally move each player around to capitalize on the strengths of those individualized skill sets.
"No, I don't expect anyone in particular to come out on top," Scheelhaase told reporters. "I think those guys push each other and challenge each other and are so versatile that you're just excited to see who ends up coming to life based on what the defense wants to do. We can move those guys all around the field. They all can do so much, both in the run game and the pass game, that you're excited just based on a game plan.
"You don't know who ends up popping and making a play in the pass game. You don't know who ends up being at the point of attack in the run game. That makes a huge difference. I just appreciate how those guys work and how they've pushed each other to get where they're at right now."

Kevin Dotson and Warren McClendon once again put on a display. Yes, it was practice, but they were putting their hands on defenders, and taking them for a drive. They were exposed here and there, but nothing beyond the scope of NFL football and considering the talent on the line, Dotson and McClendon did more than enough to get the job done, had this been a real game.
McClendon has a natural, stout presence about him, absorbing pressure, without surrendering his placement. Dotson's ability to advance to the second level and rake out linebackers continues to impress, with one rep earning Dotson some congratulations from offensive coordinator Nate Scheelhaase.

Lewis Hamilton's F1 resurgence for Ferrari this season is "not ideal" for Ollie Bearman, acknowledged the young British driver currently racing for Haas.
Hamilton's long-term F1 future looked in doubt after an underwhelming debut season in 2025 for the Scuderia, in which he failed to register a podium. However, he earned his first Ferrari win in Barcelona in June and currently sits second in the championship standings, 50 points off leader Kimi Antonelli.
The 41-year-old now looks set to continue racing into 2027, while his teammate Charles Leclerc recently signed a contract extension with the Scuderia.

The 2026 Belgian Grand Prix saw Haas record its fourth consecutive race without scoring a single Formula 1 point, following a start to the season that had shown some promise. However, it has been clear for several races now that the American team has been outdeveloped by most of its rivals, starting with Racing Bulls and Audi, which are now battling it out with Alpine for points.
As such, hopes of a strong showing were not particularly high ahead of the Spa race, especially for Esteban Ocon, who has been plagued by performance issues with his VF-26. But, the fact that the two drivers made contact on the first lap – which resulted in the Frenchman running off the track and both suffering punctures – did not help matters.
Historically, incidents involving Haas drivers are nothing new, but for team boss Ayao Komatsu, it is essential to draw a clear line in the sand straight away – despite the particular circumstances of last week’s incident.
"We just have to make sure it doesn't happen again", he told the media, including Motorsport.com, on Thursday in Budapest. Former Haas Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner believes Esteban Ocon is likely in his final year with the American outfit, predicting a Ferrari junior will be drafted in to replace the Frenchman in 2027.
Steiner offered a blunt ****** sment of Ocon's current campaign at Haas during an appearance on The Red Flags Podcast ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The 29-year-old has been consistently outperformed by his team-mate Oliver Bearman, who is in his second season in the championship, sparking speculation about Ocon's future with Haas.
"I think Ollie is doing a very good job, and Esteban is just like, that’s the max we can do," Steiner said. "The difference is so big. I think it’s the biggest difference between team-mates now in the championship. Especially in qualifying.

Africa went against the grain of falling global beer production in 2025, data compiled by major hop supplier BarthHaas shows.
In a report issued by BarthHaas yesterday (21 July), BarthHaas said output fell 0.7% last year to just below 1.9bn hectolitres.
Production in each of Europe, the Americas, Asia and Oceania declined in 2025, although more beer was brewed in Africa, BarthHaas said.
Output in Africa, boosted by production in South Africa, grew 2.6% to 166.7 million hectolitres (mhl).
The picture across the Americas was mixed, with output in North America down 1.9% but rising in Central and South America by 1.3% and 1.7% respectively, the data showed.

Max Anstie will join ClubMX for the remainder of the 2026 SuperMotocross World Championship and remain with the team through 2028. The announcement came 10 days after he announced the parting of ways with Monster Energy / Yamaha Star Racing.
"We're incredibly excited to welcome Max to ClubMX," said Brandon Haas, Owner of ClubMX in a news release. "I've always respected the way Max carries himself. He's a true professional and represents himself exactly the way you'd want someone to represent your organization. He's the kind of person who naturally raises the level of everyone around him, and I honestly don't believe we've seen the best version of Max yet."
The deal includes the 2026 SMX Playoffs. Anstie is currently 44 points above the cutoff line of 21st in combined Monster Energy Supercross and Pro Motocross points. He has not raced in the outdoor series since a crash in the first moto at Fox Raceway in the season opener.
If he falls out of the top 20 in combined points, Anstie will be guaranteed a spot in the Last Chance Qualifiers for the three playoff rounds after winning the first race of the Supercross 250 West division at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California.
Anstie's role at ClubMX will be more than simply as a rider. Considering the youth of the majority of the team's riders, Anstie will provide mentorship.

Not long ago, ESPN formally recommended Haason Reddick as a summer free agent signing for the Minnesota Vikings, and about two weeks later, CBS Sports has followed suit. Minnesota may have a depth need at outside linebacker, with a player like Reddick being tailor-made for the ***** ignment.

There is a narrative coming out of OTAs that Ty Simpson and Stetson Bennett have yet to separate from each other in the battle for the QB2 role after Nate Atkins of The Athletic shared some insight from the offseason program.
For the Los Angeles Rams, their two options present two different dilemmas. Simpson is a first-round pick, the clear heir to Matthew Stafford, and a player who has a higher perceived ceiling than Bennett.
Bennett, on the other hand, knows the system like the back of his hand, has worked closely with ****** istants Nate Scheelhaase and Dave Ragone under Sean McVay, and has made tremendous strides in his development over the last few years, putting together an impressive 2025 preseason.

With just over a month left until training camp gets underway, the Minnesota Vikings are likely in the process of deciding what final moves they need to make to shore up their roster before everyone gets together in Eagan to prepare for the 2026 NFL season. The 32-year-old American, who won the 2023 US Open at Los Angeles Country Club, was among 50 players who did not conclude their first rounds Thursday due to a two-hour morning fog delay, but Friday skies were clear at the restart.
Clark set the lowest first-round score in a US Open at Shinnecock, breaking the old mark off 66 by Angel Cabrera, Shigeki Maruyama and Jay Haas in 2004 and Nick Price in 1995.

The NASCAR O'Reilly Series competed at Pocono Raceway, and it was a chaotic event. Taylor Gray won Stage 1 while Brent Crews won Stage 2; however, neither driver was able to enter victory lane. Instead, it was a JR Motorsports driver who stole the show for a fifth time in 2026.
